Can't justify getting rid of it.
Have had my 98 for about 8 yrs. Averaged 34 mpg, and have seen 45 mpg on straight highway driving. Put on a cold air intake and now it sounds more throaty. Very reliable. Never been in the shop. Lots of room to work on engine. (it's smaller than some motorcycles engines). I always talk about the mileage. Why get a hybrid, is what I Wonder.
It gets you were you want to go
Its not the flashies, fastest, or funest, but it gets you were you want to go very cheeply. I'm getting 40mpg with the standard. And its pretty confortable to drive. Great first time car.
Super reliable
My mirage has over 136,000 on it anx it always starts instantly no matter what season. It has never given me any issues. It turns on a dime get unbeeleivable mpgs. And i used it to tow my friends full sized oldsmobile and it did it fine. This car can do anything you want it to. I highly recomend it to anyone.

good car
When I got this car in 1/99 with only 11,000 miles on it, I was told by several people (including a mechanic) that it was going to be horrible purchase. Now over 80,000 miles later, it has really proven everyone wrong. It is still going strong after several long distance trips, a couple of years of alot of commuting, a little off road abuse, & my poor maintenance habits. Good 1st car, good for a young family.
Lean, mean and green!
Our Mirage LS was exceptionally reliable. Like our previous Colt, not much more than routine maintenance, with tires and brakes lasting 60K. After 120K the car did loose some zip, maybe form diminished compression. And while fuel economy also declined, we could still obtain 35 mpg plus on the long trips.
Mirage is a winner!
We've had this vehicle for about four years now, nearly 65,000 miles, without any problems whatsoever. Only work needed so far has been for routine maintenance. Good fuel economy at ~30mpg average city/hwy mix. Our mechanic even loves it, says it's very easy to work on.
Exceeded Expectations
I just bought a 1998 Mirage DE Sedan after I lost my first car in a wreck. What a great purchase it turned out to be! Wonderful appearance for an economy sedan. It's very refined and clean looking. Interior design is very eye pleasing and fit and finish is great. The performance is what surprises me about this car, it's very peppy for a 92 hp engine!
Very Reliable
The gas mileage is great. This makes it cheap to operate and it has never left me standing on the side of the road (knock on wood). I have done little more than upkeep type repairs. Changed the timing belt, engine seals, and routine oil changes.
Great Car! At an auction?? Cant be...
I purchased this great little car at an auction a couple of months ago for about $1000. Couldn't believe the next day I cleaned it up and drove it! Ran great! Everything on it working and in tip top shape. Only had $129,000 miles on it. The gas mileage is great and the body looks really good. I ordered a spoiler and some euro lights for it and I'm going to put rims and tint the windows!! Very satisfied with this car.
robs ride
The purpose of this vehicle was to buy something economically efficient for the purpose of driving back and forth to work from Ohio to Indiana. It really has been a great little car!
1998 Mirage DE
The Mirage is extremely reliable car. I have over 97,000 miles on my car and have not had a single major mechanical problem, except for the poor quality brakes that came from the factory. I've kept up with the scheduled maintenance of the car and engine, transmission, a/c still run perfectly. My only complaint was the very cheap radio that came with the car. (It stopped working when the car was only a year old).
Its great!
Dangerous at all speeds
The car is basically similar to all Mitsubishi's in that they copy everyone else (I worked for Mitsubishi Forklift). Design is weak. Emergency handling is extremely dangerous. I was in a near head on wreck. I got passed that OK but the subsequent poor handling caused a roll over. My daughter also sold hers recently because of other problems.
