Rides GREAT, lots of extras that are standard. Wonderful design and build. Great power from a 3.7L V6! 4X4 model is a "all-time" making the fuel economy TERRIBLE. In a day of $3 a gallon fuel, this is a BAD "gas guzzler".

Trail Rated 4.7 V8 w/trailer tow package best bet. In 45 years of driving (almost all 4x4/awd) my JGC Laredo is one of the best highway cruisers I've ever owned. I live in Winnipeg, MB, Canada and I've never understood why everyone doesn't own a 4x4/awd vehicle. It pulls my boat (1500 lbs) and I don't even know it's attached. My son from Calgary is buying the Jeep from me because after looking for a newer vehicle, both in Calgary and Winnipeg, my Jeep came up "best" as a vehicle for the next 2-3 years as the auto industry goes thru some major changes. Now I have to do the looking for a replacement and the Jeep GC is the only NA vehicle I'd consider. Ext. warranty hasn't been needed yet.

I have owned three other Jeep Vehicles in the past and this is the best one yet. I feel totally safe and comfortable with this Jeep. Its ability has overcome all the other Jeep vehicles I have had in the past. My Laredo is actually a 8 cylinder not a 6 but they don't have that choice on here but it is an option. To anyone who would be interested in buying this vehicle, I give it 5 stars and you can't get better than that!

Well I am back with a 6+ month review. This vehicle still gets very poor gas mileage. 15.673 per gallon to be exact (calculated by taking current mileage and dividing by gallons used to fill tank ---- 40 times). It still has a horrible tendency to down shift like a 67 Chevelle station wagon. Baaaaam! Is the best way to describe it. Sometimes bad enough to think you have been rear-ended. This is my third Jeep. And my last. Steer clear of Jeeps. That are not what they once were.

I was so happy when I first purchased my Cherokee. Brand new off the lot, it was shortly after I started having problems. Tranny, rack & pinion, etc... The dealer, no matter which one I took it to was so bad I had to start taking it to a paid mechanic who himself states he sees too many of these in the shop. After I had my baby I had a terrible time with his car seat and the back. I was so disappointed as this is supposed to be a family car. NO! I don't even feel safe with him in the car now... its having back electrical problems causing interior lights to flash, no starts and weird smells. I am DONE WITH THIS THING! I have lost nearly double what this originally cost and won't get it back.

Take a Closer Look at the Grand Cherokee

The Grand Cherokee is a fun vehicle to drive. In reading some of the professional reviews, I was skeptical until I actually drove the Jeep. It has a 4.7 V8, which has plenty of power, and we have found it to be a very comfortable vehicle. The interior has plenty of room and everything is conveniently located. Ours is "optioned" up pretty good and has the Quadra Drive II. Overall, I would highly recommend the Grand Cherokee to anyone looking for a fun, mid-size SUV.

Have owned a Cherokee, Wrangler, and driven the Libertys. If you took the Jeep logo off the steering wheel, I would think I was driving a higher priced SUV! Jeep has finally gotten something going here. Drove a 2004, thought it was nice, but the 2005 is a dramatic increase in ride quality, handling and performance. The 6 is nice, with decent fuel economy (better then my Wrangler was). The Laredo is a nice package, have turned many heads with it. No more cheap plastic on the bottom on the body. Jeep has added many luxury features that enhance the experience.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 330hp hemi engine is an absolute blast. Although it's difficult to pass a gas station without stopping to top up. If you can ignore the horrendous gas mileage it's great fun to drive. What caught my eye initially was the new aggressive styling. After an inordinate period of time researching and test driving, the Jeep won hands down. The drive is smooth and comfortable and the acceleration is a rush. It offers far more bang for the buck than BMW or Infinity with all the creature comforts and then some. Perfect for us 60+ guys.

I love my Jeep, but I can't give the company any further business. Warranty repairs that charge a deductible, parts that wear out in less than two years (and AREN'T covered under warranty), and a customer service agent who told me that she didn't need my business. Just noticed that there were ZERO Chrysler products (including Jeep) were recommended by Consumer Reports: I'm buying a new vehicle in the next three months and it (sadly) can't be a Jeep.

This car is amazing... when it's working right. I've had so many problems, cracked axle (seriously), new tires at like 50,000 miles, transmission computer glitches, had to replace the stereo system, new shocks, and now the instrument cluster is the latest. I've put way more money into this car than it ever was worth. And I love it, taking it off road was awesome, but I was always freaked out that something would happen to it, almost too much to enjoy it. Honestly I can't wait to trade it in for something more reliable.

My husband had a 1999 Jeep and gave it to his mother - still running at 250K miles. Thought we could go for the 5.7 HEMI new in 06 (it was leftover 05 inventory) but I am willing to take any loss to get rid of it now. My battery has died constantly since Feb 2007, 10 months into ownership with less than 12,000 miles. Had the battery replaced twice (at $220 ea - not covered under warranty and no option to get anywhere but the dealer!!), replaced the alternator, replaced defective sunroof motor that was drawing power, repaired an AC leak, replaced the starter and now having the powertrain control module replaced while I am 300 miles away from home and stuck having to get it towed! NO MORE!

I bought a 05 Grand Cherokee after driving a 04 4Runner Sport v8. I have to say that I like the options that you can get on the Laredo. The auto stick was the best thing that ever happened to the SUV buyers. It does wonderful on and off road and awesome when needing to pick up speed. And comes in very handy when driving in snowy weather. Gives you control of your SUV. I have never had problems with the engine light, but then I never let my gas run down to the reserve. Anyone knows that if you do that and it gets lower - the light will come on. Had an adjustment for the transmission in shop once - it needed a supplement fluid put in transmission for the auto stick use. I have never had any problems since.

This is my first Grand Cherokee, and I have not been overly impressed. The build is very good, not one rattle or squeak, however the transmission is very slow to change gears when you need to down shift. The 3.7l V6 has adequate power but would be nice if it had about 20 more horses. During the first 6 months, it spent a week in the shop due to check engine light, had to replace fuel rail and air conditioner compressor. Fuel mileage is about 23mpg on the highway, not bad for this size vehicle. Back seat is cramped for adults. Standard radio fair, should have upgraded to better unit. Not sure I would consider this vehicle again. Weak transmission.

We just purchased a 2005 Grand Cherokee Rocky Mountain Edition. For those unfamiliar with this package -- it's built off the Laredo package but adds some cool stuff for a pretty low cost to the consumer. Ours has leather heated seats, adjustable foot pedals, a trailer hitch, special Jeep leather seats with Jeep logo, a CD player with Boston Acoustics sound and Sirius satellite provided free for one year, as well as an upgraded rim and off road all season tires and chrome badging to replace the plastic pieces. Ours also has the available 4.7 V8 - which I highly recommend. We had a '93, '96, '99 Laredo and a '02 Limited. The Limited was our favorite but the sticker price was not.

Worst automobile I have ever owned. So many problems ranging from axle isolators (second repair)to interior parts such as door panels (all of them) breaking, vent tabs falling off, nav system inoperative (2nd unit), window switches inop on driver door, front driveshaft replaced, brake calipers froze up, Try replacing a starter as you will need to grow two additional hands to help. Can't say much good about this automobile. Even the resale value stinks.

Overall a very nice SUV. 3500 miles so far and no problems or issues. Good power and sweeet sound from the 4.7 V8. Very nice daily driver if you don't mind pulling up to the gas pump a bit more often. Very linear steering tracking, no wander or stray. Brakes are strong and progressive. Fairly low wind noise even with large side mirrors. Much nicer ride/drive/handling than previous GC, though can be a bit floaty over certain bumps. Excellent headlight throw and pattern at night, both low/high beam. People compliment the new style. Seats firm yet comfortable once you get settled in. Controls laid out well, easy to see/reach. Nice optional sound system.

I have owned the last three Jeep Grand Cherokee's and can say with personal experience that the 2005 Grand Cherokee has taken the brand to new heights. So far I'm averaging 19 mpg mixed driving which is pretty darn good. Overall I really like the '05 and really feel I got a lot of value for the money. A Japanese SUV comparably equipped would have cost considerably more.

I received my jeep as a Christmas present. It has been amazing! I had so many problems with getting my other cars stuck in the snow. It was a major relief to get my jeep. I never got stuck again! However, my jeep has a very inconvenient problem. Sometime when I drive it the transmission will not shift. I have to pull over and turn off the vehicle, but then it works just fine! Also, the tire pressure light comes on randomly and makes a dinging noise. I like how my jeep heats up fast and the heated seats work wonderful.

I traded in my 2004 Subaru WRX for this vehicle because it was more practical. I have to say that I am very impressed with the Jeep. The engine has substantial power, there is ample cabin space and she handles extremely well for a truck her size. The exterior of the Jeep is beautiful. I have the metallic black model with the black grill and the black side moldings and it is very sharp. People stare at her all the time. I even stare it her all the time. The vehicle is excellent and I highly recommend the Grand Cherokee to anyone who is in the market for an SUV.

Jeep has long been the best when it came to SUV's, and the new 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is no different. With a great new look and some cool interior accents, I love it. I have the base 3.7 V6 which performs just fine for my use and provides great fuel mileage (25.6 MPG highway). I would have liked the Hemi of course, but there are some things in life that we must give up. Everyone I have talked to and showed it too comments on how nice it is. I have the Light Khaki with Khaki interior and it's a great color on the Jeeps.

The new driver's side hand grip sticks out way too far-- it's a driving hazard. The sound system is way too complicated and not much bang for the buck. I LOVE the off-road handling which is why we bought it. The Hemi engine is great but the pain at the gas pump really hurts -- couldn't it get better mileage? I find the comfort and seeing/views from the drivers' side to be much worse than our previous SUVs -- '93 and '03 Ford Explorers. But out in the desert? Stay outta my way!

WE bought it just to tow our camper! We added a tow bar to tow our camper and have made seven trips so far. Even with the 6cyl 3.7, it pulls and rides like a charm! Just recently we have had to have the drivers door seal replaced due to it protruding out a little far when you enter the drivers seat. The back seat leg room is tight for an adult, but is good for kids.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is a wonderful all around vehicle with luxury and usefulness. You can seat 5 or more comfortably. It is great for road trips and also serves as vehicle to move items. The luxury of the Grand Cherokee Limited is by far a huge plus with heated seats, 10 CD disc changer, awesome sound system, and a memory chip to remember two different drivers seat, radio, and mirror settings. The Jeep is also a very safe feeling vehicle which was a number one priority when buying after I flipped a Toyota T-100 3 times on highway 280 in San Francisco. The Grand Cherokee brings together safety, usefulness, luxury, affordability, style, and dependability all under one roof.

bought this vehicle Jan 09, with 17000 miles on it and thought I had purchased a good vehicle. have owner several jeeps before without problems , all being wranglers so I would consider myself a loyal Jeep owner. The transmission light on the dash has came off and on several times but has never acted or done anything weird and went out. Just prior to reaching 22,000 miles the transmission just died. I could manually shift in 1st 2nd and reverse and thats it. just took it to the dealer and they have to rebuild it. as I was looking through these posts I think this wont be the last time either. DON'T buy this vehicle. If the trany drops after 22,000 miles I cant wait to see what else will happen

I always wanted a jeep and never have heard of such problems with one. I bought it at 36 thousand miles and problems started within a week. The first 6 months i spent in the shop getting things fixed under warranty, and 2 years later have spend my own money to fix it. I would not recommend buying one unless u have it thoroughly checked first!

The gas mileage is poor (I had the 4.7l in my previous one, which got 2 mpg better); head clearance is awful if you're 5'9" or above, and to make matters worse they removed the 6-way power seat and put in a 4-way so that you can't lower the seat height. The four wheel drive is suspect (I have gotten it stuck twice already). Jeep has sacrificed little comforts also such as removing the sun visor extensions which is annoying, but that "trail rated" badge sure is nifty. Forget changing your own oil, or doing other "minor repairs" unless you have a garage with a lift, and a degree from MIT. Somewhere jeep has lost its identity to the soccer moms. Good luck.

Bought vehicle for wife and family, before family grew too big. Wife loved the car. Drove great on the highway. No reliability issues while we owned the vehicle.

This is my third Jeep and it is the best ever. The ride is smooth and handling is great. I travel at lot as the result of my job and I feel very safe in this SUV. Also the features added to this year's model make it very appealing to women. Very comfortable on long tips.

Transmission is slow to engage at times, acts like it is slipping, you gas it and it free revs, exhaust manifold leak, limp mood is triggered sometimes by transmission issue resets to 3rd gear and is very slow, battery already went bad 3 years old (special expensive battery needed), surging at idle, dealership services, they have only fixed the manifold, numerous attempts by dealership but have never fixed. They could never get it to do it and the service manager would never return my messages. Had differential fluid changed and they charged me an extra $60.00 to just shut off the light. Planning on taking some where else to fix.

So I will say that I always absolutely loved the grand cherokees until I got to drive one; the quality is horrible. I went to test drive a beautiful black 05 4x4. For the first 5 minutes of the test drive, I was in love. The car was cool and looked good from the outside and the interior was nicely appointed. Then when I stopped at a traffic light, all of a sudden, the certified pre-owned truck died and had to be towed. We went back to the lot and I picked out another one and this other one wouldn't start. At this time I decided to leave and forget about buying a Jeep at all. Again, these were 2 certified pre-owned jeeps with less than 30,000 miles that broke down while I was trying to buy

I traded in a Range Rover for my Grand Cherokee (5.7 Hemi engine). Rovers are good but very high maintenance, and too many mechanical problems. My Jeep is very reliable, and the upgrades make it a pleasure to drive. I feel safe and at the same time enjoy driving my vehicle. I have owned two Rovers, and this is my third Jeep. I will never go back to the overpriced Rover with all the maintenance headaches. Jeep off-road performance is excellent, and like most 4x4's, it depends on off-road driver knowledge to fully appreciate its ability. I am as proud driving my Jeep on the highways as I was with the "prestigious" Range Rover. I receive as many compliments on my Jeep as I did with my Rover.

Finally, a change from the bulbous shape of the old JGC! The SUV looks sharp, with short overhangs, nimble, and athletic. It really does look like it can go anywhere, and through anything, unlike its behemoth competitors. I've looked into the new Frontier, Pathfinder, and 4Runner. Chevy TrailBlazer and Nissan Armada are too big to be considered SUV's, maybe just UV's. Compared to the Jeep, all of them are awful on highway. Off-road, these 3 are quite competent, but, if you're like me, you spend 5 days out of 7 on asphalt. The NHTSA's crash-test results 3 weeks ago gave the Grand Cherokee an all-around "excellent" rating, and for the price, no other manufacturer can come close.

I love this car! We had an Isuzu before this. It was great, but not enough guts to tow anything. We also have a CJ5 & 2003 Wrangler now.
