No one builds them like Japan

I purchased this baby last month. I paid $2,000 and has spent about $1,500 on repairs. I've replaced the radiator, drive belts, valve cover gaskets, one fuel injector, two ignition coils, and all six spark plugs. All failed parts were originals. Avoid the dealership for repairs because it's extremely expensive. The car drives and handles like a charm. The body is solid and paint still shines. It has power and acceleration that throws you back in your seat. The volume control on radio doesn't work, so it gradually gets louder. A cassette tape is also stuck inside. It's a 5-speed. The original clutch was replaced two years ago. Car has 158,000 miles. Good for at least 150,000 more.

If you want a car that can beat any other stock car at any stop light this is the one for you. It can do it with the most comfortable interior, five speed trans(optional) and a 190hp V6 that comes standard. The only shortcoming of this car towards the camry and accord is the suspension. Its a little stiff, but it makes that up in the turns. This huge thing can take any tight corner with ease, and as every street racer knows stiffer suspension means more grip in turns. I've driven the carmy and accord, those boats have nothing , no power, no acceleration, no handling, just a luxirious interior that makes the car seem more than it really is.

1995 strong after 20 years

I had my 95 maxima for 4 years. Bought from a dealer at incrredible 65K miles in prestine condition. This is my 5th datsun-nissan. Just change oil regularly at 5k. Need to replace consumables. Other than that, no major repair needed. Spends aboout $300 for repair/maint. On my previous 94 maxima, I drove about 300K+ odometer stopped at 230K. I drove 4 more years until the tranny gave up. Gas mileage is about 20 mpg on city+highway mix.

This is my first Nissan. I was able to obtain an 95 SE with a manual transmission, which took my several weeks to find (only about 8% of Maxima's sold have a manual). This car is fun to drive. Though it's not a true sports car, it makes a great family car!! With the manual this car is fun on two-lane roads. This car has more interior room than an Accord/Camry. Plus, if you get am Accord/Camry, you're going to spend a minimum of $1200 to have a sound anywhere close to what the Bose delivers. I considered a Camry and Accord when I was looking, but the Max fit the bill. It has more room and it a lot more fun to drive than a Accord and Camry (put together).

Car and Driver car of the year

A little expensive to replace numerous needed parts as the car ages, but dollar for dollar the 1995 Nissan Maxima is a very good option. Required premium gas is more expensive, but the engine really responds well. Rear wheel wells started to rust after 20 years, but remains somewhat minor. Just rolled over 183,000 miles, and am hoping to get a few more years, while repair costs remain low. Suspension would probably be improved with new struts and springs and ball joints, but car does fine with originals. Drivers seat is quite compressed, but passenger is almost like new. Trunk and back seat are decently roomy for transporting stuff. Great handling in the snow and wet. Rides like butter, on a smooth road when the weather is warm. 20 mpg in city (slow going) and close to 30 mpg on pure highway driving.

Had 1985 Maxima wagon previously. Also 1983, 1984, and 1986 Z's...all great cars and reliable. This time wanted a sedan that had some six cyclinder guts and good gas mileage. Ended up with a 95 GXE plain Jane that's a kick to drive without busting the bank....a near perfect sedan in an imperfect world...have had several Camrys, a Cressida, 2 740 Volvos, a 7 series BMW, and a 4 and 6 cyc Accord....this car is the most fun to drive of all

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CAR!! I have had this wonderful piece of work for nearly 3 years, and it has not let me down. The drive was very comfortable and smooth. Recently, I modified the suspension for improved handling, the ride of course is a little stiffer, but if one wants more stability and safety, comfort has to be sacrificed. Technically that is what the Maxima is: a sports sedan. Its meant to be driven like a sports car!! No one should have any disappointments with the car. Granted, some of the parts may need to be replaced, but thats expected for a 12 year old car. As long as one keeps up with the proper maintenance and takes good care of the maxima, it should last.

I bought this car about 1 1/2 yrs ago and have had a few issues. I had to replace the alternator a little after buying it which was sort of expected. I replaced some "knock sensor" which was about $450.00 and I now need to replace an EGR solenoid. I know that will be costly as well. I bought the car for $6500.00 and have put much money into it. It is all paid off and now I am having these knock sensor, EGR issues. Also, I need struts. They say the suspension is bad on the car (probably front and back) I would not trade this car for anything else though. I love it. I will need to replace the speakers and the stereo as the Bose CD player died and the speakers are beginning to crack.

I have purchased one for Hfl 32000, now EUR15000 in 1997. It had had one owner for a year after being in the showroom for a year. Bought it at 69,000 km (40k miles). I have owned it for 12 years, and the only thing to break down was the dashboard clocks. About after every 350,000 km (200,000 mi) So, I have driven it for 1,300,000 km (800,000 mi) at it still drives like a modern 1-year- old car. It is unbelievable. Because I wanted an automatic, I started out with a Primera for 5 months, then got this one when I was 27 year. Now I'm 40 years and still driving it! Amazing.

I just recently bought a Nissan Maxima SE, It's got a 187,000 km's on it and it looks brand new. it's only had one owner before me, who purchased it brand new in 1995. I still can't understand how someone could keep a car for 18 years, drive it everyday and still have it in impeccable condition. it literally doesn't have a scratch on the paint. I don't think anybody ever sat in the back or in the front passenger seat, even the driver side is 90% of it's original brand new condition. I don't think anything was ever placed in the trunk and the 18 year old alloy wheels look brand new. I have truly scored a Gem and I hope to keep it till it dies. Hats off to Nissan, they made a great car

The wife said it was time to go and so I bought a new SUV. But!!! The Maxima that I just traded in was the best car that I have ever owned. I put 187,000 miles on it and all I ever did other than put gas in and routine maintenance was a fan belt and an alternator (both repairs occurred after 100K miles). Great ride, great performance, great style. They don't come any better!!!!!

It is going on 16 yrs. and I have no worry's about long distance trips. Nissan is the BEST. I figured I spend about $600. yr in repairs. Can anybody beat that?

This car supposedly has tons of wonderful reputations. I got stuck with major expensive internal motor work needed. It does have a lot of power and has never left me stranded. These cars can blow the Hondas off the road with the power it has!! It has an engine miss, and the unusual thing about this problem is, it comes and goes! It's had a rough idle, stumbling and bucking. But these symptoms last occurred about 1 month ago and has been a smooth, beautiful ride ever since!! One mechanic told me since it was running on five cylinders, it's got bad valves. It also hisses and I know that's in need of an EGR valve. Yes, the check engine light and needs an anti-knock sensor! Not cheap!

Overall, I have been very happy with my Maxima. In recent times, however, it has been a disapointment. Once it reached 160000 miles, everything seemed programmed to break. In a two month period of time, I have had to replace the calipers, rotors, struts, strut mounts, coil springs, battery, tires, front and rear axles and catalytic converter. The only thing that remains unfixed is the engine and the transmission. Before this time, I was generally fine with replacing worn out struts every 15K miles, but now at 165K the brakes and struts are going again.

I'm a first time owner of a car and recieved my 95 maxima from my dad (who bought an acura 3.2tl, which is a great car)it's been an absolute joy to drive in, even at 100k plus miles it still performs great. The accelaeration is great and the 190hp 24 valve engine is a huge plus to this already excellent car. Everytime my friends get in there like "whoa, nice car" the leather and bose sound system impresses them.

Fabulous car for the money and age. I bought my car new- it's the black/green metallic with buff leather interior, moon roof, heated seats(nice) and ABS brakes & all other options which came with the car. It's been to Florida & back several times, Canada (opened her up to over 100mph on the Northway) and she cruised at 75-80 mph. You would never know how fast you're going until you look at the speedometer...I LOVE THIS CAR! Oxygen sensor after 110000 miles and brakes/tires only repairs made.NOT EVEN A TUNE UP. I changed filters and plugs..that's it! I don't want to give it up it's just a fab car ...scale 1 - 10 it's "10" !!!!

Was told to look at this car by a friend when we we looking to buy. Hadn't even thought of the Maxima. Test drove everything else out there under 25K and nothing compared. This car is a screaming value! Performance for the price is off the charts. Now has 130K, and going strong. Car is still tight as the day it was purchased. Only problems were bad Oxygen sensor @30K, locks need to be rekeyed & buttons on radio are worn down. No other mech problems! Drives like a sports car.

I bought this car brand new in 1995. It now has over 176K on it. I plan on running it to 300K. 1st mechanical repair was the brake pads needed to be replaced at 90K. How this car is overlooked so often and many choose to buy the more expensive and less performing Camry, I'll never understand. The Maxima is fun to drive and it can hold it's own on the road.

I have an SE 5-spd with leather. Great car! V6 w/manual is great, interior feels better than many current mid-size sedans. Awesome Bose stereo system. The issue: RUST. Car was in MA/RI its whole life, with many rust-related problems lately: cosmetic, engine issues (clamp rusted - radiator hose came off on road) to now major frame damage ($$$$). Engine and interior still great, though. If you live in Phoenix a 1995 Max would be a great, cheap way to get a fun and well-built car. But 95 is just too old here with snow/salt; mine is being sold.

This Maxima has brought me nothing but joy. Reliable with the minor exception of a left front CV boot which the dealer replaced for free when I bought it. Other than that nothing! I've changed the oil every 3000 miles and it performs almost as new! G-teched 0- 60=6.9 at 91000 miles! Great ride. Long wheelbase=great comfort, especially on long trips. Turns that belies its size. Problem- mid-corner bumps at high speed causes rear hop due to rear torsion beam suspension. Comfy in front/back for 5. Averaged 26mpg/50% city/2 years. Problem-"requires" 91 octane. I highly recommend it as a stress free, fun car... good luck!

I bought her brand-spanking new at start of 1995 and have loved the ride, style, and general performance. Haven't as much cared for any of the later models of Maxima until 2002 though. Now with 122,000 miles and need for more cargo and people space I'm looking to sell---dealer wanted to give me $3500 trade-in...which is a joke for my well-cared for machine.

Got this car back in 1997 for my wife with about 45K miles on it. It is my daily drive car now and has 135K miles and drives like the day we got it. The motor and transmission are smooth. I have done routine maintenance on it and it has been bullet proof. When I want, I drive it hard and it responds like the well tuned sports sedan that it is. It is so much fun to drive and has so much spirit for any car, much less a large 4-door family sedan. There are many new cars that won't come close to the performance and value I get out of this car even today. I'm sold for life! I will buy another Maxima!

We bought this car in 1998 and it has 46,000 miles on it. We drove it until April 2012 when it had 265,000 miles on it. Very little maintenance on this car. It would get 34 MPG on the Interstate and around 26 MPG local. We sold it to a friend and it is still running. Best car we have ever owned. Way to go Nissan. I would have bought another Maxima but they started putting 3.5 liter engines in them. Bad for gas.

We bought our '95 Nissan Maxima GLE nine years ago and can not believe what a great car it has been. The interior leather is pristine as is the plastic. There are a few wear and tear dings to the exterior, but nothing too bad. Mechanically, the car has been absolutely PERFECT. Other than routine maintenance and losing the antennae in a car wash, it has never had a single problem and still drives as well as it did when it was new. Great acceleration - the 3.0L engine in a 3000 lb frame gives it more than enough acceleration.

It is a pretty good car except the suspension is the only thing (rear end) I don't like. hard hydrolics are good, it's like M3. fuel efficient. timing chain. so you fon't have to worry about that. AND whenever you have a car, don't try to save money on cheap parts. I only buy original, in a longer term it pays off, cause original parts are very efficient and last a lot longer.

At 150,000 miles, and practically NO mechanical problems, this car is AMAZING! The engine runs like it's new. Of course, my penchant for religious maintenance might have something to do with that. It's comfortable, quiet, powerful and all-in-all pleasant to drive. Fuel economy is really good considering the vintage and engine size (3.0L V6) - 21 in town and as high as 28 on trips.

I purchased this 1995 Maxima SE last month. Coming from a 1988 ford tempo, the 3.0 V6 engine with it's impressive 190 horses was especially pleasing. I've gotten to 100 mph at 5600 RPMs in 3rd gear. There is no question, this is the best V6 in any family car model of 1995. The only downside I've had so far is the almost uncontainable urge to give the tremendously responsive V6 more than a tiny hint of pressure on the gas pedal and take off like a fighter jet in the middle of a busy street. Excellent features, attractive rear spoiler. Suspension is annoyingly stiff on bumpy straightaways, but it pleasingly effective on turns.

My '95 Maxima GXE has been a terrific buy from day 1. I almost purchased an Accord or Camry, and now am happy I spent more for the Maxima. It has been reliable and has had no out of the ordinary problems happen to it. Also, it is a stylish car that has a certain charm to it. People are impressed with the car even though it's almost 8 years old. Plus, it feels like a sports car, but handles itself like a sturdy vehicle.

I got my '95 GXE in 98. It had Bose, Sunroof and power seat. The minute I set eyes on this black doll, I had to have it..... Had to replace the suspension after six mos. but that was because I took on a broken road at 100 mph, so my bad. Since then, I have had nothing but driving joy in it, mile after mile. I have 106000 miles on it and it still runs like new. The only work I've ever had to do to it was oil, tires and brakes. It STILL looks better than a 2002 Camry and Accord! Now I am getting into an Audi A-6 but I am NOT selling the 'Max!! It stays with me b/c it's too good to part with!! Way to go Nissan.

The best part of my Maxima is that it's so fun to drive compared to every other four-door out there. Get the five speed version if you don't have to deal with too much traffic - you'll have tons of fun zipping around town. The other reason I bought this car is that it is extremely reliable, and from 35,000 to 85,000 it has needed no work - just routine maintenance. Too bad America can't seem to make fun, reliable vehicles affordable.

I've owned Jaguars, Camry's, Mustang GT's, and 240's (both Z & SX), and I have trouble thinking how the Maxima could be better designed. It delivers absolutely wonderful performance for a sedan, with a nearly perfect balance of handling and ride comfort. The cabin is a joy for the driver, while still being quite pleasant for passengers on long trips. I bought my '95 GLE in late '99 with 39K on it, have 76K on it now, and expect to drive it for at least another 50K, at which point I'll look for another used Maxima.

Original brakes lasted 125,000 miles. Replacement brakes lasted 110,000. Original exhaust system. Clutch replaced at factory expense at 35,000 miles. Replaced original starter and alternator. Average 26 - 27 mpg, high speed driving. Replaced struts at 270,000 miles. I expect to log wll over 300,000 miles. This car is fantastic!!! Terrific performance and economy. Best car on the road for the money.

Very reliable, I have put approximately 120,000 miles on it and the repair cost has been reasonable if not low. Durable, saved me in an accident, great car that you can count on if you (or the previous owner) has taken car of it.

I have '95 Maxima with over 160,000 miles on it and I never had to change anything, except for the oxigen sensor which is only about $100.

Excellent car, powerful but smooth with good gas mileage.Super strong transmission that handles evrything I throw at it. i have the Dark Blue matallic color that is great. My only major problem thru 109k miles was my Sunroof stopped working at about 50k miles and Nissan wanted $1500 to fix it but because I was a good customer at the dealer they kept asking for a good faith discount from Nissan and after 6 months they fixed it for 650.00 i highly recommend this car!

I put on a lot of highway miles in the first three years. Had to replace the starter twice, new shocks. Did have a problem with sensor brought on by freezing weather in Tahoe. As a consequence, the engine would cut out while accelerating. It cost $75 to replace the sensor. Only problems in 14 years. Replace oil every 3,000 miles from day one. Odometer now shows 300,175 miles. Still accelerates like day one. Very fast car. Hums at 85 mph. Best car I've ever owned. My third Maxima. The other two went to 180,000+. Traded one in and totaled the other in an accident.

Great interstate cruising car. After 199,000 miles, I'm still getting 24 mpg in mixed driving to and from work, and 29+ mpg on trips. Handling is predictable but not sporty. When I bought four new Michelins at 165,000 miles, the ride became so smooth I decided to keep the car until at least 200,000 miles. This car is worth buying good tires.

This car has been an absolute delight to drive. We have never had ANY mechanical problems with it. It has ample power, and the quality of the build is outstanding. With regular care, the exterior and interior are pristine with the exception of some small rock chips to the front end and windshield. We also have a '99 Passat GLX, which despite the excellent reviews, has been a lemon. The Maxima remains our favorite car, and we look forward to the next model change in 2004.

I bought this car brand new. Had four other American made cars before it. I travel quite a bit and have over 210, 000 miles and het to have an engine problem. Had to replace the starter at around 140K. But no real repairs. I keep the oil changed every 5-6K. Very low maintenance since the timing belt is chain driven. Wife had a Camry and it was more expensive to keep it up and didn't have as much power. Only wish it had a little more leg room because I am 6'3" but will DEFINITELY be buying another one. Keep wanting to trade it in but my mechanic says why bother. It's in perfect running condition.
