Used 2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SL 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A) Consumer Reviews
Fast Car
I love it. This car is very powerful. It is more fun to drive on the highway than in city traffic. If you want near luxury and speed this is the car.
only problems
The car look great but the praise stops there. I spent over $5000 in repairs. ABS replaced (@2500), bearings wheel ($1000) axle shaft ($500), fuel rail ($450) to name just a few. I spend more time dealing with the problems of this car than with any other car I owned, and I have quite a few The dealership service was very unprofessional and rough, All in all I wouldn't recommend this car to anybody to buy.

04 Maxima GL Problems
This is my 4th Maxima and I am not happy. There is a serious shift problem with the new autoshift, 5 speed transmission on GL's sold after Feb 2004. The dealer says "it's normal" but other owners have the same problem!!! The gas cap is designed very badly. I just replaced the XM antenna, 2nd time, and it still works only about 60% of the time.
2004 Maxima
I've had my Maxima for 3weeks and love to drive it. I traded in two sports cars to have this luxurious sports vehicle. I'd give it a 10 if it had a convertible top. I miss my 300zx and Mazda Miata.
Very Poor Quality Vehicle
I absolutely will never, ever buy Nissan products again. The issues with this car are innumerable but I'll try and include them in order of decreasing cost to fix: New transmission (other complaints on this site) @ 70K miles, new paint job due to defective black paint that lasted only 3 years, new front struts at 65K miles, new front bearings @ 60K miles, front wheel shimmy is recurring issue since day 1, front headlamps are not clear due to sun after 4 years. The front turning radius is that of an 18-wheeler.
