Used 2004 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SL 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 5A) Consumer Reviews
Disappointed
The car which should be the most exciting to drive is but, at the same time it's the most disappointing. The quality of the interior is horrid. Have had it to dealerships 6 times because of fog, crud, slime on back side of dashboard display panel. The leather seats are loosely covered as if with a leather slip cover. Car looked heavily used after barely a week of ownership. This fun car to drive is a big big disappointment.
Better than a Beemer
It's a great car, the engine performance is all I had hoped for. I love that there is a lot of space inside and compared to both the 3 and new 5 series BMW, I feel you get a lot more bang for your buck, especially when you consider maintenance costs. The navigation system is a big plus for me and although it took some time to figure out it has some great features!

only problems
The car look great but the praise stops there. I spent over $5000 in repairs. ABS replaced (@2500), bearings wheel ($1000) axle shaft ($500), fuel rail ($450) to name just a few. I spend more time dealing with the problems of this car than with any other car I owned, and I have quite a few The dealership service was very unprofessional and rough, All in all I wouldn't recommend this car to anybody to buy.
04 Maxima GL Problems
This is my 4th Maxima and I am not happy. There is a serious shift problem with the new autoshift, 5 speed transmission on GL's sold after Feb 2004. The dealer says "it's normal" but other owners have the same problem!!! The gas cap is designed very badly. I just replaced the XM antenna, 2nd time, and it still works only about 60% of the time.
Poor Quality
Buying this car has been a huge disappointment. In the first month the car has been back to dealer multiple times for tire rotation, tire replacement, and lowering air pressure in tires. Car continues to have front end vibration on freeway. I am told that is how Nissan cars are. Glove box not flush when closed. Part on order to repair. This is the first and last Nissan I will ever own. Drive the car over 60 mph before you buy.
