Good commuter
The 93 G20 was very reliable. I put on 140,000 miles on it and it had no major repairs outside of scheduled repairs and tune-up items. No surprises at all. Impressive. The car had excellent pep and acceleration so long as there was only two people in it and no cargo in trunk. Fill it up with 4 adult passengers and truck of luggage and crank up the AC, then you can actually feel the engine being taxed on freeway on-ramps or long hill climbs. Speaking of trunk, it is large for a car this size, used the then new "Cab forward design.
Old Reliable
I drove this car for 4 years as a residential Realtor and ran it hard -- other than the normal things like brakes and batteries, never, ever had a problem. My teenagers have each had the car for the past 4+ years and it is still the most solid, dependable car one could ask for -- approaching 150,000 miles.
My Dear G20
I've owned my 1993.5 G20 since 1997. Bought it at 37,000miles and presently it has 213,967miles. This is the best car I have ever owned. It has never failed me. I replaced original water hose at 185K, speaker packed up at 197K and starter at 203K. Apart from those three items, everything in my G20 has performed flawlessly since 1997. Even the highly rated Acura and Lexus are not this trouble-free. I love my G20, WONDERFUL CAR INDEED!
BEST CAR EVER INVENTED!!!!!!
Best car ever!!!!!! Unfortunatley i can ran into by a suburban and the car took the hit great. The sunroof didn't even break!!!!!! I highly reccomend this car. I only wish i could find another one around here.
Bet my life on its reliability
The car is 9 years old now and Ive put 285,000 miles on it! Its an automatic and has every option. The leather seats still have no rips or wear the power windows and sunroof still work perfectly. The paint and plastic parts on this car have held up better than any other car Ive ever owned. The things Ive had to do to this car have been absolutely minimal. Ive had to replace the thermostat ($75) a power antenna mast ($35) and the battery once ($110) All of the other maintenance was done on time, and wasnt a shocking price. I am about to trade this in on the new G35. But I STRONGLY encourage anyone
Best car I've ever owned
I bought this car used in 1995 because after test driving many, many cars (mostly new), this was the one my wife wanted (it was to replace her '89 Taurus). She drove the car until the fall of 2002 (I then bought her an SUV). This was, without a doubt, the best car I (we) ever owned. The car has 150,000 miles on it. It continues to handle like a dream and has never failed us!
Fun ride
Bought used at 193kmiles and has a little over 210k now. Cannot imagine that it could drive any stronger, even when it was new. Great mileage despite driving it hard. Slow from a stop, but plenty of torque and power to get up to highway passing speed! Losing it to my kid at college, but confident it will treat him well,
Its way better than a CIVIC
I've had this car for less than a year and I was suprise to find out that for a small engine this pack a punch and gets great fuel econ. I also like the fact the it does relatively well in the snow. top speed 117 i could not find the gov.
Best Used Vehicle
Bought it used for $2000, now has 140,000 miles. Havent done anything to it other than gas. One time I got 35MPG with 80% high way. This car is very stable on highway compared to all my Hondas I ve owned in the past. Fun to drive and 140hp is more than enough.
You will not find a better car
I purchased this car used with 57,000 miles on it. Now with 127,000 I have replaced the brakes and clutch (5 speed). Everything works like new. I have friends that are now trying to buy the same car for their kids. This is a 93. I do not like the 97 + cars. they are more like a sentra and do not have a similar level of performance.
First and only
This car was the first car that I have ever owned and I do not want anything other then it. I bought the car with 83,000 miles and had it until 140,000. I only changed some electrical and the alternator on the car which only cost me about $550 over a 6 year period. Recently, the transmission will not hold 5th gear, so I decided to move on and trade it in. I am actually in the market looking for a G20 between 2000-2002 because I just can not get enough of this car. They drive fantastic and look so good for an older car. I plan to keep getting Infinitis because of their reliability and performance on the road.
Good Car
Good, reliable car that you can count on with 100,000+ miles. My avg maintenance is $0.032/mile (no gas, oil, or tires). No rust (garage kept).
My G20
I bought this car off my mom. It's an ok car but you have to watch out for the infiniti dealers. They replaced the clutch and 3000 miles later it was gone and the refused to replace it under warranty. Also the abs break flued leeks at around 80,000. THe part is a $1200 fix, but you can drive on the broken part for quite some time. The inside is comfortable, its somewhat stylish, my window also stopped working that cost me $250. The engine is not built to be handled by anything more than an older woman.
MY MURDEROUS MACHINE
I bought the car with 194k. Engine was perfect but swapped for jdm nissan primera SR20. Catalytic Delete, tuned ECU. Dynoed at 180hp with just those mods and i'm getting 28mpg city. Body is perfect except for two rust holes, no frame rust, beautiful clean interior, insulated very well. All accesories work including the R12 A/C. would recommend this to anyone who wants a luxurious daily-driver/sleeper. Very easy to work on from a mechanic's perspective. I only wish they had put in cup holders. drilled some plastic ones into the bottom of the dash. 120mph on the highway all day! very technologically advanced for its time
Loved the car
Great car, had it for 8.5 years and would have kept it for another 2 or 3. Terrific reliability, nice but perhaps boring styling, fun to drive (5sp). I was told they made a conscious effort to copy the BMW 3-series (which at the time deliberately did not have cup holders). Nice interior - no cupholders though. After 8 years, only problems were a defective oxygen sensor and one other engine problem. Got side swiped and had to be totalled. RIP.
Infiniti 20 - A great car to own
This was the first new car I ever bought and after 15 years it's still going strong at 242,000 miles. I bought an Infiniti because this girl I liked at the time drove one and I was impressed with the brand. I could only afford the G20, but what a deal it was. No car payments for 10 years now. My wife has suggested selling or donating it. I think not.
Not as great as everyone's saying
Bought in 2006 with 135k; now at 170k, I have many issues with this car. The lack of a cup holder is absurd. I've replaced 3 out of 4 pwr window motors, the sunroof motor is about to die, the A/C has recently started acting up. I've replaced an engine mount 3 times. In the summer, after driving for about 30 mins, gasoline fumes fill the car--dealer can't figure out the problem. Fuel economy not what I'd expect from a 4cyl. I get 20 city, 24 hwy. I will say the exterior styling is good-doesn't look 16 yrs old. Also, it has some features not found on many cars today (pwr passenger seat, heated mirrors, lighted entry system). Can be fun to drive when A/C off. VERY SMALL BACKSEAT-no legroom.
G20T
My car was purchased 93. Have a lot of fun with it especially when the boost kicks in. You guys should try it with turbonetics turbo upgrade and greddy parts. My car is old but it will definitely smoke any new g20 389whp!!!!!!!
Great first car!
It's been about 3 years since I owned my G20 but I loved it so much I feel that I should write about it. The G20 gets excellent mileage and its SR20 engine is highly regarded as one of the most reliable engines ever built! My car had over 190,000 miles on it before I sold it when I moved away. Even with 140hp this car still can move quick and is very stable at high speeds. Very comfortable to drive long distances. Definitely am looking for an Infiniti as my next car!
I'll miss our G20"
After 17 years it's time to say goodbye to this reliable family car. Why? Twenty-first century safety and fuel economy realities demand that gas-guzzlers and cars lacking all the safety features no longer should carry your family members---or anyone else for that matter. But over the years this car rarely required repairs (one blown tire, replacement of front shocks and one bad engine mount --- that was everything in all those years. We still have not decided what will replace it.
Finally time to switch
I've had so much fun with this car, but it's finally giving out.. But at 17 years, and 112k miles most of which were short-range, I'm OK with that. Now, the 5th gear pops out frequently which seems like a frequent problem with Nissans/Infinitis around this model year. Also, my kids are starting to outgrow the back seats (twins are almost 8 years).
Cant go wrong
I bought this car 4 years ago with 91,000 miles on it. It now has 157,000 miles on it and all we have had to do was put in a new water pump and clutch. What a fantastic car. I will drive it till I cant drive it no more, and that looks like a long way off. And it will be replaced with another Infiniti for sure. But this time one with cup holders.
Great investment
Bought the car from my relative who needed a minivan. He didn't want to give it up, but he's glad I am taking care of it. It had a few minor blemishes but otherwise it's really a great car. Too soon for me to tell about reliability, but I expect drive this thing until it dies, or until I need a minivan. Why do people buy new cars?
great car
this is a great car. only problem i have is the power. 140 hp isnt enough. great reliability. has not broken down once, i have over 110,000 miles on it. its a great car, with little maintenance charges.
g20 rocks!
HAd it for 4 years no problems whatsoever. Excellent car!
First car I bought
The Infiniti g20 is the first car I purchased on my own I love it can't find the gov. Had it at 127 in fifth gear with 2000rpm left Baught it with 194000 miles now has 203000 miles and runs strong highly recommended
Quality of Performance/Reliability
I had hardly any trouble at all with it. I bought it used w/64,000 miles on it and it ran great until almost 180,000 miles before I had to replace the transmission. Now it runs just as good as it did before. It's so nice to have a car that doesn't have something going wrong w/it every other month. It makes me scared of buying anything other than an Infiniti. Infiniti has it's reputation for a reason. Luckily, these older style G20's don't look like a 1993 car.
Best Car Ever Owned
I've owned my 1993.5 G20 (5 spd) for almost 9 years. Bought it at 22,000mi, and it now has 167,000mi. Best car I've ever owned. Absolutely bullet- proof, unfailingly dependable, and best steering of any car I've ever driven except possibly the original VW Scirocco. Replaced original clutch at 160,000, alternator replaced under warranty at 30,000, ABS servo (inexpensive, minor switch replacement) had to be replaced at 135,000, Cruise stopped working at 155,000. Other than those items, absolutely everything in this car has performed flawlessly for 9 years, including AC. Can't imagine a more trouble-free car has ever been made. GREAT CAR!
Best car I ever Owned
Great car no problems
What a disappointment
When we hit 80,000 miles, something major went out every six months. We just wanted to get rid of it.
This is one fun car!
This is the perfect used car, I bought it with 111k on it and it runs like a champ. Great looking car, I would buy another one in a heartbeat.
A car to keep
I bought this car with 1100 miles on it and it's not approaching 100,000. I love the way this car drives. I have no inclination to replace it because I still love driving it after 14 years. Seats are perfect. Cornering is a dream. Quiet ride. Has aged well. Plan on keeping it another decade. I just love this car. Wouldn't sell it or trade it for something new.
Walked away from smoking rear end write off
Had this g20 since new. Replaced entire exhaust, new Perellii tires, fuel pump, brake lines all after direct hit from hurricane Irma that made rags out of undercarriage from tree parts pushed under it. In process of driving back to Canada car running from police chase rear ended me pushing us off into the ditch totaling her. Does wont open or close, rear wheel broke off. Loved this car so sad. Running well at 100 or 45 below. Liking for a replacement. Had less than 10000 mileage, inside no dammage to seats or trim save for one fingernail mark on handle shelf.

G-20 Goes the Distance
I purchased my G20 with 9,000 miles on it since it had been a service loaner. This has been in my more than a decade of driving a car, the best car I've owned. It has 124,000 miles on it and has never left me stranded or broken down on me. I'll buy another G20 when I'm ready.
Awesome vehicle!
What a car! I bought this as my commuter vehicle years ago and it has since been driven by my wife and 3 of my children. It is comfortable, peppy enough, very sophisticated (for its vintage), and still turns heads. I cannot believe how it has aged--people with little GM's can't believe their cars are 10-12 years newer! Yes, this car was billed as a "Japanese BMW" and indeed I would concur--but I'll bet a Bimmer would not be running like this 15 years later. If you find one of these babies, buy it--they are becoming quite rare.
"Best-kept secret car"
I'm a HUGE car guy: Owned all sorts of cars, studied engineering, bought & sold cars for school money, competed in rally racing and stay on top of all things automotive. My '94 G20t 5spd is BY FAR the best car I've ever owned. It's the only car that makes me wonder what I'll do when I need to replace it. 134k now!!
Definitely would buy another..
I purchased my G-20T 8 years ago... And I have 245,000 miles currently, and she is still running, with no problem (knock on wood,).. Needless to say this is the 2nd one I owned and would trade it for the world...
My First Car
I bought this car used in 1999. It's the perfect college car so far. It has taken a beating, but it has had no major problems to date. Just regular fix-ups (tires, brakes, half-shafts, battery, etc.). My only issues with this car is very little torque and a long shift throw. Not a big deal considering what you get (no relationship is perfect). If you are looking at used cars, this is a GREAT buy.
Great Little Sedan
I got a '94 G20 Touring Edition from a little old man who didn't realize what a gem he was getting rid of. I was somewhat new to the Infiniti...but loved the way it drove & looked. Although I dont put a huge amt. of miles on it... Since 1994 it has never left me stranded... parts are easily accessible as well...unlike other "high end" foreign vehicles. This one has 75,000 miles on it & from what i've read on these other reviews.. mine has a long way to go before its past its prime! I highly recommend this car.
A great car to drive and to own!
I love my 1994 G20!!! This car has a lot of spunk at a great price! The quality and reliability is superb! I would highly recommend this car to anyone!
It's worth it
This has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. It now has 105,000 miles on it and runs as if it were new. I get very impressive gas mileage and it's highway feel is much like my previous Buick Regal. The sound system is outstanding and road noise for this little car is much less than one would expect. It is worth the money to find one of these little gems they will run forever and look classy doing it.
Best Car for the money
After 10 years and almost 150k miles later my G20 is still running strong! Except for oil, plugs and filters change this car has not had a single thing replaced! Too bad Infinity no longer build this little gem.
Fair
My car is 12 years old, so I expect parts to be in need of replacement. But it seems there are too many parts going wrong within the length of a year. First, the two oxygen sensors went out April 2005; Second, the catalytic converter must be replaced to install the o2 sensor; Third, one fuel injector needs to be replaced, October 2005. The labor is a lot higher than the new injector; Fourth, the windshield cracked. This probably happened on highway. December 2005. A $300 replacement; Fifth, the A/C went out May 2006. A $500 repair. In a word, the well-reputed reliability of Nissan/Infiniti seems open to question. The performance of the car is no fun. Miserable acceleration. Engine noise.
good
I have the 5 speed manual and it was my first car. It is very reliable and enjoyable to drive everyday. I had a problem with the power steering hose and had to get it replaced but other than that, its good.
Simply awesome.
I've owned this infiniti for only 6 mts, yet I had a 95 for over 3 years. Very fun car to drive. The T model includes all the options you may ever want, there's not too many out there on the road, and for a 4 cylinder engine, this 2.0 Liter SR20DE is really top of the line. Unfortunately they are no longer in the US. The nissan primera (as it is known in Europe, Japan) last year for the US was 2002... I don't know what I'll do once I have to switch my car. :(
Still love my G20t after all these years
I bought my G20t (the touring package) in 1993 as a loaner car with 6K miles on it. Buying my G20t was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It just turned over 160K miles (11/2006,) & I still love to drive it. The ride is smooth. The leather is top quality and still looks brand new. It is not perfect. The flaw that annoys me to this day is it has no cupholders, & Infiniti wants $100 to install them. Pleeeeease! The lights for the temperature buttons are not displaying consistently. The biggy is that there are 2 oil leaks that will cost about $800+ to fix. The leaks don't affect the performance or safety so I just keep adding oil. I plan to drive it until is stops.
Great Car!
I've ran this car at the tracks stock... The best time i had was a 16.6 quarter mile time. After I added an intake, full pipe exhaust, and an ignition system, I dropped almost a full second (15.7) Just wanted to say that this car is the most reliable car out there, because if it's still kickin after the way I drive it... it's build to last!!!
