I have had the privilege of owning this car for 10 years now. I bought it from my neighbor for $1000 in the spring of '04 as it was hit in the back end. I fixed it up for another 1K and for 2K I had a real rocket ship. Power is unbelievable! will plaster you to the back of the seat in first four gears! Stay out of the turbo and get 30 mpg on highway. Who could ask for more? I have restored it in last couple years and looking forward to many more carefree miles. If you get a chance to get one...JUST DO IT!!

I recently got my 90 eclipse base and it's 1.8 L non turbo FWD. and it's my first car so I'm kinda disappointed because it's not what I thought I was getting it's only got 94 horsepower but it's a great car for gas. I'm at about 174,000 miles and there's nothing wrong engine wise except that it's not fast at all. i mean this car has never even heard of the word torque. but it's a good car for saving gas.and if your only taking about 1 person with you. and my hatch arms don't hold it up to i gotta get some new ones but i hear that happens all the time.

Fun to drive-- for a single gal

Sporty car with a bad paint job.the factory paint was sun bleached and peeling in 1998! Lots of fun to drive-- smooth shifting and little bouncing/rattling. It got about 28mpg. Problems I had with it: wouldn't idle when the engine was cold, stalled as soon as you took your foot off the gas. It burned a lot of oil, but NEVER leaked. Temp.guage also failed. Other parts that I know fail on early 1990s mitsubishis are the hydraulic arms for the hatch-- mine never worked, neither did those on a 1993 Eclipse I drove. MUCH roomier than Honda Preludes, but there's NOT enough legroom in back for your standard adult.

I love my Eclipse/Talon. Very dependable, awesome power when needed and fantastic gas mileage when just putting to work and back. Great, classic, aggressive sports car lines, yet kind of a sleeper look. The AWD version is perfect in snowy climates and on the big circular freeway on ramps. Handles like a dream! Nice interior for two, although both of my kids have ridden in the back seat many times when they were younger. Hatchback gives plenty of room for groceries or reasonable luggage.

The car is now 17 years old, but still has the guts and get up to smoke mustangs etc. I've had to replace nothing other than a clutch and the hatchback door struts. The car handles like it's on rails. What a joy to own and drive ! And heck it gets great fuel mileage to boot. If you want a really nice car that got some jam under the hood and has the reliability of a locomotive buy one, if you can find one that is.

My Mitsubishi was great for the first three years, but after that it was all downhill. My car had two broken timming belts (the original one at 50,000 miles and the third one at 150,000 miles) and I needed to replace the spark plug wires three times. I hate the crappy automatic belts. It is kind of fun to drive, though is it not so great taking off when the ground is wet. The paint job is terrible. The very few '91 Eclipses that are still running look pretty bad. I tried to maintain my paint but lost the battle after 6 years (my Nissan truck which always slept outside still looks new). My Eclipse has been sitting broken in my garage for the past 4 years.

ONE OF THE MOST RELIABLE CAR TO HAVE

Why I gave all 10? Because it has worked great for a family of husband and wife. It has taken us from long to short distances. I bought this car from a private party for $700 and I have spended no more than $500 mechanical issues. Change oil every 3- 4k. miles and spark plugs, all filters twice a year. Always take it to a certified mechanic for better service I also use 89&92 fuel grade. Motor still running great I would buy another car like this, meavy an upgrade to 1995. This car gives me an average of 25 mpg although when I got it was in 17 mpg. With good service got better mpg. On the hwy 30+ mpg riding at 80 mph my average speed a car with turbo and its age I say I own a great vehicle...

GET ONE NOW. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST INVESTMENT THAT YOU COULD SPEND YOUR MONEY ON. THIS IS WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER A LITTLE FIRE CRACKER. IT ALREADY CRANKS OUT 195 HP FACTORY FOR A 2.0T. WITH MINOR ADDITIVES SUCH AS PLATINUM SPARK PLUGS AND A K&N AIR FILTER YOU WILL GET WELL OVER 200 HP.

I purchased this car in 1999 at 105k miles. It ran great and was very fast until around 110k. Around that time the engine began to leak a little bit. I started to experience rough idle around 115k and by time I hit 120k the engine was leaking excessively. The brakes on these cars tend to squeek a lot even if you replace them over and over again. The temperature sensor gauge went auto on the vehicle as well and made is difficult to start at sub 50 degree temperatures. The turbo, also, now around 130k miles does not function properly. I will be dumping this vehicle soon.

Got this car in 2001 with 120k miles. Just sold it with 122k. Reliable. Didn't spend any money on it until now when the ECU (CPU) went dead. Seemed a big deal according to the mechanic. It turns out I found out about the folks at www.ecutogo.com here in Houston. They fix and sell rebuilt ECUs that you can install yourself. Fairly easy problem to fix, that seems to haunt almost every Eclipse. Besides the ECU problem, only minor stuff like the lift arms on the hatch. Just go to Autozone and get a new pair, not a big deal either, you can even install yourself, but it's kinda tricky. Other than that, the car runs good, doesn't fail on you.

This car is a really fun fast car to drive. As soon as the turbo hits it gives you a feeling of immense speed. I love this car! Until a couple of months ago the turbo stopped working and now I burn a lot of oil when I drive. Need to get that fixed so I can have some more fun. Looking forward to havinging it fixed by the summer. Don't know what all is wrong with it.

My previous car was a 1990 crx - automatic, dx. That I didn't want to sell because was so dependable but I needed the money. A friend of mine sold me the car cheap- dirt cheap ($600). As you can imagine, the car was in need of some major "tlc" but it ran and was a 4 cylinder. The first time I drove it I fell in love. As beat up and horrible looking that it was, it got up and went like it had been hit in the rear end by a locomotive. I haven't regreted the purchace since. It's never left me anywhere stranded, always starts and is a blast to drive.

I owned my 1990 Eclipse Turbo from mid-1990 to the end of 1998. In that period I logged a bit over 46,000 miles in this little rocket, and enjoyed the heck out of it. I sold it only because I'd heard that that the turbo engines were developing problems after 50-60,000 miles, and my wife didn't like driving it once the roads started filling up with huge SUVs. In retrospect I wish I'd kept it a couple of years longer. The torque steer when you accelerate is noticeable, but manageable. Overall, a lot of car for the money!

This car was given to me by one of my father's friends a couple months ago. After replacing 1 power steering hose the leak I had was gone. It runs very well and has amazing pick up and handling. The gearbox positioning is something to get used to but after a while it's fine. It has no issues mechanical issues other than the power steering leak I had and has been running perfectly with no issues since 80000 miles. Its not in the best physical condition as there is a smallish dent from an accident in 96 and the paint is peeling but overall I just love this car. The one downside is the back seat. I'm 5'5" and I can't sit up straight without my head hitting the ceiling. I still have the original speakers which sound like crap after nearly 30 years but it works. Overall this is very reliable and fun to drive. Gets good mileage if you avoid using the turbo. ( I don't and you're a fool if you do.)

I love this car. I begged my parents for this car when I was 16 back in 1990. My parents surprised me with it and I’ve Loved it ever since. I added a giant stereo to it with a custom boom box and shorted out the electrical system a few years back but I’m dying to get it figured out so my kids can drive it when they turn 16. It’s the ultimate shifting car. It goes extremely fast and I did get a lot of speeding tickets in this car. My cars not even turbo. One was for going 123 on the lonely stretch of highway going from Vegas to Mexico. It’s fast.

I have had this car since 1997, and I have driven, and driven, and driven this car some more. Yeah, I've had a few minor problems, but nothing really major. When I bought this car, it had 99K miles on it. Now it has almost double (198K miles) and it's still running with the best of them. Five years ago when I first bought this car (age 19), I bought it for speed and looks. Now I'm 24, not so much worried about speed anymore, just looks. But, even with 98K more miles on it than when I started, it will still peel out and leave most of these 'suupped' cars in the dust. To put it simply, I LOVE THIS CAR!!!

I bought this gsx with 65k on it, it was in mint condition. It was my first really really fast car. The almost 200 horse power was unbelievable. I've smoked everyone that has steped up to the line. It came stock with a k&n filter. The turbo is great but i suggest that you buy a turbo timer for about 180 bucks. This will let it cool down after being driven hard. If you don't let it cool down the turbo bearings will get all screwed up and will affect the proformance.

I have had my GS-Turbo since 1996. She has ~170k miles on her, and is still running strong. Alot of people underestimate the power and acceleration of the turbo in GST. I will never forget the first time I really, "STEPPED ON IT", the front popped up and the rear dropped, and next thing I know I was @ 60mph in about 6 seconds (in 3rd) going up a hill, with blue lights flashing behind me trying to catch up (1st lesson learned - check the rear view mirror before take-off). I say that, to say this, if you want stock speed (not nescessarily torque) from a stock engine/turbo, you've got it here.

This car is great. Great looks, faster than suped up honda's, and a nice sounding turbo to show of to the competition. I can't believe i found this car in perfect condition (have had it for a year and still no problems except the engine mounts which were a breeze to fix) and loaded with sounds for only 2,500. This car has been problematic since I bought it. My eclipse looks gorgeous on the outside, yet its looks are indeed deceiving. The automatic transmission has failed numerous times. (ie: 6 rebuilds and 8 other transmission failures since its initial purchase)A head transmission specialist of a local mitsubishi dealership stated that the transmission design of the early nineties eclipses, talons, and lasers were designed in a manner that is insufficient at handling the torque produced by the motor. A trans specialist of AAMCO transmissions stated, "these transmissions are a time bom wiating to explode." This is a sleek, yet volatile car.

First things first, if your going to buy this car make sure you know how to take care of a turbo sports car. By that I mean take time to change the oil atleast every 3000 miles on the dot or less(it's important for the survival of the turbo/motor) and do regular mainenence or else you know, these things will break down. The weak link in this vehicle is the transmission. Just make sure you check before you buy: 1) if the tranny grinds/sounds from drive train 2)turbo shaft play(ask ur mechanic) 3)oil leaks. Again, don't buy this car unless you know how to maintain and/or fix a sports car.

I would highly reccomend this car to anyone looking for a fun, fast, reliable car. This would be a great car for any teen (like me). When I first drove this car I was in awe at its performance. I've had this car for only a month now and nothing has gone wrong. My only real complaint with this car is the lack of room for the rear passengers. It's almost like this car was supposed to be a two-seater. As long as you maintain this car, which happens to be kinda expensive, it'll last you as long as you want it to.

This car has always been a lot of fun to drive, but when it started having major problems it became more of a burden than anything. My odometer just passed 90,000 and now the turbo is out. It just locked up one day. I've replaced the clutch, the radiator, the slave cylinder, and the valve cover gasket. These repairs cost me between $300 and $900. Now with the turbo out, I've decided to get rid of it.

I bought the 1992 GS Eclipse in April, by May I had to replace the cluth, and ever since then the Eclipse has been in and out of the auto shop. I had to have a new starter put in, the alternator rebuilt, and am currently having a problem with the Cam Shaft Sensor. It will drive perfectly for a little while, then all of the sudden the engine RPM's will drop down to 0 and the car will die, and not restart. I also have a problem with the syncro's in my 3rd gear. It was fun to drive...really fast, but it is not worth the hassle of the constant promlems.
