Used 1999 Mazda MX-5 Miata Consumer Reviews
No Problems Ever
I purchased my 99 Miata used with about 21,000 miles 4.5 years ago. I have had no mechanical problems and am just now replacing the original soft top. It is a blast to drive even though it has just 4 cylinders. It is a best buy in my book! (Just make sure your golf bag fits in the trunk first).
Return to Fun
Among others, I have owned and driven a Sprite, Healy 3000, MGCGT (MGB with Healy engine), '79 Supra, 88 Supra, (which cornered like it was glued to the ground). None surpassed the fun of the Mazda. Only my Healy was as enjoyable. This car is a true sports car in every sense. I drive it daily, and even at 59 I still enjoy the thrill. Top up or down, the drive is a joy. Top down in the evenings is my favorite here in Austin TX. If you gotta drive, might as well enjoy it.

1999 Red Miata
This is the best built, tightest car I have owned. I am very glad I went with the Gen II ('99 and later) Miata for the more horsepower and better lines/style. It has been extremely reliable just like the reviews said. It is fun to drive. Used to own a Gen II RX7. This car may not be as fast, but is better built, handles better, and drives like a classic sports car.
Amazing handling
My wife's is red. Real eye turner with chrome wheels. Car could be more powerful as really lacks torque but has amazing corning capabilities especially with the 16 inch Yokohama Parada Spec-2's I put on last year. The 99' needed a functional drink holder. Pops in and out of traffic with ease and stops on a dime. Braking requires that you are acutely aware of what is behind you at all times. If this thing were hit from behind by a SUV - good luck. We have had no problems with the car thus far.
Fun, fun fun!
I drive a lot of sports cars in my job, and although the Miata is not all that fast, it pegs the needle on the fun gauge. This is my second one. Its light weight and excellent suspension design make it a great ride in the twisties. Add the availability of hundreds of inexpensive aftermarket upgrades, and you can tailor your Miata for everything from daily driver to track-day monster. I use mine as a weekend fun car, not a daily driver. The other big plus is the reliability and easy maintenance of a Miata. They are so simple. Simplicity means there isn't much to go wrong, and when something does go wrong, you can often fix it yourself rather easily.
