Two steps forward, two steps backward
I had a 2019 Kia Optima EX. I traded it in for a 2023 Kia K5 EX with the Premium package, home link mirror, puddle lights and mud flaps. The good; I think the car looks great! sporty exterior and the interior is well thought out. The lane keeping assist is fantastic and improved over the 2019 version I had in the Optima. The 360 camera is really useful. I like the radio, intuitive... The split screen large display is very nice. Ventilated seats work great, lots of space in the cabin and trunk. The gas mileage is also excellent, up to 41 mpg in a tank so far! The Bad; Items missing... Smart Cruise control sensitivity adjustment is not included, my car will jump up to 6,000 rpm when making speed adjustments. It red lines at 6500. A jarring experience which is hurting my insurance score for aggressive acceleration violations as a result. The 2019 Optima SCC was adjustable. The K5 brouchure lists this adjustment as standard, it is not. No interior LED accent lighting (the 2019 Optima had this). The mirrors fold when the car is locked, however you cannot disable the feature. Not looking forward to ice storms this winter with my mirror locked in the folded position due to icing. The K5 brochure lists the disable function as a feature with instructions on how to use it, but it is not included. No rain sensing wipers for 2023, they had them in 2022. Finally, the seats are NOT leather. The material feels like a rubber wet suit, it is not smooth or easy to move around on and the material gets much hotter than leather. I bought the top trim level based on the features listed in the brochure, some of which I had also enjoyed in the K5 EX's 2019 counterpart. Other features advertised would constitute an improvement over the 2019 version, but they don't exist as advertised. The K5 EX cost $11,000 more than the top of the line Optima did 3 years ago. I wouldn't mind IF the some of the quality and convenience features were not missing or been downgraded. If I would have known of the downgraded features and had sat in the seats for a while before purchasing, I probably would have gotten an accord. It has leather seats and all the convenience features that were dropped for the 2023 K5. With the supply chain issues there were no cars available to test drive over a 3 month period. Normally one could take a close look at a vehicle before deciding. Not the case currently. I hope this information is helpful to you in making a purchasing decision.

Intermittent Engine Code, Huge safety concern.
I've had horrible luck with my 2024 Kia k5 GT that I got less than 6 months ago. Constant re-occurring Engine Code (P065312) that's happened from 1000-current (12,665) mileage. HUGE safety concern in my opinion. Also the exterior trim is falling off in certain places and is being replaced under warranty. I've had a few issues with the radio/back-up camera freezing up and becoming unresponsive as well. The primary issue is the Engine. When the Code occurs the car gets stuck at a certain rev point w/ no control from the accelerator, you have to pull over and restart the vehicle to resolve issue. Not the worst thing don't get me wrong, but if it happened on the highway? that's an accident waiting to happen. I've had no luck with any of the dealerships I've been to, and my Kia Consumer Affair rep keeps advising me to give another dealership a chance. I've given the dealership/affair rep ample information to be prepared for the issue, but no luck so far.

A Stand-Out Sporty Sedan
I spent several months researching details and reviews and test driving the 2023 GT-Line before finally making my purchase. After driving it daily, my initial impressions were all positive, with the exception of just a few not so positive surprises. The car had touted its having four USB ports, but only one is for device connectivity, the other three are for charging only. This was an issue as I keep a massive music library on a 128GB thumb drive that I'd previously used as my primary source of music, but with an iPhone 15 Pro Max connected to the wired-only 10.25" touch screen, I lost the ability to have anything other than the iPhone plugged in at a time. The wireless charing slot is virtually useless, as I have to have my iPhone plugged in via USB all the time in order to use Apple CarPlay. Also, the chrome trim piece that wraps around entire roofline and underneath the rear window looked completely out of place on the GT-Line package (it's the only chrome on the whole car), so I immediately installed matching black-out gloss vinyl to cover it after taking delivery (I was able to purchase a do-it-yourself kit and install it relatively easily for $60 and a half a day's work, vs. the $400+ a local detailing shop quoted to do it). This was a huge aesthetic improvement. The GT-Line should ship this way and eliminate the chrome holdover from the Optima days. Also, know in advance that if you live in cold weather areas, there's no way to hop out of the car and lock the door and leave the the engine running. It shuts itself off you try to lock the car after exiting with the engine running and hit the lock. Forums indicate the only option is to use the remote start to restart the engine after it shuts itself off and you're outside the car. Also, there's no place to grab the trunk to shut it after opening (no notch or handle), so the shiny black GT-Line spoiler is constantly getting covered with fingerprints/handprints from shutting the trunk. Other than those few complaints it's been an overall positive experience owning the 2023 K5 GT-Line after almost 5K miles.

2019 Optima EX vs 2023 K5 GT GT1
I love the power in the engine, i really enjoy the look and feel of the infotainment system. i wish kia would get with the times and have wireless projection of android auto/apple carplay. in my 2019 Optima EX, the lane keeping assist was almost flawless, it was slightly lacking on really tight curves of the highway but i feel that is reasonable. with the 2023 GT GT1, the lane keeping assist is almost dangerous. it seems to have extreme amounts of torque and cannot measure the center of the lane correctly, it is constantly pulling the car out of the lane, especially on curves. The steering assist is even worse... it stays on all the way to zero mph and turns the wheel for no reason at a stop. if you are taking a 25mph TIGHT exit ramp it will GREATLY over-correct the turn and do it extremely quickly, i find myself fighting the lanekeep assist, and steering assist constantly if im not going in a straight line. I do prefer the Harmon/Kardon system in the 2019 Optima as it had a cleaner sound in my opinion. Although the Bose sound is pretty good. also THANK YOU KIA for the remote start on the actual remote. jeez. finally. the only other thing i dont appreciate is how easy it is to scratch the glossy finished trim inside the car. and they got rid of the handle to close the trunk????? Also got rid of the button to open the gas cap??? those were key features i really enjoyed on my optima!

IN LOVE!
I love everything about this car. The look, the feel, all of it! It drives very smoothly and quiet and is so comfortable. The display is nice and big and perfect for media and navigation. All of the extra features don't hurt either, like the wireless phone charger or KIA Connect App capabilities. I could not recommend this car more. The miles per gallon is also a huge bonus considering gas prices these days!
Honest Review after 1 Year of Ownership
I purchased a 2023 Kia K5. Never owned a Kia before but purchased it mainly because Edmunds rated it top Midsize Sedan. I am a single father with 2 kids so needed a good little car to get the kids around. The styling on this car is slick and looks nice but that's where the good stops. I purchased this car fresh off the truck with 2 miles on it after the dealer was done testing it. I took it home to find out the back passenger door does not lock at all. Of course because it was such a new car the dealer could not even get parts so I had to wait 2 months before it was fixed. Then Kia didn't want to cover it under warranty. After a couple weeks fighting with Kia Corporate I finally got them to agree to cover their own manufacturing mistake. Took 2 days to get the part replaced leaving a bad taste in my mouth with Kia. 6 Months later I checked out my average gas millage and was shocked to find that I am getting only 28 MPG which is almost 10 MPG worse than the 2018 Honda Accord I traded in. 90% of my driving is Highway. That brings us to the present day. Found out my horn does not work. I guess I have never really tried it but today when I really needed it, The horn just did not work. Dealer tells me its not covered under warranty. I give up I am trading this thing in and moving on and will never own a Kia again.

GT-Line is what i want
I purchase the vehicle 3 days ago, i searched about it a lot, i got the GT-Line with Wolf Gray and Red Interior which is rare and hard to find. Gas/mileage is impressive and the vehicle is so good. Everyone is looking at me. People always asking what car it is and if there was no KIA logo nobody gonna know, someone asked me if its a dodge challenger or something, people always try to race with me but naa its a 1.6 vehicle and i wont race with someone, material is nice, drive is smooth, smart cruise is great. If they dont do a better 2024 model, ill keep this car as long as possible and take care it well, im sadly watching my mileage goes up but i love everything about the car.

Bad build
I ordered a 2023 K5 GT 4 months ago and finally was able to pick it up. Not sure if they let someone test drive my car or what, but it say has 12 miles on it upon my picking it up. When I drive it off the lot, I noticed that the passenger rear suspension was creaking even when not going over bumps. I let the dealership know and they claim it could be from sitting. 500 miles later and it’s gotten worse and no repair date till after November. Being a brand new car should mean they should be able to get looked at right away I feel. When they built this car they should have checked to make sure that nothing was wrong. I feel as though this car is going to be in and out of the shop again, just like my 2018 optima EX
Unbridled Power
The K5 GT is a beast. I have to purposely dial it back or I'll get in trouble. Love it. Really impressed with the MPG I'm getting. Rated at 32 highway, over first 3000 miles of mostly highway driving it has returned 37 mpg. Very comfortable seats and interior. Not impressed with the Bose "premium" stereo system. The Fender system on my previous VW was MUCH superior to this Bose. The car has just about every convenience features and options available but has no automatic windshield wipers. What's with that Kia? But overall I'm very pleased with my choice and how this car drives. For $37,700 this a lot of car and tons of value. Especially considering this seams to be a dying breed, the medium sized non-premium brand, non-EV sport sedan. ++

Trim falling off of 2024 Kia K5 GT
I bought the car last Nov. 2023 and noticed 2 months ago that the trim near the roof was very loose and lifting up. Kia said had to order 2 new trim pieces but I keep getting told that it is in BO and they have no idea when the trim pieces will be in. I already lost one of the pieces as it fell off and I do not know where this happened. Very poor cs. serv. as they should be able to at least tell you when they will receive the pieces, instead all I get is "on backorder and have no idea when the pieces will arrive." That is not a satisfactory response!!! This is Kia Delray Beach.
One of the best
We bought our2023 k5 GT line a few weeks ago..in Sapphire Blue...still learning about all of the bells and whistles..this car is smooth..no road noise at all..we will do a few upgrades as time goes along, but right now we couldn't be happier..the heated seats are a plus..wish it had rear wipers..small inconvenience really..We highly recommend this car..you won't be sorry

2024 K5 GT w/GT1 Package
I previously had a 2015 Optima LX and upgrading to this fully loaded performance model was an excellent decision. Car turns many heads. It’s just visually pleasing to look at like an amazing painting. Had to get tints to avoid the constant looks. Comes with a nice 360 camera that is probably the most useful tool in my opinion to help park in those tight spots and I feel that alone is worth the cost. In addition, this car is FAST. I really didn’t expect too much but the 2.5T coupled with a DCT really blew my mind and had me grinning from ear to ear. If you’re irresponsible with your driving, you can really propel yourself into copious amounts of trouble. However, the car does a great job at correcting its position while on the road while giving you advanced warnings of incoming cars. The car also has a neat emergency braking feature that also responds to pedestrians. Car is amazing on highway. You can go 70-85 MPH and won’t even feel it. Has a Bose audio system however it’s not exactly amazing. The sound is crisp and clear however, the audio system lacks a substantial amount of bass that I feel could be easily resolved by adding a small subwoofer. Bottom line, if you’re looking for a fast car that also has stunning looks, many advanced safety features, great interior, and all at a for an AFFORDABLE rate, I highly recommend the K5 GT. Yes it’s a KIA but KIA now makes amazing cars and combined with their warranty, makes it worth a try. This car is not “just a KIA” any longer I assure you. Side note, I cannot speak for the lower trims in regards to performance, however I hear both the GT and GT-line are virtually the same with the exterior with the exception of a few details such as the true dual exhaust and the standard GT rims, and larger brakes. I’d also like to mention a few cons, Interior looks great for its class (you’re buying a KIA not a Mercedes) comes with Synthetic leather (not a con imo) however the con lies in the lack of available color options for the GT. And for the flagship model, I would expect the red leather seat option but that wasn’t available. Another con would be the lack of AWD for this model. The GT line has it available but not the GT. I’d also say lack of an Limited Slip Differential causes this car to be unable to put its full potential power down as it causes a lot of torque steer whenever you launch the car or accelerate violently from a lower gear. This in turn almost always causes a lot of tire spin as the car just is unable to put the power down initially. Bose audio system while producing great sound, lacks bass. Apple CarPlay is WIRED only and cannot be used wirelessly if you have navigation apparently. You would think someone could figure that out by now. But that’s neither here nor there. In the end, this is an overall great car that many will find to be enjoyable.

A 4 Door Sports Car
I’ve owned or leased many vehicles in my time and many, many sedans. Ford Taurus, Dodge Intrepid, Hyundai Sonata 2.0T, and now a 2024 Kia K5 GT. I’ve also owned a Jaguar XK convertible and have a BMW 230i convertible. I’ve had the K5 for a year now and put 10,000 miles on it and have enjoyed the heck out of it. This is basically a 4 door sports car with tons of room inside and a huge trunk. For long trips it’s phenomenal with a super quiet ride and awesome sound system. It’s quicker than the Jag and the Beemer and handles better too. I’ve driven several long distance trips from my home in South Florida to Massachusetts, Virginia and other eastern states. Gas mileage at highway speeds, well over the limit, recorded 36+ mpg and when I backed off to 5 to 7 over it was pushing 40 mpg. I’m an engineer and a car guy. For a sedan to have this kind performance is really impressive. And the car looks great. I ended up with Wolf Gray thinking it would be less popular, I like to be different, but, it turns out there’s a lot these out there in that color. Definitely shop around if you’re in the market for a sedan, but if you want above average performance, gas mileage, roominess, trunk space, comfort and cool electronics, and an outright stunning look, you have to check this car out.

2024 Kia K5 issue.
I bought a brand new 2024 Kia K5 Gt the day after Christmas. In less than a month and a half with 880 miles alle the light went on and there was no power. Not sure what happened. I turned it off then back on, power was back but check engine light satyed on. Took to dealership and they told me make an appointment. I did but in the days following the car reset and light went off. It did it again about 2 weeks later and again before I could go in check engine light went off. Dealer said take it in as soon as it cone on next time. Been sitting here for 2 hours while they tinker with the car and no idea what it is.

Beautiful replacement for Optims
The car is absolutely beautiful. My only complaint about the car is the paint. I can’t take it to a regular car wash. Was told the brushes may scrap the paint. The complaint I have about the dealership is it took nearly 7 hours to complete transaction. We had to wait forever.

Good looking Lacks quality
The door, hood, trunk fitment is poor closing. The headlight fitment to fender is ok on the driver side the passenger side is sad to say the least. The rear internal fender shield will not stand up to snow/ ice build-up, guaranteed. The GT1 has power. The tech for self driving is good, but do not rely on it at on ramps. They cut a lot out from the 2015 optima SXL for a class car they are toting. Had it not been for burning a qt of oil in 500 miles I would have kept the Optima with 89000 miles Oh BTW not into apps to drive a car Please go back to the basics The above is all legit. After the headlamp assembly was adjusted to fit the fender and hood, Im ok with it. The trunk area is larger than it looks and has no real interference with speakers and what not. The lane assist and dynamic cruise control works quite well. The interior and seat comfort is of higher quality. Two things puzzle me! Why do the main headlights have to be on for the fog lpd to be turned on! Kind of defeats the purpose in the fog. Second, the map destination can not be set while in drive mode, I understand the safety aspect for a driver only in the car, but a passenger is detected and the system should allow it. I am a bit more positive overall.

Fantastic Car!
Shopped for 2024 or 2023 Kia K5 GT-Line. Test drove the 2023 with premium package. It is an absolute joy to drive. Has all of the safety features, comfortable, plenty of room - front and back and detail to driver controls and finishes. The color Wolf Gray with red interior is gorgeous. Would definitely have purchased. But dealership wouldn't accept outside financing and couldn't match my interest rate.

Absolutely LOVE my K5. It has so many amazing features that I didn’t realize I’d want or need. But I feel like it’s the safest car on the road bc of all the features it has. It has some “get up” for a sedan. But looks fancy too! I would HIGHLY recommend the Kia K5. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned in my opinion.
