Not the original Kia
When my wife first suggested a Kia Sorento I was hesitant. My first thought was of the Kia vehicles from 5- 6 years ago. They were not very appealing. However after test driving a Sorento EX I was impressed. The classy design and the roomy interior was just what this family of three needed. The ride is smooth for the most part (a little bumpy on unimproved roads but so are most vehicles). The A/C works great and the handy storage spaces are plentiful. The hood of the vehicle seems to disappear when driving offering great visibility of the road. Add in the fact that the vehicle is equipped with side impact air bags and a weight sensitive passenger side airbag and you have a perfect family vehicle.
Glad I didn't buy the Lexus RX 330
We thought it was as good looking as the Lexus at half the price. Plus the great warranty as we keep our cars a number of years. The Kia rides and handles great. My first 600 mile trip and my back felt great. I would like a little bit more power but it pleases my wife who drives it 90% of the time. It does have a rattle in the cargo area, but I think that's the 22K I saved on buying the Kia!

Great SUV without going for broke!
I was a little nervous in the beginning when deciding what SUV to purchase. The Sorento was the last on my list but impressed me the most. A SUV for $26K fully loaded with leather? I thought it was unheard of, but the Sorento was all that and more. If you are looking for a reliable, spacious, comfortable, classy looking SUV, the Sorento EX should be on the top of your list. People think it's either a Lexus or Mercedes; when I tell them it's a KIA they are shocked! It's great for lugging our newborn around or just a night out on the town for the two of us.
Love it!
This is an excellent vehicle. I receive more positive comments about this car than any other. It really is the best bang for your buck. Excellent warranty. Awesome steering radius. And of course, ya gotta love the seat warmers. I have done many road trips with this vehicle and have had an extremely comfortable ride. Most of all, I feel safe with myself and my family in this vehicle.
Yes, buy a Kia
We really enjoy our new Kia Sorento. It is very comfortable, lots of room, drives great. We needed to have the digital clock fixed within a week other then that no problems as of yet. For the money, you get what you pay for and more with the Kia Sorento.
Do Not Buy A Kia
Gas mileage horrible; 12 - 14 mpg, Transmission a piece of junk. They can't even fix it. It's been in the shop over 33 days in the first four months I owned it. Stay away from Kia. Their warranty is great advertising, all fluff no substance. They make you bring it back over, and over again. They will not authorize your car to be fixed. They seldom authorize you a loaner. Do not buy a Kia!
Sold on Kia!
I found the Sorento to be very solid and smooth on the road. The controls are easy to reach and well laid out. I bought it for my wife and she loves it. Not too high, but high enough..not too big, but big enough. It's great! Within the price range, it has the most features, the longest warranty and looks the best of all of the other vehicles that we looked at. Coming out of a steep turn requires more manual input to straighten out than other cars I have owned. It's not bad, but noticeable. It is a little rough over bumps and rough roads, but not as bad as some, like the 05 Jeep Liberty that we looked at was worse. We like the tight suspension. This is our first Kia, but not our last!
neat mid size suv
Have been very happy with my Sorento. The only short coming is the 18-20 mpg I get drive -- mix city and highway driving.
Sorry Sorento
I bought the car 9 months ago and since then had a new transmission put in (2 months), new steering wheel (crooked) and a few shimmers and creaks fixed as well as dash rattling. Now the one that kills me is having the harmonic balancer (main pulley) bolt break off while doing 70mph down the freeway and losing power steering and a few other important driving features. Keep in mind that the bolt is connected directly to the crank shaft which is now going to be replaced because KIA doesn't ship complete motors and this after owning it 9 months with only 8000 miles.
You'd want this in your driveway
I bought my 2005 Kia Sorento because my Mitsubishi Eclipse was getting too small. I looked at the Ford Explorer V6 and also the Toyota Highlander. I loved the way this one looked and drove. I must recommend the EX 4WD model because it rides sooo much better then the LX. Especially if you want the moonroof and the power seats!
Impressed with the Sorento
The Sorento wasn't among the cars we intended to check out. Upon reading the reviews, we added it to the list. The test drive was so smooth, we bumped it up to our top three. When the Honda guy told us that the Sorentos are viable competition to the CR-V, we knew the Sorento was the one to buy.
kia builds a great suv
Wife was hit head on by a chevy cavalier. Chevy was totalled and the kia suffered a broken grille, hood and fender. 2500 to repair it. She was not hurt either.
Six Month Review
This is a follow-up to my Four Week Review. It has now been six months and I am very much satisfied with my Sorento EX. Still no problems, and it's still fun to drive. It has become apparent however that at 6' 3" it is a chore to enter the vehicle, as I must lower my head considerably to keep from hitting it on the upper door frame. Once inside, there is plenty of head room, even with the sunroof. For initial comments, see my review of 7/13/2005.
new Kia owner
I have a 2005 Kia SUV. After the first service I had a flat tire after leaving the garage and had to pay almost $200 for a new tire. Then immediately the electronic key kept turning on the emergency horn and required more than 24 hours in the garage. I'm not too happy with this car to date. I had a Honda for more then 10 years and never experienced this.
Kia a keeper
Having owned several other mid-size SUV's and then switching to a wagon that I was displeased with, I decided to look again into the SUV market. I came across the Kia Sorento here in Edmunds and after reading the reviews, decided to give it a hands on look-see. On a rainy, cold day in Western NY, the Kia responded very well to the slick, sometimes icy roads, both on the highway as well as the local streets. The acceleration on the highway was seamless up to legal 65 and a notch above - it ran smooth and handled firmly which I liked. Excellent vision from the plush cockpit gives one a full view of outside, while the seating is comfortable yet firm.
Great little vehicle.
My KIA replaced my old Ford Escape . The KIA rides better and has more power. I pull a 3400 pound boat with my KIA. The KIA has better road handling than the Escape . It has more pulling power at highway speed without down shifts. Over the last 8,000 miles we have averaged 19.2 MPG. This compared to the Escape is 3 MPG better. I have been told that we were working the Escape to the maximum where the KIA is under rated. I believe this is the difference in the 3.5L vs the 3.0L engine.
Excellent
I have been delighted with this SUV. Comfortable ride, solid construction, all the amenities of a more expensive SUV, e.g., Lexus, BMW. Gas mileage could be better, however, this SUV meets all my needs.
My Sorento
I love my Sorento. I did a lot of research before buying and it was by far the best value for the money. It's a beautiful vehicle, I get a lot of compliments and inquiries. The luxury package includes everything the higher end SUV's have for a lot less money.
I am sure I will buy another Kia in 2007
I love this SUV. It handles better than my Blazer Extreme did. And it has a lot more room. It is a beautiful SUV. It has good pickup and gets about 20 miles or more to the gallon -- for this big of an SUV that is great. The seats are comfortable and the ride is excellent. I plan to buy another one in a few years. I also test drove a Chevy Blazer and bought the KIA because of the way it drove and handled.
I love my Sorento
I purchased my Sorento EX new 4 years and 80,000 miles ago and I still love it. I had no use for my minivan any longer, but didn't want to go back to a car. I have had no regrets since I drove off the lot with it. The only problem I've had was my passenger seat air bag sensor stopped working and they replaced it of course at no charge. When this one wears out, I will get another one.
Kia Sorento
This is a fun SUV - so comfortable to drive. Went from a small Neon to the Sorento - absolutely love it.
Best Car For The Money
It drives smooth, holds the road, has plenty of power. It is quiet and comfortable. I can barely hear the engine from inside the car. It has every option that are in other vehicles costing thousands more. The warranty and dealer support are second to none.
Gotta Love My Kia
So far, so good. It replaced a Chevy Blazer. This is MUCH better. I'm happy with the build quality and engine power. Runs great. I live in the Snowbelt and the 4WD works like a champ. Good fit and finish. Plenty of features and performance for the money. I've had one problem with this vehicle that was caused by ice buildup - they don't get upstate NY winters in Korea - Kia remedied it right away. The service has been top notch.
My KIA
I drove and tested several SUVs from the Lexus and Acura to the Honda and Ford - I like the design, performance and interior of my KIA better than the others. It is a great SUV. Remember to change the timing belt as instructed at 54,000 miles.
What A Buy and Great Car!!
We just purchased out Kia Sorento and WOW!, do you we love it. We traded in our 2002 Honda Accord EX and don't miss it at all. The ride to us is equal to the Honda and no rattles, etc. yet to be heard. Great warranty and we hope to keep this one a few years.
Best Buy
I did my homework and test drove quite a few SUV's, but this one took best overall in my opinion. If you want an SUV that can maneuver and accelerate well with great reliability this is the one. I would compare it to a sports car/SUV. I am very happy with it to say the least. I also like that it can tow my 17' Searay with ease. I highly recomend this SUV to anyone in the market for greated priced and well equiped SUV.
2005 Kia Sorrento, Can't beat it
Great car. Interior design is sturdy and practical. Have 4 kids made to fit for my family. Exterior very nice looking and many extras for not much money. Rough ride on dirt and bumpy roads but good trade off for other comforts of car. Excellent warranty. I liked the 3 tone EX, leather seats make it even nicer. Has nice features that were well thought out, Enjoy driving this SUV; it does drive very smooth on the open road (maybe top smooth, received several tickets lately). Will stick with this SUV for a long time. Very satisfied.
so far so good
just purchased the sorento a couple of months ago, and i'm very happy with the overall performance. there are some complaints about fuel economy from others, but i feel that the numbers are right in line with what we choose to drive.
Love my Sorento
We just bought our Sorento two weeks ago and we love it. It's so much more "car" than we thought we would get for the price. Gas mileage is not great, but that wasn't the reason we bought the Sorento. It is loaded with features, drives great (actually, more maneuverable than my old Honda Prelude), looks nice, and fits our budget. Friends and family all are very impressed with the car. We are having our first child later this year and feel like we've got a safe, reliable vehicle to serve as our flagship. I'd highly recommend the Sorento to anyone in the market for a mini- or mid-size SUV.
Great SUV for the price
I've owned my Sorento for 5 years and have had not one single mechanical problem with the car. (My dome light burns out frequently, but at $20 to repair, I don't consider that a "problem"). It has the pick-up to do highway speeds (and more), even when fully loaded. It's got the cargo space more like the larger Highlander than the smaller RAV4, although it's priced lower than either Toyota. We take my car on road trips and while the gas mileage isn't fantastic, the car is comfortable and has a nice ride.
a great car for the money
did a lot of research before buying this suv. a ton of standard features and great value. the 2005 5 speed automatic (with shiftronic) is much more driveable and gives better gas mileage than the 2004 with the 4 speed auto. great looking car -- resembles lexus r300, acura mdx, and the mercedes m series. mine has the sport package, which includes some nice extras. good acceleration when you punch the gas. the premium michelin cross terrain tires are a plus. (and you get a full size spare on an alloy rim)
Kia??? You bet!
Never thought I would ever buy a Kia. Did TONS of research and after looking at everything got an EX with Luxury Package. Great features for the money, plus the rebates made the truck an awesome deal. Like it more than a friends Lexus 300 which has too soft a ride. Looks great. My wife drives it and the only concern I had was that it would be too "trucky" as she had a Honda CRV, but for almost all her driving which is a mix of highway and city, it is awesome. Fast enough, good handling, and very solid ride but not too bumpy. A little wind noise on Windy days, a little jolt on big bumps but overall A+! Way better than CRV for the $$$. Should get the lux package for the full time 4WD.
Excellent Investment
Great performance. Reasonable gas mileage. A lot of vehicle for the money. Good secure feeling brakes. Hugs curves well. Excellently designed with passengers in mind.
My new KIA
The new Kia Sorento we got on January 1, 2005 is the best SUV I have driven. We have a Ford Escape as well. The KIA is a better ride and is much better driving.
Never thought I'd buy a KIA..
I thought KIA's were cheap disposable cars. Then we went and tried a test drive. It wasn't too bad after all, and the warranty was excellent. We do have a problem with the clock. the dealer says he has 16 on backorder so I guess this is going to be a major problem for the folks at KIA if the failure rate on them is this high at 1 dealer.. We also had a shudder in the drive line when starting from a dead stop; the dealer took out some rubber blocks that were in the words of the dealer "made too soft" for the application. Problem solved. We only have 3,000 miles on the truck now and hope this will be as good of a car when it has 130,000 miles on it!
Sorento - Buy It!
This is the first SUV we've owned however many friends have owned one for years. The looks are great, ride is nice.Easy driving for teens is a plus. Still getting used to the gas consumption after driving toyotas (Celica & Camry) over the last several years however we are still pleased with 22-24 highway. It's been great thus far for traveling with ball players on the weekends for 1-3 hour trips. We wouldn't go back to taking a car on the weekend trips for anything.
Sorento
I have been very pleased with the Sorento, its looks and its extreme value. If someone wants an SUV for an extra vehicle, it is a perfect combo of utility, value and function.
Gas Guzzler
Overall nice vehicle poor gas economy
I love my Kia
All I gotta say to anybody that is thinking of buying a kia sorrento is GO FOR IT!.. We recently bought a Kia Sorrento Ex for 28,000 and as a test drive we took it to Vegas. This car accelarated incredibly well we were passing every car on the way on the way up to mountains of 3000 and 4000 feet of elvation.... It is incredibly comfortable and sporty... Honestly people go get one if you can I strongly recommend it....
Glad I Found This Car!
After researching for nearly two months for my new SUV, I finally found the best built car and most comfortable to drivein its class. The looks of the car are head turning and the performance has been great. Although I have only the car for less than a week, I have zero regrets for my final decision. I had test driven the View (tinny and cheap feeling), the Pathfinder, 4Runner and Pilot, and wasn't sold on any of them. Although my needs changed throughout my search (thought I'd like the 8-seat potential), but always left the dealerships unimpressed. The value and performance of this SUV are unbeatable. I have driven a Jimmy for the past four years, and am glad to finally be out of it!!
a couple of minor details...
Overall I have been very pleased with this purchase, it is a great looking vehicle with a comfortable ride and good handling. The only problem I've had is the dashboard clock not keeping time, I have since found out this is a common problem with the '05 model so check that before you leave the dealer. It has taken a while for that part to come in, and although not a big deal in the whole picture, it is an annoyance. Put this vehicle side by side to the Lexus and they look like twins. A good deal for the price.
Great value if you can get a deal
Handles well, very solid feel. You can feel the higher weight in the ride and when you hit potholes, just absorbs it. Interior hip room is great, especially in the back seat with a carseat in the middle(mid-seat 3 pt. belt great for kids to see road too). Looks like a Lexus, very similar features in general, but at 19K, well worth the investment. Smooth acceleration and fun with the 5-auto w/shifter. Looks as strong as it drives.
Sorento, trade your old Sportage in .
It has been an excellent upgrade from my 1998 Sportage. It has adequate room for five. It has been excellent for my two young boys. The 3.5l v6 has plenty of power and the with the auto-stick option, it can be definitely fun going stoplight to stoplight. The styling is more upscale than you would expect from Kia. I feel it's more along the lines of the ML series or Lexus and Acura. I always have people asking me about it and complimenting it.
Best SUV for the price
In the Oregon mountains, we have lots of snow and this small suv with the big ground clearance out drives our Ford Explorer. Our Sorento has every extra known to man and is $7 to $10,000 cheaper to buy than any suv outfitted as nice. Best of all the Sorento is a pickup truck on a luxury body. It is tough.
I Love My KIA!
Never thought I'd buy a Kia, but I couldn't pass up the value offered by the Sorento. For a reasonable price, I was able to get a nice looking vehicle with fancy features. I've owned it for 3 months now, and like it more and more. I bought the EX--my only regret is that I didn't buy the luxury package.
love my kia
I love this suv, it is fun to drive and comfortable. Lots of value here, love the warranty!
wish I would have checked prices first
Just purchased vehicle hard to judge quality and reliability at this time. Bought mostly for warranty.
I LOVE MY SORENTO
So far I am very impressed with my Sorento. A perfect size 4x4 for me. Fit and finish is excellant. Good ride. I am getting 16 mpg around town. I drive 99 % around town, the other 1% frwy, and off road in the desert. I received $ 5000 off MSRP. Great price for a better than average 4x4. The warranty was the deal closer. Can't beat it. I would truly recommend a KIA to anyone.
Great midsize SUV
We bought our 2005 Sorento two months ago and love it. Short of a brake lamp going out, we have had no problems whatsoever. The interior space is ample and we absolutely love the styling. More than once people have commented, "Wow, I can't believe that's a Kia." We'd highly recommend this SUV for anyone with a small family.
Kia at it's best
Vehicle is great! I traded a GMC Jimmy for the Sorento and have not been sorry. Vehicle is fun to drive and performs better than my GMC in the snow. It is very comfortable on long trips.
