Bluetooth is awful and not safe to operate when driving
The Bluetooth is a joke. Subaru should be embarrassed to have such terrible software in a 2013 model. You cannot upload your phonebook, the controls suck, and its voice recognition barely works right. It constantly makes errors and give you the wrong number. The sales staff at the dealer knew all about the problems and told me a bunch of crap that weren't total lies so they could avoid telling me the truth about the system. It makes Subaru look bad. Other than that, the car is great, but its a big disappointment that this flaw exists and that they try to hide it and don't fix it ASAP.
disposable at 100k
i have 5m, florida. clucth failure, transmission failure (needs replace). Shock absorbers, rear bearings replace. Burns oil, need a bottle between regular changes. service is hard to find and to schedule. Bluetooth is awful. Steel out body is thin and easily dent. Engine lacks power and combination with trany lacks torque. road noise. Who was a moron who invented locking doors protocol for scenario when you have to disengage alarm? What was good? probably just handling, stability and grip of 4wd on slippery road. Also hatchback with split rear bench was useful. Overall - it is the last Subaru i have and i had a few before. Took loaners while fixing it and 2017 is actually worse...

my first subie!
it's hard for me to tell at this point the reliability since i've only had it for a couple days but so far so great! i was contemplating between the new vw beetle and golf, both test driven but when it came down to it, i went with the impreza and i'm so happy i did. although the interior is not as aesthetic and lacks some of the bells and whistles that vw has, i still was able to get everything i wanted and more, such as heated seats, leather, moon roof, bluetooth, upgraded sound system (crazy good for coming from the factory, not stock), etc. i feel like for what i paid, i got the best bang for my buck. i feel like subaru's reputation for reliability and safety was really what got me.
Not What I Expected
A disappointment from beginning to end. The low ground clearance created problems entering a slight incline into the garage. Scraped the bottom just about every time. If I went into the garage on a certain angle, no sound. But that was difficult to do since I parked next to another car. The oil consumption problem started at about 15,000 miles and lasted through 19,000 miles. Had to pour in a quart of oil on two different occasions when the light went on. Ended up carrying a quart in the trunk. The local Subaru dealer did two oil changes free and ran an oil consumption test which didn't show up anything. There is a class action suit regarding this problem with certain models. Manual transmission was rough, cornering was below average, noisy interior. I did like the hatchback feature and the clean dashboard. I finally traded it in for a 2015 Mazda 3. Now that is a car.
2013 Subaru Impreza is a terrible car
This car has been nothing but a problem. It has a terrible ride, gets poor gas mileage and at 24,400 miles chewed a set of tires right off the car. Subaru has to pay to put a new set on becuse it was under warranty. It has been aligned four time, it has had the steering box adjusted and now the AWD disengages in any slippery condition. Subaru is aware of how this car is running particulary with the AWD malfunctions, but Subaru engineering insists that the car is running to specifications. It is a piece of junk and the worst car purchase I have ever made. I have heard of many problems with the 2013's so buyer beware on this model year they are defective.
