Subaru knows what they're doing.
I do adventuring with my cars and have had other Subaru's. While they are very capable onroad where most people use them to get groceries, when the road ends these cars work very well in snow and loose sand. I use this one in areas that get full size pickup trucks stuck as the smart AWD system and light weight enable it to float over thick sand. I like the features like the adaptive CC, lane assist, blind spot monitoring. All are integrated with the "Eyesight: system". The power in the engine I find to be very acceptable as well as the fuel economy. Subaru now is able to do more today with a 2.5l 4 cylinder than they were able to do with a 3.0 6 cylinder in the early 2000's with much better fuel economy so the technology has really improved. Overall I'm very pleased with this reliable, competent, and very versatile car. If I had to nitpick I'd say the styling is pretty bland though.

After four years I still love it
After extensive research I bought my Forester touring 2020 model in Nov 2019. It's the best all round car I've owned. Both my wife and i love it. Being seniors we find the extensive safety features essential. The car is: spacious (enter & exit is easy), comfortable, visibility is terrific, fuel consumption is excellent. I am 6' and I appreciate the leg room of the driver's seat. My daughter has a Mazda cx9 and it has a very responsive engine but The visibility and drivers leg room are nothing like the Forester. It's a joy to get back into my Forester.

Excellent Subie
I have had Subarus for many years and had good luck with all of them. This Forester is built solid. The gas mileage is excellent, and I highly recommend it.

Best car buying decision ever
Great car rides nice great in gas
Disappointing Upholstery Durability
This is my first Subaru (I've been a Toyota gal for many years), but like so many options on my 2020 Forester Premium. It has bells and whistles that I do not even use nor understand, but that's fine. It handles wonderfully and gets very good gas mileage. HOWEVER, I noticed, last year (2023) a split in the driver's seat where the vinyl trim meets the cloth and was asked to bring it to the dealer who told me I cut the seat (I did not!). I was advised it could not be repaired and that it would run over $1000 to replace the entire seat upholstery, so I left with my split seat. Recently, I noticed several additional splits in the same general area and have discovered other Forester owners are having the same problem. If the Forester can be so safe and offer so many techy items, why can't they use upholstery material that lasts more than a couple years. Maybe a recall is in order. (My 360K mile Camry had intact upholstery when we finally gave it up.)

7 month review of Forester Sport.
My overall impression of the Forester Sport is that it was designed well with ample safety and creature comforts and space inside for the majority of humans. The gas mileage appears to be a little less than advertised but I haven't taken it on anything but local trips around town thus far. (That was my final observation statement from my 30 day review) OK, 7 months of ownership now and it has all of 2500 miles on it and here's some important additional info that people might find helpful. - The "eyesight" safety feature of this vehicle will definitely force you to adjust your following distances. Coming out of the highly responsive Altima 3.5 SL I never had a problem "evaluating" following distances properly in moving traffic. The Forester has ZERO tolerance for any self evaluated following distance. It has applied the brakes for me even when I thought it could have waited a second more. You "will' adjust your driving habits because of this, and that's a good thing! -Snow performance. One night this last winter we got about 9" of crappy wet snow just west of Chicago. After cleaning the drive I went out for gas for the snow-blower. There's a local cemetery on the way back from the gas station and the gates were open and the roads inside it were not plowed, nobody had driven in, there were no tire tracks in it anywhere. I turned in and the snow was up to the floorboards. I "did not use" the deep snow and mud X mode. I drove around slowly inside on the marked road in regular drive and the Forester performed like a champ even riding on the crappy street tires it didn't bog down except once in a hard right turn. I simply backed up 6 ft. than started up again slowly and it went right through. The vehicle is Very Impressive in the snow. - Here's my biggest complaint. I had stopped to get fuel in sub zero temps at night and in a hurry with no gloves on I failed to turn the gas cap down properly. "My fault for sure". A day later after starting up the vehicle all my safety gauges and check engine light came on. I found my error with the loose gas cap right away and went for a short drive starting and stopping the engine but the safety feature warning indicator lights refused to reset and told me those features were disabled. I called the dealer and asked if it was OK to drive since I'd fixed the gas cap issue and was told yes but I still needed to bring it in to be "re-set". I brought it in early the next morning. I asked the service representative why the safety features wouldn't reset after the check engine light went off and he replied that was just how it was set up. I replied what if this issue caused my "five star safety rated" vehicle to fail in saving me from a collision on my way over to have those features re-set. He didn't have an acceptable answer. In short, I did not turn this into an issue because in my 65 years on this earth I might have failed to tighten a gas cap on any one of the plethora of vehicles I've owned maybe 3 times in my life. This does not forgive that safety feature disablement issue in a 2020 model year vehicle brand known and marketed for its "SAFETY". Think about it.

Fair for it's class. BUT EXPENSIVE
I heard something about the dash rattling on one review. I have a 2020 Forester Sport and I believe the rattle comes from the rear view mirror above the dash. The mirror may not be secure tightly. I put a small weight to stop the sound. Like fuzzy dice or something. I'd have say that some of the cons are, under powered engine and super low toe capacity. If you want to haul trailers are burn vehicles on the highway. Get something else.
Thermostat/ oil eating contraption
Want a long lasting, acceptable maintenance needed vehicle. Subaru isn't one that will fill the bill.

Customer satisfaction elsewhere
The lowest grade model of the Subaru Forester is not available in red, however, it is the model with the greatest cargo space, I wanted to buy a 2019, but due the lack of being available in red, and I voiced my concern, the following year, the 2020 is not available. I need the extra cargo space. No sale - so sad - I love my 2008 Subaru, it is red. Now it is a money pit and needs to retire. Good buy Subaru - checking out the Jeep Cherokee, checking soon if the cargo space is sufficient. Subaru doesn’t care about their customer needs, just their money.

My 2nd Forester
I purchased a 2020 Forester from Victory Subaru in Somerset, NJ. I have a 2014 Forester also and besides brakes and tires, I haven't had any issue. I am very happy with the Forester and thought the buying process through Victory Subaru was seamless.
Subaru info console fault
I have the new 2020 Forester which has just been refitted with a new information console. I’m told by the technician that he has replaced 3 units in this model. Fortunately, the car is still under warranty, but what happens if it fails again after the warranty has expired. These units cost $3,000. Has anybody else had this problem?

My first car and I’m absolutely in love!
Bought a 2020 Forester Sport brand new last August. Been really happy with it so far. It was affordable, and had all the tech and features I wanted. Reliability has been great, had a few issues with a seat part breaking but the dealership took care of it under warranty. Acceleration is lackluster, but I suppose it keeps me out of trouble anyway. The all wheel drive and X-mode is excellent, I’ve only got stuck once in the snow and X-mode eventually got me out without me having to dig myself out it get pulled out. Overall a great car and I highly recommend it!

Checks evey box
I am a car addict. Ive owned 21 cars - from a basic Wrangler to most recently a loaded XC90. The Forester has everything my Volvo had - two tone quality interior, adaptive cruise, carplay, more headroom and legroom and sits just as high at 1/2 the price. I almost went back to a Countryman but their interiors have gotten so basic - just black on black - and the cargo room in the Forester is twice that of the Mini. And Im sorry to say, but the quality of the Forester being made in Japan compared to the Ascent made in Indiana is night and day. The interior trims and headrests of the Ascent dont match and Im not sure why they cant fix such a basic issue.

Dynamic
The Subaru Forester is a dynamic vehicle, that still manages a charismatic styling. 2020 is by far one of the best years to buy on a Forester. Quiet cabin, responsive tech, averages power and agility-wise. Excellent vehicle. Excellent company response too. Parts are easy to obtain and often times cheap to replace. Definitely enjoy a ride or a drive in a Forester!

Smoky Mt Cruiser
The Subaru Forrester has been a great addition to allow us reliable transportation through all seasonal weather in the Smoky Mt. And more. We love the outdoors and enjoy using the Forrester in the backroads and in the snow as well as meets our needs for a daily commuter. Fuel economy has been good. It handles well and really enjoy the Onsight features for long trips.
