Used 2018 Mazda CX-9 Consumer Reviews
Style Plus Bling
On the negative side: The high end Bose Centerpoint audio system in the Grand Touring is a big disappointment. Overall muddy sound. Distinctly lacking in clear tonality, particularly in the mid-range. Front seat bottom cushions are too short. The turbo 4 cylinder is fine at highway speeds, but it sounds unrefined when accelerating and at lower speeds. Feels like a cheap engine. Not enough miles behind the wheel to judge fuel economy, but dipping into the turbo drives down the mpg. On the positive side: Very good styling. Quality of interior materials is good. Instrumentation good. Control interface is good. Heads up display is very good and it now projects onto the windshield. Handles way better than the Highlander.

2018 Mazda CX 9
Seats are heated, but not air cooled! Getting out is kinda akward, but not too uncomfortable. Air conditioning controls could have been in a little more user friendly location. GPS would definitely been better had it had real time traffic conditions, and capability to zoom into current location. Biggest issue is the safety system shuts down in hot weather!! Why sell this vehicle in Arizona, if it CAN'T HANDLE THE TEMPERATURE? And again, why aren't the seats cooled?? Heated seats in Arizona?? Air conditioning works great in the rear, but really lacks output on the outer vents in front. Gas mileage is closer to 23-24mpg, which isn't too impressive for this type of vehicle.

Peppy, High Tech, when I have it...
This is our first Mazda and SUV. We got a reasonable price on a demonstrator with about 10 thousand miles. It’s got MANY wonderful features, one of my favorite is the Heads Up display with Navigation which pulls together in a very nice format, the blindspot indicators, speed, speed setting, variable cruise control status, lane keep monitor, turn directions and even stop sign indicators. Very top notch. Lane keeping doesn’t “keep” as much as it indicates. Still disappointed that they don’t make a kick-under rear door opener - but it is automatic. Seriously Mazda, that is it’s only deisgn miss. On issues after delivery, the intermittent wipers didn’t work correctly. The Nav would not take verbal destination instruction, even when stopped - the dealer is working on that. Not to worry, the dealer said they would fix it all at no charge - and provided a Mazda 6 loaner. Then the wrong part showed up in the correct box. Then the correct part in the correct box came. But alas, the windshield is apparently malformed or mis-installed and was replaced. Not to worry, dealer covered new windshield. I really like this peppy SUV, when it’s in my possession. Good news is that the people in service are nice to deal with. I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come.

We loved our CX-9 ...and then it was destroyed.
Bought a CX-9 for the 7 pax seating. The looks of the 2018+ are sleek and beautiful. We went all-in with the Signature because that Auburn Leather and real wood interior was very upscale (closer to an Audi or Jaguar interior). It can take Premium gas (250hp/310torque) or enjoy the exact same torque on regular unleaded (227hp/310torque) ...SUCH a plus to be able to pay the regular gas prices vs $1-$2 more per gallon....MANY of the Mazda's competitors are premium only! Fun to drive and plenty of seating options and the middle seats recline some too. Thanksgiving 2022 at 41,000miles we were hit head-on by a semi truck(offset frontal) and every safety feature this car has worked as designed. Anti-lock brakes, seatbelt pretentioners (front seats) and seatbelt load relief (front seats) front and side curtain airbags, lumbar bag (driver) all deployed. A violent abrupt stop against a rock. This Mazda 100% surely lessened our injuries (3 adult passengers, 1 behind the driver). The engine auto shutoff while leaving the accessories on and the Andriod Carplay dialed 911 since there was a bluetooth connected phone. We hate to lose our fancy CX-9, but it left us with the biggest going-away present ever. Witnesses couldnt believe 2 walked out and the other carried out and conscious. Broken jaw for on one, broken hand on one. All went to hospital, none were admitted, just treated and released. A very bad accident and Mazda CX-9s safety features were the difference. Thank you Mazda.
