2025 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Consumer Reviews

Beautiful looking but beware of quirks.....
The car drives great when working. Its looks great and still turn heads, but in 5 months of ownership, it has been in service 3 times. The engine light has gone on with no answer as to what the problem is. The mechanism for the door to open, broke and we were unable to open the door. Lots of quirks to the software and even key to open the doors is suspect. I hope Mercedes learns to be reliable.

Mechanically good; too much tech = LEMON
THe car drives like a dream. However, every function is controlled by a touch screen - which means there are NO tactile buttons/knobs. So you MUST constantly take your eyes off the road. All the computer controlled functions are very unreliable. The pop-out door handles are inconsistent & unreliable. The dashcam just doesn't work at all. Same with the air freshener - it doesn't work, either. There are touch sensitive buttons on the steering wheel - which is just plain STUPID. The center screen randomly changes screens The "gestures" function constantly turns lights on and off and opens the sunroof randomly - even if you're not moving. The trunk closed on my head 2x The power seat buttons don't move - they hurt to operate the seats. The blue tooth inconsistently connects. The rear seat belt tensioners click and rattle (both of them). The voice assistant is terrible and usually can't understand basic commands. The fingerprint recognition button doesn't recognize programmed fingerprints The Distronic (semi-autopilot) will phantom brake for no reason. This is just a terribly executed car and NOT worth the $150k. Mercedes Benz really [non-permissible content removed] the bed with this one. Some of these defects/problems are mere annoyances, others are downright dangerous. I'm gettiung ready to sue MB under CA lemon law - and they will lose. the car is only 2 yrs old, but has a mile long service history because of all the defects. An employee at the service dept told me the car is notorious for being problematic - "It's the worst car Mercedes has made in years, they're all coming back to us with a multitude of problems," this person told me. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR - save yourself the hassle, get something else.

Mercedes S580 Executive Model
Beautiful car but all the technology and service was lacking terribly. After driving for 6 months we decided to move on, it was just that bad. Then to find out what was sticker priced at $165k and a complete disappointment was worth literally half the money with less than 3500 miles. Mercedes was an absolutely awful experience. Just don’t do it, ever. I was this close to the Maybach but the dealer had a $50k markup, should have walked away then!

AMAZING NEW DESIGN AND TECH UPGRADE
The new S580 is without a doubt one the finest sedans in the world. The technology is awesome and the handling is beyond anything I ever imagined. I've had more compliments on this car than any other car I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of cars.

My 4th S-Class
I owned the the W221, the W222, bought my first W223 on 2021, and on 2023 could not resist buying my second W223. This time I purchased it with the rear stirring and with the E-control. My opinion: 1. Driving is fabulous. Will take turns as tight as the 221-short-base did. 2. Stirring amazing 3. Controls: missing the 222. Everything 90% is touch screen which is not convenient. The controls on the stirring wheel on not reliable. You need to learn how to touch them so they do the function you wanted (hard to explain; you need to try to understand) 4. Space for storages - plenty. Despite the confusing and distracting controls - I love her, and she gets 5 stars!

Magnificent!
It’s clear to see why this car is at the top of its class time and time again. This version of the S class is upgraded in every way possible from style to ride to comfort to entertainment. For music lovers, the upgraded Burmeister 4D system has 31 speakers strategically placed to make you feel like you’re sitting in a mobile concert hall.

S500 2021
Although I’ve never written a car review before, I feel it’s important to share my experience with this vehicle. Since I purchased it, I’ve encountered a series of problems, starting with a fuel pump failure that stranded me on the highway. The electrical panel malfunctioned three times, and I faced alignment issues—one was a recall, while the other was due to improper alignment. That was an ordeal itself. I was left waiting over two hours on two occasions for Mercedes to tow the car to the dealership. So much for Elite car services. Despite bringing the car in multiple times to request an inspection of the brake pads, mine you the car had less than 15,000 miles on it.I was incorrectly told that they didn’t need replacement. Eventually, I consulted an independent mechanic, who confirmed they needed to be replaced and that I had been driving on worn rotors. Overall, in just a year and a half, the car has been in for repairs seven times for a number of reasons. I have had to rely on loaner vehicles five times, each for over a week, only to find the repairs were still incomplete. In my 30 years of driving, I’ve never faced such a nightmare with a car. It’s such a shame because the car is beautiful!! Regrettably, I had no choice but to trade it in for a different vehicle, and it’s not a Mercedes!

S500 with multiple issues in the first two years
2022 S500 with multiple visits to the dealer for issues in the first two years. Battery failure due to some issue inside the car, technology failure, camera not working, all the systems were shutting down for many months before they could figure out what it was. They replaced the front camera and the battery and it seems to be working OK for now. The car is amazing to drive and love driving it.

Chauffeur Review, Massive Disappointment
I work as an Executive Chauffeur. When we got this car in our fleet I was excited. Quickly I began to loath driving this car. This car is overloaded with tech. It is constantly sending messages to the dash. There is too much information on the dash and screen. There are too many options. The whole car seems like it was designed by software engineers. Luxury and discerning car owners want simplicity, not complication. Also, there are so many safety features that it becomes overbearing. There are constant beeps and alarms when parking and backing up. The gear shifter is terrible. It is too small and not intuitive. The thumb scrollers on the steering wheel are terrible. The cruise control is terrible. This is not the S Class of old where driving down the road was a relaxing experience where you feel like you are driving a luxury tank in safety and calm. We have a Rolls Royce Ghost in our fleet and it is a reminder of how much more enjoyable, relaxing and simple it is to have simple dials and traditional interior components. If you want an S Class, find a when maintained and clean used one before the MB software engineers took over interior car design. In short, I can't stand driving this car.

S580
I have owned this vehicle for 4 months. I looked at cars for about 6 mos before I bought it, for the last 10 years my daily driver has been an 11 MB E-Class from which has given me great service, almost 300K miles on it. The S-Class is very nice, its Black and gets attention everywhere it goes and I mean everywhere. It has lots of tech, the ambient lights, seats are comfortable. The car is very quick but you have to make it go very quick, it prefers to be a cruiser. I've taken it on a couple road trips and you arrive at your destination feeling fresh, little or no fatigue. I normally drive the car in the comfort mode but occasionally find myself switching to sport mode, sometimes the floaty feel aint what i'm feelin. There are so many great things to say about the car but here are couple small problems with it, 1st as mentioned earlier, everthing is done via the tablets, for instance, you can adjust seat comfort a million ways but you do it on the tablet, kinda completed, sometimes when you change a setting it changes a setting you'd already set, for instance, I took the car out of town last week and before I left I had the car set to fold the mirrors when I exit the vehicle, somehow it stopped working so last night I changed it back, but when I got out the car the illuminated MB star that normally shines on the ground when I open the door wasn't there, so I had to go back to setting and turned the locator off then back on and I changed setting to fold mirror to off then back on and it started working again, quirky stuff. I've also experienced when I crank the car using the app on my phone, sometimes when I get to the car there is a strong gasoline smell in the car, it never happens when I use the push to start. I also own a CLS 550, a Porsche Boxter, an E Class and 330 BMW Vert, wife drives a 19 X5, now the X5 is sweet also, very comfy and fast. While the S is fast but you have to make it go fast with the X5 you have to make it slow down as it pulls hard.

Best Luxury Vehicle on the road.
I purchased my S 500 two years ago and I could not be happier. The car is a dream to drive! I have only driven 15,000 miles in those two years, but I have had ZERO problems with this car. Maintenance has been very easy, and my Mercedes dealer is fantastic. Yes, it was expensive, but I plan on keeping it for twenty years. Do yourself a favor and plunge on an S class vehicle and be happy every time you drive it like I get to experience.
