2004 Maxima SE, Automatic
We have had our Maxima for 21/2 months and are absolutely enthralled with it. We choose the 2004 over the year end 2003 for various reasons. first we wanted the most modern version. Second we love the changes in appearence and the larger, roomier interior. and of course all of the whistles and bells abailavle too us.
Hands Down Best Nissan Has built to Date
This is my 3rd Max and it is hands down the best one I've owned. I also own 1996 Gle. Nissan has out done themselves with this model. Me and wife fight over who is going to drive it next.

The nissan product is the best, Ive owned nissans for16 years and my new maxima is the best for the money. Dealing with Peruzzi was a great expierience
Stepping up from 5sp Lexus cp
After almost 3 months and 8000 miles this car is a dream come true. Coast to coast without a single problem . The convience of every feature made for a very pleasant journey. At 82 years I am really enjoying the 265hp & auto transmssion
owesome max. 04
had a sentra first. very nice compact. It doesn't compare at all to the max. 04 I wanted to get the altima, but when I saw the new maxima I went wowwwwww.!!!!!!! It handles very nice in tight curves and the engine power is fenomenal!!!!!!
A car that will shorten your trips
After 3 months ownership I am more impressed with the car now than when I purchased it. Excellent ride and performance. Very comfortable, two hour drives seem short. Great fuel mileage of 22 mpg around town and 25 mpg on the road. Chose this car over 2004 Infiniti G35. Maxima is larger and more roomy. Maximas retain better resale value after 4 years than Infiniti (wife has 2000 Infiniti I30 and 2000 maximas bluebook for more.
Fast and Fun
I have been very happy with my Maxima SL since I bought it 20,000 miles ago. It has great acceleration, handling and a quiet smooth ride. The gas mileage is acceptable for the type and performance. I had a few minor quality issues initially, but the dealer has been very good about fixing them. I do a lot of driving and they've done a good job of keeping the road and wind noise down. I looked at a lot of vehicles in my price range and this had the best combination of performance, ride, and interior room. I have been very satisfied with the selection.
Awsome in every way
Love everything so far!
Dont buy this car
I have had nothing but trouble with this car. I will never buy a Nissan again. The turn radius is similar to a huge truck. I kept getting flat tires because the chrome kept peeling from the wheels and the tires would not bond to the wheel and hold in the air. The transmissions are faulty. I have seen many reviews from others with the same transmission problem. I am sure Nissan knows about the bad transmissions. They told me when it was in warranty that it was broken motor mounts. I would not expect to have 2 broken motor mounts unless I hit something. A few hundred miles later and out of warranty transmission goes south. The interior buttons are cheap plastic and they crack and break lose.
Greatest Max
Bought the 3.5 SE with auto trans and majestic blue exterior. Love the engine and trans combo (dual mode smoothness), performance that seems lethargic but is actually hot, terrific engine growl under hard acceleration, absolutely NO torque steer with auto trans (have not driven manual). I evaluated the GS400 (used), 2004 TL, G35 Coupe and sedan, ALTIMA V6 and the Maxima represents the best bang-for-buck overall. Recommend as a solid buy, although resale not its strength. I have received so many compliments and admiring glances from other motorists, including from wealthy drivers of euro high-end sedans and coupes.
Max-Max
A completely new Maxima. The 3.5 V6 is a gem. The car was a one of the first delivered in Orange Co.CA and had a few things that needed correction. It had a defective windshield which Nissan promptly replaced. No mechanical problems whatsover. We have about 6K miles on the car and it performs flawlessly.
Maxima 2004 Review
The power is great, sound sstem is excellent. Internal design is good
Carey's 2 cents
A fun to drive head turner
Lanny's review
Nissan keeps building better maxima's. The 2004 is the ultimate driving machine. I know it will not let me down. The styling is great, inside and outside. For the price, the maxima is always the best buy. The quality is un- matched. Thank you, Nissan.
One month only review for 2004 maxima
I had the maxima for only 1 month. So far so good. It's very smooth on the highway and has power to spare. Still finding extras such as garage door opener built in, storage space above the rear view mirror, side view mirrors folding in.
MAXIMUM MAXIMA!
What a great car! I previously owned a 1997 Maxima and loved it. I just turned in a Lexus IS300 and loved that too. But this is everything I had in the Lexus in a more sizeable and comfortable performance sedan. Couldn't believe it could come with all the options I had in the Lexus. Exceptional comfort plus power.
LOOKING GOOD
AND I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME WHO NOTICED THE HORRIBLE TURNING RADIUS, MENTIONED MANY TIMES.
Greenvikings Maxima
We just purchased this car a couple of weeks ago. We are very impressed with the styling and performance of this car. The new design stands out much more than the previous years design and still has the quality. The dealership I bought from was superb.
Driven
Has plenty of kick, good on gas too. More room than previous models. Anything you can think of as an option...most of them STANDARD! Great car and fantastic track record...Nissan got it right this time!
Looks Good - Quality Bad
14,000 miles - Sun windows leaked causing rust and paint to bubble. 21,000 miles - Significant shimmy in steering wheel at speeds above 45mph. Deal stated nothing was wrong. Tires needed replacement. Non-affiliated repair shop identified cause of shimmy and tire wear as being out of round wheel hubs. This is a very common problem with this year / model. Hubs were replaced and problem was corrected. 47,000 miles - ABS system failure. The causes are the bolts on the hub and wheel assemble rust. This allows the mounting plate to move causing the sensor to short out. This causes the control unit to burn out. The repair is $3,000.00 This is a very common problem on this year/make.
More Pros Than Cons
Saw this car while on vacation in Florida and fell in love with it. It's a very competent road car, with powerful acceleration and a roomy cabin. Styling (other than grille) is top notch. Had to replace front shocks under warranty and now there is a vibration in steering wheel. I hope can be remedied with tire balancing, but have read many complaints in the past about wheel/tire issues related to this. Overall, have been very happy with car and it's the best one I've ever owned.
This is my third Maxima
This is a great car inside and out. Comfortable and exciting to drive. Only objections are the poor turning radius and the occasional tendency of the car to "get away" from you when accelerating under certain conditions, two flaws I knew about before purchasing, but which did not deter me because Maximas are so reliable. Also, original set of tires went 60K miles before needing replacement. I owned 1989, 1994 and 2004 models and liked them all. Had zero mechanical problems. Drove the 1994 for 10 yrs, 105K miles and sold it for $5K. I do a lot of highway driving and this car is fantastic for long trips.
My Nissan
When it was time to buy a new car. I knew that Nissan was going to be the car of choice. We had owned a Maxima before and after 10 years and 140,000 miles, sold it to my nephew, as a first car. He still is driving it...and that has been 3 years ago! We purchased a 2004 Nissan Maxima. I liked the sleek, sporty design, and it still had enough interior room for the kids in my carpool! I was glad to see the return of smaller rear lights. The only thing I have noticed is the ride of the car. Because the standard tires are Eagle Goodyear low profile, you can feel every bump, groove. It sometimes feels like you are riding in a truck!
AWESOME CAR!!!
I purchased the 2004 Nissan Maxima over a month ago, and I LOVE IT. Its sytlish, fun to drive, and easy to handle. This car fits my personalilty - which is professional, fun, outgoing, full of energy, and stylish!! I highly recommend the 2004 Nissan Maxima. This is my second Maxima, and I am sold on this car.
I love my Maxima but....................
I've had my Maxima for almost a month now. I love the speed and handling. But I've also notice a weird bumping sound coming from the back when I go over bumps on the road. Also a small ratling sound coming from the hood. I am not sure if it's the air conditioner or the engine. I haven't had time to take into the dealer, but will do it sometime this week, other than that I love the car.
Max is the best!!!!
This car can handle pot holes, sharp turns, wet pavement!!! The sounds system is awesome! Mines is black w/tint on the windows.
love my maxima
I recently bought a 2004 maxima. Although I try not to be too materialistic, I have to say that I love my maxima. It is very roomy and I feel safe in this car
Probably the worst car I've owned
Just got rid of the 2004 Maxima I got in June. First it was a brutal wind noise that after 4 visits to the dealership was finally fixed. Then, the sun roof stopped closing. It would open fine but would tricky to get closed. I could not handle another trip to Nissan Service to fix. Hence, I am the happy drive of a previously owned BMW 525I with 9,000 miles on it. Take my advice, go to BMW and go with a proven winner. This is a 30K car but if you need service you are relegated to the no frills Nissan Dealership. If you must buy from Nissan at least step up to the Infiniti, that way when your car has its problems you will at least be treated well.
Magnificent
Experience is a great car I love my car
Best Vehicle I Have Owned
This is a great car. The performance is outstanding and the interior is very good, especially considering that I am 6' 6" tall. The only problem that I have had is with the soft rims and low profile tires, all original equipment. I have damaged 3 rims so far.
Maxima still great
Hope Nissan tweaks 2005 This is 4th Max Sporty enough to keep adrenaline up but more luxurious for older bones Int/ext quality not as good as prev Max Question durability Hey Nissan, loyal customers shouldnt doubt
nice car
i had to order mine,I have the radiant ember with burnt orange leather 4 seater, elite pk,navigation i's fully loaded. It runs like all 265 horses are right there it's a good running car I like it.I had 1990 it was cool 2
Eye Catcher
This is the second, and best, Maxima that I have owned. It looks good moving or parked. The interior is quiet and comfortable, but there is a throaty sound to the acceleration that is very satisfying to the ear. I highly recommend this vehicle.
2004 MAX SL is a Great Car
After three weeks and 2400 miles I am very pleased with my new Max. Great power and exellent cruising on the highway. It really wants to go! Around town it seems a fair bit bigger than my 95 Maxima but I am getting used to it quickly.
Dream Car
This is my 4th Maxima. It is a dream to drive. I would recommend this car to anyone who wants a sharp looking car; power; and reliability.
04 MAX
Have 9000 miles and no warranty issues. Will try to adjust doors on right side to see if road noise goes away. Great on long trips, very comfortable
Best bang for the buck!
This unique vehicle always brings a smile to my face and Nissan's service is phenomenal about answering any questions I have. If you are considering a perfomance sedan, this one should be at the top of your list!
SHIFT AND HAVE FUN
I have had ny car for a year now,I love it. It's fun to drive and sorry bmw don't get mad at me if you can't say with me on an open road.I love my BOSE SOUND SYSTEM. Shift and have fun.
Fantastic Maxima - Best in the Market
Usually I do not give review unless I like the vehicle 100%. The 6th generation maxima is best in the industry. I purchased the vehicle in Aug, 2004 since then I put on around 18500 miles. No major problems. Only problem I had initially was with balancing. That was resolved with in 2 months after I purchased. Since then till today, I have no other issues. I always use premium fuel and getting consistent 25 miles per gal. Till today my car looks beautiful as new. Excellent performance and very comfortable. Before I used maxima, I used Toyota and Honda vehicles. They never come closer to the 6th generation maxima. I love my maxima. Thanks to Nissan
New Nissan Owner
I previously drove an Infiniti J30 and was skeptical as to whether I could replace it with any car. The Nissan is great to drive! I love the radio on the steering wheel and the faux suede accents on the interior. The dash is clean and streamlined, unlike other cars with BIG dials. I selected the regular sunroof (a must for me) over the roof windows and I am very happy with everything. I test drove alot of cars including Infiniti, Acura and Mercedes and quickly selected the Maxima. The engine power is outstanding and highway driving is a breeze.
Rate the 04 max to the max
This is a outstanding automobile with great performance and superior exterior style.
Great Car...and made in Tennesee
Did much research before buying this car, it came down between a Acura TL and the Maxima. After driving both I can't see how anyone could not fall in love with this car. I got the SE 5- speed with sunroof and Journey package. There are so many new toys included in the new Maxima but the real joy is how quite and effortlessly it cruises at 100mph The looks will shock you at first but then after a close look you say "cool". Had a hard time finding the color and options I wanted due to 9000 Maximas getting hail damage at the factory, which is leaving dealers short on inventory. Still I was able to buy it for $300 over invoice.
Undecided
I love my maxima, but as previously stated, it makes so much noise while youre driving it. It feels like you're riding it offroad and it makes the driver and passenger shake. My front struts also went bad a 7k miles. other then that, I love it. I dont know if I'd buy another maxima in the future.
Sleek Look
I have had my Maxima for about 3 months. I have two sons and we all love the roomy interior. The only fault I found is the turning radius and the front wheel drive is not my favorite, but I am getting use to it. I love it!
Nissan Has A Winner
I have to tell you. I've had my Max since 2003. It's a great car with both power and style. Still turns heads after 2 years! The engine is smooth and powerful without sacrificing MPG. I avg. 24.9 MPG. Not bad for such a strong motor! If I have anything negative to say, it's nothing different that what's already been in reviews - fix the torque steer issue and work on the wide turning radius. Other than that - I love my Maxima!!
BEST CAR
This is the greatest car I have ever had. It is so smooth to drive it and its extremely powerful and fast.
A great car
The car is solid. The transmission is superb and I like the styling. I have 8200 miles on the car and had a few rattles in the interior, but the power train is the best I have ever driven. I didn't know that Renault is the primary owner of Nissan when I bought this car!! After 4 months, I have only seen 2 or 3 more of these on the road!
Boy This Thing Is FASTTT
This car is so fast it's almost scary to drive. THIS model is definately worthy of the title of "4-door sports car"
2004 Maxima SL
Most outstanding noticable feature is the motor performance - - smooth, very good response. Handles easily. Interior is excellent, very comfortable with passenger controls. Many features. Interior is very roomy. Significantly larger than the Camry we owned previously.
Great Car
This is truly a drivers car, and the bose 320 watt system is great.Nissan went all the way with this new design. This car turns more heads than a Mercedes!
