Bought the car with 48K on the car. Since I have owned it (over a year) I have been through TWO coil packs, countless quarts of oil because it leaks and the speedometer and gas gauge only work periodically. The windows leak and the headlights are lame. My rear speakers are blown as well.

My Neon

This 5-speed Neon is a peppy little, gas-saving, bundle of fun to drive. The trunk is amazinly large and the back seat can fit two adults fairly comfortably and three uncomfortably - okay for not too long a drive. If I had a negative comment about this car, it would be that climbing hills is trying because I do lose power doing so, but I've had it for 10 years and still love it.

My 1995 Plymouth Neon was a great car until it gave up the ghost. I bought it used in 2000 with 51,000 miles on it. I used it extensively to drive from KS to WI, and for a while had a 60 mile one way daily commute. The first problem was that the AC blew out on long trips...froze up the compressor. I had it fixed twice, it broke twice, and I gave up. Then at about 165,000 miles, I lost the timing belt because of the water pump going out, and the last straw was a blown piston ring at 176,000 miles. The body is still surprisingly good despite WI and KS winters. All in all, this is a great little daily driver, and I'm thinking of putting in a remanufactured engine to get some more life out of the body.

Bought used 17,000 miles on it. I drove for 5 months before two of the valves cracked. Dealer replaced my car 4 free. Problems soon began, 1) Had the brakes replaced at 35,000, cracked down the middle.(2)Oil pan started to leak, replaced gasket.(3) speedometer stoped working. (4) Had the A/C compressor replaced. 5) Changed the lower engine mount. POS had cost me $3000 in repairs and caused 5 major problems. Car started to leak oil, this time it was the rear main seal. Car had been lightly driven and now had 52,000 miles. Enraged, I sold it to a kid for $1000. Car had a fair value of around $3500. Lost thousands of dollars on this vehicle.

Bought the Neon with 40,000 miles in '96. We have put almost nothing into repairs in all these years. Around 90k, the speedometer broke and the front passenger window wouldn't close if you dared open it. That door sometimes gets stuck and won't open and needs prying. The exterior paint has peeled and looks like a Florida sunburn. Now, somewhere over 100,000 miles, the A.C.has finally died. You gotta love this car! It keeps on running and has never left us stranded. We figure we got our money's worth and have been using it to make quick trips around town.

Way more problems than a car is worth. In 80k of miles I've had the A/C go out twice, blown a head gasket, completely remake the brakes twice and numerous other problems. You buy a cheap car you get a cheap car. I wish I had bought a Civic

So far, this car has been very fun to drive and have had no problems with it. It is a great gas saver car and runs very well. It has a few mods to it and really flys down the road. I love the car and would tell others to get one. If you take care of the car, it will last you for a long time as this one has.

I would never in a million years buy another Neon. The only thing that I found Neon about the car was the glowing sign above it that says P.O.S. Every mechanic I have talked to said that this is about as bad a car as you can get. I had to have the brakes (the whole thing. brakes, calipers, etc) because there is an apparent problem Chrysler had with the OEM brakes and they rust so much that the front calipers stop working. Now, after only 65,000 miles of regular driving, not racing, the whole transmission needs to be replaced. This car has been in the shop at least once a year for a $1k repair. Overall, this is the worse vehicle anyone could ever want.

Positives: Fun to drive. Good acceleration. ABS saved my life once. Good reliable car for almost 8 years until my son totaled it. Negatives: At 5 years needed new AC charge. At 7 years, replaced fan relay ($8 bucks).

Burned up its first spark plugs in 9K miles; on its 8th set now. Replaced A/C compressor twice, brake master cylinder, vacuum assist, turn signal switch twice, trunk seals, MOTOR MOUNTS at around 20K, OEM tires lasted only 26K; BUT...at 73K now has minimal rattles and squeaks, and still holds a dead-straight line. Head gasket hasn't blown yet, a common problem in early Neons; does not burn oil or smoke. The interior isn't falling apart, although the floor mats don't hold position too well. Has very limited cargo space, although the rear seats fold down. The 3-speed automatic, maligned by many, has given me no grief.

This car is cheap, fun to drive, and, in my experience, very reliable. The only problem that I've had is that the radio burned up and damaged the AC controls at around 90k miles. Other than that, I've done nothing but normal maintenance. This car is great.

I started out in my Neon with a lease. Big mistake! I wound up paying a lot of money for it in the long run, but the car went everywhere, cross-country 3 times, up and down the west coast 5 or 6 times. Just now, at 100,000 miles is the car giving me problems. I just replaced the timing belt, h20 pump, etc. I'd like to get rid of it for something a bit bigger.

Bought new. First week stock battery failed. Driver's door handle squeaks since new - never solved. First month speedometer head failed. Rear alignment so bad that original tires lasted less than 25,000 miles w/ proper rotation. Head gasket went at 75,000. Water pump seized at 105,000 at hiway speed. Bent all 16 valves. On 2nd A/C compressor... Space limits failure list.

I bought this car when first available. It has been trouble free to drive I now have 145K miles on it. Nothing but routine maintainence, no oil leaks and great gas mileage. My husband does the tuneups and oil changes. He loves the fact that you can count on this car to perform.

I've had this car for 7 years. Head gasket replaced under warranty at about 10k. AC failed at 56k. Besides that, however, NOTHING has failed. Just fill up the gas, change oil, and go! Unfortunately, now, at 100k, I noticed some leaks under the car. I've been told it's a bearing seal. Overall: great looking, pretty reliable car. Well, after saying "Hi!" (remember that?), it's time to say "Bye!" to this cute car.

Excellent exterior, no paint chips after almost 8 years. Great gas mileage. the only problem I can complain about is some electrical work. The horn wasn't working when I bought it so I had it fixed. It needed a new clockspring-needless to say it's a $100 part, but it works perfectly fine now. I sometimes have problems with the left signal, it will only work when a press the signal lever down firmly-but it doesn't happen always. It's a fun car to drive with enough room for friends and belongings.

After this car I swore not to ever own another American car again. At first, it was great, looked great, drove great, but problems really started around 40K mileage. A couple of factory recalls, which was really expected since it was its first year in the market. But now I have to get a new car, because at 80K, the engine is burning oil and I have to check the oil levels every week and add more to it. Compared to Japanese cars, this is a true junk and unless you have money to waste, don't buy it!

Our Neon had been a reliable workhouse for the nine years that we have owned it. When it cmae my tunr to drive 2 years ago it was my first car, and it was always fun to drive and it has a peppy 4 cylinder engine. We have never had any major problems with it and it's still running strong. I must say though that the factory sound system leaves alot to be desired.

Great gas mileage. Getting 38 to 41 mpg highway and 29 to 30 here which is in some serious mountains -- traveling over two mountains twice a day with elevations from 900 to almost 4000 feet. Handles good and plenty of power for something that gets that good of gas mileage. Front seats roomy but small back legroom. Large trunk. Headlight lenses turned milky over the years and rubber gaskets around windows, etc. cracking. Easily shifts gears, paint not so great.

I bought my Neon Sport new and have nothing negative to say about it. I did have a couple of problems (that were covered by warranty) so it wasn't too bad. The car is now 10 years old with 280,000 miles and with the exception of some color fading (just on the hood and left front panel)which no one can explain since the rest of it looks new no other problems!

I bought my Neon in 1997 at an Enterprise Rental Cars Used Car Sale with 30,000 miles on it. Compared to the car I had been driving, the Neon was a Cadillac. The engine was peppy, the interior was spacious, and the sound system was not bad. However, I had plenty of problems with the car... A/C broke, the speedometer stopped working, the trasnmission needed to be replaced, etc. The trunk was huge, the rear seats roomy for friends and it was a good car for someone in high school and college, even though it didn't have cruise control. I upgraded to a Mercury Cougar in 2001 and now the Cougar feels like a Cadillac...which I know it isn't.

I bought my Neon three years ago at a car auction. As a high school student, it was my first car. Originally I was thrilled to have ANY car but my trusty Neon has turned out to be a great buy. I have had absolutely no problems and I have put maybe $300 in maintenance/repairs into it. It is an excellent car for any high school or college student.

I just bought my Neon and I love it! The engine could offer some more torque in the low end, but top end performance is pretty decent. I bought a Neon that was 11 years old and although the paint is starting to peel on the spoiler and hood, I wouldn't trade it for the world. The child seat fits comfortably in the back and there is room to spare. I wish the interior features were a little more accommodating (very difficult to get a 32 oz. cup in the cupholders and the armrest sits a little too low). However, I am now a believer in the Neon.

After 13 years of faithful service my little Neon is still going. I have had to have some repairs/maintenance done on it lately but no more than any other 13 year old car. It handles awesome, well balanced, corners like it's on rails, go from 0-60 in a blink, can stop on a dime. Great visibilty out of all the windows no blind spots unlike many cars today. Super comfortable seats, roomy interior for a small car, feels bigger than it is. Still gets good gas mileage.

I leased & then bought my Neon. I haven't had any major problems with it. I have replaced the brakes once & both oxygen sensors were replaced within the past 18 months. I have had an oil leak for over a year (which the instant oil change guy told me he sees in most Neons). It is leaking less than 1/2 quart per month. Overall, I like the car but am ready for something new.

Having to replace two cars in one year, we opted for two Neons due to their excellent handling, comfort, and ergonmic interior. For the first 60,000 miles, these cars required nothing but normal maintenance. After that: the infamous head gasket leak (both), refrigerant leaks in the air conditioner (both), major paint peeling, radio failure, clutch cable breakage, starter motor failure, ignition system failure, turn signal lever would stick. Repairs are expensive and many never really fixed the problem (esp. head gasket, ignition, and A/C).
