Good car
I just wanted to say that I have had Chevy products before I bought this Sonata and all I can say so far that this is a great car. I enjoy driving it and I would recomend this car to any one.
Move Over Honda Accord Look Out Acura TL
This car is HOT! Totally redesigned, better engine/gas mileage and performance over previous models....Spend the extra money on the LX, there is not one feature it lacks, and this car is totally turning heads! We are the first purchaser of the LX in Western Washington, people aren't sure if they are looking at a new Accord or TL. The back looks like Accord tail lights, but TL bumper/dual exhaust. We bought the dark metallic blue, with beige interior, of course with sunroof and upgraded audio......every option available for $23K, same options on Accord is $30, and $33 for TL. It drives great, is fast, has get up and go, 235 HP! It flies, is comfy, and very stylish and sporty. Get one!

I Love My Sonata
I love the car.
The best deal around! I love it!
So far the car has been excellent in the 3 months I have owned it. In my opinion it is the BEST bang for your buck out there. If you are looking into buying an Accord, Camry or any other "midsize" sedan, do yourself a favor and test drive the Sonata. It's a better car for less money. The engine has plenty of punch to it for a 4 cyl and it gives a very quiet, smooth, and comfortable ride. I love the way the car looks too. It truly is "a Hyundai like you have never seen before".
Who would have thought...
I was going to buy the standby, you know, Nice Accord with all the extras (Camry was too squishy) and low and behold I checked out the new Sonata on a lark. The joke was on me because I drove off the lot in one - I loved it that much...
Totally Awesome
This car is very smooth and powerful. It has a much nicer appeal than accord or camry. You can't beat the price and quality and warranty. I love everything about this car.
Compares well to two Maximas
At 30K mi in 3 years, I have absolutely no complaints. The power/smoothness/quiet/comfortable ride & build quality have made the V6 Sonata a pleasure to own. The only repair so far has been the driver's sun visor, which was replaced under warranty, and Hyundai has a redesign that corrected the flaw. Hyundai's 60K mi bumper to bumper warranty is much better than the competition's. The engine burns zero oil, and holds 6 quarts. I get 27-28 MPG hwy consistently, & 22.1 MPG on my 20 mi commute to work. My car is loaded, and a comparably equipped Camry would have cost me $36K. Mine was delivered for $19.2K. How can you beat the value? I'd buy another Sonata in a heart beat!
Driving is believing
compared camry, accord, and altima, and there is no comparison!!! great get up and go. nicely appointed. thought a car with this quality would be $3000 more, but was greatly surprised. and the warranty!!!!!
Great car spoiled by driver seat
Quiet, yet powerful ride. Great build quality, Lots of room, inside, and in the trunk. However, almost all overshadowed by the very uncomfortable driver seat.
Real Deal
Traded in my 02 gls - accel, handling MUCH improved, although the overall ride may be marginally compromised re: smoothness. But, safety features + solid fit & finish w/ all the modern amenities make this a no brainer in this class. Style has grown on me - wife commented it was a "snazzy" car. For the $$ you can't beat it.
Love the car
Out the door price just over 23K! And I get ESC, TC, EBDS, Homelink, Heated Leather Seats, over-sized Moon Roof (it's big), subwoofer & amp. Car is very well built and the fit & finish is better than Camry, on par w/ Accord. The interior is soft to the touch. Love the way the engine growls, especially in low rpm's. Lots of low end torque for fast acceleration from dead stop. Downshifts smoothly during high speed passing. Nav is a $2500 dollar dealer installed option. Remove cd changer & replace w/ 8-9" screen. (visit Korean Hyundai site to see it) Hyundai uses Eclipse deck (very high quality, installing next month)
Picky Mechanic
I've been working on cars for 27 years and needed a car to drive because my ride desided to call it quits !!!so i went out and test drove approx. 15 or so 4 door sedans pontiac ford chevy saturn honda toyota. After all of those test drives you'd think one could find a car for 20.000 to 25.000 that was a QUALITY car.then I test drove MY 2006 hyundai sonata gls. WOW !! PLENTY OF POWER VERY ROOMY INSIDE GAUGES & CONTROLS WHERE NEEDED !!GO DRIVE ONE OF THESE.
The commercial was right!
The commercial says this is a Hyundai like you've never seen before and let me tell you, that ain't no joke. I've driven Accords, Camrys and, Altimas too. This car handles like a dream and is as smooth as butter. An all new, all aluminum 235hp V6, traction control, stability control, 4 wheel disks with ABS at all 4 wheels. Are you sure this is a Hyundai? If you buy an Accord, Camry, or Altima and you don't drive this car, You will be missing out. A V6 with duel exhaust! I love it! It truly is a Hyundai like you've never seen before.
Its OK for the price.
Great styling inside and out. Great safety features for any vehicle class. Good color options. 4-Speed SHIFTRONIC Automatic is fun, but it has some lag. Handling is OK but could use some improvment. Seems to need the electronic stablity control all the time. Steering definitly needs to be more responsive. large cabin space is a plus. It feels like a larger car, unfortunatly it drives lik one too. Projection style headlights offer good lighting at close range, but are lacking at moderate distance.
Great fuel, great warranty
I was looking for an inexpensive car that would take a beating. I own a farm on a dirt road but drive a distance on expressways to get there. My Sonata gets great mileage, especially around 60 MPH. The few minor problems I have had have been fixed for free and without a long wait. Exactly what I was looking for from a warranty.
bang for buck
Bought the 06 lx new off the floor in Aug 05 after owning an 02 sonata. Much improved power, handling, style. Gas mileage was not improved - due to improved power. My wife's car is a MB E320 and yes, a far better ride, but, considering you could buy 2 1/2 sonatas for the same price . Its not sexy, but the safety features, warranty, and thus far reliability (40K) can't be beat. I'm impressed with Hyundai - put a different badge on this car and the price would jump $15K.
Still happy after 3 years
Very attractive and reliable car. Have put 36K miles on it in 3 years and have been very please with overall performance. Only issues have been minor. Has excellent power for a 4- banger and gets great mileage (esp on the open road). Switch on power seat and a brake light switch have had to be replaced; other than that - nothing. Only complaint is that the car sits so low to ground that it makes changing own oil a challenge.
You Gotta Sonata!
Purchased it last month, and absolutely luv it. Stylish good looks, my buddy saw it from the side and remarked "oh, you got a 5 series bimmer". It rocks. Very quick, great warranty, great looks. I got the LX with heated seats, larger wheels, leather.
Sonata Shortcomings
Gas mileage is suspect. While local driving is OK, highway mileage is low. I've gotten 25 MPG when driving on Interstates at the posted speed limits. When I asked about the mileage, I was told that the tests were done with 91 octane, which is not mentioned on the window sticker. It is in the owner's manual, but one does not see that until he/she is the owner. Frankly, I was disappointed that I can only get the low end of the mileage range with the recommended octane gas--87 octane. I don't believe the warranty lives up to the hype. If it does, why do I need to pay $1593 for additional warranty coverage?
Thank you Hyundai!
I researched for months before the final purchase. We have owned many vehicles in the past, 7 Toyotas. I have now changed my opinion and have become a believer in Hyundai. The Sonata was built with alot of thought and it shows. If your in the market for a new car you should do yourself a favour and take it for a spin. Your bank account will be glad you did!
Great car at a good price
I highly recomend this car. The design turns heads, the interior is spacious and comfortable, the ride is smooth and responsive. The sunroof and mproved radio option is worth the money. I traded a 2003 Snata, which was a very good car but underpowered. Miles per gallon are short of advertised. I live in Florida and the airconditioner is very important, this car has cold air even in 95 degree weather.
One word - Awesome!
Traded in our 2004 Hyundai Sonata straight up for this 2006 SEV6. Have owned for just over 2 years now. The dealer replaced oil injector (pre- luber) and right front strut at 2 years.(Warranty, baby) Other than that, no other problems, period. May trade in for a 2009 if they can pry me away from this one. ;) Biggest complaint is the road noise when driving on concrete surfaced roads, pavement isn't to bad. The stock 17" Michelin tires wear out quickly...will not buy those as replacements.
Upgrade from Elantra to Sonata
This car is well equipped and is fun to drive. It truly delivers a smooth ride and is worth every cent. In fact, I've gotten a lot looks from other motorists and they are very impressed with its new design. The dual crome exhaust pipes are also awesome as it gives the car a fierce look. I can't wait to see what Hyundai delivers in the future.
Great value for the money
Look and drive like a 30K car for under 20K after rebate. You can't get more for your money.
Owner From S.Korea
I current own a Korean-built New Sonata aka NF Sonata in Korea. It is an absolutely hot ride. I used to have 03 Honda Accord. But Sonata is a winner! Two thumbs up..
Sweet Ride
I traded in my 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ Rally for this car because my Lancer was very underpowered. I looked at this and said wow this is sweet!!! I love this car!!! Props to Hyundai for making such a stylish vehicle. I got nearly everything for $15039 after the trade in!
I Love My Car
My 1998 Mazda died and I looked for a used one, but way too expensive. Happened upon the Hyundai, reluctantly went into the dealership. He took me for a ride and I thought, there's gotta be something wrong with this car. The dealer sent me home with it for the day and I went back the next day and took it for the day. Incredible is all I can say. Love it... I'm short so I can never see where I am going. This car is amazing. I don't even have to turn around when backing up cuz I just look in the rear view mirror. The ride is like gliding on a glass slipper. I call it my Cinderella car and it didn't break my bank buying it. Wish the gas mileage was a bit better, but I can live with it.
Buy it! You will love the 2006 Sonata!
I originally was in the market for a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry. The reviews for the 2006 Sonata caught my eye and I decided to give it a test drive. This is a GREAT car! I test drove the Accord and Camry the same day as the Sonata. The Hyundai is the most quiet, refined, comes with the most included options, and is several thousand dollars under the competition! Not to mention the best warranty in the business. I am very happy thus far with my purchase and was pleasantly surprised when I realized how large the trunk really is after a recent shopping trip. If you want a very roomy, sporty, refined sedan this is the car for you!
Check this car out!
The warranty speaks for itself. More room than Accord, killer V6, great gas mileage and good looks. The Sonata is one the the best affordable sedan's I have driven. Take a look at this car!
WOW WHAT A CAR
research prior to purchase indicated this is a good car. Took a trip through the rocky mtns. just after purchase, great performance, lots of room, comfort, safety features, and the 5 year warranty. I love this car. Have had lots of positive comments from passers-by, friends etc. Great value for the price.
smart buy
A pleasure to drive on long trips, comfortable for my size 6'3" 240 lbs..People are amazed that it it a Hyundai!
Hyundai strikes big
After much research, i decided to test drive the Hyundai sonata. Wow Hyundai you really did a great job with this car. style, performance, safety, and it looks great.I was sold when i hit the accelerator.
'06 Sonata, just a great overall vehicle
After comparing similar sedans (Honda, Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, VW & Ford) I was very surprized I would even consider a Hyundai. After reading the steller reviews on Edmunds and other sites & publications, I had to try one out for myself. I could not believe what a refined vehicle this was. I've driven plenty of quality vehicles from BMW, Audi and the above makes, and this Sonata is as solid as most anything I've driven. The doors were very heavy and the ride extremely quiet (similar to my fathers' Audi A6). With the best warranty, largest interior and great looks, it was a very easy decision making the Sonata GLS-V6 our next car. I'd look into one while they're still a bargain~better hurry!!!
Great Car
We have had this for four months now and love this car. Performance, handling, and ride comfort are outstanding. The mp3 player will also play wma's. The only complaint is fuel mileage. Don't expect good mileage from this car. We have averaged just over 20 MPG. You should test drive this before you buy anything else.
Hyundai needs new badge.
When I first saw this car through commercial, I thought "well thats a good looking car from hyundai". I didn't really care, until I saw a silver one on the road. I was in the market for a relatively reliable, all-around characteristic, and bang-for-the-buck sedan, so I visited Hyundai dealership right away. I was blown away when I first saw it, and I was in love with it when I got inside of it. I bought it after I test drove it. Do I need to say more? H is no long solely standing for Honda anymore. There is something called Hyundai coming very fast. I was never fan of hyundai. I heard few people saying its a nice car. Now, I believe it.
Very happy with this car!
I just bought this car last week, and I have to say it has to be one of the coolest cars I've ever owned! You cannot believe all of the features you can get on this car, all for under $25,000 dollars! Took it to the hand car wash and the man at the window looked in the camera screen and said "you own the Audi?" Wow! The car looks great and runs even better, what a great car and a great deal.
AWESOME CAR!
This is the smoothest, easiest car I have ever owned. I love it!
One Hell Of A Car
I first saw the 2006 Hyundai on a T.V. Commercial. The body styling impressed me th most. It looked a lot better than the Accord & Camrys. The exhaust system isn't dangling underneath it as the Accord. Its not cheaply put together and it has nothing that takes away from its physique such as a cheap radio antenna protruding off the front end. Dollar for dollar, the 2006 Sonata leaps ahead of the competition. Hat's off to the designers, I've got nothing but compliments and that warranty is unmatched. Losing my Chevy Tahoe for the Sonata has been worth it!
Surprisingly fun
Hyundai Sonata fun? You bet! I would have never thought that I could get 80% of an A6 for less than half the price. This car has people staring trying to figure out who makes it. I thoroughly enjoy the comfort, quietness and overall performance of this vehicle and would recommend it to anyone looking for a sporty midsized car with a modest, but stunning look.
Hyundai Heaven
I love my new car! I commute from the country to the city every day. This car handles the hills and winding backroads of the country, to the faster stretches of highway, to the stop-and-go traffic of the city with grace and beauty. I can't wait for a holiday, so I can take a long trip with my family in this spacious car. (The trunk is huge, too!!!) My husband loves the way it drives too, and is always trying to borrow it. (His truck is only a year old!) And you know its a hit when a teenage daughter gives her seal of approval.
Great Car
Test Drove Camry, Altima, Accord. The Sonata was by far the best of the bunch
Hyundai can handle its own
We were skeptical when we bought our Hyundai. When Hyundai first came out years ago, I referred to them as "throw away" cars. I really wanted a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord, but I couldn't afford one. I liked the new look of the Sonata and i was in the right place at the right time. We love our car. Hyundai is keeping up with its competitors - The Camry and the Accord. We are pleased
A Challenge to the Japanese
A superbly-engineered vehicle with a full range of accessories, comfort, and power for less than $23,000.
"A TEN IN MY BOOK"
This is the second sonata I purchased with even better quality than 05 model. I bought the 06 4 cylinder GL model that drives like the V6. Others could not beat the ride, price-value, style or 5yr 60,000 bumper to bumper warranty.
2006 SONATA GLS (LOVE IT)
This is my first Hyundia and i love it. It has a smooth ride and the 3.3L engine has more power than you would expect. This car is loaded with cool and smart features. The safety concerns bulit in this car is first class all the way. Do yourself a favor and atleast go to a dealer and check out what this car offers. I did it and love the smart choice i made.
a better car than Camry or Accord
I like the PRICE, WARRANTY, PAINT JOB, PERFORMANCE, safety features, interior, exterior, QUIETNESS, design, interior features, options, 17in rims and the STYLING. I have never been this excited about getting a new car. It's a good family car, as well as, a single man's car. Classy yet Sporty. Very Practical.
Better than the rest
Traded in an 05 Sonata which was an excellent vehicle but the 06 just rocks. Much better than anything else I have owned. Build quality and drivability is a top. I would reccomend to anyone. Paid $20,100 for the LX V6 with the sunroof and sound package. Nothing comes close.
A great automobile at a great price.
This is a handsome quality vehicle, well-appointed inside, possessing every safety feature I was looking for, at a remarkably low price and with an exceptionally robust warranty. The 4 cylinder has plenty of power and is quiet while cruising at 75 mph. Mileage is somewhat disappointing in the city and is not particulary great on the highway, considering it's a four. In a nutshell, hat's off to Hyundai for bringing this great car to the American market.
Comfort is so so
I have owned my car for 17 months, bought is at 13k miles, now at 38,500k. So far it's been very reliable except for one issue. It has a tendency to cut out or have minor hesitation when going up hills. Dealership says nothing is wrong, not hard coding. I use the 100% gas (non ethanol)and it seems to help. The front seats lack comfort. My back quickly starts hurting on trips, I must use a small pillow for the lumbar area. Have already had the following replaced: Driver side door lock, sun visor and window assembly.
Crashed Approved
This is my second review. Wife and daughter T-boned a lady driving a Saturn Outlook doing 50 MPH in our Sonata GLS, then spun out into a ditch. Based on the damage our car was totaled. The Sonata held up very well, all 4 doors would still open and the front end crumple zones took the impact very well. I was very impressed with the safety of the vehicle, both wife and daughter walked away pretty much unharmed. I would buy another Sonata based on this alone, including other features like the fun to drive, comfort and reliability factor. BEST car on the market for the money, hands down.
