This is my second nissan altima, a wonderful car at an affordable price, fits all my friends and goes across town and back with the low fuel light on. Nothing like driving a stick...
It's O.K.
My car has 80k miles now, and if you want a reliable car this is the one. But if you are looking for great features, look elseware. The "leather" feels fake, and does not come with some amenities found in comparably priced vehicles. Exterior has bad paintjob and scratches easily. Interior has very weak plastic parts such as door handles and console area.
The car that would not die
I've put over 200,000 miles on my Altima and it's still runs great. My wife owns a 1998 Altima with 90,000 miles on it and it also solid. I've had to replace the driver's side visor in both several times because it is connected by cheap plastic. This is the great choice for anyone wanting to get out from under a gas guzzler and still get a dependable car.
So Far, Pleased
I went out searching for a new car and didn't particularly like the prices of the brand new selections out there. So, I decided to check out the reasonably priced used cars and researched the ones that had some reliability to them. The best value that I found for the going price was the Nissan Altima. I found it to have substantial reliability from reviews of past consumers along with decent fuel economy. So far, I have been pleased with my purchase.
Great car
I bought this car mainly because I needed reliable transportation, and I have not been disappointed. I bought it new in '99 and it now has 75,000 miles. I haven't yet had any problems with the car, other than a torn C/V boot. I've replaced the front and rear brakes once, and the tires twice. It's very peppy for a 4 cyl non-turbo engine and it has a very stable ride on any type of road. The only downsides that I've found so far is the iffy gas mileage and the excessive wind noise at highway speeds. Mostly I can barely get over 300 miles per tank with mixed city/highway driving, which is around 20 MPG. Other than that, it's been a great car.
