I Love My Car!

I bought this car from my dad who was the first & only prior owner so it was well taken care of. I love my car. It has never failed me, & I bought it at 79K miles, now it has 107K miles, after only 15 months of my owning it. It drives as good as it did the day I bought it. I have taken it on no less than FOUR cross-country road trips in that time, about to be five next week, and it hasn't missed a beat. It is the most well-built reliable car, drives like a dream, esp on the highway, economical, and looks great. LOVE it. Highly recommend it!

Good Car

I bought a 2nd hand millenia. The car is excellent when it comes to all the luxury features. The interior is great. The car is 6 yrs old but still most of the things seem to be working perfectly fine. The pick-up is bit of a problem at low speeds.. may coz of the heavy weight. The car drives really smooth and once above 50mph, the pickup improves a lot. Its very easy to get a speeding ticket if you are not watching the speedometer!!!

Worst Car Ever

John, 04/25/2009
1998 Mazda Millenia S 4dr Sedan

Contrary to the other positive reviews, this is by far the worst car I have ever owned. I have never put so much money into a car just to keep it running. Literally, every 3 months since I have owned this car, something goes wrong. I have put several thousand dollars into this car just in repairs, and that is in the three years I have owned it. I hate this car, and I will never ever purchase a Mazda again. If you decide to invest in a Mazda Millenia, I wish you the best of luck, because luck is something I did not have with this car.

Great handling automobile, good ride and very responsive. Seats are a little small. Very reliable, road noise level could be improved. Mileage could be improved for the size engine 2.5 Liter. Only maintenance has been oil & filter change. New battery.

A fine car but ...

My 5 year old Millenia still drives like a luxury car. I bought it for its reliability and gorgeous exterior. The leather grade is rather cheap. The interior is tight and front seats are not comfortable for tall adults. The workmanship and fitting are flimsy. My moon roof stops working (not fuse- related). If you live in the DC/Virginia area, I would not recommend buying your car from Brown's Mazda. They drop you like a ball once your car leaves their lot. The acceleration on this car sucks. I would get the S version if you love the shape and the supple ride. My next car would likely be a Lexus, Volvo, Mercedes, or a BMW - definitely not sold by Brown's car dealers.

I purchased my Mazda as a second owner. It had 30,000 miles on it. It was a lease turn in. I didn't have any problems at all with my car until the timing belt went out. That was after about 125,000 miles, got that replaced and have been going ever since! That is the only major issue I ever had. I now have 209,000 miles on it and it's still going strong.

I purchased this car used over a year ago and I have to admit It has surpassed all my expectations. After 20,000 miles in one year my millenia still feels like the day I drove it off the used car lot. As a matter of fact I think this car is a great deal on the used car market. The acceleration and handling are probably its two greatest assets, Driving this car on long highway drives up to Jersey is great because it has the performance of a sports coupe but also the functionality of a sedan. If I were on the hunt for a great deal on an awesome driving, and reliable car I would definitly keep this car on my test drive list. D from DC

This has been a great and reliable car. I've never had to take it to the shop, besides the normal maintenance. I drive the car hard, and it begs for more. You can't be cheap and put the 87 octane gas in the car. Put the 93 octane in, and the car rocks.

The Mazda Millenia S is the poor man's 5 Series BMW. I bought mine used with 34k on it--someone else ate the depreciation..I got great value. The handling is agile, a real driver's car, yet ride quality is high. The engine is responsive, smooth, quick. Mechanically solid, and loaded with features, including traction control, ABS. The engineers and builders paid attention to detail. I find the car comfortable, even on long trips; maintenance has been minimal.

This car was a gift from a family member, and we just love it! My husband loves to drive it on the curvy smokey mountain roads, this baby sticks like glue! and the style of the car in and out is really nice too, allot of interior color, even wood grain. we have took it in the mountains allot, on uphill drives it just want's to go, period. IT is the same way on the highway. we have had to change a few parts, but hey, for 100,000mi, what can you expect?

The only problem was the engine light and an oil leak which was fixed by the dealer. A perfect fit for a short woman. I think the interior (leather seats and carpet) leaves a lot to be desired. The outside of the vehicle is holding up much better than the interior. The cup holders in the front got stuck and are unable to be fixed and there are none in the back. Also the mileage could be improved upon. Otherwise the car has given me good service and I'm not on 111,000 miles and it is still quite peppy and runs good. I think I'll keep it, hopefully, for at least another 100,000 miles!!

This car is one of the best Sports Sedan I'd ever driven. It's fast and nimble with good ride quality. Before I purchast this car, I'd also tested drive Maxima & Diamente. Comparing to Maxima, both car promise you luxury and performance, however Millenia S has more features that Maxima didn't have. Forget about Diamente, it just didn't even come close. I have 67000 miles on my Millenia S, the only parts I'd pay for is the O2 sensor. If you want a realiable luxury sports sedan but don't want to pay alot, This is a good choice (S model only).

I bought my 1998 Mazda Millenia because I had a 1995 Mazda coupe that I just loved until it was stolen and I never saw it again. Both Mazdas are peppy, well designed, fuel efficient and handle great. My Millenia is a four door because I have more passengers now. The rearseating area is comfortable with lots of leg room. The leather interior, sunroof and great sound system make this car a mini- luxury car that almost equals the BMW and Mercedes I was pricing before buying the Mazda. The German cars did have more torch but that's about the only difference aside from the hefty price tag.

I leased this car new in 1998, I fell in love immediately with its power, style, and great handling. It made me feel safe, but it was fun to drive, too. When the lease ended I couldn't give it up, even for a newer one. Now, five years later, I have to get a larger vehicle and must turn it in. I'm heartbroken. It has needed some repair, but I only have NYC potholes to blame for that. This is a wonderful, underappreciated car, which is good because not too many people have them.

A best buy used car

I bought this car with 22000 miles in 2000 for half the new price of a new one. I have had no repairs except for the brakes which I replaced at about 70,000 miles. The usual highway mpg is 30 or better. The only complaint comes from my wife who thinks the passenger seat is not as comfortable as the driver seat. The resale value does not reflect the true value of this car, it is a bargain.

This is the first Mazda I've purchased and I am the second owner of this vehicle. I will definitely give Mazda serious consideration when I am in the market to purchase another vehicle. The service center in my area (Ferman Mazda in Tampa, Florida) have been excellent.

I bought this car with 17,000 miles on it for a song in 2001. It has been a great car and still runs like a new car despite being ten years old. I have maintained it regularly, but haven't had any major repairs. I'll give it to my son only when I can replace it with a hybrid that has as many great features.

Fantastic Luxury Cruiser

I owned my 98 Millenia from 2000 to 2004. Very classy inside, everything felt like luxury. It was the smoothest highway cruiser I had ever driven, and remains so to this day. Very comfortable at speed, and I'm not a slow driver. The only reason I sold it was I just had to get back in a car with a manual transmission. The only criticism I could offer is that the pockets on the back of the front seats are made of netting instead of some solid material, and if the pockets are used the netting tends to stretch and then sag. Pretty small criticism. Well I guess I could complain they didn't offer a manual transmission, haha.

I have had my Mazda for 9 years. I replaced the transmission at 100,000. I have had a number of other parts replaced. The engine has been pretty good. But the parts are very high and mostly have to be ordered. The resale value is is kinda low. The car really looks good but in terms of durability, it leaves a lot to be desired. Mazda really needs to step it up a bit.

Depreciation debacle

My Millenia was purchased for a seriously reduced price below the sticker. I thought I had the deal of the century(millenium??) Once I got over the terrific sound system and sexy styling, I was left with a cramped cabin with few features like cup holders (only 1 provided),an ashtray, a glove box with more than a few inches of space. The transmission always felt like it was missing gears and spinning in low speed acceleration. Reliability was not what Consumer Reports suggested I could expect.

P1195 EGR BOOST SENSOR, this will kill your pickup and gas mileage. engine makes noise after 100,000 to solve put 2 quarts of karosene and idle it for 5 minutes, change oil and filter, use SAE30 the noise is gone for 20000 miles. Discontinued because of bad rep. after FORD bought MAZDA, their vehicles went down the toilet. I remember my 1984 626 ran over 300,000 miles, you could never find that now !!!!! Mazda dealers overcharge, dont buy parts there. Rotate tires after every oil change. I rated the car so high because I sold it for profit !!!! :-)

Is the turbo reliable

Ken, 09/09/2008

Bought this car used and now have 85,000 miles. Replaced ball joints at 45k, catalytic converter at 59k which fortunately was still covered by Mazda. My only concern is how reliable the S model is vs. the non- turbo model. So far so good. Considering the car is ten years old, it's been a great used car and the rare times I floor the gas pedal, it's amazing to feel the 210 hp kick in for quick passing. Plan on keeping it for another 85,000, just hope the turbo doesn't surprise me by breaking down. Digital L.E.D display showing A/C mode, and outside temperature no longer works and it's expensive to fix.

Great car!

I have enjoyed my car Millenia tremendously! The check engine light constantly comes on, which I think that's how these companies are fixing these cars these days, so that you will take them in regularly for the least little thing! My car runs like a "brand new car", mainly due to my repairing things as they break down vs. waiting. I presently get about 270- 300 miles per tank of gas, which I guess is not too bad for a 10-year old car. I have had the timing belt changed, valve cover gasket repaired, O2 Sensor and Crank Shaft replaced this year! But for a 10-year old car you should expect to make some repairs. I would recommend this car to anyone that's looking to purchase a reliable car

Great Value at Today's Prices

If you bought a Millenia several years ago, you can't help but be disappointed by the resale value. The price of the car has been lowered over the years and you can now get one for nearly the price as a loaded Camry or Accord. As far as quality of ride, features, and appearance there is no comparison. The car shines on the highway, cruising quietly and effortlessly at 80mph. If the car had another 50hp and a little more front leg room it would be near perfect. I have 50,000 miles on my Millenia with few problems. A noise in the rear suspension cost $250 to repair and the automatic tilt occasionally acts funny, but overall it has been trouble free.

Since purchasing this car (new) back in 1998, I've had one problem after another including the following repairs/replacements: - fuel sending unit (under warranty) - oxygen sensor (under warranty) - powertrain control module (PCM) (under warranty) - EGR valve ($900 out of pocket) - front upper control arm and rear inner tie rod ($600 out of pocket) The fact that this car requires premium gas is ridiculous, especially considering it doesn't provide top tier performance. I will never purchase another Mazda.

Excellent handling without sacrificing the ride. Quiet, solid, well-made feel. All controls are within easy reach, and the crisp blue-white instrument illumination is a very nice relief from other less desireable looks. Very nice lines, especially at night. Parts (such as headlights) very easy to replace.

First impressions were nice. Looks great, all the gadgets, saftey, etc. After a while the lack of driver space got annoying, I am 6 '1, this car does not fit well for tall folks. The lack of power also is frustrating, Both of my motors in the mirrors are broken, and I have replaced the o2 sensor. AT 89k the transmission has gone to all hell. $1750 Later it is up and running with all its previous annoyances. staying away from the mazdas all together, nice design but cheap parts - cheap parts may appear as a good value up front - but over the long haul i have gotten burnt.

The truth

Kevin, 09/30/2008
1998 Mazda Millenia S 4dr Sedan
0 of 3 people found this review helpful

Here is the truth about this car: 1. Consumes large amounts of fuel, if you're thinking of driving this car on a daily basis then make sure you have loads of money for the fuel. 2. The car is extremely heavy, there is no pick up at all. Due to the vehicle's weight this has resulted in the miller cycle engine having to work harder to supply energy and that results in greater gas consumption. 3. Motor oil consumption is just ridiculous. The car drains large amounts of motor oil and I find myself replacing it on a weekly basis, which is just ridiculous. Overall I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone, its expensive to maintain and the resale value is nothing but laughable.
