Not very reliable, like all fords. Too much play in steering, bad mid-high range power. Many problems to be expected. My topaz at 86k has had new brakes, new muffler, new trans, new tires, new water pump. Low end torque is great with the large cylinders. Unfortunatly that means the motor mounts will break quicker. Mid-high range power is awful, which results in everyone passing you because you can't keep up. Power seatbelts break, power locks fail, power windows stop working. My mpg is awful. The suspension eventually sags. This car is cheap, but don't hang on to a topaz for too long, because it will let you down.

Love this car! Roadster Edition - Fun to drive & haul kids around. Still looks sharp! Had trouble with fuel pump - replaced 4 times in 5 years - fixed at Ford until last time - WE found loose wire in sending unit - Ford no longer makes that part according to local Ford dealership. Was very disappointed car is only 10 years old & Ford can't work on it.

Worst I've ever owned

I'm tired of throwing $ into this hunk of junk. It is these kinds of cars that lead to the decline of the U.S. auto industry. Water pump went out at 60 K. Tie rod replaced at 65 K as well as needing a new balancer which requires dropping the engine enough to replace it. Fan overloaded the computer which lead to the fan not working, therefore the radiator blew. Fan, computer & radiator $450. Power window regulator gears in front doors shot and needed replaced. Last but not least, the AC pump seal shot. I will not fix this as it is about a $900 repair; which is the blue book of the car. All of this before 76,000 miles. Fix or Repair Daily. You better believe it.

This is probably one of the worst cars on the road. It's been full of maintenance problems and leaks. Currently the entire floor is rusting out (there are some big holes) yet the body has no rust, go figure.
