One Heck of a Contenda!

Ohmigosh - Hyundai have shocked the heck out of me. This is a fabulous car, no doubt about it. If you can get over badge snobbery, and are in the market for a new family sedan with some punch check this car out. It is as good as Honda or Toyota, and is far more feature rich than either of the Accord or Camry. Hyundai is close to setting the standard here.

Honestly, I've only had this car a few days but I truly love it. We got an LX in Golden Beige and it is beautiful. The engine is quiet and responsive. And the deal I got after having 2 dealers fight for my business made my decision even easier. I'm leasing it for 27months but with the warranty being offered by Hyundai, I'm seriously considering buying this car at lease end.

Great car but with rattles

The 2006 car is my fourth Hyundai and undoubtedly the best. It is also the most expensive so I expected a better ride, beter everything and it lived up to all the hype produced by Hyundai, almost. It still rattles over rough roads and lets you know it does not care much about the somewhat harsh ride over such roads by producing the noise. It handles better, is smoother shifting, and has more than enough power to get you into trouble with the law if you can afford such adventures. This car even gets a wee bit more gas milage than the others with a much bigger and more refined engine. There will probably be a fifth Hyundai someday.

The 4 cylinder, 2.4 Sonata is a good performer, powerful enough to get me from home to work, driving on city streets or on the highway. The car is stable and quiet driving 80 mph, the brakes are superb, and in general, the many SAFETY features, like the extra air bags and curtains, ABS, Traction Control, and especially ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) make it an EXCELLENT buy. The gas mileage is very good on the highway (well over 30 mpg). It's a SEXY car. I first saw the new Sonata from behind, and fell in love with the design.... I'd say the Sonata gives you the SAME CAR as the Accord (we own one) and Camry -- and yet it has MORE SAFETY FEATURES than both -- for $3,000-$4,000 less.

My wife and I have been driving her Honda Accord since 1998, so when I bought my Sonata in March '08 used w/ 18k miles for just over $15k, I was holding my breath a little that I wasn't getting 'sucked in" to the hype. Four months and 4000 miles later, welllll???? Maybe a tad. This car has amazing power, great interior and exterior looks. Build quality doesn't come close to Honda, though. I guess it's true. You get what you pay for. The paint job is maybe the worst I've seen on any car..there's a big money saving area for Hyundai. Also, sheet metal is thin. I even have a little metal bubble on the drivers floorboard that "pops" when I push off to get out of the car. 20mpg city/30 pure hwy.

This 235 horse Sonata is better than I expected. It is faster, smoother, and I guess bigger. The road handles great especially in the highway. At 70-80 mph, the road noise was exceptionally reduced. Compared to my old Accord, Sonata is much better in quality, price, warranty, features, power, room, comfort, almost every detail in Sonata beats Accord. It is too bad there is no manual for V6s. There is a shiftronic, but what's the difference with automatic if it shifts by itself in the redline? You have to test drive this amazing machine before you go anywhere else, you just might be in a surprise...

We have put 70,000 miles on this car in five years and our only expenses have been gas, oil changes and a new set of tires. It still has its original breaks. I drove it hard on a 1,500 mile interstate highway trip and averaged 33.1 mpg. When ethanol is added to the gas the mileage is not as good. I thought it was odd that a four cylinder car would have a 150 MPH speedometer. After I had the car three years a friend asked me how fast it would go. I was on a country road and when it reached 122 mph I backed off, so I don't know what it will really do. Also, this was with ethanol in the tank.

The car is an excellent value for the $. Very roomy, quiet, pleasant ride. Stands up well to other cars in category I test drove (Accord, Camry, etc.). The safety features are a major plus (ABS, ESP, airbags everywhere, childseat-ready back, etc). Good commuter car. Not super agile or fast, but more than adequate for typical driving. Plan to keep the car for many years if it holds up, as Hyundai (and their super warranty) seem to believe it will.

After EXTENSIVE research, I chose the Hyundai over Accord and Camry. Cost was over $4000 less and it had features I couldn't get with those models. Great Highway Car. V6 is Very Powerful and Torquey and a pleasure to drive. Extremely quiet, even with sunroof open. Gas Mileage is about 25 MPG overall with 75% highway (75 mph with air on). Considering Horsepower, quite acceptable. Dash is well laid out and easy to read in all light conditions. Controls are intuitive and seats are comfortable. Full featured, well options, superior handling, powerful car that looks good for a great low price. HIGHLY recommend.

I previously owned a 2001 Elantra GLS, which I drove from 31k to 191k on the odometer. I bought this Sonata with 25k on the odo. Hopefully it can get me beyond 191k. I love the bigger engine, even though there is a little sacrifice with fuel economy. The car is put together very well and is a great car for highway driving. Granted, the suspension doesn't shield noise as well as the Accord, but given the price difference, it's hard to justify buying the Japanese brands. For the money, this car is difficult to beat.

I have an 06 Sonata with the 6 cylinder. I have had one emission issue with the car at 70k miles (I had to pay for the repair). I purchased my first set of tires at 68 k miles and I just had the brakes inspected @ 74 k and front and rear are at 75% new. Besides the normal maintenance (bulbs, wiper blades), I’ve had to repair under warranty the w/s wiper pump, and a couple of check engines until I had the gas cap thing down. I love this car, so I bought my fifth Hyundai and second Sonata today. The 06 car handles well, has great pick up and gives even more with the shift- tronic. Plenty of drivers leg room with easy cabin controls. Great braking and the ESC and multiple air bags a plus.

If american car makers tried as hard as hyundai to win over buyers they wouldn't be in the mess they are in now.I have bought american cars for 25 years. Not anymore. Poor reliability and high cost to maintain finally forced me to look elsewhere. I did my research and found a winner in the sonata. Excellent value! Great warranty and quality workmanship. The car has a smooth and quiet ride, handles nicely and the V-6 with the shiftronic transmision makes it fun to drive. I don't think you can find a better car for the money.

Personally, I would not have considered purchasing a Hyundai until the current generation Sonata was released in 2006. The rave reviews it received persuaded me to give the car a chance. My, how my opinion has changed... What a wonderful vehicle! It has the silky smoothness of drivetrain of a Camry, yet is much more involving and sporty to drive. For a young family starting out, this is a perfect vehicle. Interior space is fantastic, as is the touch and feel of materials. The 4 cylinder engine provided adequate performance - the V6 was magnificent and ended up being my choice. Throw in the 10 year/ 100,000 mile warranty and it's a no-brainer - nothing else can compete in this segment!

We had it delivered to our house today. A solid hunk of steel and technology with all available options included in the price. We paid 24385 out the door inclusive of 6 per cent Michigan sales tax. Dual exhaust, multi cd, power sunroof, seats. 235 horsepower all aluminum V6 5 speed transmission, heated seats. You name it. It has it. A 4 cylinder Honda sedan stickered at over 24 thousand without the options the Hyundai has. What a buy. What a car. Finally the 10 year 100 thousand mile warranty! What more could you ask for?

I like my Sonata, and I am happy with my purchase. However, I am not happy with the fuel economy. I have had this car for a month now, and I average about 18 mpg, even though I do mostly highway driving. I have to fill up my tank after about 280-290 miles on an 18 gallon tank. I am now thinking I should have gone with the four cylinder, but I do not regret getting a Sonata.

Until July, every car I owned had at least 140,000 miles when I bought it. I did a lot of research and comparisons, and my Sonata ended up being fully loaded for just about the same price as a base model of Camry, Accord and Legacy. The car has the interior comfort and size of a full- size/luxury car. It gets good milage given the size & power of the engine. The features (power everything - including driver seat - the sunroof, the size of the trunk, etc.) are amazing, and are a deal that you can't and shouldn't pass up.

I had this car for almost 4 years and just traded it for an Azera. I do not have many complaints. There were only a few warranty repairs. The dealer always honored the warranty despite what some people say. My 4-cyl felt more like 192 horsepower than 162. There was ample power 95% of the time. The 4 speed auto was smooth and the manual mode worked well, if a bit slow. Averaged 30-33 MPG on trips and 16-20 MPG in city driving only. The ride was comfortable, but the car could have used a bit more structural rigidity (a few squeaks and rattles). Interior comfort was also good and noise levels were low unless you really wound up the engine. Doing your own maintenance is also simple.

Nice car and good price after incentives. Good engine power and smooth transmission. Much standard equipment. Terrible gas mileage- 20.7 mpg best ever achieved on highway, not even close to the promised 30 mpg, which was a strong reason for the purchase. Very noticeable engine lag on acceleration. Distressing suspension noise intrudes in the cabin on uneven surfaces, and busy ride. Too much body lean on curves. Loud knock in dashboard. Steering feels heavy. Seat comfort is disappointing. A and B trips? Where's B? Heavy initial lift of trunk lid.

I researched this car for 4 mos. before buying, only regret, not buying it sooner!! I was raised in a family of (american)auto enthusiasts, and used to really love driving. Haven't since 1980...UNTIL NOW!! It's fun to drive, avg. 30mpg, smooth quiet luxury sedan mounted on a sports car frame. Got the GLS 4cyl 4spd auto. 10,000 mi in the first 3 months-no squeaks, thumps or any problems!! Love it, took my mom back to the dealer a week later & she got a Hyundai too!

So far the car has been excellent in the 3 months I have owned it. In my opinion it is the BEST bang for your buck out there. If you are looking into buying an Accord, Camry or any other "midsize" sedan, do yourself a favor and test drive the Sonata. It's a better car for less money. The engine has plenty of punch to it for a 4 cyl and it gives a very quiet, smooth, and comfortable ride. I love the way the car looks too. It truly is "a Hyundai like you have never seen before".

We spent considerable time researching mid-size cars before going for a road test. We narrowed our choice to a Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata. After the road test we decided on the Sonata because of its comfort, how it handled on the road, and its performance. We wanted a 4 cyl., but also enough power to handle and perform well. We have not been disappointed at all. The Sonata is a wonderful car for its price, comfort, handling and performance. We have gotten 26 mpg for around town and 34 mpg on the highway. For a couple or a small family, this is an ideal mid- size car.

I have had many cars from Cadillacs to TR6's. Few have continued to attract me to want to drive more often. It is truly "driver friendly". In black it gives the appearance of a more costly vehicle. Passing power is impressive, as is it's excellent braking system. Audio controls on steering wheel lacks station changing mode. Also, radio is placed where air/heat controls should be. I am averaging about 17-18.5 city, and between 24 and 25 highway @ (75- 78 mph.) If Hyundai ever goes upscale to Lexus status i will buy one. Until then, I am quite satisfied.

Out the door price just over 23K! And I get ESC, TC, EBDS, Homelink, Heated Leather Seats, over-sized Moon Roof (it's big), subwoofer & amp. Car is very well built and the fit & finish is better than Camry, on par w/ Accord. The interior is soft to the touch. Love the way the engine growls, especially in low rpm's. Lots of low end torque for fast acceleration from dead stop. Downshifts smoothly during high speed passing. Nav is a $2500 dollar dealer installed option. Remove cd changer & replace w/ 8-9" screen. (visit Korean Hyundai site to see it) Hyundai uses Eclipse deck (very high quality, installing next month)

Bought the 06 lx new off the floor in Aug 05 after owning an 02 sonata. Much improved power, handling, style. Gas mileage was not improved - due to improved power. My wife's car is a MB E320 and yes, a far better ride, but, considering you could buy 2 1/2 sonatas for the same price . Its not sexy, but the safety features, warranty, and thus far reliability (40K) can't be beat. I'm impressed with Hyundai - put a different badge on this car and the price would jump $15K.

Very attractive and reliable car. Have put 36K miles on it in 3 years and have been very please with overall performance. Only issues have been minor. Has excellent power for a 4- banger and gets great mileage (esp on the open road). Switch on power seat and a brake light switch have had to be replaced; other than that - nothing. Only complaint is that the car sits so low to ground that it makes changing own oil a challenge.

Gas mileage is suspect. While local driving is OK, highway mileage is low. I've gotten 25 MPG when driving on Interstates at the posted speed limits. When I asked about the mileage, I was told that the tests were done with 91 octane, which is not mentioned on the window sticker. It is in the owner's manual, but one does not see that until he/she is the owner. Frankly, I was disappointed that I can only get the low end of the mileage range with the recommended octane gas--87 octane. I don't believe the warranty lives up to the hype. If it does, why do I need to pay $1593 for additional warranty coverage?

Pleased in almost every way with new 06 V6 LX Sonata. It drives great and looks great. No problems after 5,000 miles. Gas mileage is a bit disappointing getting only about 26 mpg highway. Steering wheel radio controls should be improved to allow changing between preset channels and the trip computer controls should be added to the steering wheel radio controls like those found on other cars. Many impressive safety features like stability control and dual side airbags aren't even available on most other cars in class. Overall all I love the car. I have no regrets in trading in my 2003 Nissan Altima which was a good car but didn't hold a candle to Sonata's builty quality or performance.

I first saw the new Sonata a year ago from behind, and thought to myself, this is a BEAUTY! Hyundai has been known for building better and better cars every year, so when my old Accord started giving me trouble, I knew the Sonata will be a good choice for the next 5-6-7 years... I've been driving Camrys for years. We now also own an '05 V6 Accord -- and driving the Sonata I feel in no way like driving an inferior car!

The 2006 was a buy back from Hyundai for us from a 2005 that was in the shop more then it was on the street. The 2005 was truely in the shop constantly. With much negoitiation, the 2005 was bought back and replaced with a new 2006. The 2006 is a much better car, more room, more power and better styling. The motor is responsive on the bottom end but seems to lag a little after the initial acceleration. The only problem so far is the back power window cable broke after about a 1000 miles. No other issues so far. This is the forth Hyundai we have had over many years and the 2006 is far superior over the first one we had when Hyundai first sold in the states. That one was a real dog!

When I first saw this car through commercial, I thought "well thats a good looking car from hyundai". I didn't really care, until I saw a silver one on the road. I was in the market for a relatively reliable, all-around characteristic, and bang-for-the-buck sedan, so I visited Hyundai dealership right away. I was blown away when I first saw it, and I was in love with it when I got inside of it. I bought it after I test drove it. Do I need to say more? H is no long solely standing for Honda anymore. There is something called Hyundai coming very fast. I was never fan of hyundai. I heard few people saying its a nice car. Now, I believe it.

I just bought this car last week, and I have to say it has to be one of the coolest cars I've ever owned! You cannot believe all of the features you can get on this car, all for under $25,000 dollars! Took it to the hand car wash and the man at the window looked in the camera screen and said "you own the Audi?" Wow! The car looks great and runs even better, what a great car and a great deal.

Hyundai Sonata fun? You bet! I would have never thought that I could get 80% of an A6 for less than half the price. This car has people staring trying to figure out who makes it. I thoroughly enjoy the comfort, quietness and overall performance of this vehicle and would recommend it to anyone looking for a sporty midsized car with a modest, but stunning look.

We were skeptical when we bought our Hyundai. When Hyundai first came out years ago, I referred to them as "throw away" cars. I really wanted a Toyota Camry or a Honda Accord, but I couldn't afford one. I liked the new look of the Sonata and i was in the right place at the right time. We love our car. Hyundai is keeping up with its competitors - The Camry and the Accord. We are pleased

This is the second sonata I purchased with even better quality than 05 model. I bought the 06 4 cylinder GL model that drives like the V6. Others could not beat the ride, price-value, style or 5yr 60,000 bumper to bumper warranty.

This is my first Hyundia and i love it. It has a smooth ride and the 3.3L engine has more power than you would expect. This car is loaded with cool and smart features. The safety concerns bulit in this car is first class all the way. Do yourself a favor and atleast go to a dealer and check out what this car offers. I did it and love the smart choice i made.

I like the PRICE, WARRANTY, PAINT JOB, PERFORMANCE, safety features, interior, exterior, QUIETNESS, design, interior features, options, 17in rims and the STYLING. I have never been this excited about getting a new car. It's a good family car, as well as, a single man's car. Classy yet Sporty. Very Practical.

Traded in an 05 Sonata which was an excellent vehicle but the 06 just rocks. Much better than anything else I have owned. Build quality and drivability is a top. I would reccomend to anyone. Paid $20,100 for the LX V6 with the sunroof and sound package. Nothing comes close.
