Purchased a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Limited model and I absolutely love it. It is so easy to drive and maneuver in traffic, easy to park and really great on gas. It has a pretty quiet ride, great speaker system and all the bells and whistles of more expensive vehicles. I put a lot of miles on my vehicle and am looking forward to driving this Crosstrek for a long time.

Amazing mini-SUV

This is our first SUV, and we are loving it so far. What we love: - Ride comfort. The ride quality is very comfortable, specially considering its small size. It soaks up the small bumps, and prevents those sudden jarring feelings when you hit those small potholes. - Interior space. Actually feels much bigger than it is. Plenty of room at the back as well. - Gas mileage. I was averaging around 25 mpg in mostly city driving. - Power. Not the most powerful vehicle that I have driven, but with its powerful enough with its 2.5 litter engine. - Spare tire kit. A rarity now a days. - Sound system. We're glad we bought the Harman Kardon upgrade. What we did not like so much: - Instrumentation glare. The plastic covering the instrument cluster is somehow angled wrong, which creates a glare when you're driving with the sun out. Very annoying. - No lumbar support. - No dual AC - Price. Well, with the current chip shortage, we really had no bargaining power when we bought this car, so we had to pay the Retail price, which we never did before. Overall, we are happy with this vehicle. We just hope that it will last, because we expect this to be our workhorse vehicle.

Lots of Annoying Details

Jeff, 09/02/2022
2022 Subaru Crosstrek Premium 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl CVT)
42 of 48 people found this review helpful

I have a 2022 Subaru Crosstrek Premium that I purchased new in June 2022. It is currently Sept 2022 and I have a little over 5000 miles on the car. It drives great, it is comfortable to sit in with lots of legs room for every seat in the car. It is fairly sluggish with acceleration, but that's about what I would expect from a 4 cylinder engine. The trunk size is adequate (although noticeably smaller than my old 2008 Subaru Outback). Now for the things that I don't like. Every time you turn off the car it dings and says to check the back seat even when the back seat is empty. I don't have a child or pet that I feel this warning is helpful with, however it seems there is no way to turn it off. I have found that on other Subaru models this can be turned off, however on my car that button isn't an option. I don't like the eyesight in the car, it is dangerous. I was starting to like it until one day on a two lane highway I was in the left lane and the car in the right lane was going slow. I had the adaptive cruise control on and there were no other vehicles near me other than the slow car in the right lane. I was passing them around a left turn in the road and the eyesight saw that car and slowed me from 70mph to 50mph. After this incident I no longer trust any feature of the eyesight. This brings me to the next annoyance. When you have the Anti-Collision Braking and/or Lane Departure Warning turned off, you get a bright amber light on your dashboard. This didn't seem to bother me until I drove at night, that amber light is very distracting in this situation. I don't understand why they didn't put the indicator right next to the button that you use to turn it on and off. I also don't like how I have to turn off the Anti-Collision Braking every time I get in the vehicle. Why doesn't it remember my preferences? Another issue with cruise control, whether you are using the adaptive cruise or the regular normal cruise, when you toggle the switch to adjust your speed it moves you to the next increment of 5mph. The only way to get it to move by 1mph is to press and hold the switch which is very inconvenient. When you change the speed by 5mph at a time you can feel it in the car, it will either accelerate aggressively to speed up or you can feel it braking. In both situations it is very noticeable which is why I like to adjust by 1mph at a time, I like a smooth speed adjustment. I see no reason to ever need to change your speed by 5mph instantly that I wouldn't just turn off cruise for. I don't like the positions of the paddle shifters. I don't use shifters as I don't see a reason for it, I purchased the Automatic for a reason. Every once in a while when I'm trying to press a button to change the menu or using turn signal or high beams, I will accidentally hit the paddle shifter so the car drops a gear and the engine revs a lot, you feel a jolt as the speed isn't properly matched to the rpms for that gear. It's just annoying. It does this even when you don't have the car in manual mode. It must be used for passing because after about 10-15 seconds it resolves itself if you don't do anything, but I don't think this should happen at all if you don't have it in manual mode, that's just dangerous. In my 2008 Outback it had something wrong with both of its keys so the batteries would die within a couple days. I just got used to having to put the key in the door and turn it to unlock the old fashioned way like I've had to do with every other vehicle I've owned. With this new Crosstrek this isn't a good option. If you try to unlock the car using the key, the alarm will go off. From my research, the only way to prevent this is to put the car in valet mode which turns off the security alarm entirely. So the option is don't have any security alarm or just have the alarm go off when you unlock the car. Since this new key does actually unlock the car by pressing the button I supposed I don't really have a need for manually unlocking the car, but sometimes I don't think about it and I'm greeted with a nice alarm. This is just something to think about for the future if your key battery ever dies, just be ready. My last issue is a bit nit picky. I don't like the automatic windows in the front. They are too touchy and I apparently have a bit of OCD because I want the window to sit in a certain place, it takes me forever to fight with the automatic window to get it where I want it. Lets say you want it down exactly 2 inches (I know that no one measures, but I need some example). In most cars (even with automatic windows) you can put it down and stop it fairly close to the 2 inches, then just lightly tap the button in either direction to fine tune. Not in this car, you lightly tap it and it will go all the way up or down. I spend way too much time fighting with the windows. All this being said, I do like the car. I like the orange stitching in the upholstery and the nice deep center console. It is hard to not compare this to my old Subaru Outback that I had for several years, but it definitely isn't as nice as the Outback. But that was a 2008 back when cars were made better and had less extra features. In general I would prefer as basic a car as possible. If they still made cars with crank windows and no entertainment console or backup camera I would buy it in a heartbeat, but with modern cars you are limited to what they offer and in the 2022 economy it was actually cheaper to buy this car new than it was to buy almost any used car that I looked at with less than 50k miles. All in all, decent car. I would probably get one again just because the price was low and it drove better than some other new cars or SUVs that I looked at.

Reliable & Value driven. Top vehicle in its class

Overall very good vehicle! Its safe, reliable and has excellent resale value. Fuel economy is excellent, the manual transmission shifts excellent & the vehicle handles good for being a raised up Impreza. While it is a very good vehicle, it does have alot of sacrifices! I opted for the Premium Trim with a manual transmission. The downfall to this is the manual is only available with the weaker 2.0 engine. What on earth is Subaru thinking? Don't they know that they would make a killing in sales if they offered the larger 2.5 & manual transmission. You also cannot get a sunroof or power seats if you have a manual transmission Crosstrek which was a huge letdown. I would of happily paid more money if those features were available. The base sound system absolutely sucks! There is a Rockford Fosgate option that shows available for the Base & Premium trim levels but good luck finding this option as it has been on back order for over 2 years. The Bluetooth system is typical Subaru where no one can ever hear you clearly thru the vehicles microphone & it also picks up alot of the exterior sounds / noises while driving. Every Subaru I have owned with Bluetooth has been like this.

This "baby" SUV drives like a super car but has going off road on her mind! This is a "smart " car/SUV and with all the safety features, it almost drives itself. Fun to drive, catchy design and the color is BOSS!!! Heads turn when this SUV goes on the road. just a few negatives that Subaru could do . put A/C controls for those in the back seat, put in automatic seats for the passenger seat, and automatic close for the hatchback door... other than these minor things, this is a perfect car. Zippy, fast, easy to drive and control and so trustworthy. This is my fourth Subaru and it won't be my last!!! I love all my Subies... still have my 2013 Legacy... could not let her go... oh, and all the safety features makes this one of the safest cars on the road today!!

I just purchased a new 2022 Crosstek SUV. I have never owned a Subaru before, but always wanted one due to the safety features that I always hear about. Now that I have one, I am amazed at how easy it is to drive. My previous vehicle was a Town and Country minivan, which I loved, and never thought it was difficult to drive. But my new car drives so easy, I feel like I'm not driving at all, but sitting in the passenger seat. It came with so many technical features that after a month, I am still learning how to use them. The seats are very comfortable, even for me who is a bit on the large side. I don't think anyone could go wrong with this car.

I bought my 2022 crosstrek in April 2022. I absolutely love it . I have a sport edition and the interior has crosstrek embroidered in the seats in yellow along with the yellow stitching in the steering wheel and dash which is a real eye catcher. It has the 2.5 engine which is very peppy and accelerates quickly. Plenty of leg room in the back seat and the seats are comfortable. I also love all the safety features it has. My husband has a 2004 forester that has 200,000 miles and still on the road. He is a mechanic and told me that Subaru's last forever. I bought my crosstrek because of Subaru's track record of lasting forever. Our daughter also drive a Subaru. I got so many features for the price that I wouldn't have gotten in alot of other vehicles.

I purchased my Crosstrek Limited in April 2022, and I've been so pleased with the car. All of the features it has, plus the quality materials used inside make me feel like I'm driving a luxury car. It's comfortable, fairly quiet, has a enough pep for me, and looks more expensive than it is. It has all of the latest safety features, too! Update April 2025 - Still loving my Crosstrek! Three years in an not a single problem! I've taken a couple of longer road trips, and the adaptive cruise control has been a game changer.

This is a very useful car, roomy and useful like a truck but handles as well as a touring car. The reliability is good and you get decent gas mileage. There is also a manual transmission option. Older crosstreks looks in very good shape like the brand new ones. Highly recommended.

Currently own a 2016 Impreza, 2019 Outback, and bought my 2022 Crosstrek Limited last March. I now have over 10k on it. I have owned Toyotas, Nissans, Mazdas, plus Fords and Chevys over the years, and this tops them all for more reasons than I can count. I drive for a living and my car is my office as well as transportation. It is very livable, easy to park, has all the safety features, the tech is brilliantly , and the 2.5 liter engine is a must (my Impreza 2.0 is a poor performer by my comparison so get the 2.5). I am still in love with this car and highly recommend it. Update: I had the car for 13,000 (1 year, 4 months) but I was rear ended with the other guy doing about 30mph. The insurance company totaled the car and I walked away without a scratch! I bought a 2024 Subaru Crosstrek limited.

For the most part I love it. Comfortable, good power, so easy to drive and get around town. Interior is well appointed and nice looking. Great MPG exterior looks great and love the color. Safety features are out of this world, great for hauling my Grandkids. Enough cargo space for me and my dog. We also have 2021 outback with a few more features but I don't miss them when driving the sport. Have taken a number of 400 mile trips to see the kids and always arrive refreshed. A little light on a windy day but not unmanageable. Wished it has a little more towing capacity but all in all good for me.

The alerts and assistance are nice features such as lane assistance: if you are prone to slightly swerving toward the next lane; vehicle has moved in front of you alert if you glanced away from a red light for a second. Displays on dash to choose between radio, weather, time and date, etc. Apple or android CarPlay equipped. A lot of great features that I enjoy.

Overall, this is a great vehicle in almost every way the weak link is the infotainment unit which i think is not only a Subaru issue but other manufacturers to some extent. I will say I worked with Subaru, and they came up with an update it took six months, but the update solved 90% of the infotainment issues hopefully the issue or issues that remain will be very few and not that often. The bottom line is we pay top dollar for something that is not top of the line with all parts working and we are left with the big inconvenience of following up. If they can't duplicate the problem, you are SOL when the dealer says “WELL IT'S WORKING NOW WE DON'T SEE THE PROBLEM"

One word description - annoying

1) Daytime running lights - can't turn off, 2) seatbelt chime - dealer will not change eventhough the owners manual says they can, 3) drivers seat - very uncomfortable in reclined position, 4) no keyhole on passenger side of car, 5) I frequently use the non-fob key but it only locks the drivers door leaving the rest of the car unlocked, 6) car starts in fast idle and remains at fast idle for quite a while forcing me to ride the brake or clutch, 7) mpg indicator is 10% off from actual mpg, 8) wrote subaru consumer advocacy about issues with the key in August and 4 months later still no response, 9) during first service asked questions at the dealer and was told to call New Jersey who told me to ask the dealer, 10) shifting is clunky, 11) spare tire is upside down making checking the pressure more difficult, 12) no enough headroom to pack a wheelchair standing up.

Fun and deliberately built

With the sport we have plenty of power. The hugging of road makes driving fun. Comfortable and looks great inside and out. Reliable. The sky blue color stands out against the drab normal neutral colors and makes you more easy to see. So more Safety. So far so great.

Still did not buy it. It is a good car, nice ride, nice interior. The price is too high.
