Inifniti adds only a single appearance package to the QX80 for 2024 — a dark chrome trim package that applies only to the top Sensory trim. It's a weak upgrade to a platform that's deeply in need of a complete overhaul to keep up with more modern rivals. However, if what you're seeking is traditional truck-like toughness, V8 power and serious towing ability, the QX80 will serve you well. Maximum towing capacity is a stout 8,500 pounds, and the four-wheel-drive system has low-range gearing for those times when you need extra low-speed grunt, such as when going off-road. What the QX80 sacrifices in modern comfort and convenience it somewhat makes up for in ruggedness.

How does the QX80 drive? Large SUVs have been transitioning to turbocharged engines, which leaves the QX80 and its naturally aspirated V8 as a rare offering in the class. There's 400 hp on tap, but in our testing the QX80 accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds, which is unremarkable for a luxury SUV. Its brakes, however, are a standout, especially for such a large family hauler. They're powerful but also easy to use in typical driving.
Yet there's no getting around the fact that the QX80 is, underneath its skin, a dated 6,000-pound SUV. The steering isn't as quick or accurate as we'd like, and around turns it feels much less nimble and modern than other luxury SUVs. The field has moved on and it's clear the QX hasn't.

How comfortable is the QX80? The QX80 has some good qualities for a large SUV. Its weight, long wheelbase and tall tire sidewalls lend some cushion over rough surfaces and small bumps. But larger, uneven bumps tend to shake the cabin dramatically side to side. While that's not uncommon for such a big vehicle, it feels more pronounced in the QX than in some rivals.
The seats look nice but offer limited adjustability and support and aren't up to the standards of the seats in similarly priced vehicles. The climate control is straightforward to use, and the seat heat and ventilation are very effective. That said, with the exception of a quiet, well-insulated cabin, the QX80 has a hard time hiding its utilitarian roots.

How’s the interior? There's plenty of interior room. There's no risk of feeling cramped in the first two rows and, although somewhat limited by the high floor, third-row space is better than in some competitors. The second-row captain's chairs flip and tumble forward fairly easily with the pull of a lever, but not so easily that a kid could do it.
Outward visibility is good thanks to a high seating position, big mirrors and standard 360-degree camera system. The infotainment screen has nice-looking graphics, but the user experience and menu navigation are pretty clunky and not all intuitive compared to many rival systems out there. It has redundant controls by way of the touchscreen and small rotary knob, but even then it's not particularly easy to use.

How’s the storage? The QX80 doesn't offer quite as much maximum space as a Cadillac Escalade. But what's here — 49.6 cubic feet behind the second row and a max space of 95.1 cubes — is still pretty helpful for most of the tasks you'll probably use a large SUV for. However, the high liftover at the back and thick bumper make loading heavy items a strain.

The spacious second-row buckets will accommodate most car seats, and the car seat attachment points are easy to find. The second-row headrests are removable, and the seatbacks recline for fitting a larger seat.

How’s the fuel economy? We tested a four-wheel-drive QX80, which gets an EPA-estimated 15 mpg in combined city/highway driving. That's worse than what most competitors get, such as the Lincoln Navigator and BMW X7. We averaged 16.6 mpg on our real-world evaluation route, which indicates to us that this V8 is as thirsty as its estimates suggest.

Is the QX80 a good value? The QX80 doesn't have much value to offer compared to the alternatives. Interior materials are nice, and nothing rattles. However, Infiniti could have gone much further with the interior upgrades. The infotainment attempts to help modernize the interior a bit, but that mirage disappears pretty quickly. We'd be hard-pressed to pay the premium for this over the Nissan Armada — both SUVs are essentially the same vehicle underneath the sheetmetal. Or for what the QX80 costs, we think you can buy a lot more luxury from rival automakers.

The QX80 doesn't rise much above normal transportation. Sure, the V8 engine sounds decent, but the sheer mass of the thing means very little hustling can be done before the tires squeal and the electronic stability and traction control systems take over. The QX80's styling has been updated over the years, but it still looks chunky and plain from most angles.
Which QX80 does Edmunds recommend?
We think the Luxe trim offers the most value in the QX80 lineup. It comes standard with adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen and navigation. Wireless Apple CarPlay is also standard, but you'll have to use a cord for Android Auto.

2020 INFINITI QX80 LIMITED 4dr SUV 4WD (5.6L 8cyl 7A)
I have had the 2011 original model, and recently upgraded to 2020 facelifted model.
This is not a high tech car like the audi q7, but it's spacious, comfortable and reliable and that's all I need.

2023 INFINITI QX80 SENSORY 4dr SUV 4WD (5.6L 8cyl 7A)
We had a new Grand Wagoneer Series III and had to go through lemon lawsuit to get Jeep to buy it back after it sat at the dealership for 6 months.
We had a 2019 QX80 before and loved it, but it had a cruise control issue that they had not sorted it out yet.
We decided to try the QX80 again after driving everything that was remotely reliable.
Wife and I both loved the new screen … layout, what a refreshing break from the complexity of the Grand Wagoneer! Everything you need is in reach and you can access in seconds without distracting from driving.
We love the power, handling with the hydraulic motion control, and the comfort! Amazing highway cruiser and love the isolation from the road while still being sporty on the windy roads.
UPDATE: We LOVE THIS TRUCK!!!!!!!
We had the 2019, with the cruise control issues and did not have the body motion control. Bought it new for almost half of the comparable competition so we dealt with the issues because we liked the truck so much, and for so much less!
Traded it in for my car and ended up getting my wife the 2022 Grand Wagoneer. THAT WAS A COMPLETE MISTAKE!!!!! Even though it was brand new, that truck was in the shop 6 of the 10 months we owned it!! Finally sued Stellantis under the lemon law and they bought it back from us. Could not wait to get rid of it!
Decided we loved the QX80 reliability, and picked up a new 2023 QX80 Sensory.
Cruise control issues are fixed, and the Sensory has the body motion control, and I have to say it is a better vehicle in everyway compared to the Grand Wagoneer!!!!
We absolutely love this truck! Used it in the snow and ice, hot summer months, road trips across country, everything, and have to say it was the best decision we could have made!
Sure it does not have all the amazing new tech like the "space ship" Grand Wagoneer, but some of that tech went haywire within the first year, so I was very glad to go back to the basics!
The tech this truck has works perfectly, every time, and is so easy to use!
Over 20K miles in and only issue was a fan sensor that they replaced in an hour at the dealership, while I waited, and everything has worked perfectly!!
I can honestly say I would not be afraid to drive this truck to Alaska tomorrow!
I cannot say that about any other vehicles we have had, and to me, that peace of mind is well worth it!!
Saw a 2022 Grand Wagoneer with 20K miles on it for $60K recently, which is half what the cost was new just a year and a half ago, and am sooooo thankful we were able to purchase the QX80!!!!!!!
Everything on this truck is easy to get to if you are a DIY maintenance person, and the warranty includes all maintenance as well, so what is not to like!
Several years of trouble free history for all of the mechanical components since this platform has been out a while, and that is confidence inspiring to me!
Honestly, not sure we are going to do the new 2025 QX80 the dealership wants us to go look at. Wife and & I decided, why would we change anything, this one is perfect!!!!
I have owned LOTS of vehicles, cars and trucks, and we both enjoy this truck more than my high priced luxury sedan, so this is our first choice for any traveling we have to do!

2020 INFINITI QX80 LUXE 4dr SUV (5.6L 8cyl 7A)
I’ve enjoyed my new QX80 for three years until my sensors started buzzing for no apparent reason. Although, the car is under warranty, Infiniti will not cover the cost to replace three sensors which have paint chipping from usual wear and tear from driving, thus setting off the sensor. $1500 to replace three. Doesn’t it seem that a three year old car sensors on a front bumper should be … able to withstand normal abrasion from driving? I’ve never had issues with other manufacturers sensors and I’m appalled this is happening three years in.

2020 INFINITI QX80 LUXE 4dr SUV 4WD (5.6L 8cyl 7A)
One month into purchasing the Infiniti I have no problems other than my gas mileage. The tank seems smaller(more frequent fill ups) than my previous MB GL450. The visibility is superior and no complaints for space in the cabin. All of the controls are very user friendly and easy to navigate. I'm definitely looking forward to establishing reliability in the years to come.
