Update: 1 year in. No problems. 25.5 mph. City/hwy driving. Excellent vehicle. Bought it with 14k miles. An XLE is like a Lexus at half the price. Quiet, smooth with all the gadgets. Big upgrade from my last car. Still under warranty. Very nice car. After 6 months and 10,000 miles, I like the car more. Great mileage, excellent acceleration and great ride. No complaints whatsoever

2016 Toyota Avalon Touring

I've owned many cars of the years and this my 2nd Avalon. It's not the worst car I've owned and certainly not the best. Overall, the ride is smooth and the car has plenty of power and it accelerates on demand. However, the steering it a bit to be desired. It's not tight and kind of lags in turns at high speeds. Seating comfort, not too bad. It took awhile for to find the sweet spot for the driver's seat position. Very happy for the two setting memory. I set one for when I feel like cruising and the other for when I feel the need for speed and drive a bit more aggressively. Gas mileage is okay, I'm averaging about 24 mpg during my mixed 90 mile round trip commute between home and work. The technology package it is not bad, but could use some tweaking. Love the HVAC system and the heated seats are the best. Now here's the BAD; the stereo really really SUCKS!!! Although the vehicle has nine (9) speakers, it seems that all nine are up front between the dashboard and the windshield. There is virtually no blended stereo sound between the speakers, all you hear are the speakers upfront. There is no depth, no warmth, acoustic harmonization, no reverberation of tones. The fade setting(s) between the front and rear speakers is useless. You either hear all the front speakers or attenuated sound from the others. The four (4) side speakers, two left, two right, needs to be amplified because you can't hear them, as they are over-powered by the fronts speakers. As for the rear speakers, what rear speakers? The bottom line, Toyota needs to fire its acoustic design and system engineers and team with Bose, Boston Acoustics, Polk Audio, etc. My 1978 Dodge Diplomat had a stereo and acoustics.

Hidden problems - antiquated electronics, cheap pa

(1) Navigation only available when car is stopped. Firmware developer incorrectly assumed only the driver would be using the navigation system. Car must be completely stopped even if passenger is entering a navigation point. (2) USB port does not read folders at all, and reads file names incorrectly. If a drive has two folders, for example: Bob and Alice, the 2016 Avalon system puts all the files together. Even the old 2013 Tacoma trucks could correctly read folder and files correctly. (3) The touch-screen buttons are misaligned, forcing the user to press the return button half a dozen times before the current screen returns to the previous screen. (3) The paint on the bumper is paper thin. Even a gentle bump and you've got a hole in the paint. And the extended warranty for scratches does not cover paint.

I never thought I would purchase a car without a moon roof. This XLE base model has so many great features that are standard.... it's crazy! The ride is smooth, quiet and quick. I traded my 2010 Maxima SV for it which was a great car also....but not like the Avalon. I wanted to upgrade to a newer car so I made a move on this one. This 2016 XLE was a lease return excellent..with under 20,000 miles. You have to find out for yourself.. it's an awesome ride! If you are big on having a lot of options and can't bear the thought of driving around a base model without a moon roof, there are four levels above the XLE to SPEND your money on. Check this out first! You won't be disappointed.
