It's not a car, it's a feeling.

Let me start by saying that for the most part, the reviews on these wicked little cars are true.  Living in Oklahoma, I can personally guarantee the ride quality is less than perfect. I also have several vertically inclined comrades, making the backseat a little tight in the headroom department. That being said, this wonderful disaster of a machine does exactly what it was designed to do. Don't expect the rear passenger volume and ride quality of a plush family sedan. The inspiration for Veloster isn't derived from the soul of other hot hatch, instead from that of a sports bike. It's driving dynamics tell that story very well. She's very quick to roast the tires (1st and 2nd gear), smack your head on the headrest, give you some truly wild cornering (thanks to the turbo's torque vectoring control), all while piping a modest amount of that rude engine/exhaust note through Veloster's 450 watt sound system. I searched car after car before I found Veloster. Cars I just knew I was going to buy. Mazda 3, Nissan Sentra SR, and even the Dodge Dart GT. All of these are great cars, but... Shortly after I entered the two-tone leather appointed cabin, opened the nearly entire roof's worth of sunroof, mashed the gas pedal, and dumped that buttery clutch... I fell in love with that feeling. A feeling no car I was considering could provide. Finally, take into consideration what you need this car for and where or how you'll be using it. Take an extended test drive if possible and really decide if this car was made for you. It didn't take me long to figure out it was made for me.

I bought my veloster turbo a couple of months ago and thought it was time for a review. I have never been disappointed in this car and I love the way it drives. I average about 34mpg combined! And I still have enough power to accelerate and pass when I need to. The sound system is pretty good especially on xm radio. There is plenty of trunk space, especially with the back seats down. Everyone looks at my car as I roll by and I have not seen another veloster turbo in nor cal since I have bought it. I love that this car is really uncommon. From a stop, the car will pull you back into the seat as you race the engine! If youre looking for an economical car with some power, this is it!

Fun to drive, annoying to maintain

I owned the car for two years now and my overall opinion is it is a fun car to drive around and open up every now and then but I'm becoming increasingly annoyed with how often the car develops minor problems. This is the second winter in a row where the clock fails to keep the time after the car is shut off. I have taken it to the dealer before and they fixed it the next day with no problem. One year later, I am having the same problem! The infotainment system is laughably pathetic. I've had nothing but issues with it. After a year of owning the car, I've had numerous incidents where the whole system would lock up and fail to turn off or restart. A few months later, I noticed the left tweeter died. Shortly after, the right tweeter died. After four or five trips to the dealer who couldn't figure out the problem, they finally determined the amp was at fault and they replaced it. I am not one to blast music- the volume never really gets above 12 on the car so please don't think that I just blast the music all the time then complain when the speakers stop working... Aside from the infotainment, the windscreen area squeaks and creaks incredibly loud when the temperature drops below about 50 Fahrenheit. I have tried many times to remedy the problem with felt tape around the cowl area but have only had marginal success. This car is really not a fan of the cold! Overall, I would recommend this car to someone who lives in a warm climate and doesn't mind a peaky engine. (The car has no trouble going from a rolling start up to high speeds in no time, but from a dead stop, you will notice a significant lag in power.) This may be the car for you if you want random people on the street commenting on your "cool little car" and asking "how do you like that thing?" It really does a good job at catching eyes of passerby's but has sadly lost my interest after 2 years of ownership.

I've had mine for a little over a year now, and still love it. It has some small quirks that are easy to fix with a bit of aftermarket, so the car is FANTASTIC if that's your thing. Easy to add power and handling capabilities, and the car takes them well. At 1 year of ownership, still have had zero mechanical problems that have sent me to the dealer. The car is fun and comfortable for cross-country driving, too. The MPG estimate is also pretty conservative, I average higher than EPA estimates.

If you purchased a Veloster expecting it to be anything other than what it is, you deluded yourself. Blaming the car for your unrealistic expectations is weak minded and petty. I've had mine for about a year and a half. I still look back at it every time I park it. I've put about 22,000 miles on it. It never gets boring or unfun to drive. In the time I've had it, I've had one warranty problem. The fan motor switch went bad. The local dealership replaced it in less than an hour. I upgraded the air intake with a K&N air filter. Which helped the throttle response quite a bit. I recently replaced the OEM tires at 48,000 miles with Indy Firehawk 500s. Size 225/40R18. The new tires did drop my fuel mileage a little. But it is easy to compensate for this. Road noise is a common complaint with this car. But if you want to be completely isolated from the road while driving, that's your loss. Fuel mileage is phenomenal! I average 20-30 mpg around town in stop and go driving with sensible driving habits. On the highway I have no problem achieving and sustaining 40-50 mpg. Again with sensible driving habits. Even when I get on the throttle, the fuel mileage only drops by 5-10 mpg. The car does not disappoint when being driven with spirit within its limits. Which obviously are not those of a Corvette or Ferrari, lol. One of the other reasons I purchased a Veloster was it does not look like every other hatchback. Different is always good! In summation, I am very pleased with the car and I fully intend to keep it until I pay it off. There is little I would change about it. And to be fair, those changes I would make are minor enough to be insignificant to most people.
