Happy with 95 Cherokee
In the years I've owned this vehicle it has seen every type of terrain and weather. It has towed a 4000 lb boat everywhere. It holds kids pets and luggage with ease. It has yet to ever get stuck or have difficulty. The 4.0 engine is more than enough power. It's a shame they don't make vehicles like this anymore
Work Horse
This is the 5th Cherokee I've had. I pulled this one out of a swamp, 3 feet of muddy water, left there for about 6 months. Had about 5 gallons of water in the engine. Engine was stuck. Unstuck the motor with PB Blaster and patience, replaced ALL the relays, alternator, starter, radiator, numerous other stuff. Runs like a champ now. No smoke, no knocks, very powerful and spiffy, the way they should be. Only problem now seems to be the speed sensor, it's not shifting down properly and check engine light is on. Will fix this week. Oh, btw, the AC is ICE cold!

the best jeep 4.0L
I have my 4.0L auto 4x4 jeep for 10 years. Its one of the Best rig I ever owned!! It's now old and little paint fade and some use..but this Jeep is great!! Bought it at 79k miles on it It now has 257k miles on it and not one problem... Just normal ware, keep the maintenance up top...never over heats.. And all ways..All Ways starts! Drive from the Bay Area to Tahoe and Oregon and Nevada...now working in Texas...it just keeps going n going.. Not the best front seats...Americans can't make a great seat...??? But with my yakama racks and station wagon like back end...it's a great 4x4 for way out...camping or exploring rig. I love this SUV I did some light mod on porformance for engine and gain horsepower and even a little Real..time MPG to..like on freeway 2-3 gain in miles per gallon. It has one of the Best inline 6 engines and very Very..reliable period. even when station in the middle east...and Europe I've own 2 of these 4.0L cherokee, it's the REAL best SUV 4x4 in the world.

Peppy performer
Does a variety of things well,off-road lousy weather, haul stuff. Appreciate the get up and go. Have had some repair work done, breaks(constantly), radiator and various sensors. Overall satisfied considering how hard I abuse it sometimes.
my 1st.4x4
I like my jeep cherokee for its low maintainence costs and reliability, however, its a very tireing vehicle on long trips. It handles very well in adverse weather conditions.I now have 126000 mi. and still going strong. It has been serviced as specified in the owners manual. This is only my second set of tires.Never had a front end problem or any major repairs. Back seats hard to manage for older people, also not a smooth riding vehicle Never did any off road driving with this car..
If they still made these, I would BUY 1
It is with great sadness that I have finally, after over a decade and some 185k miles, come to realize that my Country has finally reached the point of economic infeasibility. Bought gently used in '98 (only 28k mi in 3 yrs, car was spotless throughout, thank you 1st owner). Car was very reliable over the first 10 years of ownership. It is only now that it is beginning to fall apart. Engine, Tranny still original and still doing just fine, which is huge. I'd say the cooling system was the only component that was less reliable than you'd want. Everything else exceeded expectations.
Best vehicle I have owned
Bought new in 11/94. Have owned ever since. 5 speed 4.0 . Have 312,000 miles. Has been every where I needed to go. It is in need of some repairs. Should after 26_years. Original clutch. Great rig. Cheap to fix. Front seats do break. Find Grand Cherokee seats and you are good.

'95 Jeep Country
Great fun vehicle for on or off road. Great pulling power for size
Too bad they stopped making these...
I bought this 4D 4WD Cherokee Sport used with 50K miles on it in 1999. I now have 120K miles and it is still going strong. I have had no problems with it, other than routine maintenance (tires, brakes, battery). I tow a 2000 lb popup with this about 2000 miles per year with no problems. This is a superb all-around vehicle. I would recommend anyone looking for a good SUV this winter to go find a used Cherokee Sport and grab a high mileage one from a private owner for a bargain. Save the dealer markup and warranty money, because you can beat these things without any negligible affect. Buying from a private party should be low-risk.
300,000 And Still Chugging Alone!
Own a Black 1995 Jeep Cherokee, Two Door, 2WD with the 5 Speed Manual Transmission. Absolutely fantastic of a truck! Been a California vehicle since day one. Love every minute driving in it, love putting every mile on it. Fun to drive, no major repairs, do yoursef a favor if you buy one...Don't be a jerk and not do any expensive repairs, Because these things DO LAST. If you take care of your Jeep, Your Jeep will take care of you. It's a fact in Jeep's world. *ITS A JEEP THING*
cheap drive train
We were so lucky that we purchased an extended warranty because with 74,500 miles on the car (500 on the warranty) the transfer case broke. Apparently, Jeep used a cheaper metal for a few years to save some $; transfer case problems are quite common for this year.
Some things you love like to bite you
I had this vehicle for a little more than 4 years. I loved to drive it, although gas was a bit less back then. I had to break down and trade because, first the door nearly fell off, I had 2 oil leaks that were fairly costly ($500 total) the hatch leaked so badly that it would pour the rain inside. I would probably get an average of 19-21 +- mpg. I would have liked a heads up before I bought it.
good jeep
I bought my 1995 Jeep Cherokee from my boyfriend a couple of years ago, after he had it for about 3 years. It currently has 237000 miles and still running strong. We have had to replace minor tings along the way, such as, battery, hoses, maybe the water pump (cant remember for sure because Ive had a lot of jeeps!). It leaks a little bit of oil, but I could get that fixed, I just havent yet. Everyday I get in to ride, I wonder how it is still holding on, but the engine is STRONG! Never had ANY transmission problems, shifts fine! My car does have body damage that I have chose not to fix, but that does not affect the way she drives so Im fine with it!
Not for Teens
My 17 yr son rolled this vehicle, He was unharmed which is probably a plus from that stand point. The body of the vehicle held up even though it was unrepairable. In my opinion, the short turning radius, power, and top heavy nature of this vehicle require above average driving skills to be safe. I am sure most SUV's fit this category. I still want another one. I also had a 1991 Explorer that was much more comfortable and quiter, but not nearly as fun to drive as the jeep. The jeep was better off road and was lighter. Jeep was Better on the beach. Pick the jeep for fun & recreation, but get something else for trips if you are over 40
Best Jeep EVER!
These are the best Jeeps that Jeep ever made hands down! My Cherokee now has 416,000 miles on it and the only parts it's needed are a CPS (crank position sensor), Neutral switch for the tranny, 2 alternators and a rebuild for the transfer case because of some leaks. It only fussed about starting one time because the CPS was going bad, but it did start. I've been on top of the maintenance from day one, fluid changes and such.
Love/Hate
Bought this XJ before my student teaching semester in college at 180xxx mi. Perfect for hauling all kinds of teaching junk and made a 30 mile round trip commute daily with no problems. Since I bought it, I've replaced the rear brakes, water pump, thermostat, spark plugs, and a block expansion plug. All work was done by me as this is the easiest vehicle to fix ever! Parts are cheap and plentiful. It now has 213xxx miles on it and is still running ok. The suspension is saggy in the rear, but this is expected on a 15 year old vehicle. Underbody rust is about to send it to the scrap yard, but I will drive it till it does.
I Can't live without my JEEP!
When I first bought my Jeep, I was so happy and knew that this was the ride for me. I bought it with 22 inch wheels on it. I took them off and put factory on it. I have drove in mud, snow, sleet and the thing still runs like a PRO. I did tear up the differential and I had to replace the U-Joints twice. I have a few leaks and the brakes stink. The body needs paint. But other then that, the Jeep is strong tough and will pull anything. I would buy two or three more if I had the money. But I love my Jeep Cherokee sport, there is no Jeep out there like it. They should keep making Jeep Sports.
95 Jeep SE 4D 4WD has been very reliable
170,000 miles. The only non-routine maintenance problem was a sheared engine mount bolt at about 120,000 miles. There have otherwise been no mechanical problems. Not even the clutch has failed.
Fun while it lasted
I bought this car used right out of college with only 60,000 miles on it (have owned it three years). Was great fun to drive and I liked that it was a car with personality but unfortunatly it kept on breaking down. I sunk just as much money into repairs (door fell off, other door was falling off, leaked oil, cracked everything, yada yada). Finally it just broke down on me and I am forced to get a new car as this one just is not worth it. Was a good, fun cheap car while it lasted but I would not recommend buying it today to anyone.
Really Fun Car
The car is an over all fun car but lacks on the fuel economy. if you just drive to and from work it is good but driving around all the time not a very good car.
95' Jeep Cherokee owner review
Ive owned it for a little over a year and love it.
JEEP
IT RUN OK BUT I WILL NEVER EVER SEND ANYONE TO THAT DEALER SHIP.
First SUV
This truck was my first car and I still have it 7 years later. I feel safe and comfortable in my Jeep. In hot and sunny AZ, it is as good as when I bought it. All I have had to do is the usuall tires, brake check and battery. I would definetly recommend Jeep to anyone, but the aren't made anymore!
95
140,000 miles and only a few problems. An engine mount broke. Easy to find parts and fun to soop up. 3 inch lift kit runs about $300. The back seats can be removed or folded down for additional room. Does good in mud and on snow.
Great Car
This was my first car and was purchased from a family friend about two years ago. It is extremely low maintenance so far, with the exception of the gas! I get about 15 mpg but lately it seems much lower. However, despite the $3.50 gas prices and my very low income, I refuse to buy anything but a Jeep Cherokee and I wish that they didn't stop making them. This car is extremely fun to drive, very roomy, excellent trunk space. I have had no problems with this 11 year old car except to replace the rear brake line in the winter of 2004 because I had been driving over so many snow banks and created a leak in it. Besides that I plan to use this car for as long as I can. I'm up to 112,000 miles and going strong!
Rock Solid
Bought my Cherokee from my Father with 50000mi I now have 106000mi and She's still running strong! Great off road vehicle! only real problem was a leaking rear main seal, has never let me down! Wish they hadn't quit making them! I plan on keeping Her a long time
Goes the distance
My Cherokee has 181,000 miles on it and has been one of the very best vehicles I have ever owned. Besides regular oil changes and tires it has had 3 front brake jobs, 1 rear brake job, replaced the airconditioning condensor and radiator, 2 exhaust systems, 1 set of front axel universal joints and a couple of batteries. You couldn't ask for better. It handles great, is just super in bad weather with the 4WD and has never let me down.
Solid
I bought my jeep 2 years ago after having a variety of cars with power everything that were nothing but trouble and expensive to replace. My jeep has power nothing, and I love it. Nothing breaks, nothing squeaks or rattles. Every time I turn the key it fires right up. It hasn't let me down in the snow, rain, mud, or rocks. My only repairs in 25000 miles of driving have been new front discs and new tires (expected). Simple enough to make repairs by myself.
True utility and reliability
This has been my only car for 6 years, bought it in '99 with 60k on it, now it is nearing 150k. Never regretted the purchase. Driven across the country twice pulling a trailer. Survived 2 Boston winters. All problems have been minor (water pump, thermostat, radiator). Not the most luxurious vehicle, bumpy ride, but it cruises on the freeway and gets good mileage for an SUV with 4WD. Biggest problem was a broken lower mounting bolt. It had to be drilled and was fairly expensive. This happened around 95k. Also, there was a brake recall for cars sold in the Salt Belt, though since my car was originally sold in California the recall was not honored.
Fun Rig
My grandparents and I went 50/50 in buying the Cherokee Country. I'm 17 and got it last year for my first vehicle. I am absolutely in love with it. It gets me from point A to point B and I love the look and the comfort of it. I'm only 5'3" so I fit perfect inside it. It's fun to take off road and nice enough to take out for a night on the town. I was in love the minute I set my eyes on it.
170k and still going
Bought this Jeep in 1999 with 63k miles. I've put over 100k miles on it. It's been cross country twice, up and down the East coast and throughout the Southwest. It is very utilitarian, harsh over rough roads, but it handles better you would expect--very nimble. As it aged I replaced multiple water pumps, a radiator, wheel hubs, a starter--but overall it has been pretty resilient. Some creaks and rattles and the paint and some of the exterior bits are fading, but it always starts. Worst problems: oil leaks consistent and difficult to fix, driver door upper hinge broke off, lower engine mount broke around 90k miles.
I got a "Wednesday car"
Except for my '77 Camaro which lasted 15 years and over 100,000 miles, this is the best vehicle I've ever owned. What doesn't hurt is that my son is a master mechanic. He predicts it will last 250,000 miles. In 14 years I've only replaced a water cooler, an AC compressor, and an oil seal, and am on my 11-year old Bridgestone tires (another son). Had vent windows installed, which I consider a necessity. Except for a few parking lot scratches, it is in mint condition inside and out. Has factory radio with cassette player.
Only Jeep Owners Understand...
I bought my 1995 Jeep Cherokee in 1996 and have enjoyed every minute of it, from driving it, cleaning it, and admiring it while it is parked. I have only performed maintenance and due to a harsh winter this year, I had to replace the radiator. All other parts are still original.
95 leep grand cherokee
this car runs and looks great well worth the money handles well never had a problem treat it well and it takes care of you
It's been a great car for 9 years
I was 20 years old when I bought my Cherokee brand new. It has been a wonderful car. It has been all over California on all kinds of road trips. I am now 29 years old and it has 165,000 miles I am selling it, not because I am tired of it or have had any problems, but it is just time for a new car. I will probably get emotional when I see it go. My dad was worried when I bought it that it would not be dependable but he has loved it and doesn't want to see me let it go either. Thanks Jeep, it's been wonderful!!!!
Wife's car
Bought for my wife, she loved it, I didn't. Reliable, solid little car. Not roomy enough for me (6'3"). No complaints on mechanical side but too small to travel in. I had a Suburban and she the Cherokee Country, sold the Suburban and gave the Jeep to my son and compromised on a Tahoe. The only thing she likes on the Tahoe is the heated seats. Looked at a used 2000 Classic for her this morning.
Jeep
Very dependable. Never a major problem. Strong 4.0L engine and automatic transmission. Classic styling and utilitarian look. Will be a true classic one day.
Owner
1995 Jeep 4wd. Purchased used with 100,000 miles. Now have 132,000 miles. Have had to replace rotor cap button, spark plugs, oxygen and crank sensor at 128,000 miles. I have been very pleased with its performance and low maintenance. Previous owner ( next door neighbor ) also had low maintenance record. He had jeep approximatey 70,000 miles.
BUY A JEEP!!!!
I purchase my jeep 2 years ago. After almost 50,000 miles and several cross country trips... I'm hooked on Jeep Cherokees. I recommend this Jeep to anyone wanting an SUV that is reliable, fun to drive and extremely powerful. This is the best vehicle I've ever owned... after 6 cars. The only problem I've had was a crack in the exhaust manifold - total= $450 -- that's it! (probably from front end collision @ 30mph) no other problems.
Can't Beat it! Love it!
This was my first new car at the age of 30. I have never had a problem with this vehicle with the exception of normal wear and tear. This Jeep has plenty of power and great style. I have been looking for a new SUV for the last month; not because I want to get rid of my Jeep, but because my son is getting his license and he needs a dependable vehicle. I wish they still made this model because I would buy another one today. It is never going to be out of style. There will never be a comparable replacement for my Jeep. I miss it already even though it will still be in the family.
LOVE IT!
Got this car for a great price-$1600. Interior was pretty bad but put on seat covers and not too bad now. Replaced water pump, needs new tires, replaced very minor items such as light bulb for gear shift, and new lighter (gotta have dvd player hooked up for the kids on long trips:), rear windshield wiper -- all easy to fix. Took it in for an oil change and guy was very impressed with how good everything looked -- does not leak oil at all!
Cherokee Country 4WD/ABS
Convenience & vehicle utility are what this small to midsize family workhorse important. Whether you mean to go offroad or stay on, this vehicle serves an economical family's needs for safety, fun, and small truck type needs. It made me appreciate backroads, where I can get away from the stressful highways where the "Consumer Report BestBuys" clog the road. I tend to get where I'm going in the same time or better anyway, but with a smile on my face. Our kids would much rather ride in this than a sedan, because even they can see the view better.
Solid, reliable and basic vehicle
We bought this Cherokee new in 1995 and have used it for basic transportation (our only car) since then. We live an active lifestyle, and it's been great for camping, mtn. biking, carrying canoes and kayaks, etc. We have 2 German Shepherds, and they ride in the back with the seats folded down. The car has run like a Swiss watch, and we've had no mechanical problems at all. The 180 hp, low torque motor is a great hauler and handles like a work horse in adverse conditions (snow, off-road, etc.).
The best car for the money
I purchased two Jeep Cherokee County's back in 1995. One for myself, then my wife liked it so much the next week we went down and purchased one more. :) There have been no major problems on either one to date. I have changed the water pump on both Jeeps at about 120k miles. One of the Jeeps now has about 190k miles on it and the other has 145k miles. Both still run great, and I change the oil only once a year whether the Jeeps need it or not hahaha. These cars have both been used for daily driving as well as off road fun, driving in snowy weather for skiing (which I do quite often), hauling my boat, hauling wood out of the forest for my cabin, and a lot of other general abuse.
95 Cherokee 2WD Sport
No serious problems with this vehicle ever. Total repair bills approx $1000.00 since new ownership. Excellent car, wish they were still being made!
I did all right and still got burned
I enjoyed my Jeep thoroughly. I kept my Jeepster in pristine shape inside and out. You could literally eat off the floors and or hood. Within 8 years of ownership I had an oil leak where dropping the tranny became a necessary fix costing me $800 - and from there it mechanically went downhill FAST. The radiator, water pump and finally the rod bearings. The rod bearings would cost me a remanfacturered engine at a cost of $2000 + labor. The dealership here in Central Florida said $4300 and I said see ya. I had to figure if it was worth the time and money. The Jeep value being ONLY $3300. I loved my Jeep! Yet if I fix it what would the possibilities be of something else going wrong, like the A/C?
Love It!
I bought this SUV not because i was attracted to the vehicle, but because i have four friends with cherokees, and they are all satisfied witht he vehicle. none of them have had any major problems with their Jeeps, and i got mine at a steal. i bought mine with 75000 miles on it, it is a '95, and in near perfect condition. i can easily see this car lasting for another 75000 miles.
Love our Country!
Bought our Jeep two years ago from the original owners who were selling it because they bought a new Cherokee (2001 was the last year they made 'em). We have 80K on our Jeep and have had a few problems (waterpump, brakes, broken motor mount) but nothing out of the ordinary. It's a great vehicle, very handy and I think, sharp looking. Ours is red over silver. The ride is quite rough but hey, it's a Jeep right?
Great all around vehicle
I've had my Jeep nearly 5 years now. Have put about 50,000 miles on it. Really like this for a hunting vehicle. Enough room in the back with the back seat folded down, and also plenty of room for 4-5 people if needed. The only repairs I have needed to make other than the normal ones are I had to have the front CV joints (that's what I call them) replaced. There is one just inside each tire. Also had to have the passenger side wheel bearing replaced. I have stayed up pretty well on the scheduled maintenance of my Jeep. I'm sure that has helped.
EXCELLENT RIDE
The only problem I've had is the mount which holds the rearview mirror fell off. It was garage kept. 69,ooo miles. Maybe that's why the interior is imaculate and the exterior paint and body is good as new. I used to have a 95' dodge neon and the dash got a huge crack in it! There are no signs of any possible damage to the dash or anything else so far. The Jeep is very peppy and more importantly has excellent handling, which the combination of the two, makes it fun to drive! I highly recommend this vehicle.
