IS250 AWD

I purchased this car, used in 2009. There was one previous owner. The car drives pretty well. It is not full of power though as one might expect with this car. However, there are a few quirks about the car that always drove me crazy! For no reason, at 36K up until 75K (I got rid of it), the car would idle at a stop and almost stall. I knew something was wrong. The dealership could never identify the problem. Aside from the many recalls, there was another incident when the engine light appeared. I read that others had the same problem, so I assume that it is just super senstive if you "top" off gas. Who knows? The backseat is not even worthy of mention. It is so tight and crammed.

I shopped the BMW 3 series, Infiniti G35 sedan and let me tell you the IS 250 blew them away. You get a real hot car with a lot more toys. This is coming from a guy who is very very picky when it comes to cars. I was willing to pay up to $40,000 for my new car but as you see I did not have to. This car had everything I wanted period.

I Love This Car

I previously owned a 1995 Lexus ES300 which I bought from a friend when he bought the 2006 IS250 AWD. I put over 100,000 miles on the ES after I bought it and thoroughly enjoyed that car. But, I have been telling him since he bought the IS that i wanted it when he was ready for his next new Lexus. This past Saturday he bought a new RX 350 and I bought the IS with 95000 miles on it for a little less than the trade-in value. It is comfortable to drive, has enough pep for this old fart, looks amazing (the previous owner took meticulous care of it), and is everything I wanted. Two years later, I still love this car 8/1/17 - we are now a year later, and I still love this car. Because I live so close to work, I have only put 6200 miles on it. It has been everything I hoped for 2/1/18 - Another 6 months, and I still love it. No problems. No issues. Routine maintenance. What a fun car!! 8/1/18 - still lovin’ The car. It is awesome!

To IS250 or not IS250? That is the question!

First and foremost yes to IS250! That is the answer! I've been a long time BMW fan and enjoyed driving the crap out of them. I've owned at least ten of them in my lifetime. But one too many expensive repair trips left me wanting something sporty yet reliable. My first experience was with the Lexus GS300, loaded to the gills with Navigation, Mark Levinson sound, DVD, park distance control, etc. I recently sold my daughter's Honda Accord with 192,000 miles. A great car for the money and reliable as well but with none of the Lexus care. I told my daughter not to worry that her mode of transportation would not be gone for too long. Enter the Lexus IS250. Taught lines and and a sporty appearance with 18" sport rims are a winner! Included are navigation and back up camera, heated and cooled seats, etc. I bought it for my daughter, used and slightly abused because the previous owner had a dog and lived in San Francisco. Yet all of the Lexus dealer service records indicated that at least the drive train was in perfect running order. Basically, purchased it for the KBB dealer trade-in price which was about $3000 more than I sold the Honda Accord for and daughter definitely approved of the appearance overall and tremendously discounted price due to scratched bumper. Lexus has always had a reputation for reliability and they have really taken care of this car. Lexus has made several recalls on this car and a major engine recall where the piston rings were faulty. So, 127,000 miles on the odometer, I basically have a just like new Lexus certified rebuilt engine! BOO-YAH! WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER! My wife drives it and loves it so much, she has to battle my daughter for the use of the car. They're both petite, so, it fits them both perfectly and I don't worry because of the safety features and good gas mileage. My only gripe is that it is tight in the back seat and owning a GS300 for myself leaves me to believe that in comparison of quality the GS300 is much higher. Get what you pay for. Edit 3/23/2018: Driver's seat is now ripped due to the fact that it is vinyl. Sad. Edit 9/29/2018: Dashboard looks like its beginning to melt. Sadder still.

Should have test driven the car more...

Initial presentation/design excellent. Ride/handling tradeoff poor compared to best in class; ride is too busy/abrupt for actual handling precision and ability. Electric steering numb. The relationship between dash/windowsill height and seat height makes visibility poor in the name of style and pedestrian safety standards. The transmission, while smooth, is easily confused and is generally delayed when a downshift is required. Engine is smooth and adequate but transmission makes it feel flat-footed. Various technology is advanced and easy to use.

This car is GREAT! I traded in the 2003 Benz in hopes for a better performing car in the winter months (rain, snow on the pass) here in Seattle. I've always been a die-hard loyal consumer of German autos, but alas, the Lexus encompassed everything for which I was looking. Compared it to the others, the Lexus provides a tight package with liquid-smooth operation and great style. Considering the Lexus weighs more, I figured performance would suffer. I was dead wrong!

This car is perfect for my needs. I hear a lot of complaints about wanting larger back seats, but I don't tote 4 people all that often. If you want a bigger back seat, BUY A LEXUS GS or LS! If you want more power, GET A IS350 or IS-F!! This is a great car for a single person or couple and can haul 4 people when needed, but not all the time.

This car is the "dog" of the fleet, not quick. Not for a person over 6' or fat. The best performance upgrade for this car is an IS350. I recommend an AWD model so you don't have issues with the staggered tires and rotating them. The driver's side foot well bump by the gas pedal is annoying. My car has had floor mats, steering column, sensor failures, exhaust pipe hole, most recently the CSP for the engine issues. $10,000 worth of issues were covered under warranty or recall. In 4 years of ownership I have only paid for typical scheduled maintenance including tires, spark plugs, and oil changes all done myself. I have paid for no out of pocket repairs in 4 years of ownership.

Fun car but driver seat is crippling

I have had this car for 2 1/2 years. It is a beautiful car and mine did not have any quality problems. It is fun to drive though the acceleration and cornering could be better. I usually have 1 or 2 people in the car so the tiny back seat is not an issue. Few things to be aware of: The wheel well on the driver's side is narrow and has a protuberance that forces me to sit at an uncomfortable angle. I have a hip/SI joint problem that I think the car contributed to. Second thing: Warning lights are extremely annoying -- even for something trivial like a low tire. And the low tire warning goes off a lot for silly reasons like temperature changes -- and only the dealer can turn it off

I've had this car since it first came out and all I can say is Toyota still lives up to their reliability. They truly built this car with pride and honor. I've driven this card hard and yet she still gets on going and going. Unlike my Mercedes, I didn't have to dump money just to keep her going, and when I did have a major problem; Lexus took care of it. Lexus fixed my misfire at idle (piston rings) for free. That's an easy $2000 job. Who would do that? My car value also holds it's value pretty good in comparison to other luxury like Infiniti and BMW

My IS 250 now has 18,000 miles on the odometer. I previously reviewed the car at 11,000 miles. I have not had any further problems with the car and have taken it in for routine oil changes and maintenance only. I am pleased to report that at 18,000 miles the brake pads are still good and the original tires have plenty of tread left. I am getting an overall average of 27 mpg according to the onboard computer. On the highway the average gas mileage is 33 to 34.

The IS 250 has an insufficient AC system drain line that clogs and doesn't drain condensed water adequately. Water then drains to the passenger compartment where it can do extensive damage. The problem can manifest itself beyond warranty time frame (by 2k miles in my case) and Lexus offers only token support to remedy the design problem.

I've had my car for a month now and I still get compliments at work about my car everyday. I'm a female driver and I purchased the 6-spd manual trans model and I tell you, it's fun to drive it and a wonderful feeling to see people's expressions as I pass by them. They remind me everyday that I made the right choice.

The IS 250 is a fun car to drive. The auto handles well, even at high speeds, and has a nice feel and response. Excellent brakes. The ride is plush and very pleasing. I like the paddle shifts on the steering wheel. The heated and ventilated seats work well in cool weather. I have not tired during the summer season. The shape of the car is exciting. Love all the angles.

I originally loved this car but when I started to drive it around in everyday situations I realized I made a mistake in leasing this car. The visibility is very poor for parallel parking and also for making turns and backing up. I have damaged the wheels and wheel rims because of this. This is my first lexus and my last.

Thus far with only 7500 miles on the car we are generally happy with it. I would recommend to Lexus that they use a higher profile tire and that this vehicle be sold only with a backup camera. It is impossible to see anything that is behind it, reasonably. A recent 900 mile trip gave about 33 mpg which we think is excellent for a 200 hp machine with the added drag of AWD.

Has i bit of issues with the sensitivity at higher speeds, but its not that big of an issue.. i didnt know i had to put 91 octane in the tank.. but for a 16 gal tank, got approx 411miles to the tank, i drove from vegas to santa barbara on 1 tank, great power! No issues going up or down hill, the tep stayed flawless. Very easy car to drive.

50,000 Mile Review

I have now driven my IS 250 for 50,000 miles with little or no trouble. I replaced the tires and front brake pads at 45,000 miles. I am still using the original battery and rear brakes. I have switched to regular gas and am getting a combined mileage of 26.2 mpg. On the highway I am getting as high as 36 mpg using a coasting driving technique. The best way to accomplish this is to activate the instant mileage display and then slightly back off the gas pedal intermittently and watch the mileage indicator go up. The vehicle has been subject to a number of recalls but I have not experienced any mechanical failures other than a slight oil leak from the dip stick when new.

Paid $26k for AWD, Certified, with 30k miles. This is my first car ever purchased. This is a sexy, fun to drive car. The selection process is simple. Pick your power 200hp or 300hp, Navi/No Navi & pick your colors. Many safety features the average Joe wouldn't notice. Bad posture & fat rear/gut = car seems small Common problems that have solutions: -Small back seat - buy a GS -Brake dust - low dust ceramic pads -Horse power - give up AWD for IS350 RWD & 100H

40,000 Mile Review

I have driven my 2006 Lexus IS 250 for 40,100 miles. I purchased the vehicle new in 2005. The computer indicates the average gas mileage for 40,100 miles is 26.1 miles per gallon. Highway gas mileage is as high as 36 mpg when driving 65 mph. I have been using mid grade gasoline and the mileage and performance is the same as premium grade. I back off the accelerator when possible to increase the gas mileage. The car has the original brakes and tires. The front brakes need to be replaced but the tires still have at least 10,000 miles left on them. The car has been extremely reliable since a few initial glitches. No major repairs to anything.

More Standard Equipment Than Competitors

2006 to 2012 cars are all nearly identical. Standard equipment is aweseome and smokes competition. Super easy to buy. Color?, navigation?, AWD or RWD?, and then you choose if you can live with 200HP or you need 300HP. The 250 AWD model is the dog of the pack. I have a certified pre-owned model I highly reccomend. Issues: recall for floor mats, recall for steering column tightening, and had 2 sensors fail. All covered under warranty and dealer gave me a brand new vehicle to cruise around in. Car requires a large amount of oil. You also need a Special Service Tool (SST) Toyota "cup" to change the oil filter. Paid $24,999 for CPO '06 with 30K miles in 2009. 2.9% APR for 3 years in Chicagoland.

My IS 250 and I are celebrating our 11th anniversary this month. It remains bullet proof and a great and reliable ride for all seasons. Bullet proof is the term Carl at my local auto body shop said about his experience with this Lexus model. I had to take mine in when I was rear ended a few years ago and the plastic cowling had to be replaced. Carl said the original 2006 IS 250 has quality materials far superior to what he has seen on recent Lexus vehicles brought in for repair, especially the cabin interior. I Just finished polishing and detailing my Lexus and it looks damn good after 11 years of Colorado weather exposure. The AWD feature has been an excellent and reliable feature when it snows and icy road conditions have to be navigated. I only have 86k miles on the vehicle and when our first grandkid gets a license I will feel very comfortable transferring this vehicle to another family member because of its safety and reliability features. Another thing I like about the Lexus is the outstanding customer support the local Denver Kuni Lexus dealer provides. They don't care if you own an IS250 or the highest priced Lexus flagship car......the responsive customer and technical service is always top notch. They stand by their product.

Still Love My IS

I thought I might not be happy with this car on the first drive. After driving a Trans Am with the 5.7L engine, the 2.5L seemed to be lacking something. (2.2L and 2 cyl to be exact.) But after a few more miles I can honestly say I love this car! It may not be as quick on take off as my last car, but it does just fine. The steering is tight and the car handles like a dream. It is extremely comfortable and everything in the interior is right where it should be. The stereo sounds fantastic. The maintenance and repairs have been very reasonable. I think it is a very nice looking car as well. It has great lines and gets lots of complements. The downside for some people...if you happen to smoke, the ashes tend to blow back in the window an into the back seat and if you throw your butts out the window, you might have to put out a fire in the back seat. (Not mine, but I saw one it had happened to) I would definitely recommend buying this vehicle to anyone considering one. You won't be disappointed.

Overall, this is an excellent vehicle. It has excellent exterior design and looks sporty yet refined. The interior is fairly comfortable for a small to average sized person. It's a very smooth and quiet ride and is very fun to drive. The 250 model lacks in power, but is surprisingly fuel efficient getting 24MPG in town and 31MPG on the highway. Mine has the navigation unit and I'm not crazy about it since the stereo and climate control are all part of it meaning you can't see your radio settings, navigation screen and climate settings all at the same time. My only other complaint is a common one. The materials they used on the dash make it high susceptible to scratching, chipping & fading.

Agree with general review, power of the 250 is adequate, but not inspiring or thrilling. The fit and finish inside is nearly flawless except for the under floor "pumpkin" that significantly sticks into the drivers leg/feet area. This may be due to the AWD model I bought but it was still irritating on long drives when using cruise control and moving your feet around. The only other issue was the navigation system. The disk for the nav system (which became unreadable 2 days after I bought the car) is housed BEHIND the electric clock panel which takes special tools to remove (nearly impossible to do yourself). Otherwise very impressive amenities inside (courtesy lighting best I've seen).

I purchased this car used just this year. It is the 2006 model, with just over 200 k miles- Purchased from lexus dealer whom it was traded to from the original owner. I think this car is so slick and still going strong because the owner always had it serviced @ lexus and they were able to resolve anything during the first initial years. I did have it sputter on idle twice, but just gave it a little gas and it was fine. Car feels like it is glued to the road and in snow and ice/blizzard conditions- the AWD didnt even slip. It's a bit tight on the inside for my 6'2 frame- but i feel like im in a racecar so it's all good. No car manufacturer makes a perfect car. but toyota hasn't failed me

I have owned Mercedes, BMW, yet this new Lexus IS 250 AWD has made more "jaws drop" than any of my previous luxury cars. The body style is simply stunning from front to back. The interior reeks of class and luxury, with rich leather, wood, and chrome appointments. The transmission is flawless, the ride is quite, and the car handles better than any BMW I have owned. The new voice activated navigation system is the best I have seen. Simply an amazing car.

Reliable like a tank, comfortable driver's car on long trips. Style inside and out is superb. Gas pedal is a little too close to the transmission well on the AWD model I own for my foot to be 100% comfortable. Surprisingly strong in inclement weather even w/more performance oriented tires. Gets a lot of looks from other drivers. The leather used in the car feels like a baby's skin - it's wonderful!

I have owned numorous cars across the board (BMW 530, Lexus ES300, Acura, etc..). There has not been a car that has even come close to the feeling you get from driving the new IS 250 AWD. The car stands out like no other. And to top it off, you are in a LEXUS. What more can you ask for. Before the new IS came out, I was torn between the Acura TL and the infiniti G35 Coupe. Once the IS was finally available to test drive, I was so thankful that I waited. I would of been truly disappointed if I would of bought one of the other cars. Not that they were bad choices, but in my eyes, they are not even in the same league.

This car is not the fastest or the best handling in the sports sedan category. However,it has got to be best all-around. What other all wheel drive sports sedan can consistently achieve 26 mpg in mixed city/hwy driving with legendary Toyota reliability? It was unstoppable in snow with all weather tires and the vehicle stability control kicks in when you need it. I bought it used and have had no mechanical issues other than routine maintenance/one recall. My Lexus dealer always has a loaner. In the five categories of performance (handling, power, mpg), comfort (interior noise, hvac - okay my Volvo had comfier seats), reliability, value and style (black with blacked out windows)it gets the gold.

IS for sportiness and luxury....

Had an suv (Nissan Murano) and a roadster (BMW Z3). I ended up not enjoying them both as much as I should with the 2 car setup, being single and all. So I decided to sell both and get the IS 250 AWD - the best combo for sportines, luxury and awd. I highly recommend you the IS 350 if you like to go FAST. I am impressed with the HP/torque of that car but decided to choose IS 250 because I want to get AWD and fully loaded with tech package. The price for a fully loaded IS 350 is way beyond $40K which a bit too much for a small sedan. Whether you choose IS 250 or 350, they are both Lexus. With stellar reliability, good looks, luxury, comfort and perfect built, you will not go wrong either way.

Refined, solid, human factors nightmare

The most quiet and refined ride in class, soothing my 100+ mile daily commute. All the power needed and a surprising 30+ mpg at 75 MPH. Solid handling, though steering a bit twitchy at high-speeds. High res NAV map much prettier than Acura, but input is illogical, can't find many destinations. Human interface is awful and totally Big Brother. Can't input NAV destinations while moving, seat belt chime obnoxious, gets even worse if ignored, resets if you come to a stop, then start up again (drive thru window, parking garage, gated entry). Some NAV system displays (eg: Audio/XM page) "time out" and automatically return to MAP. Arrgghh! Acura has MUCH better human factor design.

I've only had the car for a week and I still feel as though I've pulled the wool over somebody's eyes. Based on other vehicles in its class, this car should cost more. On second thought... I'm happy with the savings- but you know what I mean. I keep waiting for someone to wake me up to ask for my keyless fob back and to tell me the dream is over! The IS250 offers an interior environment that is very comfortable - and it's clear to me that the designer's gave much effort to providing a good mix of tasteful elegance without going too far over the top with tackiness. I'm hopeful the famous Lexus reliability remains true and my good comments about the car remain solid at the end of my lease!

The car is sure footed and evokes confidence and a sense of security on the road. Pure power under control. When I need speed I've got plenty to spare to kick my head back. The F1 style shifters are a great feature and are not the gimmick I originally thought they might be. I use it to slow the car up when I have erratic drivers in front of me. Lot's of "Wow" factor in this car.

As the owner of a 02 Infiniti I was waiting for the new G35x arriving this Nov 2006. Getting my Infiniti serviced one day I walked over to the Lexus dealership and started looking at the IS 250 AWD. I sat, I touched, I looked and I liked it! Started my usual extensive research about the car and others in its class, I liked what I was reading and hearing so after two months I went back and had a test drive. I liked it even more. The new G35 would definitely have more horsepower, but do I want to get the gas mileage all that horsepower will cost? Do I go German and buy this class of car and get the typical German quality/reliabilty? I wanted it all so I bought the Lexus.

My IS250 is nice luxury car. Smooth ride, not the fastest, but has just enough punch when I need it. Overall good experience.

Although I drove the 350, which was a treat, I bought the 250. It is everything most adult males wanting a sport sedan could wish for. If you need super-dooper acceleration, buy the 350. Most people get the 250.

I love my Lexus IS 250 AWD. I got it about 5 months ago and I'm still excited everytime I drive it. Before I decided on this car I also considered many other cars. Overall the Lexus IS was the best car for me - it was just the right size and I liked the interior and exterior. It was a big improvement over the previous.

Love the car; the Glacier Frost paint is absolutely beautiful. Has a great stance, and a wonderful look from head-on. Interior is fantastic. Quality is top notch. The only complaint I have about the car is that the transmission shifts kind of rough, or more just quick and jolty even at lower rpms. Other than that it's a great car. Getting ready to buy another Lexus from the same dealer. Probably won't ever go anywhere else.

This is an excellent entry level luxury sedan. Good power with above average fuel economy. Lots of standard features and price made it my pick over the comparible BMW 3 series and Mercedes C class sedans.

I researched the TL, G35 and the 3 series, this car surpasses all of them by far. You get so many options and you can't beat the luxury and the coach leather heated/venalated seats!!

55,000 Review

I purchased this vehicle new in 2005 and have written several reviews at different mileages. I did not have any problems with the vehicle until 52,000 miles when I discovered that the floor mats were wet from an air conditioner leak. Apparently the 2006 Lexus IS series has a defective air conditioner drain that obstructs and pours water into the interior cabin causing major problems. The design problem was corrected in 2007. There has not been a recall on the problem and the dealer agreed to replace the drain and all of the interior carpets under warranty. The repair would ordinarily cost over $2,000.00 since it requires removal of the entire dash board and all of the interior carpets.

So-So for a Lexus

I leased this car after reading several comparisons with BMW, Audi, etc. My first impression was this is a gorgeous car. Previously had a RX300, so I was expecting Lexus, but the IS250 has been an underachiever. Car has been recalled 2x or seatbelt assembly and brakes. Headliner rattle is noticeable when sunroof is open while driving. My biggest gripe would be that on 2 occasions when attempting to enter and start the vehicle, the push button ignition would not start and I was stranded for hours. Dealer could not address my issue, because they were unable to duplicate the problem.

Have approximately 60,000 miles on car bought new from Lexus dealer in 2006. Tires have never held pressure, always have to refill tires every month or so. Original tires had to be replaced after only 15,000 miles. Lexus was no help - claimed OEM tires were "high performance" tires. Now on 3rd set of tires. Overall build quality does not measure up to quality in Lexus models further up the food chain. Have owned 2 earlier Lexus models, this will be my last. Bought a used 2006 Infiniti M35X that now has over 130,000 miles on it with zero problems - I'm switching to Infiniti!

Very Unsatisfied for a Lexus Product

I have owned my car since the end of 2005 brand new and this is my 3rd Lexus, I previously owned the RX models and never had any problems with them at all, I traded in one of them with over 100k miles on it without a problem. This car has had nothing but problem after problem, from new headers to timing chains, to leaking sunroof. The dealer does fix the problem and keep it to make sure the problem is resolved, yet if feels like after I get it back something else breaks or stops working. I really hope Lexus steps up and changes things or else I may be looking elsewhere for a new vehicle.

This was my first luxury car purchase and what a disappointment. I spent over $35 thousand for this car, and it makes rattling noise by the front doors, by the radio area, and the shifter. I have brought the car back to the dealers numerous times and they are unable to fix it. One of the consultant told me they can't do anything about it. I call the 800 customer service number, and it has been several weeks since I got a follow up return call on their so call investigation. Lousy car and lousy customer service! Don't buy this car, save your money for some other luxury car. This is one of my biggest regret to spend tons of money on a car that is mediocre in the quality.
