I bought the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5 years ago with 175,000 miles on it and now 5 years later it now has 241,000 miles on it!! It’s still going!! No check engine light, no issues, just keep up with regular maintenance and this thing will literally last forever. Absolute beast in all New England weather. I am literally going to drive it until it goes in the ground. The straight 6 bullet proof engine is what they tell you. I have only good things to say about this vehicle!

This Jeep left me wanting a car!

I bought this vehicle in 2006 with 40,000 miles on it. Still looked and drove like a new vehicle for the first year and my husband is a fanatic about regular maintenance and upkeep. On four different occasions, this Jeep just quit with no warning and I had to have it towed to a garage. Four garages and six well-established mechanics and they still never found the problem. They all say it's something electrical (perhaps a short) that they cannot find--even with diagnostic tools. Now, the cooling fan went out (another electric issue) and I can't drive it less than 20 mph without it overheating. BOTH front automatic window mechanism have also busted and had to be replaced at $300 each.

I bought what I thought was going to be a good looking reliable vehicle. I had a Chevy Caprice for over 13 years and was looking to find something I would love as much. I looks HOT! But looks are deceiving. It is '03 and still looks brand new even without a good car wash. BUT... The piece of junk has spent more time in the shop than any vehicle in earth history except maybe another Jeep Grand Cherokee. Seat Heater, Brake rotors, 5 complete sets of brakes and rotors. Shimmies really bad after about 6 months of new brakes. The heater sensor something , air conditioning lvr things, cruise control, battery goes dead, electrical shorts but nobody can tell me why. Would not sell to my worst enemy.

Stuck With a Lemon

This car was just unreliable. Within in one year the car started overheating. If it wasn't the radiator fan it was the relay. Twice udner warranty, and 3 other times out warranty. Was pricy to fix, but no one could figure out why it kept happening. 3 of the windows fell, one twice. Tail lights also crapped out. Radio went out once too. The tranny started giving me trouble so I got rid of the car. I had a problem with first gear, as the car only wanted to go take off in second gear. I let it go before I had to drop more money into it. It was a lemon but didn't fall under the definition of lemon.

I have always wanted a Jeep and was extremely excited when I purchased this one. However, after 2 years the problems just aren't worth it anymore. 500 miles after the factory warranty expired my vehicle began leaking from behind the dash. It leaks so bad it pools. I've tried to have it fixed 5 times and nobody can seem to fix it. The moisture behind the dash is causing all kinds of other problems..including freezing dials and air vents when it is cold. The window mechanism broke on my passenger side and cost a ton to replace. The check engine light is always coming on - emissions leaks, bad battery, bad sensors. I've replaced the brakes and the rotors. Okay that happens but I'm done trying

This is my 4th Jeep product (2 Wranglers and a 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited V8). The Overland is very powerful and the 4WD is great in rain and snow. I love the chrome wheels. The stereo in the '98 Limited was better. Gas mileage is not that bad -- about 15.5 mpg with mixed highway and local travel. Closer to 19 mpg during extended highway driving. My only complaint is the front seats. The leather suede mix is nice, but the seats are not firm enough and too small. The vehicle has some body roll when cornering and the soft seats contribute to a feeling of poor handling.

Bought this car new. Is beautiful, drives great, has great power. Regarding the car, the heat/cool dampers went out at 38K and it cost $ 800.00. A couple of engine sensors failed (while on vacation) at a cost of $ 600.00. Now it is in the shop due to rust-through on the rear wheel wells. No more Dodge/Chrysler/Jeeps for us.

I have had my 03 GC Laredo for about 3 and 1/2 years, and I love it every second. I blame the Jeep for 1 incident... The coolant sensor went, which left the coolant fan running after I shut the car off. I came out the next morning to a dead battery. I have also fixed the front 2 power windows, but I cant blame the Jeep. I locked my keys inside and tried a jimmy, but I think I messed something up. I also need to fix the power seat switch. It works in all directions, except backwards. Again, I think it has something to do with the snow I had to scoop out of the inside of the car when the window was broken in the down position during winter. I love my Jeep!

All A++++++ marks for this car. I am so pleased, and have received an endless flood of compliments. It has all the features, amenities, and comfort of a luxury "SUV", for $10K less, and the REAL capability to go hardcore off- road. On a side note, I really wanted to mention that if you live in Southern California, avoid Glendale Star Chrylser Jeep. 90% of their staff is the epitome of the sleazy, heartless car salseman. The one guy who wasn't had only worked their for a week! Hate hate hate the dealership, love love love the car.

OK, the Jeep looks fantastic, drives solid, stable and lots of power, there's plenty of options, just a sound design, could get better mileage. But now that I've had it 7 years and 95,000 miles things are breaking. We've had the window fall off the mechanism, and the heavy shudder in the breaks but electrically, no issues and had a tow hitch added. But the AC system melted and was $1500 to repair. Now the steering box is out and another $1200. So yeah, I'd call this a higher than average vehicle to maintain cost wise.

Have owned this car since new (purchased 12/02) and overall it has been a very solid SUV. The car is extremely comfortable, offers plenty of room, and has great performance and handling in snow. At 130k miles, I have had only relatively minor issues including replacing the power window motor on both front doors and an issue with the cooling fan. Aside from that, the truck continues to drive and perform extremely well. Gas mileage has been average for this class at around 18 mpg. Well built, solid car, with some relatively minor electrical problems.

I never even considered a Jeep until this year. I been strictly a Chevy man driving Blazers and Tahoes. But a salesman at a Jeep dealer challenged me to just try one. I had already made up my mind a Grand Cherokee was junk. That is until I drove it. WOW!!! This Overland rode like a dream, handled very well and accelerated like a rocket. I thought the 5.7 vortec in my 'hoe was peppy. But the 4.7 high output v8 in this Overland blows it away. It'll be a long time before I ever buy another over priced, over rated, GM.

Our Jeep started bucking and becoming undriveable at 5000 miles. This is intermittent and has caused several delays on family trips. The manufacturer just says, "bad gas". They did extend our warranty to 70,000 miles, free. Big deal, the car is not reliable. They have yet to find the problem. We are going on three years of this. Tomorrow we go to "Lemon Law" court with the manufacturer. Wish us luck.

I just gave up my 1999 Dakota for a laredo with the 4.0 I had the 5.2 V8 in the dodge and to tell you the truth the 4.0 feels better and more powerful all around. If you compare starting prices with the trailblazer and envoy you will find you are getting more quality features for the money with the jeep, and lets be honest trailblazer has a nice name but i wouldn't dream of taking that off the highway- nobody beats a jeep prowless offroad

Then the little stuff started; bad locks and windows, rattles and squeeks...We got married...now its summer, she's pregnant, NO A/C... 4 trips to the dealer....still NO A/C...and they actually managed to undo a lock fix they did 6 weeks ago....Now, we are trying to get a loaner, wife is due soon, not sure when/if jeep will be fixed....

I've had the exact same issues as the post Jeep or Heap. In October, my '03 JCL stalled on the expressway while driving, which I lost the power steering. It would also shut down and power up like it was going to stall, while I was driving. I took it in to a mechanic, which they kept for 3 days because it couldn't be diagnosed unless it stalled on them so I took it home and of course, it stalled. So they picked it up were able to fix the problem. Unfortunately, it is now doing the same thing again. It bucks and seems to want to lose power but catches again. I'm paranoid to drive it for long distances. I also had a problem with the power window failing.

I bought this car and loved it for several months, until the engine started to give me problems. It stalled 3 times - the dealer "fixed" it, but I stalled 2 more times, this time in the middle of traffic. The dealership had my car for two weeks and found nothing wrong with it. Now I have to get another car, even though I've had this for only 10 months. I'm very disappointed - I loved this car, but it is extremely unreliable, and the service i DID NOT receive from the dealership was terrible. All 3 local dealerships are terrible - I will most likely never get another Jeep. The Carfax report I paid for said nothing was wrong with that - I blame that on the dealership i bought it from!

This was my first significant buy when it comes to an SUV and it was the BIGGEST mistake I could have made. I have owned the Jeep for 29 days and it has made 4 trips to the repair shop! Many difficulties with it not starting up, but just cranking and cranking. The shifting from Park to either Reverse or Drive is a real hard shift and makes me wonder if there are problems with the design with the transmission. The reliability for Jeep is garbage! I use to own a Jeep Wrangler and I was a die hard fan of Jeep…not so much anymore. I am taking mine back and buying a Nissan Xterra. Read all the other reviews and you too will see there are many problems. BEWARE!!

My experiences with Jeep Grand Cherokees have been good ones. Before buying the 2003 model, I compared the features of the Grand Cherokee with other SUV's in it's class. The Jeep had many more features and nicer interior/exterior for the money compared with other SUV's the same size. In my opinion, the ride is smooth, reliability is good, passenger space is excellent. The 2003 model has a bigger storage space than the older models. This is my second Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I'm very pleased with both models.

It started w/the Rotors from the day I drove it off the lot.I've blocked it out of mind just how money I spent & the RUN AROUND from the dealership & the corporate. I fixed the rotors (later recalled). When I called corporate they told me it was too late, I'd fixed them. What was I supposed to do, be killed or kill someone else b/c of defective brakes and rotors. Next, the windows;first passenger side - 400.00+ to fix, then the drivers side & one in the back. The blinkers work sometimes & others they don't. The locks only work with the Key remote. I'm too poor to anything about it. I've started (too late) to take tag numbers of other similar jeeps. I have sweat dreams of a Class Action.

Before buying my 03 Grand Cherokee Overland, I did my research on SUV's at different websites. I have a special interest with Consumer Reports. They really do not like the Grand Cherokee. I was hesitant about buying one, but test drove the Overland and fell in love. The power in this SUV is awesome! I love the leather, features, and pretty much everything (except the gas mileage). Gas mileage sucks but pretty much all SUV's get sorry gas mileage. I am happy with my purchase, especially with CarMax in Stockbridge, GA. I would not buy from any other dealer!

My JO has not caused me any problems. I love my Jeep, but it seems like every third vehicle is a Jeep.I think a redesign is due, because my Jeep just does not turn heads. For $39000, I just want a little more WOW! I know that sounds shallow - but hey. My boyfriend just bought an H2. On the way home, I followed in my Jeep. Folks were constantly looking at his vehicle and didn't even notice the Jeep Overland. What takes the cake is .. a couple of neighborhood kids screamed nice truck to him, guess what I got.I know the H2 is something different and the "wow" will wear from that vehicle. But for now, I'm looking into the FX45.

Coming up on 2 year of ownership and still no problems. Normal mx and just replaced tires. Never added a drop of fluids between changes. I change my oil every 5000 miles and my Cherokee still runs like a top. Jeep did good when they built this one. Leather is still in great shape. All the bells and whistles still work as advertised. Just bought a Liberty for a tow vehicle for my motor home, hope it is as good as the Cherokee.

Have had the JGCL with HO V-8 for about five months. Zero defects in build quality--no faults so far, which is surprising. Very comfortable with no "climbing or crawling" required for entry/exit, important to someone with orthopedic problems. Front seats adjust to almost any desired position, and the heated seats are great--tho the high setting is definitely high. Great vehicle, with decent gas mileage using regular gas on the road at legal speeds, 'tho not so great in town. A "Keeper."

This is my 2nd Cherokee and my last. Mind you, this vehicle spends more time sitting in my garage than on the road. It has been babied all its life and looks like the day it came off the showroom floor. To date, the A/C has been replaced (all components), all the window regulators have failed, the brakes have warped rotors, it is noisy (wind) when driven at highway speeds, the A/C is not blowing cold again, the driver's power seat is broken, all the side mirrors have broken at least once, all the hydraulic lift supports have been replace several times, the clear coat is soft so anything that touches the paint leaves a mark. The list goes on and on.

This was the first vehicle I bought brand new. If I have ever had a vehicle nickel and dime me, it would be this one. Little things that aren't covered by the warranty. It started about 20K miles, with the brakes, and went downhill from there, rear axle, power steering, an electric window broke (in the winter), and CD player to name a few. If you don't mind the little fixes, go ahead and buy one. If you want a vehicle to stand by their warranty and is proud of their name. Don't go with any Chrysler. I love to drive this car, but I can't stand the "issues". I have never EVER put as much money into all of my cars combine, as I have put into this one.

This is my second Jeep Grand Cherokee and I am very happy with it. Would not rate is as high as a Toyota Highlander but close. I have had no trouble with my Jeep. Had a 1988 model that ran forever, 188000 miles and the only, thing other than regular mx, was one fuel injector went bad, (I fixed) and the alternator went out at 175000 miles and I fixed it myself, too. I could use bigger cup holders and better fuel economy, 16-18 in town and 20-22 on the highway. This is where Toyota has Jeep beat hands down. Plus the Toyota has better power and acceleration. All in all for what I paid I got a really pretty vehicle that is fun to drive and is practical for me. Great radio controls!!!

This is my first Jeep (previosuly had had two Rodeos that were okay). Especially enjoy the leather seats and 10-CD changer. We drove from Okla to LA in December and the drive was great and gas mileage 19 to 20, which was as good as the Rodeos. Had to have a rear-end leak checked in late January, but the dealer fixed the problem immediately. Already have 6,000 miles and couldn't be happier.

2003 Jeep Overland -My 2nd Jeep - 4000 miles later.....plastic trim falling off, glass chipped on both side windows when delivered, engine performance at highway speeds poor , gas mileage terrible, build quality worse. Handles like a boat. For $39,000 I expected more Should have purchased a laredo 6 cyl for a little more than 1/2 price of this Overland. Won't buy another one.

GREAT RIDE

I've had my new Jeep for about 2 months, and I been nothing but impressed. The jeep is so solid, its like driving a tank and a cloud at the same time. The fold down seats provide for alot of room, it rides great but the gas mileage leaves something to be desired. Also, a minor problem. On the bottom of the car under the passenger side, there is a bit of paint missing, and is beginning to rust, you wouldn't know unless you bent down to look at it. im sure it'll be fix w/o a problem.

Nice exterior and Interior designs. Currently with a very competitive price. Poor reliability; after 30.000 it has been necessary to go to service several times to repair brakes, steering wheel (column) and other features repeatedly. Poor brakes.

We bought this car used with 24k and it had no problems whatsoever, but after the 15 day return of the vehicle we have had nothing but trouble ever since. It has been to the dealer more than 3 times. It shakes really bad when you drive it and the air will not work unless it is on lo of you put it any higher the car will break down. The check engine light is constantly on and has been reset. We have owned a jeep before and just had a few problems with it but I would not recommend any type of jeep to anyone. With all the money we have spent on parts it should work just fine even though it has 80,000 on it. Every time it goes to the dealer there is always something with it. So don't buy one.

This is my second Grand Cherokee, and I love it just as much as the first one. Its a beautiful car that rides very smooth, and has a very luxurious feel to it. My transmission went out on my 95' at 85,000 and I already took my new one in for a transmission recall at 500 miles. The trans is the only complaint I have with Jeep. Would buy another one for sure.

Great leather interior, all time 4wd provides great grip on road or off. Acceleration could be better, but I would have to pay for the acceleration of a larger motor at the gas pump. The 4.0 is good for me.

I absolutely love my Jeep. I got a dark blue Grand Cherokee Laredo and it is very nice inside and out. I was very skeptical about Jeep from what others have said, but mine is very reliable, pretty good on gas, and a comfortable, but fun ride. The stereo is nice sounding, and the seats are a very nice, comfortable cloth. I really love mine and looking forward to trying out the 4x4 in the future. I was honestly surprised by how well mine is with gas. I drive a fair amount and my gas is barely gone. I definitely recommend the car overall.

The vehicle has refinement where other SUVs dont. I hear some people say that other SUVs in it's class have a better ride. The only thing that can be said to this is, when you are in a ice storm, rain storm, snow or a hurricane, it's nice to know you are in a jeep. Try clearing road hazards in a vehicle like the Explorer when you only have 6 inches of ground clearence. Jeep has greatly improved it's reliability in the last three years. Consumer Reports rates it well from 2000 on.
