Bought with 3ish now at 120,000 going strong
Well you won't find one so you can forget about if. But if you do, what a deal! I purchased my Veracruz for something like 19K around 2010. I've had it for 5 years and put about 90K on it. It has been amazingly good. It was purchased to replace a Murano which I loved but which pretty much imploded at about 100K. It was leaking oil, burning oil and I'd sunk too much money into it. I was looking for practical and that is what I got with the Veracruz. It has been as frugal as I am. I don't know why they stopped making it. I bet it cost more to make than it brought in. I also like driving it because it seems to be surrounded by comfort foam. I can't tell if the engine is on or not because it is just that quiet. You can hear road noise while driving but you won't hear the engine. It is also safe. I drive in an area that gets snow from October through May. The vericruz has had no problems with the snow with all weather tires.

Best Vehicle ever owned. Still the best I've owned
Bought this Veracruz in Nov. 2007 new, traded in a Lincoln Navigator. This has been by far the best vehicle I have ever owned and I have owned numerous vehicles. It will be 10 years old on Nov. 8, 2017, currently has 355,516 miles and still runs like brand new, still looks brand new. Only had routine maintenance done up until last year and had to replace the catalytic convertors (2 of the 3) and the rotors. I did not hesitate to spend the $$$ for repairs. I only wish they still produced this vehicle as I would but another in a New York minute. My goal is to put 500,000 miles on this vehicle before I replace it unless it just totally implodes. Very proud Hyundai Veracruz owner!!!

Bought used still smiling 70,000 miles later
Purchased the Veracruz (1/2011) with 23,000 to replace 03 Murano with 140,000 miles. I needed a heavy safe car capable of carting a lot of people but used primarily to commute approx 800 miles/week often in harsh wintery conditions. The car now has over 100,000. It's much hardier than the Murano (not as fun). It has been relatively problem free. The superior warranty is a huge help-(although less than new). I've had dealer problems-billed for covered repairs and most recently, when problems were due to known recall issue-stood my ground. I've replaced the windshield wiper mechanism-bought used. It is very sturdy safe car with great flexible space-I'd buy it again except they D/C'd it. Why?
50K Miles and still love my car
Shortly prior to buying this car, I was doing a significant amount of traveling for work and so was renting a lot of cars. I had always been a honda fan, but was really dissapointed with the Accord. It just wasn't comfortable to drive. Then I had a Mazda, VW, Suzuki, and more, but I was most impressed with the Elantra. It had a great set up and was easy to drive. I went down to the dealership to look at Elantras and then I saw the Veracruz. I took a test drive and was blown away - So comfortable, nice set up of the control panel, just a really great vehicle to drive. I can't say enough great things about this car. Third row seat is just wonderful to have for carpooling with kids.
Still love it
Going on 3 years and over 36000 miles with no major problems. Vehicle runs great and loaded with extras that are standard. Read some reviews on this site that complain about the Hyundai but this was our third Hyundai and my wife now has an Elantra which is our fourth. Exceptional value for the money. Car looks good, is comfortable, roomy and reliable. Best vehicle I have ever owned and I'm 62 years old and have owned a lot of different vehicles.
Still going strong
Bought new. Over 210,000 miles. Time for an oil change. General PM maintenance with a few nagging electrical issues. Will keep it until it dies.
Gas Mileage, fantastic on highway!!!
I can't believe it has been almost a year since I wrote the first review on the Veracruz and I must admit I am still "VERY MUCH SATISFIED!!" My son and I traveled to Boston MA. two weeks ago, and we were so impressed at the gas mileage the Veracruz gave! My son and I decided to split the miles in half(389 each). I started out first from NC. I decided to stop and get gas after traveling 479 miles (son went to sleep) I still had a quarter of a tank left! I have to admit, I was so impressed! This was a comfortable and inexpensive trip!
good choise
I have the limited and it is the best suv I had ever owned. I had an 2007 honda pilot and the veracruz wins by far. it is so quite on the road its hard to believe your moving, and the ride is the best, very smooth. This is my fourth Hyundai and they just get better, I had two Santa fe,s 01 & 03 and both were great. My wife has an 04 XG350L and had no problems. Hope this helps anyone looking at Hyundai.
Great SUV
Having never bought a foreign brand, i was very hesitant. We drove the Veracruz Limited, along with several other brands. I must admit that the car impressed us from the start. We drive several thousand miles per year, have made trips of up to 800 miles in one day. The car continues to impress us. This is absolutely the most vehicle for the money. Drove domestics for 30 years. Last vehicle was an Expedition Eddie Bauer. While smaller, this vehicle's quality is every bit as good as the Ford.
2008 veracruz
overall its a decent vehicle; however it developed multiple rattles which the dealer can never seem to find. Not very comfortable driving position for tall drivers. I do like the entertainment system w/dvd, however headphones are flimsy & can easily break..both of ours did...the front seats could be more comfortable.Reason we purchased is it gave us more features for less money than the cx9 which we strongly considered. Those rattles take all the joy out when driving the car, which to me is a sign of workmanship
From Honda to Hyundai
When the family grew it was time to get into the SUV market...never thought I would have purchased a Hyundai...but glad I did!! I was always a loyal Honda diver..but the Pilot did not compare to the Veracruz (price/warranty/amenities. So far smooth diving and no complaints other than gas mileage could be better but since this is my 1st suv, I expected this to change. I enjoy all the luxury items at a great price that was better than the CX-9, Highlander, and Pilot. I would highly recommend this vehicle. I like having a nice quiet comfortable ride on long trips and this car pampers you, and yes as it has been compared to the Lexus 350 it is much less expensive and still has that luxury feel!!
Happy with Hyundia
Our first Hyundai. Impressed with fit and finish, ride and driving. Car drives very smooth for its truck listing. Very good on comfort, my wife is 5 foot and I am 6'1". Fits us both. Appearance wise we are very pleased with the Beige exterior and saddle leather interior. We were impressed with the way Hyundai backs there product.
Just AWSOME!
Ater I purchased this car, I drive this car every night after my wife and son go to bed ~ :) I can not hear any noise from out side ~ it is like my computer room with playing Sara Brightman / Andrea Bocheli "Time to say goodbye" ~ Just AWSOME!
Good Car for less money
Seems like a good vehicle. We have driven just a few 100 miles, but so far so good. Decent mileage, very good comfort, attractive looks.
Pleasant Surprise
This was my first non-Toyota/Honda vehicle and I was pleasantly surprised that my Hyundai Veracruz is such a great vehicle. I have had it for 8 months now and I am very satisfied with it. The ride quality is excellent and very smooth. Handles like a car on curves. In normal commute I get about 20 mpg on average, although I have even got up to 25 mpg on the I-5 from sf to la. The interior design is very thoughtful and practical. Very comfortable seating. No mechanical problems so far after 10k of driving. I paid about $4000 less than what I would have paid for a comparable Toyota highlander.
super suv
we love it,comfort great options and style. very quite ride and fun to drive. we have taken a couple of trips and got 23 mpg at 75mph. we have used the rear 120 pleg to charge our camera. my son loves the dvd player and the wireless headphones mom and i like. the automatic wipers are great. i would diffently suggest the limited over the other model. we found it's just 1500.00 more but you a ton more options. the dealer has been great and helpful. the proxsimity key is wonderful and we love the two memory seating. overall we highley reccomand the car. we checked out all the suvs' out there and this is by far the best!!
EXCELLENT CROSSOVER
We love this car. We debated a lot on which crossover to purchase, and finally decided that the VC was the best deal. We couldn't get any other car with all the features we wanted for this price. The dealership even added the Parrot bluetooth system, which is really convenient. Fuel economy is probably its greatest weakness, averaging about 20mpg, but still is comparable to its competitors. Other cool features, the rear view mirrors tilt down when you're in reverse so you can see how close you are to the curb (can turn this feature off as well). Seats are pretty comfy, even the third row where we've had a few adult passengers have a comfortable ride. We love the power liftgate.
Problems with being reliable
The first week I had It I had to have the battery replaced. The other day I started it up, put it reverse and it gave a hard jolt. 5 minutes later I pressed the gas pedal down and It would only go 5 miles an hour. I stopped, call road service and when he arrived it miraculously was back to normal. The next day, it wouldn't start at all. I do have a 100,000 mile warranty but this is my very first Hyundai. I have always owned Toyota's. I am very discouraged and only hope whatever the problem is, they find it, fix it and I have no more problems. I have never had any problems with any of my new cars before. 4 x's in 2 years is 4 times too much. I have to have a reliable car.
Great vehicle
I've only had it for a few weeks now, but so far so good. I'm getting around 19MPG with mixed driving. It has lots of little features that make life easier, such as the proximity key, power tailgate, cool box in console, placement of interior lights is grea,t very comfortable and powerful. The one this that does bother me just a little is that the rear dvd player renders your rearview mirror useless, it totally blocks the rear window when in use.
Love my VeraCruzzzzzz
Bought a 2008 in 2018. I’ve driven it over 200,000 miles. Next to no troubles. It’s not sexy but it’s so reliable.

Two Years and 19K miles later
Going on two years now the Veracruz has been decent, but I've had the rear DVD player replaced and now the rear heat and A/C doesn't work. It started with a squeak in the right rear compartment. It was a part on the rear blower system. The dealer has been great but should I have had these problems so soon? Let me answer my own question NO! I hope this is not the beginning of a lemon car. I gave Hyundai a chance I hope I don't regret it. This is their top of the line SUV, right? I've taken it on two decent size trips. It has performed flawlessly. I gotten as high as 24 mpg. Enough of the silly problems already. If I had the ging I would have bought an RX Lexus. Good luck to us Veracruz owners.
Nice but for chicks
Handles really good but a bit lag when @ green light, helps save gas i guess. Got it @ 110 miles, My wife and I first new car, course i favor it more because she liked it and the safety for our kids, I'm pretty tall so i wish seats go back further for leg room. Matt came with the suv. Heated seat not needed in Hawaii but the a/c is very cold so we might as well use it. lol. Factory speakers inadequate so i upgraded.
You get what you pay for - no great deal
I bought a 2008 Veracruz AWD fully loaded except for the nav. At first I loved it. It looks great, rides super quiet unless the road is bumpy, & seemed to be more than it was. Little by little it started falling apart & a lousy service department isnt helping my love for the car. At 17k miles the front rotors warped & (Dis)Advantage Hyundai in Hicksville NY wouldnt honor it. Really? Your going to fight me on rotors at 17k mi? 1st red flag. Then there were 3 recalls which I respect as a good thing, except even with an appointment they took way too long & in summary ended up leaving a cover screw out and cross threading 2 others. When I noticed the missing screw I was accused of leaving it out
Great Riding Vehicle
Check to insure the a/c and heat comes out of all registers.

VERACRUZ LIMITED AWD
Nice vehicle. The wife has a bad back and the lumbar support is helpful. Too bad the MPG city is not better.
Electrical problems
I researched this vehicle before buying and found that all but one were great ratings. The one bad stated that he had electrical problems from the very beginning. Well, I am the second. After only 10 months, the alarm would trigger when ever I unlocked and opened the door. They replaced a circuit card. Then, the steering wheel would not tilt. They replaced the switch twice and then the steering column. Then it would not tilt nor telescope so they replaced a circuit card. Three weeks later, it's doing it again. The DVD volume is much louder than the radio and they can't fix it. The fan under the hood is very loud sometimes. I am getting lots of rattles and wind noise now.
A MUST for a GROWING family
We have been looking for a second SUV that will accommodate our growing family and we've found it in the Vera Cruz. We comparatively drove the Dodge Journey and the Toyota Highlander and the Vera Cruz won out by far. We even parked beside a similar colored silver Lexus and it was obvious the styling was much nicer on the Vera Cruz. We also own a Santa Fe and although we love it as well, the Vera Cruz provides that added extra room when you need it. The 3rd row is enough for adults (issues with the Highlander and Journey) and even with a car seat in the second row you can comfortably fit in another 2 adults beside it (a tight squeeze in our Santa Fe). I would recommend to any family!!
Hyundai's Introduction
This car has been a great daily. It ride's like a luxury car- its suspension floats over bumps, and the shifts are smooth. Its seats are comfy, and there is much room, except in the third row. The interior aged nicely, and the car blends in, even in 2023. No unexpected repairs with the car at 126,000 miles. It's been a great car. The power is adequate for its size. She roars when you push the gas, and it's pretty impressive how she moves, especially at higher speeds. Both my wife and I agree it feels faster than her Chevy Equinox. However, we tend to use Equinox more when trying to save on gas. It has many features that still don't come standard today. For instance, our Veracruz has a power-adjustable steering wheel and 7-way power seats on both front seats, while the Equinox doesn't. The only thing I like less is the brakes; they don't stop as fast as you think, so if you get one, allow yourself more time to stop. Just keep up with the oil changes and follow the owner's manual, and the Veracruz will run great. The Veracruz was one of Hyundai's best offerings to attract people to the new brand. The Veracruz has fantastic features that still don't come standard today. I still find more things I didn't know about the car to this day! Excellent car, but it is sad Hyundai doesn't make it anymore.

1 Year Down and Loving it
Today completes my first year of ownership. After nearly 16,000 miles I like it more every day. First thing I added was a trailer hitch. I towed my boat over the Cascade Mountains this past June with no issues and regular lowland towing is a breeze. Plenty of power, torque, and the suspension is satisfactory for towing. This vehicle is stout but still drives like a car. The ride is smooth and quiet and the handling is too. I recently did some dirt road driving on logging roads in Oregon and I hardly noticed the lack of pavement. It handles seven normal sized adult passengers comfortably or just me and all my gear with room to spare.
Love My VeraCruz
When we bought the VeraCruz we had looked at probably 15 different SUV's and the VeraCruz was the best for you money. I was very very surprised how much power the car has, It can get up and go. Love the 10 Speaker infinity Sound system with Cd changer, Nice looking wheels. I drive this SUV alot on the Highway and get about 23-24 MPG. I love the turn signals on the mirrors. Also love that the dash lights up blue. I used to be in love with my Explorer but we I got this i fell in love all over again and my 03 Explorer just sits.
Totally Amazed
After months of research, I chose the Veracruz and love it! This SUV is extremely quiet, has plenty of horsepower and is a pleasure to drive. The power lift gate is the bomb having kids and the third row seats come in handy when carrying the neighbors kids along. Great job Hyundai - keep up the great work! I'd definitely buy another one!
More than a year and still love it!
After over 1yr I have 14K on my '08 Veracruz Limited. The vehicle has been nearly flawless! Nothing has gone wrong - not even minor problems. The interior still looks new even with kids. The interior layout is completely intuitive and the best I have had on any vehicle. A minor complaint is acceleration from a stop. But, to my surprise, using premium fuel does improve this problem a bit. The interior space is exceptional. We cart 2 kids with child seats and gear and the VC has ample room. Ride comfort for long trips is great. My wife's vehicle is an '08 Lexus RX350 and I can say the 2 are fairly comparable. We usually take the VC for trips because it has more storage space and a 3rd row.
Hyundai's come a long way
My first new car (in 1986) was a Hyundai Excel. Perfect price for the newly graduated and employed. People made fun of "Hyundai" back then. Seems the rep has changed and I'm loving my new Hyundai Veracruz. Ride is so smooth and it feels like a luxury vehicle. Lots of nice interior touches and great handling and maneuvering. While competing dealers will tell you the Veracruz is not "in the same class" as their crossover, it's priced right and I'm listening to the reports from the experts that Hyundai is making a quality vehicle. Time will tell, but love it so far.
A contender
I have the 2008 base model. I am very impressed by how good the car is, both in performance, comfort and design. It is very competitive with the 2005 Honda Pilot I also have. In exterior design and ride it is even better. My only peeve is the audio quality, which lacks resolution and "life" compared to may other OEM systems.
Own A Lexus rx 330 But Hyundai Veracruz
I got my Veracruz in early April in Florida.I drove it back to Wisc. in May. It's ride was better than my Lexus and the gas mileage about the same. It has even more features than my Lexus and for about 10 grand less Its interior leather is on par with my Lexus I think it Quality is as good as Lexus Will be leaving to go to Wyoming and can't wait to drive it on another rode trip. WE LOVE IT
2008 veracruz
Traded in a Tucson for the Veracruz. Have been happy with the size and 3rd row seats. A bit disappointed however by the power train. It's a dog to get moving from a stop which can be a problem in sticky situations. Transmission also gets confused as to when to shift and the engine can easily overpower the tranny before it shifts, better to do the manual shift. Fuel economy is not bad but could be a bit better. Have had a few qc issues. Car was sold with a bad tire and or rim, the rear quarter fills with water from the rear ac unit and both under mirror lights have popped out ..
Great!
We love this vehicle. We have owned Subarus and Chryslers previously, and there is no comparison. It is very well put together and the interior ergonomics are very user friendly. We have 5 children and have plenty room for daily commutes. On longer trips if it were not for the luggage rack on top you would be in trouble. No additional storage with rear seats up.
Very pleased so far
Spotted the VC when I went to look at the Muranos next door. Never entered the Nissan dealership. Most SUV for the money, hands down. I could not believe the build and material quality when I got in it. My other car is a Lincoln Towncar and the VC is as luxurious in every way, and even quieter. Not a full-sized SUV, but seats 7. Could be longer to provide space behind row 3. GLS with premium package should have power passenger seat, and auto AC but doesn't. For 19 mpg combined, could have more power (260 hp). Ford makes a V6 with 355 hp. Europe has it in diesel, US does not. No maintenance issues whatsoever. Shiftronic trans great on hills.
I LOVE IT!
I had been shopping for a new vehicle for around 3 months. I had it down to a Nissan Morano, Toyota Rav4 (6cylinder) and the Toyota Highlander. Driving home from work one night I noticed a Veracruz in the lane next to me and I liked the way it looked and decided to test drive it that weekend. I wound up buying it that day. Driving is a pleasure. Brakes are great, steering it agile, ride is smooth for a SUV. It's quick with it's 3.8 engine and it doesn't take premium gas like the Morano. Why aren't there more of these on the road? I tell everyone it's a hidden secret. Until you test drive one you'll understand why.
Hyundai will wow you!
This is our 3rd Hyundai and let me say this is one heck of a suv. To all who dont look at Veracruz before you buy, shame on you for the money and all you get this is the best buy on the market as Paul Harvey would say good day!
The Veracruz is WONDERFUL!
I looked at them all but the Veracruz was clearly the best for me. I am thoroughly satisfied with the quality and numerous features of the Limited model. I chose the FWD version to get better mileage and slightly better performance,
Veracruz Ltd
We looked at multiple vehicles - eg Mazda CX9, Ford Fusion. Overall this was the best buy by several thousand dollars given the specs. The model we chose was the AWD limited. There were few options as it already had most of them. The ride is comfortable and quiet although not exciting. Audio excellent. Fuel economy is not as good as advertised but is it ever? The exterior is stylish but the colour choices are limited. Most suprising was the internal colours which on this vehicle (Ltd) was limted to a saddle brown leather despite the dash etc being grey. Seats are comfortable, easy to move to allow exit and loading. Overall I am pleased. We have to wait for command start. Recomended.
Regret
I traded in my Santa Fe for this because Hyundai gave me the highest trade in value. The exterior was so so. The interior was great. Soft touch material. Good looking leather. It drove quiet. Infinity radio is not that impressive but ok. However, within a month, the leather starts to fade. It starts to pick up road noise. Some rattle starts to show up here and there. Most serious problem was the transmission. I heard a lot of good things about the Aisian transmission. However, my transmission has problem shifting from 3rd to 4th gear, rumbling a lot. It went back to the dealership. They told me that there was nothing wrong. They also broke their promise about loaner car. Regret
All things considered, its not great
My wife and I like the comfy seats and they are easy to adjust. There's plenty of room all around. The layout is good and the build quality and materials on par with the Ford Edge and Saturn Outlook. Good A/C. The ride is fairly smooth and its quiet inside. We were surprised to see the gas go so fast especially in the city when it returned only 13-14 miles per gallon average. Not very good. We are not impressed with the reliability or warranty coverage either. The dealers are all unethical. They charged us for things we never needed when we brought it in for warranty items; the trans would not shift out of park and was flat bedded, dealer charged us $850 for brake pads! Poor resale!
Too many recalls
The first couple of months it was fun to drive; we enjoyed the comfort, quietness and styling, until the recall notifications start to come. In the two year span that we owned it we have about 4 recalls. Then the last incident is the one that really prompt me to dump the vehicle, it wont drive faster than 5 miles per hour, turn it off and then re-start it and it will drive normal. then you drive it again and while it is moving at various speeds, it will just quit on you and will not go no more than 5 MPH. They fixed it for free, and finally traded it in for TOYOTA VENZA. I don't think I will buy another Hyundai, even if they guarantee it for 200,000 miles
New car won't start
We bought this car on October 29 and had to have it towed on October 30 because it would not start. It supposedly was repaired on october 30, but on October 31 it would not start again. On November 1, it would not start until we worked with it for fifteen minutes. On November 2, it is being towed again because it will not start at all. Be very concerned about the electrical system in these cars.
Lemonade
What a disappointing piece of junk. If you buy Hyundai, you best buy two as one will always be in the shop. I made lemonade with mine!
2008 Veracruz
Over one year service and so far no problems. A very quite and smooth drive.
good value
very happy with the purchase. 8k off base gls. Great overall value for the money. While the overall feel is luxurious.
Good Vehicle for Price
Bravo Hyundai! Nothing beats haggling with car dealers, I spent 3 weeks pulling my dealers leg, and finally settled on a 2008 GLS with the Premium package for $21,000, tax, registration and doc fees were extra. What a steal! Car is wonderfully built with a 6 cylinder engine, roomy, and 3 rows of seating! Big 17" wheels, wood wrapped dash and doors, sunroof, heated seats! At nighttime there is a mood light and cup holders and ashtray lights too! No doubt this car is the envy of all crossovers! Car handles wonderfully. Responsive steering. Never thought I would buy non-American, but I'm glad I did. Test drive one, you won't be disappointed!
