Ram Farm Truck

Purchased new Ram 1500 in 2017. It was a bare bones work truck for farm. Needed 4x4, V8 motor, AC , power steering and no frills. For 100k miles I had only basic repairs. Etc replace leaking radiator, replace water pump. Around 100k miles the electric power steering malfunctioned. Unable to get aftermarket parts. Had to purchase unit through dealer at what I considered much too costly. Installation wasn't really a major job. At 125k miles the lifters are beginning to give problems on the 5.7 hemi. I am still deciding how I want to handle this major problem. When this truck was running it was excellent for farm jobs. Pulled trailers , jumped through rough ground in fields, hauled medium loads of feed , and AC was above average which was important in humid South Georgia. I have learned that the 5.7 is renowned for lifter problems for several years. If not for that this would have been the perfect Farm Work Truck. But the whole situation has soured my opinion of Ram Trucks. Plans in place to return to GM or Ford . I am not sure if there are many people that share my outlook but it seems all the full size truck industry has shifted away from a reliable but plain work truck that can hold up for several years actually working instead of running up and down the highway. Ford used to have the old 300 inline 6 that was invincible with very little creature comforts but would run trouble free for years. I sure wish the manufacturers would recognize this and get back to at least offering a tough basic truck for people that don't need all the high tech gadgets that are looking for a place to fall apart.
