Hunk of junk
Thee car was nice and solid ride engine and trans were strong then little by little everything started to go bad fuel pump coils water pump ( located between the exhaust manifold and the block ( if that tells you anything) now all mounts decided to go out almost forgot the ignition control module front suspension shot out the ac went out in less than 3 months and the car had only 116k miles put it like this the trans out lasted the car
Good first car
I bought this car when I was 16 and it was an awesome first car. As long as I kept up on the maintenance, it did just fine. It was a pain to work on because everything under the hood was so crammed together (something quick and easy like changing a headlight turns into 30 minutes of frustration because you can't get your hands down in there). I got a new car after the a/c went out (it's beyond repair) and passed this one on to my little brother. It now has 176,000 miles and still running great.
ok car
This Grand Am is like many others. The quad four engine is very strong for a four cyclinder car, yet is likely to suffer from cracked heads. Luckily we had an extended warranty or it would have been over $1,000 to fix. Car lost performance after 150,000 miles. Always kept up with fluid changes. Would I buy again? No.
lemon
I had nothing but trouble with this car. one thing after another, i will say this is longest i went without problem but dont leave this tiny town and don't go more than 3 miles away now. labor on this car is high. My daughter had one with problems and my niece.. but not sure about her experience with it cause she wrecked hers....anyway, mine either blew head gaskets day i got it or they already were. I had a lot of overheating problems. i may have gotten an abused car or bad one i dont know but won't ever own another.thanks. and good luck!
Still going after shoulda been dead
My car has 211000 miles on it and the only things that are wrong with it are that people just like to hit my car. The engine is still running smoothly. All I've had to do is change the oil regularly, change the spark plugs, and change out a faulty alternator
Neutral
Rough engine. Tranny replaced and new transmission has same problems. Many of the cars produced with the 3 speed automatic have a problem with the torque convertor or auxilary valve body. Believe me very expensive to fix. Check the trans fluid b4 buy. If it smells burnt BEWARE. Fluid should be blood red with a sweeter smell to it. GoodLuck
GrandAm will be my next choice
Great car.....lots of use with good gas economy. Only complaint is weak head design. Bad for blown head gaskets or cracked heads.
great car with little trouble.
I've owned this car from day one off the lot and now it has over 168,000 mi on it. I am on my third set of tires and brakes. no major problems to date. I think the key to the reliabilty is keeping up on the maintanence i.e.. oil changes, trans fluid and filter done on time. still have the same muffler which for me is unusual considering the mileage. virtually no external body rust and this car has been kept outdoors for the better half of the past 9 yrs. hope to get over the 200,000 mark.
Personnal
My car is great, drives great, holds curves like it owns them. I don't like the arm rests because the door side of the armrests are not secured ( only w/ glue). The lighter keeps blowing fuses. The straps on the sunvisors are streched out so you have to fold them. Climate control knobs really need work.
1993 Grand Am GT Quad 4
We were looking for a nice older third car to put miles on without feeling guilty. The Quad 4 is the only reason I considered this car. We bought it from a GM mechanic in showroom condition with 61k miles and all receipts. However, little problems pop up almost weekly (see below). Its not exceedingly fun to drive with its poor shifter feel. Quad 4 revs rather slowly for a 175hp 4 cylinder with a 7,000 rpm redline. Suspension is stiff and harsh, yet handling performance is average. Acceleration isnt blistering, but itll move if it's kept wound up. Overall, I'm not surprised with our experience so far. It's almost 10 years old and just showing some age.
my second grand am love it
great car loves curves and owns em. milage is high to a tank. nice size tank (15 gal.) air and heat work great works well love the sound system in it. all original parts. 117,000 miles now. put on 4 in the past 4 months. love my car
Luv my car...
Fun to drive...great to look at...comfortable enough to burn miles all day long. I'm used to V-6 engines, but the High Output Quad 4 sure does have some guts to it for a 4-cylinder engine. Also, here in Toronto, my 2- door GT with the High Output QUAD 4 motor is a rare thing...adds to the fun of owning and driving this car where every other car is a Honda Civic or a Chevy Cavalier.
great car, never dies!
great car, got 242K Kms on it and it will take me that many more. All i changed was brakes, oil, usual stuff.
93 Grand Am SE 3.3L
All in all a good car. 3.3 L engine is very durable. I have a friend with one with nearly 200K miles. Interior is over styled would prefer a more practical interior design. The suspension shows its economy car roots by thumping over any road surface that isn't perfect. Had problem with transmission m torque converter modulator but it was reasonable enough to fix(under $200)at A&F Transmission in Haskell NJ. MPG is excellent on highway but falls off a lot around town. Have over 90000 miles and except for the trans modulator and alternator replaced at 75k the car has been trouble free.
Grand Am 01850
Vehicle good but had small proble with head gasket
Awesome Car
I bought a used 1993 grand am for my first car. It needed some repairs, granted. I found out later that the previous owners never took care of it mechanically, never had a tune up in the 10 yrs, rarely had an oil change, stuff like that. After I had everything fixed, this car runs like new. Even though it has 106,000 miles on it, it runs like a new car. I havent had any problems with it, it is extremely comfortable, especially on long college trips I take frequently. Recommend it to anyone. ~justin
Poor Beater
I inherited this car from my mom. wasnt very inthusiastic cuz it looks ugly and is slow. it was reliable while my mom had it but im sure 11 years took a toll on it, especially after i started driving it(its my first car). i wouldnt reccomend this car to anybody except old ladys and blind people. just thought id add my two cents.
Hope You Like to Spend Money
I got this car as a graduation present in 2002. It came with 70,000 miles on it. It now has 114,000 miles and its sitting in my driveway - practically dead. SO many things have gone wrong with it over the years. New alternator, new window opener thing, new muffler, new rotars/brake pads, those are just the repairs I can remember. Right now the brake system is failed, there is something wrong with the fuel injector, and it smells really bad after I drive it. Maybe newer Grand Ams are okay, but this thing has been nothing but a burden to me. I wouldnt recommend getting one with high mileage. Its just not worth it.
not a bad deal
I have been very pleased with this vehicle, very dependable. I would buy again if in market for a car with pep that's fun to drive and that won't burn a hole in my pocket. looking into a truck (suv) now. If the "Vibe" had more power I would purchase it.
Been good to me
I got my car in 1999 and have loved it since. Minor things here and there, but I have always been able to count on it. Now it is reaching 170,000 miles and it is reaching its end. I have loved this car, it has GREAT get up and go power. But I don't think it was made to go alot of miles.
trash
has a 3.3L V6, bought it with 94,500miles on it. Changed the oil, tran fluid, & air filter, when i bought the car. about 6,000 miles later.. the car runs like garbage. the transmission slips in 2 gears, the fuel pump is in desparate need of replacement, loses power, and about 10 other freqent on & off noises that occur. Would never purchase another pontiac vehicle. TRASH!
best car ever
my dad bought this car from a woman he knows. when we purchased it, it had 174,000 miles. it now has over 208,000. i have never had a mechanical problem with it, nor a reliablity problem(and believe me i abuse this car to no end). this is the most reliable car i have owned. i would like to up grade to a newer grand am, but i don't want to give up my car. i love pontiacs. they are the most reliable american made cars. and are fairly inexpensive. i would recommend a grand am to anyone looking.
1993 Grand AM Review
I got a 1993 as my first car out of college. I liked the looks, but would not recommend this as a used car. I kept a detailed log of my repairs and got rid of the car at about 100,000 miles. My first big problem is during heavy rains, a giant puddle would appear on the passenger floor (hard to believe, but true). Also, the "check engine" came on, but multiple mechanics could never fix it...so it always was on...never a comfortable feeling before long road trips. Also had problems with the head gasket, transmission, and heater.Overall, it was frustrating as I kept the car very clean, but couldn't trust it. After 16 years driving GM, I will not by another.
I love GM!!!
After I crashed my 95 t-bird I was hard up for a new car. I needed something that had stlye but I was broke. So I got a 93 GA with only 69,000 miles on it for only $1400! I thought it was a steal considering it handled far much better than the rear-drive ford ecspecialy since i live in ILL with that horrible weather 9 months out of the year!! The MPG is excellent around 30! But reliablity was not a good as my last car though, at 92000 I needed a new cylinder head, later i needed a heater core and at 132000 i needed a new ignition and computer oh and a radiator. Today with 134000 it runs good as i bought it with just a little tiny problem with my fuel ingection.Iluv the cheak oil light!!
Terrific Car
I was always facinated by Grand AMs. It was always ahead of its age. The wonderful styling, to the powerful acceleration to the thrifty milage,,,, all of these factors have endeared it to me. Its very comfortable and spacious.
pieceoftrash
I was very disappointed that such a beautiful-looking car (inside too) could be the worst nightmare of my life. Not even 2 days after it was purchased, all problems occurred. After 100K miles, everything is programmed to fall apart. First, P realized the rotors were worn so thin, the car was very unsafe. Same with front/rear brakes. Car was shaking (steering wheel) like crazy! Had hardly any tread on 2 front tires, car actually shut off at a 4-way stop! That's scary. I thank God my boyfriend was right behind me, trying to figure this out! Then, battery went (twice), car started running (overheating in red zone) very hot. No heat in car! Bad heater core. No more Grand Ams ever!!!
It works for me....
This car has taken me on several long trips and has been especially fun to drive on twisty roads with it's 115Hp engine. I put some wider tires on it to improve its handling, and it has worked out for me. I've had to replace the alternator, heater core, and the A/C is making a funny noise at times. I don't find this to be too bad considering my history of driving cars that hate me.
Piece Of Junk!
I purchased my Grand Am 3 years ago. Everything started falling apart at only 107,000 miles! Repairs: rotors, brakes, front struts, shocks, engine overheating and faulty cooling fan! This is unacceptable for a "piece of junk" with such low miles! I would not recommend ANY year Pontiac Grand Am even to my worst enemy! Very, very poor build quality and a big zero for engine or anything reliability!
93 Grand am
this is a great car
GOOD CAR... GREAT VALUE
I have found that this is a well built and reliable car... problems with the water pump, but nothing major.. key to life is good maintainence, not very forgiving if you let it go beyond normal maintainence. Good car for the value.
great car
all around great car would definitely recommed
93 Grand am
this is a great car
93 Grand Am SE V6 3.3L
Very fun car, has a sporty look and feel to it. Just keep it in good shape!
First car I owned
This car had a few good points. It was quick, had decent performance, and was moderately comfortable. Other than that, my car was a disaster. Everything broke on it. The starter, water pump, engine mounts, window motors, interior controls, it leaked in the rain and smelled like mildew. I drove it 50k miles in three years and it was a total nightmare for me.

Junkyard Grand Am
This car belongs in a junkyard or I will personally drive it off a very steep cliff myself!! I bought this car about 2 years ago and here's the condition it was in: Barely any brake pad lining left on the front, rotors were warped beyond belief (for some reason these Grand Ams eat brakes like there's no tomorrow), severe steering problems, it overheated on the way home (of course, not on the test drive!), a power-steering fluid leak and at a 4-way stop, it just shut off on its own!!! I bought it to put a few repairs into it, the low miles on it (107,000) and the nice exterior and interior design which I find very attractive on these "cars". I do not recommend this garbage to anyone!
