I traded a 1999 Mercedes SLK roadster for this car when I started my new business and needed a more practical and more reliable car. The service and quality of the Hyundai - which I paid about $16,000 for - far exceeds the Mercedes. Don't get me wrong - the Mercedes was beautiful, but the brand itself has gone downhill. I have over 50,000 miles on the Hyundai and it has been virtually without problems - the problems that I did have were fixed by the dealership. I did not expect much for $16,000, and the real world resale value is good too. Also, the stereo is amazing - better than my Mercedes. I am sure one day I will get a fancier car, but this is the best work car you can get.

The 2006 Hyundai Sonata is a great car, it is the best car for the money. My wife and I traded in our 2003 Mazda 6i which cost the same amount when we purchased it, but came with a lot less standard equipment, less quality and a lot less power (4cyl vs v-6)!

This car is a very good deal. The steering is well connected and the ABS brakes are well suited for city traffic. The seats are comfortable for both my wife and me. I like the performance fro a 4 cylinder engine. No trouble with hiway on ramps.

Since 1997, we've owned two Tiburons, an Elantra GT, and, currently, two Sonatas. This car is greatly improved over the previous generations. My wife has an '02, and there's absolutely no comparison. The ride is firm, yet supple; cornering is flat and agile; power is smooth and ample; the interior is comfortable and spacious; controls are intuitive and well-placed; there are amenities galore, and a plethora of standard safety features. All in all, not only a worthy rival to the Camry, Accord, Altima, Mazda6, G6, LaCrosse, Malibu, and Fusion, but better overall than most of these. When price and warranty are factored in, this Sonata is nearly irresistible.

After taking a test drive on the Sonata I was sold. I have been very impressed by the fit and finish of the car. I am getting the 20/30 fuel rating listed and have enjoyed riding either to the store or on the road. Has great acceleration and is fun to drive. The LX is extremely quite and has a very big feel to it. Once people start to learn more about the new Sonata they will become more popular than the Camery ar Accord. Great value, best safety features available, and excellent quality. Best kept secret around. Great job Hyundai

Now have over 27000 miles on my '06 Sonata and still love this car. It has been bullet proof so far. What impresses me the most is how smooth and quiet this car is. Except for the noise that comes from water spray on the undercarriage when it rains, this car is extremely quite. My friend owns a Lexus LS and this car is nearly as smooth and quiet as his car! Power is very good for a 4 cylinder, but is noticeable slower with the A/C running. ESC is great in the snow. Overall mileage has been 24.9 mpg with about 31 mpg on highway. Way more car for the money that with Toyota or Honda. Only issue is poor resale value. But that should improve as more people discover Hyundai.

The Santa Fe was my 1st new purchase and very happy with it. At my age I wanted something sporty and nice looking. I love my new Sonata, has everything I liked and was able to custom it for me, such as sharp chrome rims and a spoiler, and it gets lots of looks. The comfort is as good as the santa fe but the mileage is even better. but once again there's no lighting for the door lock buttons.

I hope this will be helpful. I absolutely love my Sonanta. Every where I go people are asking about it. It seems everybody is interseted but timid because of Hyundai's old reputation. Well it's gone. Before I bought my Sonata I owned a 99 Pontiac Grand Prix GT. I thought that was fun to drive but it was nothing compared to my Sonata. The Sonata is comfortable, nice styling, practical, fully loaded, fast, and the engine is very quiet even when stepping on the pedal. My advice, if you are in the sedan hunt, buy the 2006 Sonata. Hyundai is definetely taking a huge step in the auto industry. If you are looking for luxury wait a year or so Hyundai is coming out with high line to compete with Lexus, BMW and such.

After doing extensive research on several comparable models I "discovered" the Sonata on Edmunds.com and I'm sure glad I did! I hadn't considered a Hyundai, but I was willing to keep an open mind and give all the vehicles a shot. This car is very tight & solid, has great acceleration and is very pleasing to the eye. The doors close w/ a heavy thud, not a tinny feeling like some models. The interior knobs and buttons have a substantial feel to them and are placed in a logical order. The shiftronic transmission coupled w/ the V6 makes for a very fun driving experience. So many standard features for the price really make this a car you MUST consider.

The car rides and handles well. I had one problem with an oil leak the first day. It seems the oil press. sender was loose. Funny click noise from the tranny when going from reverse to drive. Not sure if this is normal. Good gas mileage avg. 27-28mpg with 80% highway driving. I wonder if some of the cars with poor fuel economy have their tires inflated properly. My tires looked flat at the recomended 30 psi. So now I have them set at 36 psi. This gives me a little less rolling resistance, but the ride is a little more harsh. I am a salesman on the road most of the day. It is a nice treat to get into this car knowing the deal on price and what the car offers in comfort and highway ride.

Traded in a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer for a V6 GLS. After 15 years of SUVs and pickup trucks, the Sonata handles like a Porsche (okay, not really). Still, the handling is crisp and the V6 winds up nicely. I drive in the Mountains a lot, and this car moves right along on steep twisting roads. Mileage (25mpg for first 1k miles) good for a V6. Bottom line - this is a VALUE purchase. There are better cars available, but not even close to this price. At some point, the Honda/Toyota brand just isn't worth it.

After test driving all the obvious competitors, I purchased my Sonata. The value and warranty are impossible to beat. I've had to deal with a few minor quirks that the dealership can't/won't fix (strange dash panel fit around the radio, rattles coming from the windshield and the rear headliner). The exterior design is nice (looks like the offspring of a late-model Accord and an Audi A4) and the interior is decent. The manual mode on my auto transmission is a bit odd - it always feels like it lags behind my input when shifting. Overall, a great car with an exceptional warranty.

I bought this car used and commute across town daily. I have had zero problems! As others have said, the fit and finish and quality of build is far better than expected. The switches feel solid. It is fast (coming from an owner of many muscle cars) and inspires confidence in traffic. I would like a bit tighter suspension, but I didn't buy it as a sports car,so that's fine. The seat felt strange for about one day, and I've found it quite comfortable in the last year. I have no problems with the AC/heater controls and radio positions that others have noted. I added a subwoofer to the factory stereo and it is incredible, and I still have lots of trunk. This car is a great value.

My 2nd sonata. Only problems have been a dead windshield washer pump and some doorlock issues, both addressed by dealer. This car is a great value, & Hyundai is a great story - they appear to be making quality vehicles at reasonable prices. Still, I enjoy our 99 e320 more, but no complaints on the brand or dealer.

I stopped in to just take a look and walked out with the paperwork. Very impressive and different feel than what I expected from a Hyundai. Pretty decent HP at 235, decent pickup and a nice feel to the car in all situations tested. Quality inside and out with a solid feel to doors and trunk lids. Loads of safety features and airbags everywhere. I was pretty impressed with the quality and the price at $23k was just an added benefit. I chose this over the Accord V6. The cars I now lease and drive include a Saab Aero 9-5 Turbo and a Mercedes E320. It is the Saab that the Sonata is replacing. Not quite as fast as my Saab Turbo but still quite acceptable and $15,000 less!!!!!!!!

First of all,I'm very proud of Hyundai. Korea is where I came from and even though I love my home country, I never thought I'd buy a Hyundai. But, I truly believe this new Sonata can kick some serious rear! (especially camry's and accord's). I bought it six months ago, so far I have no problems to report.

ALL 2006 Sonata's have door locks that will lock at about 10-15 mph. All you have to do is ask the dealer to activate this feature. It is built in. Love this car. Drives's nicew. Pickup is awesome. Wheels sometimes "twerp" if I start out a little to fast from a dead stop. Love the heated seats...nice bun warmers. And the stability control is great. Tried the same corner in wet weather with it on and off and going the same speed, with it on car took it just beautifully, off the read slid a bit and had to correct it myself. Very nice feature. Just rember you cannot over ride the laws of physics so don't go wild. Rate it top end.

This car is amazing, I got a steal of a deal, and for the price of base accord's, and camry's my care is fully loaded(v6,homelink,leather,seat heaters, auto air, sunroof, subwoofer). The car is Very fast, I totally enjoy the great pull anywhere in the rev range, and the throaty growl btw 4-5k. I'm 6'4 and can sit with the seat fully extended, and still not touch the drivers seat when i sit in the back. The mileage is amazing(34mpg going 75mph), but i noticed i get only 24mpg when i put premium in it.

I drive it a lot. Both visors failed after warranty, Hyundai wouldn't replace them. Something is rattling in the rear end, not sure what, but I think it needs shocks/struts. Windshield washer just failed. Otherwise the car is great and I would buy another. The trailer hitch kit that said "bolts on in under 30 minutes..." did!

This vehicle runs so quiet that I have to be careful not to try and start the engine again. Smooth driving, looks sharp, I wish it had a horn finder on the car keyless lock. The lights flash instead. I like the fact I can key into the mirror area my garage code, our homeowners gate access code, and my mothers garage code so I don't have to carry remotes. A great looking dash. I also like the shift feature for town driving. The dealership salesforce were not vultures. And I liked the price with the great warranty. Gas mileage, with air on and 80mph was 28.5 with cruise. Would probably be better at a decent speed.

I previously owned Accord and Camry V6. This time, I hesitated to buy a Hyundai because of the past Excel reputation. But now I am very pleased with my purchase. I believe Hyundai has improved tremendously. The engine of 4-cylinder Sonata is quieter than Accord and even Camry V6. It has a lot more room inside of car and trunk than both Accord and Camry. Also, both Accord and Camry offer 3 years or 30,000 miles warranty (which is basically non existent warranty) because problems start occuring after 30,000 miles. Above all, I like basic safety features Sonata comes with. I highly recommend Sonata above Accord and Camry as a preowner of all three vehicles.

I drove just about every thing available in mid-size sedans. For the money, I couldn't find another car that could compete with the '06 Sonata. Never thought I would buy a Hyundai ... until I drove this one. You owe it to yourself to check one out and save yourself a lot of $$$! Every bit as good as Nissan or Toyota ... and much better than anything Ford/GM/Chrysler offers.

I traded a 2002 Elantra for my '06 Sonata and what an upgrade! I commute 100 miles per day, which is what led me to purchase a Hyundai in the first place, due to the fantastic warranty. I bought my Sonata on Mother's Day of '06 and now have almost 80k miles on it. I have had no problems with this car. It does not let me down. It's fun to drive with plenty of pick up and roomy comfort. I have taken on several long trips and it averages about 30 MPG on the highway. I have gotten as much as 39 MPG out of it, but under limited circumstances. This is a really great car! Mine is black, so always dirty, but I really love it.

Sold off my old Camry XLE V6, and got an LX V6 Sonta. It has every feature you find in higher priced cars, but sells for under 25K with better warranty. No more toyota for me. I also tested the '05 camry SE V6, and toyota dropped the ball; that car simply doesn't handle well even with the ESC. I looked at Avalon, and it's much better but the price is 10K more.

This 235 horse Sonata is better than I expected. It is faster, smoother, and I guess bigger. The road handles great especially in the highway. At 70-80 mph, the road noise was exceptionally reduced. Compared to my old Accord, Sonata is much better in quality, price, warranty, features, power, room, comfort, almost every detail in Sonata beats Accord. It is too bad there is no manual for V6s. There is a shiftronic, but what's the difference with automatic if it shifts by itself in the redline? You have to test drive this amazing machine before you go anywhere else, you just might be in a surprise...

I previously owned a 2001 Elantra GLS, which I drove from 31k to 191k on the odometer. I bought this Sonata with 25k on the odo. Hopefully it can get me beyond 191k. I love the bigger engine, even though there is a little sacrifice with fuel economy. The car is put together very well and is a great car for highway driving. Granted, the suspension doesn't shield noise as well as the Accord, but given the price difference, it's hard to justify buying the Japanese brands. For the money, this car is difficult to beat.

I have an 06 Sonata with the 6 cylinder. I have had one emission issue with the car at 70k miles (I had to pay for the repair). I purchased my first set of tires at 68 k miles and I just had the brakes inspected @ 74 k and front and rear are at 75% new. Besides the normal maintenance (bulbs, wiper blades), I’ve had to repair under warranty the w/s wiper pump, and a couple of check engines until I had the gas cap thing down. I love this car, so I bought my fifth Hyundai and second Sonata today. The 06 car handles well, has great pick up and gives even more with the shift- tronic. Plenty of drivers leg room with easy cabin controls. Great braking and the ESC and multiple air bags a plus.

If american car makers tried as hard as hyundai to win over buyers they wouldn't be in the mess they are in now.I have bought american cars for 25 years. Not anymore. Poor reliability and high cost to maintain finally forced me to look elsewhere. I did my research and found a winner in the sonata. Excellent value! Great warranty and quality workmanship. The car has a smooth and quiet ride, handles nicely and the V-6 with the shiftronic transmision makes it fun to drive. I don't think you can find a better car for the money.

Nice car and good price after incentives. Good engine power and smooth transmission. Much standard equipment. Terrible gas mileage- 20.7 mpg best ever achieved on highway, not even close to the promised 30 mpg, which was a strong reason for the purchase. Very noticeable engine lag on acceleration. Distressing suspension noise intrudes in the cabin on uneven surfaces, and busy ride. Too much body lean on curves. Loud knock in dashboard. Steering feels heavy. Seat comfort is disappointing. A and B trips? Where's B? Heavy initial lift of trunk lid.

If you are looking into buying an Accord, Camry or any other "midsize" sedan, do yourself a favor and test drive the Sonata. It's a better car for less money. The engine has plenty of punch to it for a 4 cyl and it gives a very quiet, smooth, and comfortable ride. I love the way the car looks too. It truly is "a Hyundai like you have never seen before".

Out the door price just over 23K! And I get ESC, TC, EBDS, Homelink, Heated Leather Seats, over-sized Moon Roof (it's big), subwoofer & amp. Car is very well built and the fit & finish is better than Camry, on par w/ Accord. The interior is soft to the touch. Love the way the engine growls, especially in low rpm's. Lots of low end torque for fast acceleration from dead stop. Downshifts smoothly during high speed passing. Nav is a $2500 dollar dealer installed option. Remove cd changer & replace w/ 8-9" screen. (visit Korean Hyundai site to see it) Hyundai uses Eclipse deck (very high quality, installing next month)

I was looking for an inexpensive car that would take a beating. I own a farm on a dirt road but drive a distance on expressways to get there. My Sonata gets great mileage, especially around 60 MPH. The few minor problems I have had have been fixed for free and without a long wait. Exactly what I was looking for from a warranty.

Bought the 06 lx new off the floor in Aug 05 after owning an 02 sonata. Much improved power, handling, style. Gas mileage was not improved - due to improved power. My wife's car is a MB E320 and yes, a far better ride, but, considering you could buy 2 1/2 sonatas for the same price . Its not sexy, but the safety features, warranty, and thus far reliability (40K) can't be beat. I'm impressed with Hyundai - put a different badge on this car and the price would jump $15K.

Still happy after 3 years

Very attractive and reliable car. Have put 36K miles on it in 3 years and have been very please with overall performance. Only issues have been minor. Has excellent power for a 4- banger and gets great mileage (esp on the open road). Switch on power seat and a brake light switch have had to be replaced; other than that - nothing. Only complaint is that the car sits so low to ground that it makes changing own oil a challenge.

Purchased it last month, and absolutely luv it. Stylish good looks, my buddy saw it from the side and remarked "oh, you got a 5 series bimmer". It rocks. Very quick, great warranty, great looks. I got the LX with heated seats, larger wheels, leather.

Sonata Shortcomings

Gas mileage is suspect. While local driving is OK, highway mileage is low. I've gotten 25 MPG when driving on Interstates at the posted speed limits. When I asked about the mileage, I was told that the tests were done with 91 octane, which is not mentioned on the window sticker. It is in the owner's manual, but one does not see that until he/she is the owner. Frankly, I was disappointed that I can only get the low end of the mileage range with the recommended octane gas--87 octane. I don't believe the warranty lives up to the hype. If it does, why do I need to pay $1593 for additional warranty coverage?

We have had this for four months now and love this car. Performance, handling, and ride comfort are outstanding. The mp3 player will also play wma's. The only complaint is fuel mileage. Don't expect good mileage from this car. We have averaged just over 20 MPG. You should test drive this before you buy anything else.
