5,000 Mile Update

We're still enjoying our Impreza tremendously since new and have been using it daily. Have not had any issues outside of careless people banging their doors in parking lots. Size of the vehicle is working nicely for our family in terms of leg room and shoulder room. Traction and vehicle control is unbelievable with the AWD system and wheel/tire set up. Very stable handling on the freeway - feels more secure than anything I've driven. Still not a big fan of the velvetty interior fabric but it's not the worst I've seen. Plastic surfaces too hard to the touch and fuel economy is mediocre. Stock stereo should have an AUX input for iPods - lame! Padding on the seats could be thicker.

2010 2.5i Subaru Sedan

I purchased my Subaru Impreza about 5 months ago after trading off my Honda Pilot. I was hesitant because of the large amount of snow we get in North Dakota. However, I could not be happier with the trade. The gas mileage is much better, no problems in the first 8,000 miles, and it is fun to drive. We ended up with 12 inches of snow in 24 hours and I had no issues commuting to and from work. Probably the funnest car I have owned, and it is number 6.

The perfect car for hand controls

As a disabled driver, I purchased this car for the safety it provides in snow. It runs quietly and is quite comfortable. Plenty of pep too. But mostly, a car must be equipped with hand controls for me to drive. Not all cars are created equal in this regard. In my 30 years of driving with controls, I've never had an easier install with minimal intrusion into the cabin space. It's as if Subaru designed this car specifically for the disabled driver in mind. My driving position is superb and feels totally natural and not awkward. For those unfortunate folks who need to drive by hand, give this car a look. It just works.

Oil burner - burnt engine/valves. Awful

I bough (and I am now selling) my 2010 Subaru Impreza (Outback Sport). I bought it new, it burns oil. Ridiculous. All the maintenance and oil changes as required. In under 100K miles I had an oil leak develop and had to replace valve gasket -$$$ repair. less than 10K miles later I had a push rod bearing go because of oil burning! and now I have to buy a short block engine if I wanted to repair it. I am selling it for salvage for more than I expected as I refuse to sink good money after bad. At least I don't owe any money on it. This is the 2nd Subaru I have purchased with oil issues (the other was a turbo Baja - 4 burned valves while still under warranty in the first 36K miles).Stay away.

Recently upgraded from an 05 Scion tC automatic. The difference is like night and day. Performance, price and practicality. Not many sports cars can claim these. Breathtaking acceleration, smooth ride, plenty of trunk space, and four doors. I average about 22 MPG, mostly city driving. This is the sports car for the family man. Beware though, it attracts a lot of attention, especially from your local PD. Very fast out of the box, and relatively cheap to make faster. Catback + downpipe + tune will push this car well past 300 hp

This is an easy car to own. I've had it for 5 years and have not had to do any repairs, just normal maintenance. I had previously owned a Subaru before this one and was hit on the drivers door. My only injury was a burn from the side air bag. The car was totaled. I fully believe this car saved my life.

This car burns a ton of oil and they will not fix it. It has to burn more than 1 quart every 1,200 miles or they will not fix it. I am unhappy with Subaru for this reason alone. I will not buy another Subaru or promote buying any of their cars. If something breaks or is flawed, like my engine, they won't make it right.

Second and LAST Subaru

This is my second Impreza. The first one, a 2006, was a much better car. I had no problems with the 2006. The 2010 has 31k miles on it and feels like it's rattling apart. It's been idling rough for a few months, but according to the dealership that I brought it to, that's what makes a Subaru a Subaru. I just dropped it off for an oil change and found out that the rear brakes are completely worn down to the metal. The paint is also pretty terrible. It scratches if you look at it funny. After less than a year, I had scratches around all of the door handles. It's my personal theory that Toyota is not so slowly trying to kill the Impreza.

The clutch on my 2.5i Subaru went out at 40k miles, the center armrest cracked, the side arm rests caved in, the trunk rattles and it burns oil like mad. Now the car is turning itself off intermittently while running, probably from a failed fuel pump. We are selling this car and getting a better vehicle. This has been the worst vehicle we've ever owned.

For the class of car, my experience with my 2010 is that it has the fun of a sporty car and the handling of a real all-weather machine. Great acceleration, nice tight handling and the AWD makes it stand out the most in Minnesota driving. I put Blizzac snow tires on a seperate set of rims and swap out tires come winter and it handles in snow BETTER than 4WD trucks I drive past. I credit the better handling in snow to the top grade tires and that the AWD is situated on a more even weight distribution than typcial pick up trucks have with their light back ends (and thus more prone to spin out in slippery conditions.). While the Impreza can't handle deep snow its lower clearance helps keep it tight to the road and I manage 3-4" on the road without much trouble. The down side of this car is that I had to replace the head gasket at about 80K and that is not cheap. Also, avoid hitting a deer like the one that jumped out in front of me as the plastic that these newer/safer cars are made with gets expenseive fast to replace. I average about 24 mpg in mixed driving. If I get another Subaru it would probably be a Forester for more room. I LOVE the AWD that all Subarus come with, you can really tell the difference driving in various conditions. That is probably their best selling point.

I am so in love with this car! It handles so good, much better than any other car I test drove. I feel like I have gained an extra foot of viewing from the windshield, very well designed for the driver. My partner is 6'1" and has loads of headroom which is nice. Even the base model, which is what I went for, is loaded with feature like symmetrical AWD, power windows & locks, heated mirrors, and sport shift. It is a very safe car, I live in a climate with harsh winters and just days after I purchased it, we had a huge snowfall but my Impreza was a breeze to drive! Love this car, I will keep it for a very long time!

This car is an excellent buy for the money. Overall value is excellent. Body design is main stream. All wheel drive system is unsurpassed. Drive train is adequate. Interior seating looks cheap, but it is very comfortable. Drivers side seat has a barber chair style manual crank up & down function that works beautifully. The radio is extremely sub-par, but the rest of this car is a class leader. If you compare features & cost, this is an unbeatable value.

This is my second update of our Impreza 2.5i sedan with auto. Car continues to impress with excellent reliability, sharp handling, and solid construction. Interior fabric is holding up better than expected (I mentioned previously that it may wear out fast) and the size is still just right for moving up to four people and some stuff. Stability on the freeway is outstanding even in cross winds and the engine power is mated very, very well to the auto trans. I really like the Silver color which matches nicely with the dark gray interior. Only complaint is the gas mileage which is dramatically different between city and freeway driving. Getting around 19- 20 in the city and nearly 30 on the fwy.

Just bought the imprezza yesterday (7- 19-10), drove it back home , and was really surprised the road manners , and just that it hauls, really like the feel of the interior. even for a standard imprezza , you get the boxer engine like a Porsche the infamous AWD of Subaru, had to steer the car from going off the road cause it just looks for its next conquest! Same price would have bought me a corolla , what fun is that? So glad I bought this awd inprezza which the awd is standard, acceleration very good, this car will be in our family for a long time, unlimited performance upgrades, that I can push the limits on the car, great rally inspired Subaru awd! . Thanks Subaru!

I've had the car for six months now, and I love my car very much. 5 speed manual with all weather package. I get about 22 MPG on my daily commute to work. I can get between 25-32 MPG on long freeway drives. Living in sunny Southern California, the heat causes a unique experience within my Subaru. When it gets hot, the plastics of the interior give off a nauseating smell. The interior looks great to me. It's just that being plastic makes it not as good. The stereo is great. Those who complain about the stereo when using a MP3 player need to learn that AUX jacks means the volume is controlled on the device! Turn it up on the device and then it will sound fine through the stereo!!

2008 civic Si to 2010 WRX

Dave M., 06/07/2010
2010 Subaru Impreza WRX 4dr Sedan AWD (2.5L 4cyl Turbo 5M)
1 of 8 people found this review helpful

Bought this car on a whim. An 828 credit score can do that to you. I was disappointed in my Si's power output and it's inability to shine even if throwing $2k in aftermarket parts at it, it can only gain an additional 20 hp. Compare that to the WRX which already beats it 2 seconds to 60 mph, and with $1300 for a downpipe, cat- back, and a custom ECU tune, gains 50 hp and 80 lb ft torque. Thus, making a fast car even faster. It doesn't have the precision steering that the Si has, or the stereo, but the power is why I bought the WRX. I expect to lose a few mpg to the Si which is fine. 1st and 2nd gear are a riot BTW! Highly recommend this car! Don't buy an Si if you expect straight line performance.

I traded in my 2008 Chevy Trailblazer to save money on car payments and in gas. I do feel like a made a mistake by not really shopping around a bit before making my decision. I was trying to save money but making sure that I got a vehicle that had AWD. I wouldn't recommend getting the Impreza and would tell anyone who asked to look into other AWD cars. There are plenty out there, they may be a bit pricey but I believe it's worth it to love what you drive. I also have been looking into a few other cars that have AWD and if you look online, you can find lists of cars that have an AWD option. On top of not "loving that car", the dealer that I bought this from just wanted to sell a car.

Purchased a 2010 White Wrx Premium on Halloween and love it. It handles great; And also has a very smooth ride. Has the 10 speaker sound system and has a pretty good sound. Use as daily driver and on average I achieve 23.4 mpg. Car delivers lots of power, and has a very very refined engine. Pulls hard but very smooth. All in all I couldn't be happier with my purchase. When I purchased this model there were only 9 in the us of the white wrx premium. If you can obtain a premium wrx I highly recommend it, you'll love it!

I have 350 miles on my new sube, and it corners very well. I got the sedan 5spd, the throw on the shifter is a bit long but I really enjoy driving the car. I looked at a Civic and a Mazda 3, but I do not like FWD, because of the odd pull on hard corners. Thus far a wonderful car, wonderful traction in rain, and just all around a great car. The inside looks good, bit cheap looking with the plastic, but you are going to get that with a base model car. It was built 100% in Japan, parts and built, I have no doubt of its quality, And the dark gray paint with no orange peel looks steller. I LOVE MY SUBIE!!!

We weren't looking to purchase new but after the deal that was offered she ending up with 2010. I wasn't sure if the car was going to be big enough, but she has more than enough room for her and our 4 month old.

I've put about 1500mi on my Subie. Love it! I was very surprised by its pickup, even with the auto. Its handling and power are much better than the other cars in its class, especially for the basic model. Getting up around 34 mpg hwy, 25 city (stop-n-go), not bad, especially just breaking it in. Had a few snows, and it just zips along. Love being able to just go, even starting uphill. The handling is fun in the snow, it seems as though I can feel the different wheels gripping.

Since my last review 11/27, my wife has put 3400 miles on her car. I drive it from time to time and have to say I'm impressed with the car. I enjoy driving it and feel it has a lot of pick up with the boxster engine. The car feels very tight and the steering wheel is excellent in terms of its thickness and feel. We had trouble finding a car seat that did not angle so far back, but found a Britax that fits perfectly. We have had a couple of snow storms and the car has handled great. Very happy with the purchase so far and would recommend.

I was giggling like a little boy after test-driving my WRX at the dealership. I'd tested the 2.5i Premium and was disappointed by the performance. Then I drove Scooby. Oh. My. God. Love at first drive. Stupid fast. I shouldn't be allowed to have a car this fast. Scooby loves curves too, eats 'em up. I'm taking it to the track (never been before) in a couple of weeks. I go to sleep every night dreaming of my upcoming track day. So fast, my wife complains if I hit the gas. My Dad said it was "almost scary" after I took him for a spin (pretty sure he meant the car, not my driving ;)). Best car for my money!

I must say that I'm quite impressed. Of course I did a TON of research before settling on the Subaru Impreza for my purchase, so I expected the impression I have. It is fun to drive, peppy, handles like a dream, great in inclement weather. Controls for stereo, cruise and other features are comfortable and easy to use. Very roomy back seat (compared to my previous car anyway). I really like the styling as well. A couple small complaints: The steering wheel support from the center to the bottom of the wheel.. I like to put my hand there! The center storage console could be bigger and padded for your elbow. There's a little more road noise than I'd like to have... thats about it! :)

I love how this car looks. When I got out of my previous car at the dealership I was drawn like a magnet to it. I got the dark glitter gray. It looks dark enough to be black but in the light it looks purplish black. The stock ground effect kit and fog lights look so mean. The seats and little red details are a rally car driver's dream. Im so glad the race pedals are an option on the WRX and not just the STI. It handles so well! I can't wait to go to Mt. Baldy and run those curves in the snow. The radio is ok. Set the treble lower like 1 and the bass at 3 and it'll sound better. Also you can turn the feature on that clears the sound up a bit. Really the 6 speaker audio is not bad if tweak it.

This is a long term rental replacing a Mazda 3. First the Impreza feels more like a Buick, it floats. I’m used a hard suspension with precise steering, I don’t have it here. The car floats over the road, which is nice for long trips, but no fun on twisty roads. The suspension in turns feels every bump and skips instead of holding the car in place. OEM tyres are crap for handling. The Auto tranny doesn’t hold a gear or downshifts on its own going down the hill. The manual shift also does hold the gear (yes it shifts down even though 2 is shown on the dash). Engine has good power, but tranny reduces it. Comfy inside, good layout, nice equipment.

I had a Subaru Legacy in the past, and this car is just about the same size. I like the handling, the fuel mileage, the AWD, the interior, and even the radio/CD player. I drove a friend's Mercedes Benz a few years ago, and this car reminds me of the drive, comfort, stability, and tightness of that $50,000+ vehicle. I absolutely love it. I have Satellite radio and enjoy that on longer drives. I drives like you are on a cloud! Very, very smooth and comfy. I will be driving it for a long time!
