I Love Jeeps... BUT!
I have had this JGC for 10 months. Within that time I have had to send it in for 2 major repairs. This car has already cost me $1,700 to fix and according to the mechanic, who just replaced my starter, servos and battery, I will be needing a new Water Pump soon. That's another $600 fix. In addition to the mechanical fixes there are several issues that I have let slide, including burnt out LED's in the dash ($150 to repair), window motor broken, AC not getting cold, and door lock getting stuck. This Jeep has been a NIGHTMARE. I've owned 4 jeeps and will probably never buy another one again.
A Must-SEE
This SUV gives everyone an incredibly reliable SUV while still having the comfort and luxury of a car. Honestly, it feels like I'm driving on a cloud, it's like I don't even feel the ground under me.

Seats!
The seats are not comfortable. Water stains the seats, raindrops, sweat, anything. I have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle. It has been in the shop several times for the transmission. I wish I haven't bought this vehicle.
My Perfect Vehicle
Always wanted one...and it's so much more than I expected.
We Love our Jeep
We have had our Jeep now for about 9 months and have had no trouble with it at all. It is comfortable to drive and ride in. With the Hemi engine, towing is no problem at all. I have hauled over 2 tons and you hardly know you're towing anything. The sound system is great and the navigation system is reliable.
It's all good but the gas mileage
Great car - a step above the 2003 that we had. The Nav system is far better than one in a 2002 BMW and overall the new Jeep is to be desired. The challenge is in the gas mileage - it's really low, especially compared to our prior 2003 Jeep that was a 6; this is an 8 and it really goes through gas. Otherwise I'm glad we got it. Hmmm, wonder what the new '06 is like?
The new 2005 Jeep with Hemi engine
I had a Jeep for years and waited till the 2005 came out with the new body and all new features. I have never driven such a quality vehicle in this price range. With the new suspension and new Hemi 5.7 engine it is a truly wonderful drive. It has the pick up you need and the smoothness for complete comfort.
Nice ride
The ride in the 2005 is 10 times better then the prior years, it floats on the road. I love my Jeep and so does everyone who gets in. The only thing I have to say is that I get horrible gas mileage. Also, there are more and more rattling noises, but other than that, so far so good.
Some good some bad
When I bought this car new, it was absolutely what I wanted - for about 10 miles. I had to turn in the car I bought and get a whole new vehicle because nobody could figure out why there was so much terrible wind noise and why is sputtered going up hills in low gear. The new one had similar transmission problems but a recall fix eliminated 99% of the sputtering. When the AC is really cranked, it can sputter a little at times at low speed when trying accelerate. However, this car has been really a gem other than that. No mechanical issues, good ride, takes off road bumps like a champ, and has been remarkably maneuverable in avoiding accidents. Great family car.
LAST JEEP
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee: 1. Intermittent Problem: engine fails to crank (happens daily). Tries to turn over but will not. Acts like battery is weak. After waiting and repeatedly trying engine will start, showing no signs of any problem. 2. Intermittent Problem: A/C cuts off and will only work if fan speed setting is changed to high. A/C cuts off repeatedly while driving. 3. Check engine light (orange engine symbol) comes on anytime fuel gauge reaches the ¼ tank level. When light comes on the engine sputters and misses for several minutes. This light will not come on until the fuel tank is filled. 4. When starting engine with A/C on it takes over 30 seconds for air to blow out of the dash
This is our 4th Jeep Cherokee - No More!
Purchased 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2WD new with 22 miles on it. We are repeat buyers but this car is pitiful. Has 16,000 miles on it and repairs so far are driver's seat broken twice, rear window wiper motor replaced, transmission is now being replaced and still waiting 3 weeks for the parts. We were told poor engineering design put a/c drain hose into the transmission fluid! Knew something was wrong from beginning as it never shifted right at low speeds. Very unhappy with this product and will not purchase another Jeep even after owning four and do not recommend it.
Great Grand Cherokee
One of the best cars I have had during the past 20 years compared to others from Ford, Mitsubishi, Mazda and GM.
TERRIBLE NEVER BUYING ANOTHER
I bought my 05 Jeep Grand cherokee in June of 2008 and have had nothing but problems since day one. Right away the starter went and then from there on the list is endless now the rear end is leaking the car only has 54,000 miles on it and it's sitting in a driveway because within the past 3 weeks it has cost me over $2,000 in repairs. love my jeep but it is really getting ridiculous. I am looking into trading it in for a brand new honda, no more jeeps even though I have loved them my whole life. I guess it's just the luck of the draw some people have good luck others do not.
Best Jeep Grand Cherokee Yet
This is our 3rd Jeep Grand Cherokee. We owned a 1993 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (V8 w/QuadraDrive) and 2001 GC Laredo (6 cylinder). This time we got the Hemi with QuadraDrive II. We loved the '93 Wagoneer. Hated the 6 cylinder Laredo. We love the 2005 GC with Hemi. It rides like our 2001 Audi Allroad. The ride and handling is like a European sports sedan. The acceleration is awesome. The QuadraDrive II did exceptionally during the last New England snow storm. It tracked perfectly without any slippage. The traction and stability control truly enhances the QuadraDrive system--this Jeep can go anywhere. The Bluetooth link to the cell phone is a very nice feature. The navigation system works flawlessly.
Awesome
Except for having a rear view mirror in my view, i don't have any complaints. I've driven mine into a ditch on the interstate, off-road, very off-road, on gravel, and it's a great ride and I've never broken anything on it. Built like a tank. GET ONE!
2005 Grand Cherokee
Fast and fun to drive, plenty of power, pulls a 3000 lb. boat like nothing. Gas mileage stinks even with the mds engine. i hope they come up with a retrofit for alternative fuels when they become more available. Negatives, unless you like paying for fuel don't buy the 5.7 v8. Entering the vehicle is cramped for someone tall; the angle of the windshield post is too steep and you constantly hit your head.
3rd Jeep
This is my 3rd, I wasn't too into the new design at first but it has male thing about it. I traded a G-35 coupe for it. That was 0-60 in 6 seconds, this is 0-60 in 7 seconds; for a 4x4 thats unheard of. This Limited is loaded, and the toys are fabulous, I can't wait for the first real snow storm to put it to the test. I'm sure it will handle it in stride like the other 4x4's I had in the past only with more capability. I noted a couple of minor paint flaws but other then that it has been real tight. It has 4000 miles on it already, and it has been living up to a Jeep. Mileage is what they stated. :-)
ugggh!!
I bought my Jeep with 70k on it and and have driven it 5k and my fuel pump needed replaced, a shock was leaking, and my tranny just went out. Each one I had to pay $200 deductible with Chrysler. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty or id already be out like $4k! If you purchase this vehicle buy the warranty! If I were you though, look elsewhere!
Love-Dislike relationship
Bought with 600 miles - two weeks after purchase in shop for blower motor in fan, gas cap light on, whistle in air conditioner. 1 month later - gas cap light on, still noise in a/c, wind noise from all doors, low voltage light. 2 weeks later - gas cap light on, seats badly stained from water, etc! 6 days later - check engine light on, still noise in a/c (after being repaired-ha-each time). 1 1/2 months later - seats replaced; still stain, noise still in a/c, problem with rear vent. Had surgery, so not driven for a bit. May 06 - wind noise around all doors, sway bar links bad, 4WD light on, bumper paint peeling. All have been repaired, but Jeep customer service is a joke and can't get answer on lemon status.
2005 Jeep
Bought this vehicle to replace my 1999 GMC truck that I wrecked. The vehicle was still under factor warranty when I bought the car. I'm getting 18-20 mph around town and 20-24 on the road. I like the design of the Jeep and the ride and for the price it was the best deal that I could find. Had to have something large enough for a family of t but still got decent MPH.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo
Pros: The '05 is quieter and has a smoother ride than the older models. Cons: The gas tank is smaller than the older models, so I'm filling up sooner. Plus, this model is bigger and more square; sometimes can difficult to park because of this.
love my JEEP
Fun to drive, tons of power, quite interior, great stereo.
The Invincible Jeep
I have driven Jeeps for over 12 years now, and I have never had to do one thing to the car, except regular oil and lube changes. The car is unbelievable. A great ride, very sturdy, and even though it is the only SUV that really has a truck base, it drives like a luxury car as well. It can withstand rough terrain and roads (the only car the Army used for reliability). I only had to call a tow once, when I ran out of gas. Every other SUV is a knock-off.
Great Jeep
Ive driven 3 Laredos but this time I decided to go to the top. The Limited is really great to drive. I didnt think I would ever use the NAV but it was a big help when I had to find my son at a hospital emergency room. I only wish the NAV was real time so I could avoid gridlock. I am glad that the CD changer was moved from the rear of the vehicle to the dash. I love the tire monitor as well, great idea.
more fun than my c5 corvette
Ijust puschased a 05 laredo and i cant believe how great this suv is. driving for my job ive had an envoy and a 04 jeep over the last 4 years. I loved the 04 jeep in the snow but hated the looks and the body roll in turns and the seats of the o4 would roll you around..this 05 is quiet better on gas and it has great looks, a great interior and to be honest is more gun than our c5 corvette..and believe me we love our corvette..in facy the wheels are the same as the 97 98 99 corvette style..this jeep will sell like hotcakes ..its fresh we got the kakai green pearlcoat and its beautiful..the sound system is as good as bose and the adjustable pedals are the best...buy this jeep you wont be sorry.
Pretty good so far
This is my first Jeep. It is fun to drive - plenty of power. Love the warm seats. We took it to the beach in Pismo and it performed great in the sand. The backup alert/warning system is handy except when I have the swing out bike rack on the back which causes the warning sound as soon as you go in reverse. The driver's seat automatically moves forward and backwards when you turn the car on and off. The passenger area shrinks when the seat moves backward. One time, a passenger in the back got her foot stuck when the seat moved backwards. My one peeve is the rear-view mirror is too low such that it blocks out much of the right side of the windshield.
Happy Owner
We had an Isuzu Axiom and Ford Escape before this and were disappointed in both. The Jeep is trouble-free and costs nothing but gas and an occasional oil change. On the other hand, our MB S430 lives in the repair shop. Go figure.
Love My '05 Jeep
I've only had it for a short time but I'm loving it. I've driven SUV's since 1984 and this has the best ride and handling by far. Everyone I show it to talk about how good it looks.
5.7 hemi
I have the 5.7 hemi engine. the car is wonderful to drive. It is much better than my 2001. the ride is much better and the car has lots of pep. it also runs on regular gas.
disappointed
Oh my, where do I start. So many things gone wrong, parts melting, 4 WD drive system had to be completely replaced, drive shaft when 3 weeks in possession, etc...etc...etc.. it doesn't stop. I kept the car this long just because I looooovve driving it, but I sure can do without all the repairs. I put up with it under warranty, but that is over with. I've had to invest thousands in to my Jeep this year, of course after the 100,000 mile warranty ran out, figures. I would love to trade it in for another one just like it, but all the troubles I had with it scares me to buy another Jeep again, or any other Chrysler product.
Great Jeep
I love this Jeep and the Hemi that's under the hood. It is a big improvement over my 2001 Laredo, the Boston Sound System is awesome and the ride is smooth. The fuel economy could be better but I figured it would be poor with the Hemi. The Auto Climate Control keeps the vehicle comfortable. My kids love the rear entertainment system. Overall a great buy and the build quality is better than the past. My 4th and best Jeep.
MUCH Better Than my 2002!
I recently Test-Drove the New Jeep a few weeks ago and liked it! I have a 2002 and, as Reviews say, the 1999-2004 Jeeps Rock From Side-To-Side! This one doesn't!!!!!!!! I Test-Drove the New 5.7L Hemi!!!!!!!!
Fool Andy
I bought this car because I like the look and feel. Ignoring warning from consumer review about quality problem, I bought the car. I had my Jeep 11 months. Bring the car to the shop 15 times to fix transmission problem and some engine light. The car is still under warranty but the problem was never fixed. Chrysler almost seems to not care. Fed up with it, I traded in the car with a 30% loss.
J:ust E:mpty E:very P:ocket
I drove this off the lot as happy as can be. I loved every aspect, heated leather, 4 wheel drive, Sunroof, DVD system, etc. I was thrilled during my first year of ownership (I purchased the Jeep with 40K miles). The second year of ownership has been nothing but problems. I have had constant problems with all electrical components (dash lights, A/C, etc). The Jeep turns off unexpectedly... I have had multiple Certified Chrysler dealers look at the problem and nobody has found a fix. The issues aren't constant; they come and go... very annoying. I will not purchase a Jeep again.
Jeep
I have had the truck a year and a half. It's been a very good experience. It drives nice; however on turns I don't feel as if I have total control of the truck. Of course I am going 50-70 on turns but I still don't feel that the reliability on turns is there. In the snow the truck is a machine; I don't even have to plow or shovel -- just go right over it with no problem.
Awesome ride, great interior....
We were looking at getting a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the massive dealer incentives but my wife fell in love with the safety features of the 2005 version (No Daimler Chrysler product introduced since 2002 has received less than 5 star crash rating). We bought one on the last day of the month and payed 1% over invoice less the $1000 Jeep cash. The dealership gave us $600 more for our trade than any other dealership would give us so I guess they cut into their holdback a little and sold it for about 1% under invoice. As for the vehilcle, it has the best ride of any of the midsized SUV's we tested (Ford Explorer, Chevy Trailblazer, 2004 JGC).
It works!
I bought the JGC LTD (5.7 Hemi) in Missouri and drove it home to FL. So far, so great! It's a blast to drive and the new model year suspension is very smooth. As expected, the fuel economy is not great but that isn't why one buys a SUV. I've now driven over 1,400 miles and I can't say it's anything less than expected. And it's a head turner to beat.
Initial thoughts
Only driven a few miles. But I thought I'd compare to previous '96 and '99 models I owned. I tested the Pilot, which handled typically like a front wheel drive bus, and both V8 & 6 cyl 4Runners, which drifted all over the road at highway speeds, and settled for another JGC because of in- law's employee discount and several rebates (financing, military, and general= $2500). Options included tow pkg. (class IV), 28F (v8), cargo grp. Stickered $32+K paid $26K plus taxes & plates.
My Unreliable Jeep
I purchased this Jeep brand new in 2005. I have had nothing but problems. It has cut off on me about 7 times. One time on the expressway in traffic. Thank goodness it restarted. I do love this SUV. It's strong, the radio is powerful, 6 cd player is great, etc., but the reliability is horrible. The Jeep is built where there are no rattles,it goes over most things so smooth, but I am eventually going to have to trade it because of the most important thing,it cuts off on me and jerks and shakes a lot. What a shame! Never another Chrysler.
"Rocky Mountain Edition"
Having had this vehicle for nearly 4 months. I am overall fairly satisfied with the latest design. Jeep has done a commendable job of eliminating the nauseating sea swell motions of the previous version. While I didn't pay anywhere near retail, I still think a vehicle approaching $40k (MSRP) should come with a more refined interior. The dash is far too plasticky and there are many hard surfaces throughout.
2005 JGC first impression
Have not driven a Chrysler product in over 20 years. Pleasantly surprised with car like ride, precise steering, quiet, good power (5,7l), interior has European "quality feel", achieved 17MPG+ right off the showroom floor, no negatives so far.
Think Twice about Jeep Grand Cherokee
I am on my second Jeep Grand Cherokee now and will not purchase another. My first Jeep, a 2001 needed constant brake replacement and the transmission and transfer case both broke down. My 2005 Jeep currently has 37,500 miles and the mounts on the transfer case/transmission went out while I was driving and I was stranded at a busy intersection. Now, even though I have an extended warranty...Chrysler may not cover it. They also make you service the differentials every 12,000 miles at $300 each time...no other car company I called required this. The brakes on this car have also been replaced 3 times. I am done with Jeep.
watch out Toyota-Honda
This Jeep is better then all before. I owned a '97 and hated it. I drive mainly highway and snowy conditions so Quad-1 is fine for me. Room galore for my 6'-5" frame and big family. Cargo area is great, flip tray and hidden areas help, vents are great, standard speakers are fine for normal use. Jeep put exactly what they needed in this baby. If you are looking at Highlanders and Pilots, check this out. Looks and road feel plus the Quad system and suspension work like it should for most SUV owners who actually never leave the road!
Gentle power of the Hemi V8
I have the Hemi version, which to my surprise (on test drive) was more fun than 350hp supercharged Z3 i own. It is just plain fun to drive. Comfort and power in what ever combination you require to suit your mood that day.
the vehicle for you
Traded in a 1998 6 cyl.Laredo. Have to tow 3500 pound boats occasionally and I need the extra oomph provided by Hemi. Solid feel, has authority, pep, and power...Storage space not as much as 1998, rear seats don't come up to put cables, etc. in. Overall, very happy. Glad to see Mercedes engineering that when cruising on the highway it goes back to 4 cylinder, sure helps mileage. . . Love the silver paint job. This will be a good seller, a real improvement and folks will be happy with the Hemi. AND, a lot of bang for the buck.
Short Life, Big Probem
I purchased on 3/24/05. On 3/29/05 after 147 miles, heard a tremendous "bang" underneath car. Entire car shook. Much clanking and banging under car before I got it to road shoulder. Towed to dealer. Front transfer case separated from chassis. Dealer does not know why. Chrysler now involved. Car has been in dealer shop since 3/29. Car rides well, 4.7 liter big enough to move it, comfortable, gas mileage unknown at this time. My 2002 Grand Cherokee with same engine delivered 15-16 city and 20 or slightly better on the open road.
daves review
very nice and quite fast
Can you say "Hemi"
The truck is redesigned to look more square and boxier with a tougher profile and even tougher engine...the Hemi. I've driven all the suv's in the $35-50K range and you definately get the most bang for your buck in the '05 Grand Cherokee Limited. So much power to spare you feel like your driving a BMW off the line, a lexus on the highway and a rover off- road. Overall, very sweet ride.
Red Jeep
This is the fourth Jeep we have owned and each time we buy a Jeep we think to ourselves that we will never have a better vehicle to drive. We have a bright red Limited with the GPS system but what really sold my husband on this Jeep was the Hemi motor. It is by far the best vehicle we have ever owned!
The Best Jeep Yet!
This is a great vehicle. Very solid feel and very quiet. Excellent Boston stereo. Excellent exterior and very good interior. Nice "thud" when you shut the door. Build quality seems very good.
