Not a sports car-but okay
I have found ownership of my Altima having offsetting pluses & minuses. Yes it's reliable and gas mileage around 25-28 mpg. But when parts wear out they are quite expensive. The seats are hard & uncomfortable, it has the turning radius of a truck, the stereo is no Bose.
Would buy one again
I'd take this car refurbished over a new one. 5-speed manual shifts okay (except balky in 1st), plenty of spunk. Okay w/ routine maintenance but last 5 years had to replace alternator (w/ core charge refund it wasn't much), belt tensioner, and radiator (less than $100, home installation). Have had suspension work done. Factory tires were weak link. Trunk space is good and very comfortable positioning for short driver (I'm 5'2"). Now at over 150,000 miles starting to show it's age but I still love this car.
Price vs. Quality
in terms of performance, Altima SE could be among the best of its class. I am driving a 5-speed manuel model. It doesn't have a good pick up, but it has a fast mid-speed. Once, I drove it at 190 Km/Hr and it seems very stable. Beside, it has a good stereo with excellent speakers. However, the quality is my concern. The leather seats look cheap. I would sugesst Nissan should do more wind turnel before releasing theirf future models...... the car is very noicy on a windy and running on highways. Also, matellic noice comes from the timing chain.
Great, GREAT automobile.
Have this vehicle 8 years, have never been back to dealer for anything. Oil changes, tire replacement, fan belt and brakes have been replaced. That's it. Fuel economy 25+ on the road and about 20 in town. Thinking of selling but afraid what I get to replace it won't be as dependable. Overall in my opinion the Altima is the best value dollar for dollar among any car on the market today or ever.
Reliable and Quick
When you look at the Altima you never guess the amount of PEP thats inside of this car (my only regrets were that I didn't get a manual), I mean the acceleration is superb and the big 2.4L engine is great. So far its really reliable and nice. ITs a very fun car and I love burning little civics and celicas with it.
