Used 2002 Saturn S-Series Sedan Consumer Reviews
Check your oil!
If you purchase this car, make sure you check your oil frequently. The car gobbles up oil like it's going out of style. And, if you're not careful it can lead to huge problems. I blew an engine at 88,000 miles. And yes, I did change the oil every 3,000 miles (or less). Overall, would I buy a Saturn again? If I didn't have the money to buy something better, I guess I would. It still looks good and with a brand new engine (and AC, cluth, alternator, and a few other things ) it's running like a champ. 'Course I do need to make sure I keep track of the oil.
The Satty
My Saturn was flawless when it was newer, and with age that seems to change, but I am generally pleased with the vehicle. I wish it had a bit more power as I have the standard 100HP 1.9L 4 cyl with 5 spd manual; I couldn't fathom what an automatic would perform like with this engine. Interior quality is excellent; not a crack on any door panel. I do hear a couple of rattles, and a bit of discoloring on the steering wheel. The paint is still in good condition and the car overall looks like new.
Great Car for the Money
I have had this car forever and its always been a really great car and very reliabile. The only major repair I had was wear bearing at around 38000, other then that no other problems
Excellent ride for the $$$
I just bought my first car, an Saturn SL1, and I haven't ever driven any car better than this babe. This car is inexpensive, but has the excellent quality. Its good 4 cylinder engine, gets up the speed and its quick and nimble when need be. Over the other cars i have driven in this price range, like the Ford Focus, the Protege, I think Saturn tops the list. Just think about it, how many recalls have there been on the Saturn SL1, but there has been so many recalls on the Focus that I have lost count! Besides that its not every year or two that your Saturn looks obsolete, it keeps its newness longer than other cars in its class. Good Saturn you're the best!!!
Wow. Need I say more?
I was inspired by an ad on TV offering a limited edition SL for $9995 including air. Only one color, but it's very nice (Silver Blue). We were going to get a used car, but the financing on this one was as good as or better than we could have gotten on anything else. The car is a light- weight, but it drives great with the standard transmission. Kinda chugs when fully loaded, but functional. Hey, it's just a work car. Also, standard equipment better than the Achieva I bought 8 years ago (ie: dual airbags, rear window defrost are my favorites).
