Great car - if You Like Working on Cars
I want to first start off by saying that I’ve enjoyed owning this vehicle. One of the last jeeps with the 4.0 engine and the last Cherokee with solid axle tech. This engine has proven to be bullet proof and is still running strong at 190,000 miles, coupled with the semi reliable 42re transmission that hasn’t had any issues (yet). In my opinion, it’s the only grand Cherokee that I’d ever buy. HOWEVER, it hasn’t been without its fair share of issues. PROS: This is a great all around car. It rides incredibly smooth and is extremely capable off road, especially when modified. the 4.0 liter, inline 6 engine, can last forever when properly maintained. I can’t speak for the 4.7L V8, though. Nowadays You can pick up one of these grand cherokees for dirt cheap and have something that’s pretty capable off road. It’s the perfect car for getting dirty and not caring much. CONS: I will say that I bought this car knowing that it would be a fixer-upper. Since owning it, it’s needed window regulators, a water pump, a fuel pump, a rear main seal, tie rods and various miscellaneous suspension parts. However since I work on the car myself these have been relatively inexpensive and a great learning experience. These are all normal parts that need replacing as the car ages. CONCLUSION: I’m not sure how much life it has left, but I’m proud that this car has made it this far. These are excellent budget cars to tinker with and off road on the weekends. However don’t be surprised when little things start to break. Jeep (Chrysler) certainly doesn’t make them like they used to.

Fully Satisfied Jeep Grand Cherokee Owner
Watch out for the flawed power window cable attachments, they are plastic and will break too soon. Also, watch out for design flaw engine problems with V8's from Chrysler especially around the valve seats coming loose and oil sludge build-up in smallest diameter via holes that kills certain parts of the engine from oil deprivation. Try heavy degreasing flush of engine every 20,000 miles or so.

Luv my jeep
I've had my Jeep 4.5 years, and have loved it. I'm looking at the '06 (I want a nav system among other things). It's a comfy ride -- not marshmallow soft, comfy enough, and it's great when I drive out in the hills/mountains. I have great confidence in the power and handling. Love my Jeep !
Awesome truck
I just bought this truck......I was a little aprehensive with the negative relaibility reviews, but with 0% financing and getting the truck for $3200 off sticker, I couldnt pass it up. I compared it to the 4runner, pathfinder and the durango. The cherokee has many more options for the money. The truck rides great and I love it....!!!!!
Keep Trying Chrysler/ Jeep
For a $30k+ vehicle, the Grand Cherokee is more trouble than it is worth. 4 recalls, 2 rear diffs. later and only 10k miles. I should have bought an MDX!
