Sweet 16
I have had my Continental since new in 94 and have loved every second of it. In recent years had to replace things that just wear out over 16 years, starter, brakes, etc. but overall have loved this vehicle. Still feel luxurious driving it! Good gas mileage, burns regular gas too.
Best Vehicle Made by Ford
Bought this car from a Trailer Park. Man who sold it didn't know what he had. I took this baby home replaced the thermostat and this baby came to life. This car for its age was definitely the future of automotive industry. Air Ride Control, Memory seats, Climate Control, beautiful sunroof that has 3 different presets. Beautiful car. Wish they made cars like this one. Heavy duty frame and real metal, I have never felt safer in a vehicle. This thing is a tank snow by the way. This is a vehicle I would recommend to anyone while its still exists. I will buy another one if I find a good deal.
My Opinion
Overall, I like the performance and styling of my Lincoln. One downfall that it has, when it is raining or damp outside, it does not like to start. Sometimes several attempts are needed to get it firing. It has been to a reputable garage and they cant fiqure out why.
Pass These By
Massive amount of engine, drive train, suspension, and electrical problems very costly repairs and parts even doing it your self!
pretty funky
I love this car, it's a little heavy, but a perfect highway cruiser. I read Freddy's review and I haven't had too much trouble mechanically, it's just important to do regular maintenance with an older car.
Stinkin' Lincoln
I will never EVER EVER buy a Ford product again. Head gaskets blew 4 times, fought me on the ownership warranty each time, I won twice although it was never really fixed. This model is an absolute LEMON!!! and our friends in Detroit denied, denied, denied and put lawyers out front instead of mechanics. I repeat.....I will never buy a Ford product again!
Poor air shocks
I enjoy the comfort and the ride of the LIncoln. I haven't had many problems with the vehicle except for the shocks. I am not the only person that may have complained about this problem. I see many consumers who don't want to let go or just cant afford the repairs to replace them. You see many drivers with their tails dragging. You get much negative feedback about Lincolns. Have you ever considered recalling these vehicles or just stop using the air shocks?
My '94 pearle
After driving this vehicle used from my mother, i have realized that it is a great Sunday afternoon car. It rides great and is wonderful to take on long trips due to it's large interior and comfortable leather seats. I have had no major problems with this car, and it gets me where i need to go at 20 mpg.
Repair Nightmare
Overall a very comfortable car with better then expected fuel usage, but mechanically unreliable. Air suspension system not as comfortable as expected and repair costs way out of line.
Love the big boat!
Bought this used with 140+ thousand miles and it runs like a top. Air ride is great, all electronics work and paint is in great shape. I wanted a FWD vehicle to get around in during the winter, and this is perfect! I can fit both kids, the wife, and lots more. So glad I bought the boat.
DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Engine is total trash. Replaced at 68000 miles with remanufactured engine. FMC extremely difficult to work with. The reman. engine died after 40000 miles. Transmission now shot too. Estimated repair costs @$6000.
Grrrrrrrreaaat!
First of all this car rides and feels great on the roads, it really doesn't matter where your going it's a smooth ride. It gives me a better mileage on gas then what I suspected. It's safe and representable where ever you go. Sorry for the other people who has had a bad expierience with it.
My Signature
I love this car. Shes the loaded model, everything works great for me, Going on 132,000 Miles now, still no complaints. I am the Second Owner, I love FMC, I hate Chevys.
It costs way too much to keep running!
When I purchased this car it was in exceptional shape. The car had been maintained as recommended. I have found this car requires constant and expensive repairs. After putting less than 9000 miles in three years, the head gasket is gone. This is the last straw. This heap is going to the junk yard.
Stinkin' Lincoln
Air-ride suspension constantly fails...replaced many times. Poor design. Freeze plugs...ditto.
It's great while it lasts
I had a 91 and a 93--both used. I replaced all 4 struts on the 91 at $400 each. The head gaskets went on the 93 at 77000 miles...I found this was commo because they bored the heads to get more power. Ford refuses to admit the design flaw. You will find no better ride or driving pleasure for long trpis and 24 mph. If you buy newer the price is too steep!
My Opinion
This is my 4th Continental, 2nd of this bodystyle. All have been very decent cars. Hit a deer a week before my son's wedding and had to have a car so got this one as it was all I could find at the moment. This one had a fuel problem (it would die while driving) that was fixed by replacing the fuel regulator. Hit a rock sticking up in a dirt road and had to replace the transmission, but that isn't Ford's fault. Replaced the suspension with aftermarket coil struts (very easy and under $1000) so sits right and rides well again.
Lemon?
1994 Lincoln Continental 30,000 original miles Have now replaced overhead gasket $2000, drive train trans-axle - Aluminum piston cracked, burned clutches etc. $1900 Belongs to my Mother-in-law who meticulouly maintains, cares for and garages this car. Of course, Ford has never heard of this problem before. Right!
unreliable used car
This is not a good year (1994) for the Continental. We have had continuous problems - everything from plastic interior pieces falling off, to serious engine problems (the latest being that auto just stops running while you drive). We're selling it at this point.
Green with envy
this car is a nice ride,it has alot of great features, makes a great second car.
Good Car
Good car, excellent features, and very fun to drive.
Great looking car
Bought my exectuive(Black-Tan) in 2001 with 123,000 miles on it. Great looking car inside and out. Roomy interior and lots of trunk space. Car is well lit up in the interior and the dash is easily accessible and legible. Similar headlamp appearence to the crown vic, other drivers think your a cop. Too funny! Sold because of EXTENSIVE electrical problems and EXTENSIVE pricey suspension problems. Pretty much why I got rid of mine and for other owners I know why they parted company with their Continentals also. Such a nice looking car, poor engineering on Lincolns part. When will Lincoln get suspensions right?
Renter turned owner.
I remember when I first turned 18 and was able to rent a car with my company. I paid the upgrade charge and put myself in the seat of a brand new 1991 Lincoln Continental. Years following I continued to rent the Continental through the updates but I fell in love with the 1994 Continental. It was the last year of that body style yet Lincoln gave it a somewhat updated look by enhancing the exterior. A new grille, side mouldings and tail-lamps made the car look so much newer. The Executive Series interior was given an option package that included a glass sunroof, driver memory seat and a Continental first, bucket seats with a floor mounted shifter.
Great Car
I have only had my Lincoln for short while but so far I am falling in love with it. Big and very comfortable. Ride is smooth and quiet. Front air struts leaked. $1000 EACH at the dealer but I easily found them on the net for $180 each and they are easy to install. Makes the daily gridlock a bit more bearable.
Professional but Oddly Eccentric
I'll admit, I gave it a 4 rating for subjective factors, otherwise I'd give it a 3, but mostly because of the particular car I received with some odd electrical/sensory issues off the bat. Occasionally when I drive it, although rare, the car starts beeping warning me about problems that apparently don't exist. My dad found the noise box that causes it to beep and told me to take it out but it's so rare that I haven't done that yet. My second biggest gripe with the car is the damn "cupholders." I put that into quotes because you can't call those shallow holes cupholders. Idk how much reefer that engineer was smoking but if you trust his cupholder design you'll get scalded by your coffee. My fix for that lunacy was to take the plastic sheath out and flip it upside down. Now I do use it. Ok so I've gotten the bad out of the way. It's an honest car. It'll get ya to point b. I love it. It's got some character flaws, but that makes me love it more. And it has the best powered seat adjustment. Many, many levels of windshield wiper speed. Good, rugged feel. It was a luxury car, but it's not wimp luxury. Great air settings and adjustors, not the simplest and most intuitive adjustments, but how long does it take to learn? No engine problems yet. EXCELLENT, seemingly endless trunk. Lots of places to hide drugs. Cig lighters everywhere. I love the character of this car, and I don't care how anyone else feels about it, though I'm ready as hell to get an older Lincoln with suicide doors, not that I'm selling this. I'm getting all Continental years at some point.
