2019 Lemon?
I love the look and feel of this car, it’s exactly the right car for me except a few BIG flaws. #1 Is a big one; as soon as the temp dropped below 40 the battery wouldn’t work. Every single morning I had to jump my car with a portable battery. Subaru said there was nothing wrong with the battery, but this continued to happen so they finally replaced it. (I literally just got it back 4 hours ago so fingers crossed this battery works). It also sucks because I paid extra to have a remote starter, and with this messed up battery I can’t even use it. I live in NH! It’s cold! #2 I don’t like how everything is basically child-proofed. It’s nice that it has all these safety features and junk but my thought is that these cars are made for young new drivers that need a little extra help. That’s fine but I’m 24 lol I don’t need my car telling me every time I leave a lane by a cm. Thankfully you can turn most of this stuff off, but the sensors are all on one switch, so I can’t turn off the automatic braking (not helpful and honestly terrifying), and also keep the backup sensors (extremely helpful). One day I was trying to reach something on the passenger side, safely of course, but I had to unbuckle my seatbelt to reach it. I was on the highway using cruise control and as soon as I took my seatbelt off the cruise control shut off. I didn’t notice right away until I saw I was going 55 in a 70. Other than those things I really do love my car. It’s frustrating that everything else about it is great but these are huge problems to consider. The STARLINK services are awesome, my remote starter makes life so much easier when it actually works, and the fact that Apple CarPlay works in there is so freakin cool. I wish these problems could be fixed because I’m kind of regretting buying this car...

Love it! Got a great deal.
I chose to get fewer options in order to bring my base price way down. Got a 2019 Forester with 15,000 miles for $19,400 using Edmunds as a guide. Thank you for offering the tools I used.

Sold on transit, demand too high
Test drove and really like this vehicle but, could not obtain the color (while) that I desired. According to the dealers, I would need to order the vehicle and wait for two months to obtain. With this vehicle being in such high demand negotiating a lower price will be difficult. I decided to research some other vehicles instead.

Horrible Steering Issues
overall the car was pretty good except for the steering issues. even with the lane assist off the steering was very reactive to the point of it feeling like you were fighting the car the whole time you were driving. took it to the dealer twice and they just said that's the way the way they drive and it was "Normal" We got rid of ours in less than a year with under 7,000 miles.

Not that great.
I bought a Subaru Sport 2019 last month. Three things I don't like about this vehicle: (1) It is noisy when start cruising, (2) the start/stop is irritating. When you completely come to a stop, either at a stop sign, at a traffic light, or during traffice jamp, the engine shuts down. But once you take off your foot from the break, the engine starts again. City driving is the worst for this kind of car. It shuts off and turns on your engine many times on a trip. I am afraid that it will hurt the starter in the long run. (3) The sticker on the window says that one gallon will go 29 miles. I finished the first tank of 16.6 gallons and found out that one gallon can go only go 18 miles. So don't be deceived by the sticker on the window.

But anyway Subaru is all about SAFETY BIG TIME AND I WOULD SAY QUALITY WHICH I have to keep driving to find out so the most part I like it I hope I say that in 2 years but for now QUALITY IS WHAT MATTERS TO ME AND SAFETY

Subaru Changed My Mind!
I wan't going to get a Subaru or a new car until I got talked into test driving the 2019 Subaru Forester. Wow, what a difference an upgrade can make! In addition to its other well-known safety and outdoor-oriented features ( I drive on a lot of dirt roads), it's a joy to drive: QUIET, SMOOTH. Now I just have to figure out all the fancy computer controls...

Back to my roots
I owned a 1997 sabaru and a 2002 sabaru. My 1997 went until it hit 306000 miles. Need i say more. But in shopping for a new vehicle this yr, i thought I would try another auto maker. We shopped for several weeks and after much research and thought I went back to the most reliable and trustworthy vehicle we know of... we now own a Forester and I am so glad we didn't comprise or switch from our roots. When you know of the excellent car the sabaru is, why ever change. Thanks to Sabaru I'm couldn't be happier once again.

$1523,00 4R OLD 2019 FORESTER REPLACEMENT
I dislakie spending $1500.00 for a replacement part that is only 4 years old - this has been an ongoing problem with this make and model - why not a recall??

Excellent Products
We spent a lot of time researching this vehicle since it was going to be our retirement transportation. we compared between a number of SUV's in this market segment. We drove a number of them and ultimately chose the Subaru. The safety features were at the top of our list. Eyesight and the other pre-collision mitigating features as well as spaciousness, seating comfort, ride, audio options all checked off our boxes. The vehicle met our criteria while saving us in excess of $15,000. compared to the pricing of other vehicles we evaluated. we have had it 27 months now and it has been nothing less than a pleasure to drive. Our local dealership takes excellent care of the vehicle as well as use when we stick around to wait for the services. This is our second Subaru, and the 5th purchased by our family members. If there is a need to replace this vehicle ( I highly doubt the need will arise) we will defiantly return to our Subaru dealership as our first shopping stop.

2019 Forester Premium Review after 2 years
I will keep this review short and sweet. We bought this 2019 Forester Premium as a replacement to our 2010 Forester Limited. We are Subaru fans so had no other SUV in contention. My wife drives it for her work commute, groceries and soccer duties. I drive it occasionally on long trips to keep the battery and engine in shape. After reading about the complaints about lack of power on Edmunds, I decided to do a test drive. So on a Covid-19 lockdown weekend, late Saturday night after 10 pm., I took it to my local Interstate, where there were no vehicles in sight for miles. Gassed the pdel to the floor and the Forester accelerated like a scalded cat . Reached 135mph within 30 seconds. Yes 135mph !! Kept driving at 135mph for a mile before any late night cops could catch me !! So there goes the argument about the lack of power out of the window, hopefully .

Outstanding car in every way
My forester is so easy to drive. The infotainment system is the best on the market, regardless of cost of vehicle. I drove it through 9-10' of snow last week and driving was effortless. Subaru knows what they are doing.

Happy So Far . . .
Purchased this car new in 2019 and now after a couple years I'm pretty happy with the purchase. It's comfortable to drive, even for long distances and gets great milage for an AWD car of this size. Not especially happy with infotainment system. It's OK, but we like to play music from our thumb drive and we are unable to do so if using ApplePlay for navigation. Garage door opener (Homelink) only works while car is running, which is a little annoying. Really like the blind spot detection in heavy traffic, and also the cruise control that slows down when you catch up with slower moving traffic so you are not constantly turning it on and off. Overall I have to give it 5 starts after owning it for 2 years. Update 9/2/21 - Had some problems with music on thumb drive. It always seemed to play albums out of order. I have since created playlists and now it works OK. Still give it 5 stars. Update 3/2/22 - Still very happy with this purchase after 3 years!

Certainly not the best car I’ve owned.
Maybe my 2019 was a lemon but I’ve heard of lots of complaints about the lift gate for sure. Kinda sucks coming out of the grocery store and can’t get the lift gate to open. Next problem has been the main computer for emergency calling and remote start. Three times now this computer has went out. Take it to the dealer and wait six months for parts. Next is the front bumper wrap. Just a little bit of rough road and the bumper wrap starts poping loose. And final is the dirt collecting around the door jams and even the rear lift gate. Very poor design. Taking the car through a car wash just isn’t going to wash all the dirt from the door seals.

Smart Purchase
I just picked up a CPO 2019 Touring with 3500 miles on it. This is a solid vehicle that drives really well and comes with a ton of safety features. I personally thinks that it is fun to drive and has enough power to suit my needs. I've had numerous Hondas all my life but I'm glad that switched and bought the Forester.

Wasn’t inspiring, not for a flatland
Test drove Subaru Forrester, it was just not peppy SUV. Takes long time to get up to highway speed compare to CX5 or CRV that I test drove against....ok, I know these two are crossover CUV, but Forrester is soooooo slow, needs turbo!!! CVT wasn’t smooth and quite loud for a modern car. AC was amazing cold though, infotainment was superb and mated with my phone fast. Interior quality is definitely close to Mazda. Definitely better than Honda, though design is too busy for my taste. A lot of useful features and space. I can say this is definitely a good SUV if I lived in northeast. But I live in flatland and acceleration and peppiness are more important I didn’t buy. Also Subaru has become so expensive and incentives are joke, I guess that’s due to being a part of Toyota.

meh
I had heard so many good things about Subaru, however my first purchase of one, a 2019 Forester, was quite a disappointment. Overall it got me where I needed to go and drove smoothly on a road trip, but driving around town was very "choppy" with the automatic gear shifting (coasting up to a red light for instance turned into a lunge fest); It felt very clunky, the cup holders are in an absolutely illogical place, as are other features of the driver's space (having the chargers way way back in the dash was insane); having the gas tank on the "Japanese" side was also a negative for me. Lots of little inconveniences added up to disappointment. So much so I've sold it after 9 months and went back to Honda.

All that and more!
With new (and used) vehicle prices so inflated, and nothing but a 21 year old very well used vehicle as a trade in, I had no choice but to shop for another (hopefully) gently used vehicle 4-5 yrs old. I discovered Edmunds car listings by accident, and so glad I did! They had a great selection and and very reasonable prices. And I found a vehicle well beyond my expectations. It looks almost brand new, runs like a dream, and has so many upgrades over my last SUV. I'm going to have to spend a good bit of time studying the owner's manual, for sure! Edmunds is a name I trust for vehicle information, and now I trust it for vehicle purchases as well!

I'd never have bought this had I known:
1. How annoying and difficult the starting of the car is for a person with limited mobility...2. How hard it is to enter with the high "lip" at the door...3. How annoying the stop-start feature is...4. ...and the way-too-short console arm rest...5. And the impossibe-to-reach cup holders..6. ...and the way too-high seat bolsters (raised outside edges) that stab into a large person's back...7....and the too-narrow seats themselves, again with too - high bolsters, and 8. the absence of the sliding console lid. 9....conclusion: car made to suit smaller body type

My 3rd Forester is the favorite
Love this vehicle. The visibility, safety features, plush interior. Subaru has included so many improvements!
Fooled by Runaround Su
A certain consumer magazine report-ed that the controls were "easy to use." Hardly! If you are an airline pilot, the Forester's controls will seem simple. Oh, you're not? Good luck! Subaru must think, 'Why should the customer push one button? Won't they feel more engaged with our car in pushing-twisting two or more buttons?' So it is. You must remember to turn the radio volume down when you exit, because you can't turn it off --- when you reenter the car, the radio automatically comes on at the volume you left it at. There are screens everywhere on the dash; just consult the 400 page owner's manual to figure them out. The climate control works like this: push the system knob "on" (Look for the quick icon in the center screen of the dash; there's no "on light"); adjust the outside/inside airflow fan knob-button, go back and adjust the temp with the system "on" knob; now go to the third knob and adjust where to direct the airflow (Oh, that's in the little center dash screen, too. There's no markings on the knob.). Now try to adjust the driver's side center vent. Oops! You hit the radio with a smidge of your finger and canned the station! Doesn't matter; that vent puts out such weak airflow that your right hand will roast in summer, freeze in winter. The cruise control is maddening: get up to an odd speed, say 32 mph, quickly hit the set switch! Oh, you forgot the cruise switch first. Okay, got the cruise switch, get to 31 mph, will just have to hit the set switch and then the "accel" switch to go up 1 mph, right? Sorry, pal! Unless you get your odd speed on the first try, Subaru only has 5 mph increments; your next increment is a ticket-causing 35 mph. Better pull over and start over. The cruise operates jerkily, too; speeds change abruptly even on the gentlest hills. The auto start-stop feature is annoying; like the radio, you can't permanently turn it off, only every time you start the car. It's going to be nanny-feature on all 2021 cars, btw. Wind noise on the highway is LOUD. Tell the dealer you want to test drive it at 60-80 mph to see if you can tolerate it. The engine is growly at nearly all speeds. Some reviewers said it is slow. I think it accelerates adequately, but if merging speed is crucial in your commute, get the Sport model with the "boost"S# button on the steering wheel to add some extra power at the expense of mpg. It rides smoothly overall. Honda has a "walkaway lock" feature. The Subaru has a 1985-era fob that you must extract each time to manually lock the Forester. At least it has a grab-handle unlock feature like the Honda. The sheet metal is the thinnest I've ever seen; is that why the Forester is so loud at highway speeds? It maneuvers competently, and can turn into a tight space. It's shorter than the CR-V and has a smaller turning circle. Visibility is very good. There's a teeny interior center compartment. If you expect to hide a cellphone or other valuable, try throwing them under the seat. I went from a bigger 2018 Honda Accord EX-L (Totalled in an accident.) to trying, for the first time, a small SUV like the Forester. The smaller size and turning circle are the Subaru's only recommendations in my book. I wish my Accord hadn't been wrecked. It had simpler and more intuitive controls, was quieter and faster. Parking was its only vice. I think the CR-V EX-L is better than the Forester at any trim level if you really want a small SUV.

The Forester is fantastic!
I went to look at the Subaru Ascent. However, I had to duck my head to get into the driver's seat. This was not a problem in the Forester. Also, the Forester did a better job holding my coffee cup. I ordered the Subaru Forester Touring after the test drive.

The 2019 Forester is Unsafe!
This car is advertised as putting safety first. It is anything but! It lacks the most fundamental safety feature of any automobile--the ability to accelerate out of harm's way. It's sluggish performance also makes unpleasant driving. It sheer drudgery to drive this car!

Love It!
This has been the Subaru I've been wanting when my old car was ready to give it up. And the dealer, Doyle Subaru, in Webster, NY was able to get me into a Forester which looks great both inside and out. My salesman, Len Ciotti, worked earnestly and diligently to get me the right lease agreement with reasonable payments for my budget. Mr. Ciotti genuinely listed to what my concerns were and what my likes and dislikes were and was able to come up with the best car and deal for me. Thank you. Rosemary P.

Love my car!
The minute I sat in it, I knew this was the car I wanted. There are only 2 things I would change. The first is that there is no way to turn the radio off. You can turn it off for that drive, but it will come right back on when you start the car. I turn the volume to zero when getting out of the car. Second, I have a large dog. I can set my rear hatch to open just high enough to grab her collar, but then I would have to forcefully push the door up the rest of the way. There is no way to preset the door for two heights.
