Long Term Review '02 GS 300
Bought new in '02 for $40k. It's been a very good car, now at 230,000 miles. Everything works. Gets 23-24 in mixed drving and 25-26 on hwy still. burns 1 qt every 2k miles but i can live with that. hazy plastic headlights are a problem, requiring one of those resto kits. thats a small item and the rest of the car is v good. xlnt leather trim. quiet engine. i'll buy another gs and i hope the newer engine design is as reliable, quiet and fun as the I-6. dealer service is awfully $$$ and if you can find a competent and honest independent, go with that. better value than a 5 series or E300.
Love My GS 300
I have owned my 2002 GS 300 for 6 years. It now has 167,000 miles on it and it has been an awesome car. All I have done is had it's regular oil changes, changed a belt or two and have had absolutely no issues at all with this car. I prefer driving mine over the newer Lexus loaners I have driven. My car is solid, still drives smoothly, quietly & is quite dependable. This is by far the best car I have ever driven and would definitely buy another Lexus due to it's superior quality and performance.

A Dream come true
An unbelievable automobile. I will never drive anything other than a Lexus again
Totally Satisfied
This is my third GS 300. Each one has been better than the last. My current model is the special edition "Sport Design" that has a Euro-tuned suspension, larger tires and some cosmetic enhancements. Now there is no sogginess in the ride. Reliability has always been great and so has the overall buying experience.
A GREAT car
I just got a used 2002 Lexus GS300 for a Christmas present (as my first car!). It is really an amazing car. It's 7 or 8 years old with around 96K miles on it, but it still drives like a new car. I'm always getting compliments about it. The standard 6 CD changer is amazing, and the audio has an amazing bass system. The styling is absolutely amazing (but I'm not crazy about the tail lights). This car hasn't broken down in the 7 years it's been on the road. Gas mileage stinks, but it's a big SAFE car (6 airbags). I'd rather have a heavy safe car than a light car with good gas mileage any day. Take the weight and safety.
Lexus GS 300 is a good car
Bought it new in '02 for $39,500 and i still like it a lot. at 200k miles, it still runs quietly and smoothly. I'll get another one soon. A very few complaints and they are too minor to mention. I'm in sales and it's perfect for that. Dealer service is too expensive but if you can find an honest independent, go with that.
Great experience
Residents of south east Michigan (Motown)are not supposed to drive foreign cars. And until my Lexus, I only drove domestic. What a great experience. The powertrain and build quality are fantastic. Dealership service is only marginally better however.
The ultimate cruiser
Spirited, comfy, great stereo (Mark Levinson), and a GPS to boot. The first car I own where I can drive 350 miles straight and not feel a sore anywhere on the body.
Buy One!
We've owned our GS300 for 7 years now and have had nothing but excellent service from it. It is a terrific automobile! In these 7 yrs., other than routine maintenance, we've only had to replace 3 bulbs. It has been a perfect car. Wife drives it mostly and loves it. Plan to go close to 200,000 miles with it.
A GREAT CAR WITH THE RIGHT TIRES
Had my GS 300 (premium pkg.) for a little over a year now and I love this car ! Quietest, smoothest ride I've experienced. No problems after 21,000 miles EXCEPT problems with the Bridegestone tires the car originally came with. One tire ran flat first 1000 miles; had fixed at dealer. Dealer could NOT balance these tires on the chrome wheels. Car shimmied at highway speeds (65mph+). Dealer finally replaced Bridgestones with Michelin Pilots AND WHAT A DIFFERNCE ! No problems AT ALL other than Bridgestone tires. Dealer experience the best.
GS300 Sport
The GS300 is a pure delight to drive, the car is fun to drive, excellent ride with Sports design package. The interior is well laid out and very comfortable. If there is one area of improvement it would be to increase horsepower, that could be done by dropping in a twin turbo like the Toyota Supra or increasing the size of the engine. The car is very reliable with no problems to date.
My annoying GS300...
Darn it! I keep getting pulled over. I bought my GS300 about 6 months ago and I cannot keep from driving 80mph on the freeway. I swear it feels like I am going the speed limit but twice now I have seen those flashing lights. This car is AMAZING! It is quiet, comfortable, responsive, fast, etc, etc. And my Mark Levinson radio cannot be beat.
02 Lexus GS 300 Soldiers On
This has been a very good car for me, a salesman traveling around Ohio, Ky and Indiana. At 191,000 miles, it runs exactly as it did when I bought it new. I have one complaint-it uses a qt of oil abt every 1,400 miles in the last year, using full synthetic. I still get compliments on the millennium silver color and the light grey leather interior. The handling and acceleration are crisp, for the size of the car. A good value!
sexy lexy
Absolutely an amazing car, everything I've always looked for. Great stereo, Nav System, zenon lights, cd changer in dash, heated seats, memory package, graet interior (second to none much better than mbz,bmw)-- why get anything upgraded? Great service from dealership always with a smile.
Fantastic Car
I bought this car for my son after his Piece of Junk Nissan Frontier was Totaled Thank God. He said he wanted a car and I knew the only I would buy would be a Lexus. These cars are Amazing so far no big issues other than having to replace a speed sensor. My self, my wife and my other son all drive Lexus and wouldn’t drive anything else.

The BEST luxury car you could buy for a used car!!
I bought this car at 130K from the original owner ( a friend of mine) Other than batteries, brakes and tires had only one repair in the 16 yrs she had it, the rear calipers. Now being a New York car I knew I would be looking at some maint issues due to time a rust.. BTW car has hardly any rust after all these winters! I replaced all calipers rotors pads. I replaced the cat back exhaust due to getting a little noise. I need to do front lower ball joints, and I have a fuel leak. I changed filler neck and tank ( costly if you buy new, I did a used southern tank so about $800 total) but still have leak by left rear tire, likely a line. I expected most of this so currently I am in the car for about 5400, including the 4 snow tires and everything. The car is by far the best riding car I have ever owned. smooth and feel luxury. i was jsut car shopping and only found 1 new car to be nicer, it was a 66K car. all the rest where no nicer than this 17 yr old lexus! You MUST have snow tires if you drive in snow. I really have nothing bad to say.. the headlights are not the best... but... its a nice car. I completely enjoy this car. I like it better than my new Avalon. I would 100% buy this car again!

Very impressed
Bought from Toyota dealer in 2007 with just 20,000 km. Nov. 2022 it is still strong at 319,800 km. Love the car and how well its interior has held up. The beautiful wood trim is not over the top, only the steering wheel looks ratty, time to cover it. One malfunction, at ~120,000 km, when the water pump had to be replaced. It has been a daily driver, now for 15 years. My philosophy: I buy the best and most reliable premium used car I can afford, and it will make me feel good and give me driving pleasure every day.

What a combination of luxury and fun!
I bought a Lexus GS 300 Sport Design. What a wonderful car! I needed something larger and more civilized than the Corvette I previously drove, but also wanted a car that was tight and handled well. Although I wouldn't say the car was quick, the power is perfectly acceptable and top speed (140mph) demonstrates the car can move. Absolutely great on the highway. You'll feel great starting this car everyday. Features are excellent for the money, dealer experience was truly painless and like none I had previously experienced. I was considering a BMW but tired of the attitudes of sales staff. Lexus quality is also obvious.
lots of fun
A very good overall car,fun to drive. It is certainly not a sports car. It has a plush and very confortable ride.Great on long trips. The seats adjust very nicely to you and the lumbar support is good.
Lots of power
I bought my car in September of 2002, and I love it, but it is almost impossible to drive in the snow. There is a traction control button, but it is basically worthless when you drive over 10 mph. I will probably sell it before next winter, but for those of you who have the fotune not to deal with snow, I highly recommend this car.
I want my BMW 5 series back
My GS has been in the shop 10+ times. Sounds like a friggin alian spaceship landing in the FR at 40-55, Lexus says "it's normal" but they can't reproduce on another car. Replaced the rack, tires & other parts with no results. Slight presure on the brakes & the noise goes away but they won't replace the caliper - too logical maybe? First 8mo they said "absolutly, there's a problem", now they claim it's fixed & it's normal noise. Also, the car wanders horribly on the highway, that's why they replaced the rack - no change. They took the front end out of spec & did help the drift but it's still miserable. A bit of wind on the road pushes me around, bummer huh?
Lovin' it (so far)
I bought my car used this week and it was in excellent condition. Not too many miles for a used car. It is fully loaded, great sound system, wonderful AC, smooth ride, and so far no problems. I also got it at the blue book value (not overpriced).
GS 300 review
After owning a 1990 turbo Supra, I wasn't sure if the performance would measure up to the comfort. I was plesantly suprised! The 3.0L V-6 is spunky, manuverable, and with the power position selected (broader shift pattern), this car is definitely entertaining. With that great Lexus craftmanship, great curb appeal, and great value for the luxury car it is, I should have known I wouldn't go wrong with the GS 300.
GS rocket
This, car is really a piece of art. Everything fits so well together, the only thing i wish i would have gotten is the 430 engine, it needs more powerrrr.
Fun to Drive
I had just finished a bad experience with Jaguar and was looking for a sporty and fun to drive car that had that European flair.Looked at BMW but went back to Lexus only this time the GS 300 sportdesign model. I thought about the GS430 but figured the speeding tickets were not worth it. The GS300 is a great car, fast enough on the highway with a great ride and finish,if you can buy one.
Very Satisfied in SoCal
I bought this car via the Internet from Lexus of Westminster, CA for their cost. The transaction was fast, businesslike and pain-free. After looking at the competition (Acura, Infiniti, BMW et al) I decided on the Lexus for its combination of style, reliability, performance, comfort and price. Although there's a few things I'd change, I'm quite satisfied with this car and expect to be even more so as time goes by. There have been no problems whatever during the first 8,000 miles.
gs 300 w gps
I am a realtor and gps saves time and clients love it. Couldn't live without it!!!
Still loving it
It takes me 6 months to get bored of a new car. I have owned my GS (Sports Design) for over 2 years now and I am still enjoying it. That should say a lot about this car. No car is perfect. GS300 is very slow from 0 to 60 (over 8 seconds)by today's standards. I have the regular (not Mark Levinson) stereo which is so so, it has a small trunk size and the gas mileage is really bad. On the plus side, it has a very comfortable plush ride and build quality is great. Dealership (Stevens Creek Lexus) and after sales service is superb. For performance, BMW 530i might be a better choice. For reliability and comfort, GS is ahead.
OH MY GOD
I just purchased a GS300 Sport Edition and I love it. I test drove the A6 and the BMW 530I and while the 530 was fun to drive. The GS300 is equally as fun and has the extra cumfort and the Lexus interior. I LOVE the Navigation System and the Sterio is the best you can buy. Go get one today!
I Love My GS
Ever since I bought my GS I've had nothing but fun. I have 20 inch wheels on it and it's dropped on tanabe spring. I would tell anyone get this car it's worth every penny. On top of everything Lexus service is the best.
Lexus
It is obvious that quality means everything to the people at Lexus. My car is without a doubt, the best built automobile that I have ever owned. I own the GS 300 and the six cylinder engine in this car is surprisingly responsive and you have to drive it to appreciate how quit it is on the road. When you put the "pedal to the metal", you feel the acceleration, but you don't hear it.! I look forward to getting behind the wheel and putting it through the paces. I am sure that I will enjoy this car for many, many years.
almost perfect
Even though this model has been around since 98 I still get nice comments quite often. The ride is fine for me, I'm not throwing it around corners so the luxury is my priority. Switched to michelin pilots after 500 miles, goodyear tires were inferior. Only changes I would suggest are quite minor; 4-spoke wheel with radio controls and improved trunk hinges to avoid crushing luggage. Pretty minor items. Dealer service is just what you expect and more, I'd be hard pressed to ever consider another make of car.
none
very enjoyable driving experience.the car is smooth and quite, with lively performance.it was delivered in perfect condition, not one flaw that i have found.
Great Car
Need a little more interior head room. Minor insturment glare on windshield at night. Passenger can't input addresses when moving (navigational system). A couple of steering wheel mounted radio controls would be nice along with a constant display of the outside temperature. All else is great.
Go ahead, buy one. Don't feel guilty
What I liked about my Lexus GS300(Platinum edition) is that its simplicity. Every control buttons and gauge is in right place. No fancy, just simple. The car is very nimble and responsive. Although, the car can use some more horsepower but its enough for the city drive. The service is excellent and it shows why they are always ranked top in J.D Power survey. The only problem that I have with GS300 is you watch your head(I got hit numerous times and it really hurts) when you open the car trunk. Its kinda unstable when it's not fully opened. You'll know what I mean when you go and open it.
Sweet, serene luxury
My frame of reference, my last car, was a BMW 3-series so I definitely miss the handling. But had I wanted a car that handled perfectly, I would have gotten a BMW. I opted for the Lexus because it offers the silkiest, smoothest ride of anything I've driven. Another 75 hp would make this car near flawless, but not at the premium required to get a 430.
Perfecto.
Buy it immediately.

excellent !
bought a '98 with 65K miles on it. Just drives like new. I am amazed at how smoothly the gear shifts and adapts to your driving style.
Love Lexus
I still love my Lexus, but seats are thin compared to American vehicles. Disturbed by notice on airbag exploding and progecting pieces of metal, due to manufacturing and lack of quality control.also, the computer components Don’t work as well. Door knobs don’t lock. And window gets stuck once down. It is 17+ years old
