This is a really great car. It has a quick shifting stick shift. TURBO!!! It has a turbocharged engine with 170 horsepower and gets about 27 miles per gallon! Can you beat that? Really fun car to drive.

The performance is very quick for a front wheel drive. Handling is the best I have ever driven. Gas mileage is very good even when you "Drive Fun". This is not an off the shelf race car like the Dodge SXT-4, but it is fun on a long drive or short trips. Stereo has great sound. Fun! Fun! Fun! and occasional head turns.

Its a car with a nice looking paint job good looking wheels an a nice stereo other than that the car sucks. , if the motor was tuned for the turbo would be nice they used plastic for the turbo intake with ungod bends in it along with acordion type pipe in spots for a real nice air flow ( RIGHT ) The lower IC pipe gets big then small then big again No cold air in take . Hmmm lets see... OH no timer for the turbo for when you forget not to sit in ur car for about and no less than 10 sec. to 30 or more little 10"hx4"tx6"w intercooler and no Blow of valve for the back flow of air when you shift gears that can distroy your turbo

Fell in love the moment after test drive. This car is fast and fun to drive, makes you want to take the long way home> Limited edition vehicle, only seen one in town since ownership. The handling is impeccable, just turn the steering wheel in the direction you want to go and the limited slip takes exactly were you want to go. Can't beat the gas mileage, even though premium fuel is the cost of admission. Plenty of room for 4 people and a fun evening on the town. Large trunk and plenty bins to store private items. As Mazda says zoom, zoom, zoom!

I purchased mine in April or May2003, I love it. Handeling is great, the paint looks like a show paint, (have had multiple comments on it) my only thing is the power/turbo fluctuates. Maybe it's the intercooler could be a little better/bigger. If it's cool outside, that thing will pull and pull, but give it time to warm up...In this Texas heat, 95-102 and humidity out tha ying yang, it makes it tough on it. But if you get aggressive on it, it will wake up for you, just not quite as much pull as on a cool day. The brakes and suspension are excellent . VERY SAFE & RESPONSIVE CAR.

Interior components line-up flawlessly into each other. It has usable power anywhere over 1500 RPM and at 3K-3K5 has ample passing power without spinning the turbo extensively. Playing in the off-ramps and curvy roads in SoCal really gets my audrenaline pumping. The car will do whatever you want and feels like the faster you go into a corner, the more accelloration you have to feed it to track (grab) the road. I think to get to the next level of overall balance of power, handling and refinement one would have to get into the $32K price range.

I have had my cars in the past, even a civic. I can say this is the most fun I have ever had driving. The orange color is so tight I love it. It is fast, and sure it might not be as fast as a WRX STi or a EVO but look at what it comes with in stock trim, Companies like, Sparco, Racing Beat, Tokico, Garrett, Kenwood, Racing Hart, CAN ANY OTHER CAR SAY THE SAME THING????. By the way Injen came out with a cold air intake and this is a MUST, it increases the power by 11 horses, and makes the turbo LOUDER and the Blow off it alot louder as well. Too many Civics, Accords, Acura's. They see me and say "DAMN THAT WAS A MAZDA PROTEGE?"

This car is amazing, since buying it out of the show room on New Years Eve I have had nothing but fun out of the car. All my friends have Hondas but I wanted something that stands out. Very rare car. Awesome handling, great looks and good sound. With aftermarket parts the car just explodes like it is a beast waiting to be unleashed.

this car has some seriouse handling. with 170hp, it is not too fast nor too slow and is a very fun car to drive in the city. but, if you start punching on the gas alot, expect to visit the gas station a lot. overall, this is a quality car and is a great car for $21,000 which is worth it. test drive one!

I love my Speed. My only problem with it has been the need for a set of winter wheels. If you don't mind switching out the wheels with the change of the seasons and you're looking for a quick little toy, this is it. The extras on the interior and all the collaboration among Racing Hart, Kenwood, Mazda etc. make this factory car feel like a custom one. You can even get a car seat set up in the back seat! Hard not to love this vehicle.

This car makes you smile when you drive it! It may be a sedan but don't let that fool you. Performance was the most important thing to me; I like to drive and I like to drive fast. The turbo has a nice kick to it and even though it's a 4 cylinder, you'd never know it! The transmission and steering are tight. Everyone wants to drive my car!

What a great car. This is the car you should own when you're 21, but didn't have the money. People still stare at the rims. Much zip with the turbo, great handling. Almost 30 months and I'm not sick of it yet! Issues with the back bushings, we're about to head in for the 3rd replacement, 63,000 miles.

I like all Mazdaspeed Protege, SI, Mini Cooper S, SRT-4, WRX, Evo VII, SE-R, SVT, GTi,..... As RX-7 owner, I choose to own a Mazda again. I like the orange color, the 17 inch alloy rims and the interior is one of the niciest !!! The base price of $20,000+ was really light on my wallet. As a successful computer engineer,I still enjoy driving very much, I decided to go with something new to me - a sport little soup-up sedan. I have only put on 150+ miles so far and have not tested the ability of the car yet. But, man, if you have $20,000 + to spare, either get the WRX for 4 season fun or this little turbo-charged Progete for its look and performance.

Wow.I love this car so much.Previous to this, I owned a moded Protege5, and thought it was the cats meow. But this car, is just one of those vehicles, where you get in, and youre like"Wow, they took an awesome design, and made it so much better, and it's so comfortable" then you drive it, and you wonder if there is anything that can take the stains out of your shorts, cause you crapped yourself when you took that corner going 90km/h.It has somer very nice pep, and some of the best handling available on the market. The Bridgestone Potenza tires really help keep the vehicle controlled with the speeds it's caple of. The whole time, listening to a great stereo.

Rear sway bar bushings wearout and get very loud. The windshield is so thin that pebbles will chip it and rocks will crack it.

I just bought this car last night and was going from a 96 Volvo 850 Turbo. The Protege is not as quick by any means in a straight line (alothough I haven't really run the engine yet) but I can tell you for sure that the handling in this car is great. Very precise and fun. I did't go in to get the orange but I liked it when I saw it in person. The interior is great too. It isn't as luxurious as a Volvo, but neverhteless, a super design.

i've put about 9000 miles on this car, and i luv it still. there are other cars in this segment that make more power, but this car does everything well. sharp looks, good gas milage, and a great factory stereo. the car does run a little rich, but that has been solved with a PCM re-flash from mazda. this is the best handling car i have ever owned. the brakes are superb, and the engine is very well done.

In my 26 years of life, I have owned 6 new cars (4 Hondas, a Mazda MP3, and now Mazdaspeed). None of them compare to the Mazdaspeed! The Mazdaspeed is the best bang for the buck out there. I no longer have to buy a Honda and modify it to get what I want. The extra HP is great, but with the handling capabilities of the car, it could still use even more. The MP3 player is ideal for the long trips, and the bass makes sure everyone stays awake! To bad they only made 250 in Canada, as this car puts a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel. It was worth the 8 months I waited from time of purchase to delivery!

My dad just recently bought me a MSP, it is by far the best car I have driven for handling and acceleration for it's price range. I can truly say that it walks all over the Subaru Wrx RS, Focus Svt, Civic Si, Acura Rsx, Saturn Ion and the Sentra Type R. It does a wonderful job when you pull up next to one of these cars and walk circles around them, although I have to admit the wrx has some giddy up, but look at it this way, it has AWD and the MSP doesn't. It also is cheaper and comes with the turbo. I just enjoy shifting the gears at high rpm to hear my turbo whistle, an addition of a BOV would sound great.

I definitely do not have any trouble passing on the hi-way. I like the fact that I am the only one in town that has one of these cars..it sure is an eye catcher. It is amazing how much power you can get out of a 4 cyl engine.

This car is a thrill to drive. It may not be the quickest off the line or the best in a drag race, but it sure can move. Once this vehicle gets into 2nd it takes off. Great passing power and on top of all amazing handling. Handling and braking are what makes this car as great as it is. Interior design is nice and my exterior just shines with the metallic paint. I can't wait to put the stock tires and rims back on. I also haven't had any problems driving in the winter, you need winter tires and different rims to keep the stock 17s nice! Overall a good buy and a great value. Can't beat the price!

I have had minimal problems with this car. The factory head-unit is a piece of junk and prone to problems...just replace it. I love the looks I get, it is unusual enough to turn heads without looking all tweaked out. It's a blast to drive, very responsive off the line and in turns. Comfort suffers very slightly, it is performance oriented after all. I highly recommend this car. I have only replaced the tires and the serpentine belt on the driving end of things. Time for brakes and plugs next.

The Mazda MazdaSpeed Protege is, in my opinion, like a hidden gem, no one would expect such power to look at the vehicle, but jump inside and you are in for quite an experience. The stabalizer bar takes some getting used to at first, but as in most racing vehicles, it keeps a tight reign on the steering capacity. Once you hit 45mph, it's smooth sailing, as this is when the turbo kicks in, and you're off to the finish line!! All in all this vehicle is a great adventure for those who like speed without the high cost!

I bought the car brand new, only had 12 miles on it when I drove it off the lot. 45000 miles later and a trip to germany and I still love this car. The turbo gives the car some great get-up-and-go when you floor it. I have had to do little to no maintenance on it. I love the interior and the short shift. The handling, well there aren't too many vehicles that handle as well as this car. Have just recently put on a new body kit, upgraded the exhaust, and threw some 18s on it to give it a meaner look. Overall great car and extremely fun to drive. Tops out at 137 mph. Also love it when someone asks if it's a lancer and the look on their face when I say "it's a mazdaspeed protege."

Nice car...in black only for 03 model...not 03.5 I am partial to it's performance and many impressive add ons that increase it's handling prowess.. IMHO. :)

I BOUGHT THIS BEAUTIFUL CAR IN DECEMBER AND LET ME TELL YOU IT IS THE BEST CAR ALL AROUND THAT I HAVE BOUGHT. PAYING IT MONTHLY IS NO PROBLEM BECAUSE THE PAYMENTS ARE LOW AND I HAVE NO PROBLEM PAYING SOMETHING AS WORTHY AS THIS. IF YOU LIKE THE HEART OF A SPORTS CAR WITH TREMENDOUS POTENTIAL GET THIS. BY POTENTIAL I MEAN THIS, THIS CAR HAS 170HP IT WAS TESTED TO DO 15.3 WITH THE SAME TURBO AS AN ECLIPSE. NOW THE ECLIPSE DOES 15.2 YET IT HAS 220HP AND IS BOOSTING 12-14 STOCK, THE SPEED IS ONLY BOOSTING 6LBS.

This car is really a good car to buy in the 20,000 price range. Hurry though because the supply isn't large.

This car is everything I wanted. Turbo, 17" wheels, tight suspension, 450 watt mp3 stereo, and oh ya the chicks dig it! Very reasonable price sold me on this car, compared to WRX and TSX I chose this one because of price, fun factor, reliability, and to get away from mainstream cars seen everyday on the roads. Bang for buck is huge, especially compared to european cars. Have not had any problems.

I just purchased the titanium gray Mazdaspeed Protege and I am in love. It turns heads and no one seems to know what it is (The yellow is just too over- the-top looking). I'm new to a 5-speed and this clutch and transmission are treating my virgin left foot wonderfully. The sounds system is amazing! If you want a sporty but roomy car that'll have everyone looking...buy this!!! Don't be one of the gazillion Civic owners.
