Used 2005 Scion xB Consumer Reviews
One of the best.
Bought our 2005 xBox new from the dealer. After driving an automatic, we decided we'd have to live with the stick. The difference in the fun factor with the stick shift was a decider. Dead reliable for 10 years. All maintenance done on time, it delivered a steady 34 mpg in our regular driving, down to 32 when running a steady 70 mph the highway with the air conditioning on. The upright driving position was very comfortable and the view from the driver's seat was indescribably better than the small sedans of that (and this) day. The only mechanical problem was inadvertently my fault - a vibration in the brakes after it was left parked in an open airport parking lot for two weeks with the emergency brake on. I could never get the Toyota mechanics to inspect the REAR brake drums, not the front discs. The brakes still worked fine, but had a strong vibration on hard braking.

Cheap but reliable.
I had this car for two years. The a/c stopped working, and it turned out something in the a/c pipes burst, and sent shards of metal all through the system, and it was going to cost around $800 to fix. My rear trunk panel cracked off, the interior feels cheap and "plastic-y". It's very simple, not much too it. No bells and whistles here. While it isn't extremely powerful or fast, I always had a good time driving it, and it never once broke down on me.

Family gas saver
I'm the second owner of my xB, but I feel like the first because the owners kept it like new. I traded in my WRX which got around 15 MPG (with my driving). I have no regrets at all. Although the xB is under powered it makes up for it in gas mileage. I can get around 280 miles per tank and I get 32 mpg on average. The interior is really roomy. I'm 6' 4" and still have about 3 inches of head room and plenty of leg room. I can even sit in the back seat with the front seats moved all the way back. Once I drove to the zoo and fit 5 full grown adults in my xB. The back seat passengers were a tight fit, but it still worked out.
Definitely not a mountain lion!
Does well in traffic and will cruise at 80 all day, but, in the mountains it struggles. I'm in love with mine and I have no trouble with traffic in the cities or on the freeways and throughways. Almost all of my driving is highway where the speed limit is 70 but I cruise the beaches quite a bit also where the speed limit is 25. It handles well and I carry quite a bit of gear for the most part.
