Love my Trooper
I bought my Trooper brand new in '96 when the big Trooper rollover scare was going around, hence I got a great deal. Let me tell you, I have not been able to get the tires off the ground, let alone roll it over, and it has gone around some sharp corner pretty fast both on and off road. It has great towing capacity. I started a business with my trooper pulling heavy loads of concrete and lumber and at 70,000 miles I still have the original brakes. The only problems I have had was at 50,000 miles I had a valve cover leak. It was fixed under warranty.
Buying another trooper
We just gave our 96 Trooper to daughter, will get a 02 before they change to a GM base. Would like to have something negative to say about it but can't. We've lived in 3 staes put 70+ miles on it and have only done routine mnx..What else can you say. I'd prefer a more sophiscated vehicle but wife likes Trooper.
Wish I had two of them
Owned it since new. Just normal maintenance except for having to replace the starter and the rockers and rocker shafts at 101,000 miles ($1500 in parts). They have supposedly fixed the rocker problem by using harder metals. (This is not a problem with the DOHC engines.) Still, I feel the vehicle has been a great value! I have 141,000 miles on it now. The State required emissions test shows that it has the exhaust emissions of a new vehicle. I am about to let my second son start driving it. Ill miss it.
Good Overall 4x4!
I bought my 95 Trooper new, base model, 5spd, air conditioning only option. No major problems, after 90000 miles. Oil, tires, battery, spark plugs, timing belt.
Long-time owner
Nine years with this vehicle and it has surpassed my expectations. Very reliable and capable. Solidly built - still has that same tight feel as when it was new.
