Saturn, Nothing Special

When buying a Saturn, I was promised a diamond, instead, I got a cubic zirconia. Although the car hasn't had major problems, the car has its share of annoyances. The low fuel light broke, headliner fell down, dome light broke, engine pings like mad, headlights shake uncontrolably, plugs foul, among other things. After taking the car back to the dealer 13 times in the first 2 years, the dealer told me not to come back. Called several Saturn higher ups in the Houston area, all of which said I should fix my own car because I was mad that everytime I took my vehicle in, they managed to break something. Called Saturn Corporate, they said they had no control over the dealerships.

Think twice before buying...

I can't quite put my finger on it, but I (and most other Saturn owners I know) would NEVER buy another. I bought used at 29,000. At 40,000 had transmission problems-had to be rebuilt costing over 1,700. Luckily we purchased an extended warranty. ALso- made loud noise which was the engine mount. After trans was fixed was driving well, but now at 71,000 I've noticed similar symptoms and sounds (whining noise)and fear it will be dead soon. Or it could run for a long time- but I'm not confident that it will.

Very Reliable Car

Believe it or not, but my previous car was Nissan Sentra GXE 1999 which I miss very little. The car had many seductive features, but it failed to perform up to my expectations. My 1998 SL Saturn was much simpler car, and so much cheaper, too! But it is the simplicity, which increases its reliability and handling! For example, not having power steering will only mean that ... it will never be such thing as the failure of it! Biggest advantage of Saturn I have is its unconditional obedience to its drivers. Whatever the season, - it will always perform well and will get you to the destination you need.
