Why Can't Detroit Do This?

This is the best car I have ever owned. It is beautifully styled and a joy to drive. I have nearly 120,000 miles on this car, and other than a starter replacement, I have had no repairs beyond routine maintenance. The engine is the quietest, smoothest performer on the road. If Detroit could do this, the American auto industry would be on the way back.

Best car I've owned

I've owned this car 8 years, bought it with 55k. It's now at 226k and still running strong. The car has been driven for years in Maine to Indiana, Oregon and now in Florida. Routine maintenance is always done myself, including replacing the starter once, brake pads of course and battery a few times. Never stranded once even when the started did go out it's a manual and so easy to push start. Lots of long drives and I'm 6'5" and never any back or leg problems. Only shop work done was new shocks and struts at 160k and a new clutch at about 120k, the old was still original. I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the new clutch has maintained because I don't drive the car easy.

Dependable, but...

can't understand how the frame could deteriorate so badly that it is virtually undrivable now. For a car that is 17 years old, I expected more--even if we are in the north. Have had the vehicle for about 2.5 years, and it has been dependable for our daughter, driving to and from college (some 400 miles away), generally requiring just regular maintenance overall. But, the car is virtually junk now because of the frame--with only 126,500 miles on it. Very disappointed. Other issues: a check engine light comes on often (oxygen sensor?), and it has a lot of rust. But the frame is the main issue. If purchasing vehicle used, have a pre-purchase check--especially the frame.

I Love this car. My 1st car. Had it for 4 years

I love this car it was the perfect 1st car for me. It has plenty power and is fun to drive. Has plenty of room to haul friends and items around. The car has decent MPG especially with a 3.0 liter V6 under the hood. The car has been great me and has never left me stranded on the side of the road. I have had some more expensive repairs but well worth the money. I have replaced a battery, an alternator, water pump, front struts, radiator (did that my self), and a few sensors. The car has 172,xxx miles on it and still runs beautifully. I use it to commute to college 60 miles round trip it doesn't miss a beat. I do have issues with the clear coat coming off on the paint but it is a 21 year old car so what do you expect. No rust on the car beside some surface rust where the paint got chipped when someone backed into me and that impressive when you consider all the salt that are used ob the roads where I live. This car is great if you can find one in good shape and for the right price.

I bought this car from a private party in 1998. It has a lot of power, looks attractive, is comfortable to drive. Fuel economy is good. It was a good choice then and it continues to have a timeless appearance to it. Everyone is always surprised to learn that it is a 1995 vehicle.

Maxi has been a good car but I have also had the rough engine engine problem (its the fuel injectors clogging up, folks - use Techron every 3 - 6 months from the day you buy the car or you'll be replacing them). The fuel filter isn't as efficient as it could be. I've replaced the CV's, rear struts, the clutch, 2 injectors (so far - at least one more is going bad), but it doesn't use a drop of oil and it always starts. How much can you really complain about a $1,500 car?

Never Had a Repair Yet

I bought this car new almost nine years ago. For the first 5 1/2 years it was used as a summer car. Finally I drove it winters in New England and was amazed at how well it handled in snow/ice. Never had a mechanical problem. Bose radio was replaced under warranty. Best car ever owned. Leather interior looks brand new. Exterior is still stylish for today.

the consistant exhilaration

I bought it new before heading off to college. Special ordered the 5spd. Still blows the doors off so called "muscle cars" even with it's conserative apperance. I hate the cupholders; they interfere with shifting. It has gotten me through blizzards and hurricanes with complete confidence. Reliable is an understaement. My mileage is exceptionally low and the paint has been professionally restored after a snow shovel oppsy. I'm passing it on to my little brother who is starting at Villanova, as I move on to a CLK Cabriolet. If it wasn't going to my brother I wouldn't part with it. Beauty, power, handling, reliability, style and BALLS!

junk '95 Maxima

After only 2 months owning this car, I've never been so disappointed. With only 139,000 miles (not even broken in for a Maxima- or so I thought) and already internal motor work needed??!!!!! You've GOT to be kidding, Nissan!! It's running on 5 cylinders and a very uncomfortable ride. Has bad valves! Still does have power left, but at idle, it's rough. Stumbling and bucking upon slow acceleration and slow braking. I'm VERY leery about purchasing another. ANY year. I'm told the engines are smooth as silk from '95- 2001. With a used one, $3000. New/rebuilt-$5000. This problem is unacceptable! Now I'm starting to doubt the build quality of Nissans. Get with the program, Nissan!
