Used 2006 Jeep Commander Consumer Reviews
All is great except fuel capacity
My first 4-wheel drive vehicle was the 1976 Scout Traveler. Since then I've had Explorers/Mountaineers. The Commander was a return to the Jeep style. Best riding SUV I've ever owned. I bought the 5.76 Hemi used with 4,000 miles on it. Huge design flaw is the small gas tank. I can't drive 326 miles to my home on Cape Cod without having to stop for refueling. My Mountaineers always made it with gas to spare. Going to 4 cylinder when highway traveling is a nice idea, but it saves very little fuel. Price of gas makes this car a non-purchase. HOWEVER, fuel efficiency and capacity aside, its a great vehicle.
drives like butter
I test drove this on a fluke. Went to try out Patriot as price was more in my range. I drove the Wrangler Unlimited, too rough. Then I got in this Commander and I could NOT stop thinking about it. It has a great vintage box shape and great design. Interior is nice, sturdy, simple, not tons of nasty plastic. I tried the FJ Cruiser, as it got good reviews and it managed the road, ice, snow and rain well. But it rode like the Wrangler. Rough and sophomoric and unsophisticated. Could not be happier with the Commander. It has managed brilliantly in the worst winter weather yet in CT. I feel SAFE in it. I got mine at a great discount as it was a 2006. LOVE IT.

My Billboard
Not that you would, but don't buy this SUV for the third row or fuel economy. You will buy it for power and styling, well at least that is what I bought it for. I advertise my business on it and it has a great shape for this purpose. At least the 5.7 can still run fine on regular unleaded.
All rolled into one...
It has styling cues from the Jeeps of old, luxury interior that share parts with Mercedes Benzs, great ride and comfort features. It's trail rated and can tow almost as much as my Dodge Ram. It has a presence when you go somewhere fancy and strength when you go off-road. It will tow my old Jeep, carry 5 adults in comfort and still have room for some cargo. And to top it all off it's more manuverable than a lot of bigger SUV's out there. Parking is never a problem anymore and its features help in backing out.
Great Vehicle - Glad I bought it
Let somebody else pay for the depreciation. When my $40K plus Chevy Avalanche was totalled by an 18 yr old slamming into my wife, I knew I wanted another 4x4. A new Avalanche was simply too expensive. After trading my 'interim' used car, I found the 2006 Commander (certified Pre-Owned)at a local dealer. Getting it was a very smart decision. Very comfortable, gas mileage for the 3.7 liter is exactly as stated. Power is good. Design is great. I don't tow anything, and filling the SUV with 6 people proved no problem. Having the base model (doesn't mean stripped) gives me a clean pallet to customize without the huge new car or dealer premiums. I love this thing.
