Perfect sleeper Subie.
I wanted a shifter sedan that had AWD but something different from an Audi/BMW. I loved the looks of this car and how solid it feels when driving. To me it is a true sport sedan. I think I would be happier with the short-throw gearbox and will probably have that installed by the dealer before too long. It is a great road trip car but definitely sucks down the premium fuel. Overall I have been very happy with the car and plan to drive it for years to come. I had an Acura previously and while I think the Subaru is much more fun to drive I miss the interior quality of the Acura.
Gutless and Reliable
I'm driving this car around 150 miles to college and work every day. I've logged about 30k miles on this car since I got it, and so far it's holding up perfectly. The tried and true EJ25 engine performs just as well as it did 15 years before this model. I get plenty of power from a stop thanks to the short first gear and the option to shift on command. Thanks to Subaru's symmetrical AWD system as standard, this car has no issue with dirt, snow, ice, or shallow mud with the cheapest all-season tires money can buy. Now add in that this car has enough space for 4 people as well as a fairly spacious trunk and you've got a great cross country grocery getter. This car has served me well at 180k+ miles and I'm confident it'll continue to do so. My only complaints are that it burns or leaks egregious amounts of oil (it's a Subaru, so why wouldn't it?), it's absolutely lethargic at highway speeds, and the front seats are pretty uncomfortable for long drives. Overall, if you need to get from point A to Point B no matter what the world throws at you and you don't feel like breaking the bank, get a Subaru.

Bitter sweet
I always love driving this car. The only draw back, and it is a major concern for me, is the driver's seat is unbearable. Within a few days of buying the car the problem became very apparent. This style is by far the best design that Subaru ever came up with for the Legacy. Understated good looks and nothing pretentious about it. Of course in typical Subaru fashion, the stereo is terrible, but in this price range there really is nothing that compares.
Legacy GT
The real fun with this vehicle can be found on winding roads around Mt Rainier where the Supersport mode provides some real g forces. The other place is on open country roads free of risk where you can wind up that boxer engine in sport mode. It is a real surprise to passengers when they get pressed in the seat for 5 or 6 seconds with its most excellent acceleration. Of course, it is the manual transmission that makes it so fun.
I will miss my Subaru
We leased this car after our previous Legacy was 11 years old. There was no doubt about the replacement. Wife's only requirement was color (Diamond Gray Metallic), and it had to have a spoiler. There was no doubt about getting another Legacy, and this car exceeded our expectations. Great handling, just enough power to be fun, manual shift mode, in-dash 6CD player... This car was great, but with a growing family it is just not big enough. Trading up to a Toyota Sienna AWD. I will miss owning such a reliable, low-maintenance car.
