Used 2018 Mitsubishi Mirage Hatchback Consumer Reviews
Love my silver bullet
2nd **UPDATE))** I have owned my car for almost 3yrs now and I still love it. Great on gas and ample room inside. Hard plastic inside is starting to show some wear (but not much). ** UPDATE ** I have had my car for 10 months. I now get up to 58mpg on calm days and driving on the highway at 65mph. Everything else is the same. Bad camera and lack of nooks to place items. Other then that it is wonderful. I purchased my Mitsubishi Mirage in December 2017. I have already put 3600 miles on the car driving back-and-forth to the grandkids house. It has enough horsepower to keep up with other cars on the road and to pass when necessary. The interior of the car has ample space in the front seat and even seems larger then some full-size cars. I can park in tight parking spots and turn on a dime. I only have two issues with this car, one is there are no little pockets to put things in and the back up camera is not as clear as it should be. All in all I love this car and I think it’s fun to drive. If you’re looking for a small car with excellent gas mileage (41 highway 39 city) this car is for you.

Best Value for an Excellent Car
Bought a 2018 Mirage ES 5 speed in November of 2017 for $9988 plus tax/license. For that price, and after 99,500 miles, I consider it to have been one of my best small cars for these reasons: The 3 cylinder engine has been around for decades and has been reliable and powerful for its size. The car accelerates somewhat slowly( like a 250/350cc motorcycle) but keeps up with legal traffic and can hold 65mph on the highway if needed with two adults at 3400 rpm, which is about half throttle. (Engine red line is 6,500rpm.) The interior is comfortable and handling is nimble and secure at normal speeds and interior noise is low to moderate. The car has bluetooth/USB and touchscreen controls as well as manual controls, power locks/windows and numerous airbags, and even a backup camera, which seems a little unnecessary to me. Cold weather, carrying extra weight, stop and go driving and air conditioning in summer will lower the mileage by 2-3 mpg, but in year round driving in a hilly part of the nation I have averaged 47 - 48mpg if it's flat or I'm more careful. The manual transmission felt 'notchy' at first and takes about 3,000 miles to break in smoothly. That said, the gear ratios are perfectly spaced for the engine and allow the car to cruise most roads at under 3,000 rpm. I replaced the original Dunlop tires (which wore out at 25,000 miles) with cheap Federal tires ( $40 each, which also wore out after 24,000 miles) and just put on the 5th set of tires, so don't expect more than 25,000 miles-fortunately they are cheap. The car developed a muffler/heat shield rattle in the 1st and 6th years that had to be repaired-a minor fix. At 35,000 miles I replaced the front brakes and rotors because they had rusted excessively and would not pass state inspection. There is a lot of winter salt on the roads around here. They were replaced again at 78,000 miles and I just replaced the rear brake cylinders and front rotors again at 99,000 because I plan to keep the car for another few years so figured I'd be proactive. At 88,000 miles I changed the spark plugs and accessory belt as routine maintenance. The drivers side window motor failed at 99,000 miles and the sway arm bushings were replaced then as well. Those were the first 'non routine maintenance' parts to fail in 8 years. In fact the car still has the original battery.I have changed the synthetic oil every 6,000-7,000 miles and changed the air filters at 30,000 and 60,000 and 85,000 miles. The windshield wipers twice so far. At 51,000 miles I changed the manual transmission oil with Redline brand, which is equal or superior to OEM, then again at 99,000 miles. Everything else is original and still feels solid. In late 2023 the engine began burning a quart of oil every 3,000 miles,-Not a big deal since everything still runs normally, A Mirage is not the smoothest, fastest, quietest, fanciest, best handling car on the road but it is Not supposed to be. It just does everything a car should do to get from point A to B. At $16,000-18,000 for a new one these days, I would not buy one, rather I would add a few more thousand for something like a Corolla. But for a well maintained used Mirage with low mileage under $10,000, it would make a totally reliable daily driver. At 47 mpg and 100,000 miles I have already saved about $4,000 in gasoline costs over a 30 mpg car, so that goes a long way towards year to year upkeep. As a mechanic friend once said " It's a throwaway vehicle" but a good one until that day comes.

My cute little "MITSY"
The gas mileage is CRAZY GOOD!!! It handles so smooth on the road. If you drive fast as I do, it will surprise you. Don't underestimate it's ability to keep up with other large cars on the road. I purchased a base model thinking that it would not have the bells and whistles but once again I was wrong. But It just looks so good sitting in the parking lot. I am so happy..my birthday gift to myself.

slow roller skate
cute little car for a circus, it is larger than i thought inside (kinda)it has ABSOLUTLY NO POWER!!! looking at this for my daughter i would consider this dangerous car for her on the highway .acceleration is none. Cant get out of its own way and that due to a "3 cylinder " engine. Sacrificed safety for gas mileage..
