VERY reliable!!
Bought this vehicle preowned with 50K miles on it and it has been very very reliable. I now have 190K miles on it and EVERYTHING is original on this vehicle (except for wear item like brake pads, and one timing belt replacement which was done at 175K miles!!). Although structurally it's not as solid as the German cars (i.e. MB) the reliability and comfort are top notch. Whats amazing to me is that this vehicle accelerates, drives, handles, and sounds just like the day I bought it. You really can't go worng with a Toyota product, you might pay more for it but it will more than pay off in the long run.
A car that never gets the respect
This car is amazing, it may not be the fastest but it's capable of reaching 140mph on the hwy. It may not be the most luxurious but it knows how to coddle its driver and passengers. The BMW 5 outhandles it, but I can take it on a back road and it handles the curves confidently. But this is the most reliable car I've ever driven. BMW can't even come close on this point.

Best Car Ever
I brought this car about two years ago. I had no problems with it besides the tires which i kept having to replace because of the custom rims. The car really had no mechanical problems until recently the head gasket blew out. The car has close to 200,000 miles on it and i really like the car. If i ever get another car it has to be a Lexus. The car is the most reliable car i've ever driven or known.
Great car
My Lexus 1993 GS 300 is nearing 400,000 miles and she still runs strong. I don't think she will ever quit, hardly ever broke down, other than water pump. Keep up preventive maintenance, like tune up, oil change and brakes. That's all she ever needed and still purrs like a kitten. Love this car.
easy to fix
Bought this lexus from a private seller for 1500.00. The engine was good but needed some small repairs. Took it to my mechanic to redo the needed safety items. It cost me close to 5500 to fix the small items, such as the hoses, head gasket, seals, water pump, timeing belt, and some suspension and recently had to replace the oil pressure sensor. Had it painted for a 1000.00 and went to salvage yard to get items i didn't want to buy OEM. It has over 262,000 miles on it and drove to Kansas from Arizona 4 TIMES AND TO oklahoma a few times. Reliable and smooth on the road.
Best car ever
The only repairs have been replacing the alternator, crankshaft pulley and recently the drivers window regulator. Total repairs over 18 years $1800. It still looks like new and the body style does not look old. Only has 106,000 miles so it is only 50% or less used. When it hits 25 years old I will run it in the Woodward Dream Cruise in Michigan.
Sold on driving a Lexus....
This was my first Lexus. It was purchased used with 37k miles. It has been a dream to own and drive. Very classy & reliable, smooth drive, total comfort. I would like to replace it with a newer Lexus, same model.
Best Car Ever Made
This was the best car that I've ever owned. The head gasket just went out but only after 315,000 miles. It was definitely worth the money. I wish I could buy the same car brand new again. They'll never be another one like it.
great car
We purchase our GS 300 used and have had only one scary mechanical problem in four years. The heater core went out which is very unusual and expensive. Other than this incident the cost has very little problems. We maintain the oil changes and tune ups as recommended.
owner
It is a very reliable car. nice body. I love this car
lexus
we have totally enjoyed the car...
Outperforms most 2005 models
One of the most beautiful car in the 90s. Very reliable and luxury, looks and performs better than most new cars today, I mean A LOT better. With the proper maintenance, this car will last you FOREVER! Did I mention the car was originally designed by Giogetto Giugiaro as a Kensington showcar for Jaguar in 1990.
Quality, Performace and Luxury
Having owned a numerous of different cars in the past, this is the best car I've ever owned. Very reliable and comfortable. Although the car is extremely heavy, it handles and accelerates great. Can't go wrong with a Lexus.
no title
Bought car with 82,000 miles used from local dealer. We have put 50,000 miles on it, and have had no major mechanical problems. just normal brakes, tires, oil change etc... This is a very reliable car with nice styling. smooth ride.
GS-300 gold edition
It is a nice car with slow accelaration. Received from my brother at 55K 2 years ago and start replacing alternators, power steering pump,AC replaced, windows cable and radio antina cable. Lately, radiator went out. Even though it has 87K in 2 years, the car is running good.
Rock Solid GS300
I bought this car with 64000 mi on it in 2001. For three years I drove it all over my state for work, putting around 25000 miles a year on it. It was comfortable, quiet and NEVER left me stranded. I have never had a major mechanical problem with the car in 5 years / 100,000 miles. About the worst was the oil seals leaking at 66,000 mi. Other than that, we've replaced all the window regulators and have had to clean out the A/C system a few times. That's it! It is absolutely rock solid. The engine and transmission are absolutely perfect at 162,000 miles. It's STILL cushy, comfy and quiet with ice cold air. It has at least another 100,000 miles left in it, without a doubt.
Great car
It has been the best car I've ever had. I've suffered fewer problems with it than with other brand new cars that I have bought.
over 200000 and still going strong.
I've owned several cars in my time, and I can honestly say this is the best. It gives me everything I could ask for in a car. Beauty, very roomy, style and class. When I purchased this beauty from a used car auction, the only thing it needed was some soap and water along with a pricey harmonic balancer. outside of that it's a pretty solid car. It now has over 240,000. My kids are requesting I pass it on.
1993 with 293k
I have purchased this car new in 93 and enjoy more now that when I first bought it. Besides the recommended maintenance, including 2 timing belts and getting ready for my 3rd one, the only thing I had to replace was my power steering unit an brake calipers. The only items not functioning at this time is my coffee cup holder, lights on my dasboard and radio. If I get a door ding, I fix it right away. I resurfaced the front seats, but have no cracks in them. People are truly amazed when I tell them my car is 14 years old and has 293000 miles on it, using a quart of oil every 3000 miles. When I buy a new car it will be a Lexus.
nice car, but no re-sale
i am disapointed with the resale of this car. I had it for one year, and lost a ton of money on it because it was impossible to find somebody to buy it privatly. There just is no market for these used lexus's where i live. Never again will i buy a lexus, knowing now what its like to try and sell it, and how much you loose!
Excellent build quality, fair performanc
Excellent, long lasting quality throughout the car. At current used prices, a '93 or '94 GS300 offers excellent touring comforts and potential for many more years of trouble free service at a price lower than even the cheapest compacts. This car looks great, but the 220 hp inline 6 isn't a road burner. Too bad there wasn't a manual transmission option.
fix a few things @ 100,000mile
Bought with 43000 miles 6 years ago and recently just put in about $2000. car is near perfect again mechanically. Have a toyota dealer service it at 1/3 cost on timing belt. Lexus wanted $ 4000 for seal, belts etc. Toyota did it for under $2000 (similar to Supra) with 12000mile warranty on all work. Great 10 year old car!
My 93 Lex
Bought my car new in 93 and I now have 298000 miles on it. What a car, I only had 2 repairs outside of your normal maintenance (brake pads, timing belts and required oil changes) I had to replace the starter at 268000 miles and power steering unit at 272000 miles. I still love the look of this car and besides more cup holders I would not change a thing. Yes it could be quicker from 0 to 60 but once it's moving, watch out. By the way I only use an extra quart of oil between my 5000 miles oil changes.
