Good little car
I have worked a lot with this car in the past, and the similar Geo and Chevy cars as well. It is a dependable car that I drive on a daily basis and have no trouble with it. It is very easy to work on compared to many other modern cars. It has a lot of space in the engine compartment, which makes working on it a breeze. It has a fair amount of power for its size, and is overall easy to drive.
99 Swift
101,000 miles when I got it now has 110,000. Absolutley great on gas. I get 39 mpg beating the crap out of it. Had to put a starter in which took all of ten minutes. Great commuter car. Cant beat the mpg at 4 bucks a gallon
Not bad for the money.
I bought this car brand new in 1999. Overall, an excellent car for the pittance I paid for it ($7000.00). Never had one iota of problems while I owned it. Not a very big car, but with the seats folded down can actually gobble up a good size load of groceries. Great driver in the snow, provided you aren't using the Goodyear "invicta" GL tires which were absolute crap in wet weather. At 79hp, the car isn't a barn burner but isn't too bad for you and another person. Great mileage 42 mpg mixed driving. Handling is ok and the ride is very commendable for such a small car. I installed AC in the car which added a nice usable option. No rear window wiper/washer was bothersome in bad weather.
A brilliant first car
I have owned my little Suzuki for nearly a year now and it has been amazing. A brilliant first car. Interior is a little embarrassing but it can be spiced up. Engine is loud and noisy but could endure a sledge hammer blow and still be loud and noisy. The mileage is great for longish journeys but can struggle on those short journeys ( not sure of the mileage). The gadgets are brilliant.. For £800 quid where else could you get electric windows, cd player, electric wing mirrors and the like? I'd happly challenge a Merc in this car because even thought it can't win it makes me feel like I am ten again and that's what driving should be about.
Cheap, reliable, and fuel efficient
I own this vehicle for months now and although it's early to say, so far there's no problems with this car whatsoever besides one of the brake pads needed to be changed. At 113k,this car still runs like a champ and I never went below 35 mpg city driving with this car. With my average at over 40 mpg city/highway, this car shows why we don't need expensive hybrids, rather just more small cars with a simple, fuel sipping engine to take care of our transportation needs on the cheap. I'm going keep this car until there's an inexpensive car out there with comparable mpg to this car or when an affordable electric car is out on sale. For now I love my Swift! =)
Great little car
I owned a '99 Suzuki Swift for 7 years with no problems, except for replacing brake pads. I loved this car. It was completely problem-free for 7 years straight. Best car I've had so far and sorry that Suzuki doesn't make it anymore. It's nothing fancy but a great little car to get you from Point A to Point B.
great buy
got a good deal from a private party only 1400 bucks with 94000 miles. blue smoke at start up probably would not have baught it if i knew. have had no problems starts right up even at 15 below zero. its a base car no power steering or air. best thing about it is 40 mpg on the highway.
Great Car for it's Purpose
You get what you pay for. I paid $1,500 for this car two years ago. I get 36-38 mpg and not had to repair anything on it. New tires and oil changes are all it has needed. And the tires where cheap, because there so small. It only cost $100 for them. All the parts are cheap on it so repairs are minimal, especially if you know how to do things yourself. It's been the best car purchase for the money I have ever made. Granted, there is nothing to it, it's small, loud, uncomfortable, and lacks a/c. But those things aside, it was cheap and it's cheap to maintain.
Economy driver
I purchased this car as a secound owner with 130,000 on it. Car has been very reliable and never stranded me.These cars unfortunately rust out near the A-arm and under the doors mid way.I now have 225000 on motor and have replaced the usual stuff, brakes bearings,cv-shafts.I have a 5-speed. I`m not sure an automatic would be able to get out of its way! I`ve dropped from 44 to 40 Mph the last 15000 miles. Shes going but, I`ll drive her until her frame goes.Which will be soon. I changed the oil regularly and used slick 50. I did not race the car drove her for economy.
Good & Reliable & fuel efficient
This car has been very useful, reliable, economical and I've never had a single problem with it, other than just maintaining it, and changing the oil every 3K miles.
Pocket rocket!
I have a 1995 Suzuki Swift HB purple 5 speed 4cly 1.3L sohc 8 valve 70 hp 74 torque. I do not find it under powered for its size. Handles ok but want to tighten it up with a strut brace.
Ahead of its time!
Bought this car as a "back up" vehicle in 2004 and was quite surprised by how well it performs! Great gas mileage and fun to drive! I just turned 38k miles on this 12 year old car, and it still drives like new! Also, I was shocked by how well it performs in snow - it drove just like a 4WD vehicle because all the weight is in the front. My only two complaints are 1. Suzuki made these cars with 'power- assisted' steering rather than power steering (so you have to put your shoulder into it), and 2. when you open the driver's window you break the vacuum seal and will feel air coming in through the floor speaker grill. Also, I feel safe letting my teen use this as her 1st car next year.
50 mpg = 500 miles on 1 Tank of Gas
I have the 5 speed and it is amazing! I bought it for the fuel savings and I could not be more pleased. It does get a few looks and some funny comments, but when I tell them it gets 50 mpg, they all want to know where they can get one.
Great Little Car for the Money
This is a great little car. I drove it from Fla to VA, no problems. Great fuel economy, Transmission is very noisy and car Could use power mirror and rear defroster could use an automatic cut-off switch. Now my main complaint is the A/C. Since purchasing this car I had replaced the compressor twice.
The Eveready Bunny of Economy Cars
I bought this car brand new after putting over 700,000 kilometers on my four door 1989 Suzuki, which my brother then drove for another 300,000 kilometers. I always use synthetic oil in the engine and other than a water pump and radiator replacement, I have not had any other engine problems with the 1997 Suzuki. This has been a very good, economical, year round car that has stood up well to our Canadian climate. If you want a basic, very easy to maintain reliable little car, then this is the car for you.
I loved this car
I bought this car because I needed cheap transportation. I was just so happy with how well this car was built. It already had 67000 miles on it. It drove great. All under the hood looked like new. Gas mileage was unbelievable, it was about 40mpg. I have been driving a Honda after I this car, but only because they don't sell these. I would buy again. It was the best car. I felt it handled on the road better than Honda Civic, and I could park in very small spaces where others had to look for another spot. Oh, not to forget - cargo capacity was great once you lower back seat. Highway driving, excellent.
Almost 200Kmiles on my 1999 Swift
I purshase this car used in 2010 with 58K miles. Since that date, i've been running very well, so far. In June of 2012 i had to rebuil the transmision and now (Feb 2013) some white smoke comes out the exaustor for 10 to 15 seconds everytime i turn it on in the morning. Considering that now this car has 178K miles, and i get 30 MPG in the city and up to 36 MPG in highways at 65-70 miles/hr. I am considering to invest a little more money in to it and have the engine rebuilt.
Reliable, Dependable transportation
This car may not be popular in the US but it is good transportation vehicle for everyday driving, it is fuel efficient, reliable, dependable and easy to park and drive.
Suzuki Swift
This great car runs well in the snow and has great gas mileage. I would buy another, but they're hard to find.
My 1999 Swift Sucks
I've had nothing but problems with this car. I didn't have it for two years and it ended up in the shop for 5 weeks getting the engine rebuilt because of a factory defect that they tried to blame me for.
